#7726 Your favorite video game character?

Either Battler, from Umineko, or Vyse, from Skies of Arcadia. (Or possibly Ramirez, from the latter)

EDIT: Typo :D

#5235 Best Mario Sports Game

Posted by Wertville on 13 June 2011 - 09:25 PM

Would have to say Mario Golf: TT, simply because it's the only one in the poll I've played B)
It's actually pretty good, though. Fun game to play if you feel like something different.

I can't answer this, as I dislike sports games.

Then why would you even post in the topic?

#4274 I think there's a handheld better then the 3DS.

Posted by Wertville on 07 June 2011 - 03:26 PM

I don't know where your getting your ideas from but they are wayyyy off base. The Vita is miles ahead of the 3DS in graphical capability and is only behind the PS3 in the amount of background detail that can be displayed. Kojima showed MGS4 on Vita without downgrading graphics at all.

Cool. The main difference between the Wii and PS3 is HD, though. Which is moot on a handheld. The Gamecube could do Anti-Aliasing and background things that the PS2 couldn't do; Yet you once claimed that the graphics of the two were practically the same?

Ummmmmmm....what? The PSV games are Sequels or Ports? All on PS3 as well? The franchises are on PS3 but the games are entirely new, none are ports and none are "sequels" but independent games in the universe of the franchises (similar to what God of War on the PSP was). And even if they were what's your point? That's ALL That's coming to 3DS...your bias is astounding and your being blatantly hypocritical. You praise the what was it...4...5 new games Nintendo showed all coming 6 months from now for the 3DS then bash the PSVs library for being "Sequels" of established franchises when literally every one of those games Nintendo showed.....was an established franchise! lol.

Umm... What? I'M being hypocritical? I'm admitting that the 3DS has mostly remakes. However, YOU were the one who pointed that out. So I just decided to return the favor. I guess using sequel was a bad term; I'm used to using that against Shooter only fans who like to see the same game released yearly. None of the new games (Or at least, not many that were shown at E3) have exclusivity, is what I meant by port, BTW. As for Remakes, Ninty Fanboys like me (And probably a good sized chunk of the early adopters) have never owned a Sony Console, and therefore love it when developers abandon the PS2 and give an advanced port to a Ninty console :D

The WiiU was not a slap in the face to the PSV, now your just being absurd. The PSV isn't for playing in bed...I played my PS3 in bed...the PSV is for playing when your not at home.

It will be for playing in bed if they don't give it a 2+ hour battery life and make it pocket sized :/

And on that note, there have been some comments coming out suggesting that the WiiU remote has to be in the same room as the console to work, therefor your point is moot anyway.

Not sure how they would go about testing that. I won't doubt it, but I'll wait for an announcement from a press source and/or Nintendo.

Take the fanboy glasses off for a second and become an actual gamer that appreciates any platform from any company, you'll be glad you did;).

I do enjoy games from all companies. I play them all the time at friends houses (Though they all(Cept' one) enjoy playing my Wii much more :)).

However, once people start up console wars... I have to side with Nintendo. I enjoy talking about one console or another, but once someone says 'X is better than Y' I come out, Objection!s blazing.

#4262 I think there's a handheld better then the 3DS.

Posted by Wertville on 07 June 2011 - 01:15 PM

Well, I don't feel like quoting right now, and I have something else to say so I'll just state this logical claim:

3DS = Quite a bit better than Wii graphics

PSV = Slightly worse than PS3 graphics

Therefore, outside of screen size(HD) which is negligible on a handheld, the differences between 3DS and PSV are close to the differences between the PS2 and GC, simply with their roles swapped. Plus 3D adds a lot to the graphical capabilities, some games profiting more than others.

Just the same, all the PSV games I saw were sequels or ports, and (I think) all of them were on PS3 as well. A remake is automatically better than a port, because many people missed it the first time, so the 3DS lineup > PSV lineup. Especially after what we saw at the conference.

TO MY UNRELATED POINT:

The WiiU seems like a huge slap in the face to the PSV, to be honest. After spending a large portion of their conference on the PSV, talking about how it is basically a touch-screen PS3 with slightly worse graphics that you can play in bed and share saves with the PS3 (Even though you have to buy BOTH copies), Nintendo pops up and announces the WiiU, a CONSOLE with BETTER graphics than the PS3 (Slightly-substantial, we can't tell yet) that you can play in bed as well as SWAP ONTO the TV (Buying only ONE copy).

Voice chat VS. Video Chat
PS3 ports VS. Next Gen. games
Unless Sony announces a battery that lasts more than 3 hours, along with many new exclusive games (Which I don't think is going to happen >.>) then they have competition with both the Handheld and Console Nintendo markets.

#3526 Could the Wii 2 be outdated soon?

"The Science Ministry announced late on Friday highly radioactive materials were detected in a 300-km north-south stretch from Kesennuma in Miyagi Prefecture to Choshi in Chiba Prefecture, the Kyodo news agency reported."

One city huh? As I said before, the Nuclear Disaster is MUCH worse than the West is reporting, it never stopped and is still ongoing (another explosion was heard near reactor 4 as recent as yesterday). Not to mention the fact that Typhoon season is upon us and Fukushima is prone to getting hit which will only hinder efforts to get things under control. Because of the fact that radioactive material is so light and travels so easily through the air, there is no such thing as "only one city" being affected by a nuclear disaster like this.

EDIT:

By the way that quote is in reference to this past Friday (May, 27th). Not a quote taken earlier in the crisis.

I think you're overreacting to the size of the situation... I never said that it wasn't devastating, nor that it would only effect one city... However, it's not about to wipe out the Japanese race. Or else they would have been finished at the end of WWII, thanks to a certain western country >.>

I don't know where you live but where I'm at people haven't exactly stopped spending money, the money spent has simply shifted to other areas. People are spending less money on entertainment and more money on Fuel, Food, etc...because of rising inflation costs. In fact some areas affected by the current economic situation are seeing people spend money more freely, with the extremely low costs of houses right now a lot of people are taking advantage of the fact that you can buy a house that 5 years ago would have cost 100k+ for as low as under 15k (at least in Michigan where I am you can easily find houses that low), including my uncle who bought a house for 13k that in 2009 sold for over 100k and my parents who bought 5 bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bathroom house for 5k, 5k they would have never spent on that house were the economic crisis not happening.

I live in Canada, which is doing relatively well compared to the rest of the English speaking world. And as for the rest of your paragraph... Two things:

a) The Great depression is considered the worst time period in all of human history, don't think that the US' current situation even scratches how bad that was

:D Because people stop spending money on certain areas, the people in those areas have to stop spending money. Just as well; decreasing prices is done only to increase sales... If people start waiting till things are dirt-cheap, which they know will happen, then that means the seller is getting ripped off and cannot spend money on things they would have otherwise. It's a dirty cycle that goes on and on; If you don't spend money, then other's can't make money. If others can't make money, then you can't get paid.

The great depression was already seeing signs of ending in many countries a few years before the outbreak of WWII (the United States being one of them), while there is no denying that WWII did play a role in helping to end the depression the reality is most nations would have seen the end of the great depression in the early 40s even without the war.

Even if they did see the end of it, they would not have seen the economical prosperity the war brought.

While relief efforts and rebuilding projects in Japan will certainly create jobs for the Japanese, it doesn't offset the many many jobs that were lost due to the destruction caused by the Tsunami.

If someone lost their job in a tsunami then, as cruel as it sounds, they have a larger than 50% chance of being dead. Also reconstruction efforts are a lot harder than you might think.

When did anyone debate the success of JRPGs in Japan? You mentioned it sold over 1 million copies in NA and Europe in it's first year, a milestone many western shooters and WRPGs (not to mention sports titles) are able to hit in a much shorter time. The argument was how much of an effect Microsoft having no popularity in Japan with their consoles would effect what system got what games, Dragon Quest selling 2.3 million in the first week in Japan isn't going to have any effect on western gaming. Dragon Quest was a huge success for a JRPG in the West but comparing it to WRPGs, Shooters, Sports Titles, Etc...it was a moderate success at best. Like I said, I LOVE JRPGs...I've invested so many hours in Final Fantasy and Suikoden games it's ridiculous...but that doesn't change the fact that JRPGs and other games that are huge in Japan are at best moderate successes in NA and EU where the market is dominated by Shooters, WRPGS, Sports Franchises, Etc...there are certainly exceptions to the rule but if you look at those exception many of them are shooters as well (Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, etc...)

Did anyone debate the success of Shooters and WRPGs in NA/EU?  I know I didn't.

However, do you know why those games get so many sales in the western world? Advertising. And word-of-mouth.
JRPGs rarely get 1 Million sales, let alone in the first year. DQIX was advertised better, though, and got more sales that way. Just the same, it got much better word-of-mouth advertising. Nintendo is started to do this for third party 3DS games; People will know about games that they would have never heard of had they never travelled to an Internet chat room or an Anime club.

Plus, if you think about it, if a niche game in a small country like Japan can sell the same amount as a popular NA game in the first week, then you can tell which place is less anti-video game :P

#3318 Could the Wii 2 be outdated soon?

Posted by Wertville on 29 May 2011 - 07:23 PM

While I do agree that shooters sell a lot (More than they should), I highly disagree that WRPGs dominate the market. The high-marketed WRPGs usually sell the same as the High-marketed JRPGs. In fact, the more popular WRPGs have shooter elements in them, making it much harder to say anything...

Actually, I don't think a Genre can dominate a market. Dragon Quest IX did not sell 1 million in NA and EU in less than a year because it was a JRPG. It sold because it was marketed well, something most JRPGs don't get. So while a country can dominate a genre... A genre cannot dominate a market. (Plus,  that would mean Fitness games dominate the market, which we all know is not true :D)

And besides, looking at the question in the form of the original statement... Most people don't buy consoles in order to buy shooter games, they buy consoles in order to play games more specific to their taste, seeing as all consoles get shooter games. Most people just buy shooter games on consoles they already own. So while CoD and MoH might not sway someone to buy a console, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Mario, Zelda, DoA, Dynasty Warriors, ect. just might. And while you can say that many western games could do the same... There just simply aren't as many. Most of the big ones I know just go for PC, so it won't even affect the console market.

Also, if you still want to argue that the west controls the market, I would like to point in the continuing fall of the U.S. economy, as well as the recent disaster in Japan. While the U.S. may not drop too radically, the Japanese will have money pouring and flowing through the country. As we've already agreed, the next generation of games will be expensive to produce... So which country will actually be able to afford them? Hint: Not the country that has some of its states bankrupted.

Some news on the PS4.

http://www.gamasutra...ayStation_4.php

Like I said before, Sony has learned its lesson. They rightly aren't going to spend massive amounts of money on R&D, and will make sure that their console is reasonably priced.

In that case, the Cafe has no competition, IMO.
Comparing this to the GC era, if the Cafe has the strength of the gamecube as well as the head start and third-party support of the PS2, there's no way Sony can even scratch it. And Japan hates the Xbox, so without that large portion of the market Microsoft won't be able to do much either.

I'm going to love this generation :P
I'll actually be able to play the vast majority of games that come out :D

#2729 Your thoughts about downloadable games/content

Posted by Wertville on 11 May 2011 - 06:35 PM

Depends how it's utilized...

For instance, am I going to spend $50 on a downloadable game, when I can spend the same amount and get a shiny tin case, too? No.

Would I download a game that would cost me $100+ to import? Yes.

This is a huuuge positive of downloadable games; they can save you ALOT of money when it comes to foreign games. Though I have yet to purchase a foreign game (i.e. untranslated :P), I have stared at them often... Some people here may remember that I was planning to buy a Japanese 3DS before I realized it would be $500 :D

DLC is a bit different...

Will I buy new songs for a rhythm game that didn't include any good songs on the disk? No.

Am I fine with a company releasing something unrelated to gameplay as payed DLC? Sure. (And if Marth ever gets an Archer costume in brawl, I will pay for it twice :D)

Will I allow developers to release games with slightly less content than expected, as long as they promise free new stuff? (via Spotpass, for example) Yes.

I don't mind DLC as long as I'm not paying for the game again. Which is what the PS360 caused by making the development costs so high... How else will they make a profit?

#2641 IP.Board has a reputation system - do you want to enable it?

I don't think people abusing the system will be a problem... Seeing as the system, as far as I know, has only been used twice...

In this thread... for the same post......... :/

Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, of course.

#2176 3DS - Wii U Connectivity Speculation Thread

Posted by Wertville on 26 April 2011 - 05:04 PM

So how do you guys think the 3DS will connect to the Cafe? I don't mean hardware wise, of course, but what do you think you'll be able to do with the connectivity?

Here are a few of my theories:

1) Controller

This has been speculated to be possible for awhile. I think that it might be possible, but only for a few select games and Virtual Console. There are a few problems with having full controller support - Rumored two analog sticks, 2 bumpers, larger and higher-res screen... It's virtually impossible. But if you look at a pre-gamecube controller... There should be no problem playing those with your 3DS.

Also, we might be able to use the 3DS for some more touch-based games. A 'Cafe' series, similar to the 'Wii' series, maybe. The chances Nintendo would do this are higher, as Nintendo would definitely want a way for people to not have to buy more controllers. And what better way then to get people to bring their 3DS?

Another thing, if the 3DS is a compatible controller, then we might be able to find out something about the cafe controller... Look at the back of your 3DS right now! What do you see? An IR port? Could this be how Nintendo implements pointer controls into the Cafe? It ha been rumored to double as a sensor bar... So it makes sense.

2) StreetPass

Now I'm not suggesting that we go and carry our Cafe's to the local Bar, that would be silly. Tim Horton's? Maybe. What's Tim Horton's? Canadian Coffee shop. Good place...

On topic, one cool thing that I would like to see in the Cafe-3DS connectivity is Street Pass support. Think about it- You go all day about your business playing on your 3DS... When BAM! You got a streetpass. You quickly open up your 3D gaming device and get a new puzzle piece, go play some Mii Quest... 30 seconds later, you're stalking your next streetpasser back on your way home. When you get home you place your 3DS near your Nintendo Console... And your new streetpass friend gets a seat in your Cafe. What did he bring along? A Smash Bros. Sticker? A Harvest Moon visitor? A competing Dynasty Warrior? The possibilities are equal to the amount on 3DS!

This could also link in to a new sort of account system... You can link one or two 3DS' to your Cafe (The account, not the console) and whenever those 3DS devices are near, it finds out all the new streetpass data.

This might be wishful thinking, but I could see Nintendo doing it :P

3) Game Connectivity

This one's a given... Who isn't going to want to play Pokemon against their friends 3DS', or travel to their friend's Animal Crossing Cafe's town? It's happened since the gamecube, and it isn't going to stop. And I don't want it to :P

Well, those are just some of my theories. Does anyone else have any ideas?

(Also, sorry if the above is a bit jumbled... I got distracted by someone halfway through writing, so I had to re-find my train of thought >.<)

#1266 Origin of your username

Posted by Wertville on 04 March 2011 - 07:23 PM

I chose my username because I needed a new username... (You would too if you were previously known as DemonDad5(I'm 16 NOW. I used this 5-6 years ago! Of course I'm not!))

So I decided to use my Animal Crossing town's name! :D
And I've stuck with it since. People often think the name odd, but I think it's pretty awesome.

Also, if you're wondering where the town name came from... You know how the gamecube didn't have a keyboard? Well I'm a bit lazy... So I didn't want to move to the other side of the screen in order to make a fancy name. Now look at the first 5 letters of the keyboard. Obviously Qwertville would just be Qwierd :D
