#309474 Sonic went downhill when Shadow was introduced... the good and the bad

Posted by Arioch on 22 February 2015 - 04:52 PM

*Post moved from the Cafe to the proper section*

You're kind of nuts if you think Shadow is what introduced dark elements into the Sonic series. Ever play Sonic CD, Spinball, or SA1?

Shadow was introduced as an evil Sonic for Sonic to fight in SA2. Fans liked him, so SEGA BSed a way to bring him back and cash in on the character with his title game.

Getting rid of Shadow would likely remove some of the actual decent things from Sonic, as his interactions with Shadow are great (how Sonic always kicks his ass and messes around, showing how pitiful it really is for Shadow to continue pretending to be edgy).

Sonic 06 wasn't a bad game because of it's story, it was a bad game because it sucked as a game and was rushed out a product to cash in on with no effort. Silver doesn't really suck as a character in any other games or even in the comics.

The reason for Sonic games failing is because SEGA didn't know how to make the games good without trying to appeal to every fan out there (or specific fans). Unleashed tried to cater to the God of War mechanics, Shadow tried the gritty re-imagining genre, Sonic 06 was a rushed project nowhere near completion, Boom was a third party project that had a bunch of pitfalls and team problems, Heroes tried to cash in on the Sonic Adventure model without trying to improve upon it, and Genesis was a cash grab with no effort in the port job.

It had to do with SEGA's marketing schemes, it's why there were so many bad games at once, but it seems like they learned since then. Sonic 4 was decent (only whiny purists hate it), Unleashed was fantastic (people only gripe about the werehog), Generations was great, Colors was great (it played it too safe), and Lost World was pretty good (SEGA actually tried to make something new, it was a fun and imaginative game). Sonic fans are the worst fans out there and demand specific games and crap on others (all the BS 2d vs 3d arguments), hell, half of them don't even know what they're saying when they whine about Eggman's name (his name was Eggman in the original japanese edition on the first game, Robotnik was given to the English games to fit the cartoon canon).

#309269 New 3ds gets Monadolicious Cover plates. NoA farts on hands and smells fingers.

Shipping probably would be another 10 - 20 bucks depending upon the speed/method. It isn't too bad.

I've imported stuff from Japan before, and if you're lucky, someone like DHL or USPS can charge cheap shipping, unfortunately the speed isn't great.

Or maybe I'll grab one off ebay, someone's bound to order their own bulk in the states and sell it (hopefully not too much though).

#308988 Smash Bros Rayman - confirmed FAKE

Posted by Arioch on 15 February 2015 - 10:07 AM

Yeah it was odd for two reasons: 1) Ubisoft's cooling relations with Nintendo 2) difficulty in making a decent Amiibo without magnetic wizardy.

It was possible for a character to come out of the Rayman's Legend exclusivity for WiiU (possible to drop after ubisoft screwed up). Afterwards, it would have been unlikely, if not impossible, for him to be added. I wish Rayman's creator could just leave ubisoft, but I know it doesn't work that way...

As for a possible amiibo, a colorless rod could have gone from the shirt to his head. The hands could have just been posed to be holding onto the shirt.

#306623 I suppose it takes me 2 years to manage to tell a story

Posted by Arioch on 08 January 2015 - 10:25 PM

Well, I was telling a story on how WUF sort of came to be and I became an admin, but I stopped because I am lazy and new information came out. So I suppose I will be retelling that story, finishing it, and bringing up a few interesting events that came up in conjunction with it (like how I found out I was unknowingly fueling some guys fetish when I was 16 and younger).

Original thread here

So, I have to start from the beginning or I won't be able to finish. And I'll try to write everyday so the story is actually told.

Part 1 is just a collection from my first few posts with little edits here and there. I'll start Part 2 tonight, but I need to collect a bit more info to revise what I have and remember correctly. So, the first entry will not be as long, but I'll try and make sure I finish it this time around.

This also mainly has to do with feldo removing the YAF archives from his server, so I really have no way to look back on things to refresh my memory.

Spoiler

The gallery posts are not included as Soul finally removed the gallery after a few years.

Part 2:

Over time the site was losing a good amount of activity, there were a few regulars, me, and a few other new users who frequented the site. If you would like a comparison, it was just about as active as this site now.

The users who set off the chain of events of YAF shutting down went by the name Davey-J-Yoshi (who later became known as slimeyscaly). He joined the site just like various other yoshi fanatics and began posting art of cardboard-looking Nascars and yoshis with legs twice the size of their own bodies. The guy was obsessed with Nascar almost as much as Yoshi and it was the only thing he would ever talk about.

Anyways, he started posting his art of yoshi and he got one or two responses saying something along the lines of "good job", but the rest of us, we started to point out how massive the legs and thighs of the Yoshis were, and boy, he couldn't stand that. He said that it was his style and that he didn't need to improve upon it. As time went on, he even dropped hints of it just being a fetish of his, but would adamantly deny it.

Despite the nature and attitude of the general userbase, he wasn't able to garner any sympathy and choose to leave the forums, like so many other users  before him. He left a passive aggressive message blaming everyone but himself, and left (I don't remember if it resulted in a ban or not).

After his initial exit, he came back again later, when the userbase was a bit more volatile.

#305648 Platinum Games’ Producer Thanks Wii U Owners Who Bought Bayonetta 2 on Release

Posted by Arioch on 19 December 2014 - 08:37 AM

So how long do you think until Platinum's contract runs out with Nintendo so they can release Bayo 2 on PS4 and make up all the money they sunk into the Wii U release?

Except no other company wanted to give bayonetta 2 a chance because microsoft hates fun and sony is scared of making games.

DMC is a fine game, people are just pissy because it isn't the same as DMC1-4 (2 of which are pretty bad to begin with)

#305083 So... What's On Your Christmas List?

Posted by Arioch on 10 December 2014 - 06:21 PM

-Nothing

We don't celebrate christmas anymore, can't really afford it. Besides, my brithday is close enough, as well as my brother's being next month (and my dad's the last day in november).

We usually celebrate by going out for Chinese food, which is good with me.

My brother might make me celebrate Hannakah with him this year, though.

#302906 Address about what happened

Posted by Arioch on 14 November 2014 - 03:31 AM

I'm sorry, but what the hell are you thinking? This is you're response to everything? A passive aggressive argument on the justification of your behavior?

There is no need, none at all, for you to have made this post. In order for things to move on and relationships to improve, you take the situation and learn from it. You don't consistantly antagonize the userbase and then make an apology expecting everything to turn out peachy and everyone giving you another chance.

I'm still pretty miffed about a certain moderator telling me he would talk to me on Facebook Monday and then not doing it. I'm over it now. Forgiven but not forgotten. Putting family you can talk to every day over an online friend, is not how I, for one, roll.

I'm really not sure what else to say. Other than that I prefer honest people, like Ryudo. I'm sure if he was in the whole Facebook situation, he would come out and tell me, "I will talk to you on Monday, unless I'm busy with family. They come first and I will choose them over you."

This is honestly kind of disgusting, believing that you are more entitled to attention than someone's family. Real life, NO MATTER WHAT, takes priorty over internet interactions. A person is not required to mention that their life takes priority over someone elses. If you are a decent person, you would understand this idea and realize that not everyone can cater to you at every waking moment of the day.

I don't need to go through your post like N, and rip it apart, when it is already filled with holes.

Porhorse, I'm not spending any more time dealing with you, I've already dumped in more than enough.

I'll end it with what I've said to you before. People treat you how you treat them.

#302839 New Moderator

There have been discussions going on for a while on bringing in other users to help out while GC and I have been more and more busy, and we finally have some more help.

Congratulations to Sorceror12, he is the newest addition to the mod team.
