#318164 A Late-Night Stream of Consciousness

Posted by Hank Hill on 24 July 2019 - 05:52 PM

So, got off work. Get home, fed, showered, so on. ...Get a weird thought in the shower and next thing I know, I'm here.

Gotta admit I'm surprised to see the forums are up. Imagine my utter shock that not only are the forums up, but people are still posting. In 2019. And I remembered my login info somehow. AND THE LOGO IS STILL OFF CENTER

It's...kinda cool to see everyone here. Seeing people I recognize yet haven't talked to in ages- though Tom's popped up on my streams now and again, far and few between that they are.

What am I doing now? Well...not as much as I'd hoped.

It's been a long few years. Had a lot of familial upset, anxiety, self discovery in multiple ways. ...Yes, I still collect amiibos. I don't draw as much as I should, though the thought has never really left my mind that I need to practice. At the time I started an art thread nearly...damn, nearly five years ago to the day, I had a handful of artist friends that inspired me to draw and do better. Gradually, thosefriends seemed to go off to different things, hang with other people and whatnot. It's been kinda hard; It's partially my own doing, partially the hand life and other people have dealt me over the past while.

Been working at Lowes since the end of last February. That's...been a trip. Got tan, got some arm strength back, impressed the managers. They kept me on as a full time in lumber, which is a decent step up from seasonal outside garden help.

Still been playing games, too. Lots of PS3 n' 4 stuff, though I've dabbled with my brother's Switch now and again. Mario Odyssey was/is amazing, as is Zelda and Tetris 99. Just haven't been playing games as hard as I used to thanks to job and life stuff.

Kinda miss it here. Was nice to have a chat to pop into and jabber about video game whatever, there was such an...excitement around everything. Like there were limitless possibilities, like that Wreck It Ralph would surely run in real time on the Wii U. ...I can forget coworkers' names, but remember that.

In any case...ya'll made a 15 to 18 year old kid happy. You're even making him happy now. It was always a good time logging in to chat people up or share nonsense. I'm admittedly still trying to find the SMASHING thread I made forever ago, even if it's a bunch of dead links by now.

Yet at the same time, it almost breaks my heart to look back at my older posts. I can see a person that's not much younger than I am now, yet is very, very different compared to how I am now. But I guess that's what growing up does to you.

Halfway tempted to try and reboot the site. Give it a new coat of paint as the Switch forums or some such thing. But at the same time, I'm not sure if forums are really used anymore. GoNintendo is always quiet, 3DSF is gone completely. Even NintendoChitChat seems dead as a doornail outside of their Facebook page. But we'll see.

Anyway, that's my two cents without rambling on much longer.

If anyone wants to chat, my discord is Morkus#3744. I can't guarantee I'll be very chatty, but I can check it in the evenings when I'm off work.

Now go listen/watch my boy Jack Stauber: https://www.youtube....ser/JackStauber

#317168 Is a PS4 worth it?

Posted by Hank Hill on 08 November 2015 - 10:41 AM

I'ma go ahead and piggyback on Ryudo's post while clarifying things/throwing my own input into it

I have had far more to play on my Wii U than my PS4 (esp with Rodea in a couple days for Wii U and Xenoblade Chronicles X next month). However with Gravity Rush 2,Street Fighter,Nier and King of Fighter 14 in 2016 will justify my PS4 finally. This is admittedly the complete opposite experience I've had, but I still love my Wii U...just need to play it more.

Get a 10 foot charge cable for the DS4 as the battery life is piss poor so may as well use it plugged in. Sorta true, though it's not as bad if you turn the light bar down.

There are no Demo's on PSN and it gives you no screenshots or vids like Eshop for games. This is semi-true. When you go to a game's page, you can view the community page which has various user-made screenshots, streams and I believe even custom videos made in sharefactory.

Still uses the PS3 system where want to buy a game for 3 bucks. Tough you have to add 5 bucks to your wallet. This is true, and it sucks very much.

The themes are junk. Dunno that I'd call them junk so much as there's not a lot of them. I love my Grim Fandango theme.

Every *larger retail game takes like *20-40GB of your HDD *depending on the title as most aren't optimized.

So get a 1TB or 2TB HDD for it and I mean buy a internal one as PS4 does not support External HDD. Good thing is replacing the internal HDD will not void the warranty.  Up to you, really. I'm doing fine on my 500GB and just swapping out game installs.

Just be aware of installs and long install times. Installs, yes. Install times...no idea where he's getting 'long install times' from. The longest I've had to spend installing a game was for Arkham Knight on account of it being huge, but pretty much every other retail game has taken ~20 seconds to install fully, save for patches.

If you want to play online you HAVE to have PSN+ as it costs to play online with people. PSN+ has been neat and it does auto backup your game saves. Games are tied to an account not hardware. Crossplay is great if you have a Vita. PS4 has the most 3rd party support so if a lot of 3rd party stuff appeals to you then year get one.  The other thing that should be mentioned is that PS+ gives you two to four games for no charge every month that're yours for as long as you're subscribed. It's a great deal so long as you have an open mind about the games you play.

I have Fallout 3 and like any Bethsesda game they are vastly overrated with sub-par visuals and buggy as hell games they never fix and dated open world design. Vats system is cool but outside of that the only truly great Fallout games were from 1-2 on PC in the 90s. Fallout 3 sucks. Like, it sucks. New Vegas was a heck of a lot better and Fallout 4 seems to look just as great.

Thaaat all being said. The Playstation 4 has a huuuuge amount of games that're a blast to play, especially if you like playing a bunch of different things. Tearaway: Unfolded, Uncharted Collection, Shovel Knight, MGS5, inFAMOUS, etc. Personally, I'd say buy one, but maybe wait to see if you can get a good black friday deal of some sort. There'll probably be all sorts of game/controller bundles for cheap.

#315409 8 SEGA 3D CLASSICS ON-SALE FOR 50% OFF

Was hoping they'd be $2.50 seeing as I only have $5 on the eShop at the moment. :P

#315349 Mario Maker to have 100 pre-made levels

Posted by Hank Hill on 25 June 2015 - 09:42 AM

It's a $60 game!? When it was first announced I thought it'd be a $15 eShop title. Even now I can't see it at more than $40. But there are 100 levels, so it's technically a new 2D Mario...

Let's put it this way. If it was a $40 standalone release with a $60 special edition that came with a 8-Bit Mario Amiibo and that art book? I'd be all for it. I'd probably even preorder it for the Amiibo alone.

But $60? $60 is pushing it. No 2D Mario game should be $60 anymore. <:\

#314319 Platinums next game NOT on Wii U and is..

Posted by Hank Hill on 13 June 2015 - 02:57 PM

Have you played the Cybertron games? I haven't myself, but I heard they were pretty good Transformers games.

I can vouch for the two Cybertron games, both of them are a looot of fun. Shame Rise of the Dark Spark was trash. :T

The one my mom uses is Roxio, I believe. And that usually works so long as the disc isn't too badly scratched
