#66873 New Neogaf Rumour

@Nollog easy on why. Because you can play assassins creed 3 on the controller if you want. And it be easily dinner if it can be at a higher resolution.

#66216 Rumor: "Nintendo tweaked the Wii U to make sure it can run UE4."

Posted by MorbidGod on 14 March 2012 - 05:41 AM

@Orion it was high end when it was released. And its not like they choose it last year they started the actual development of the cards probably 2008 or 2009. Its not like they choose a card that was a cheap card as their starting point.

#64512 The Wii U can, in theory, run the Samaritan demo.

OP: Your figures are very wrong and based on speculation that is also very wrong.

If the Wii U does have a chip with similar HP to the 4870 then that would make it some 5 times faster. Also there is little chance that MS will use a 6670 in the next Xbox. The recently released 7770 would cost MS about $30 per chip and be 70% faster than a 6670- there is no way that a company with unlimited cash is going to go cheap on a GPU. Expect the next gen Xbox to use something similar to a 7850 which will be a a little slower than the current 6950.

Finally... it's unlikely that the Wii U will be as powerful as a 4870 due to the amount of heat it and a CPU required to run it would require. One of the only bits of solid info that we were given is that the CPU would be 45nm which is very very old tech, Intel were on 45nm 5 years ago. In most likely it will be 50% faster than the current Xbox.

45mn is tech that AMD was using around 2009. Intel doesn't make video cards (or at least good ones) so who cares about them. But Nintendo started out with a 4870 -- that doesn't mean thats what they are using/ I said this before, I'll say it again. THAT CARD is the BASIS for the Evergreen Series, which is the HD5xxx Series of Radeon cards. So assuming work started around 2008 - 2009, they probably did the logical thing and as the 4870 evolved into a better, more energy efficient card -- so did the Wii U's GPU.

And you're forgetting that Nintendo's console is very long and has a lot of vents.

We can only assume the the other side probably has the same amount of vents. We know the back has a big one. A company doesn't give a lof of space for hardware that is low heat. That would be stupid. They give a lot of room and vents to hardware that is high heat and needs to stay cool.

I don't think it is false hopes, since you -- nor do I -- have any good idea what will be in the Wii U, Xbox 720 or PS4. Especially PS4 since there are no rumors. All we kn ow about the Wii U is that it has a multi-core IBM processor based off the tech in the Watson CPU (possibly a little brother to it, and directly related) and that it will have an insane amount of eDRAM (we don't know the amount, but it did state it will have a lot -- google for PR release). We also know the GPU is based off the HD Radeon video card, and we "know" it's based of 4870 series (which is the basis for the 5xxx Series, for reference ... which btw lead to the creation of the 6xxx Series). I say "know" because thats the RUMORED specs. Even if it is true -- it still doesn't tell us anything. Nintendo and ATi/AMD started at that point and moved forward, developing a card that fits Nintendo's needs. Since this is a next gen, it needs to be able to play any current gen tech and new gen tech (aka, this engine we see in this demo). It also needs to be economically sound. It can't be too crazy. And it needs to be low-heat, since we don't want over heating Wii U's. So, in theory, the Wii U could have something that looks like an Evergreen GPU or even a early Northen Islands GPU.

Now with the Xbox 720, we know even less. We don't even know it's name. We don't know what it will look like. We do know it will be developed by Microsoft, and that Foxxconn will probably manufacture the console. It probably will retain the Xbox name, with a possible name Loop or 720. Maybe it will be called Xbox Wizard.

Point is, we don't know what the 720 will be. And since we don't know a lot about Wii U, comparing it to the 360 because we know it's specs is odd. Why not compare rumor vs rumor? It makes just as much sense.

Anyway, I think the Wii U will be able to run the Samaritan Demo @ 1080p when all is said and done. I believe all next gen consoles will. Although we wont see graphics like that at launch, unless it's an exclusive or made by Nintendo (other developers will simply do ports upscaling the graphics for the first part of Wii U's life). Here is hoping we see Retro Studio's next game at launch.

#57747 RUMOR: Nintendo considering renaming the Wii U

This is totally a joke, but what about Wii Destiny, or WiiD for short. Imagine, WiiD: The Perfect Stoner Console. :D

#55881 What do You Think Nintendo is Going to Reveal at the GDC in March?

Posted by MorbidGod on 19 January 2012 - 09:25 PM

Games and online info. And the last Zelda wasn't made by Retro Studios and they started roughly around two years ago after Donkey Kong. And they should never reveal specs. Remember, MS and Sony are still tinkering there system. If that becomes public knowledge then its game over. But expect to see what the system can do. No Zelda Mario Metroid, but maybe a new IP or Pikman.

They will save "secert" features for E3. And their big guns.

#54779 Let's talk Zelda Wii U

#51706 Wii U's Big Secret

Posted by MorbidGod on 05 January 2012 - 10:45 PM

OK, so it may not have one. But I have a feeling Nintendo did not reveal all it's cards. Last time Nintendo revealed the Wiimote, then the next E3 revealed the speaker on the controller -- which I think adds a new level of gameplay never before possible. Now, they reveal @ E3 2011 their biggest secret (Wii uTablet) while givign Sony tons of time to copy them (which I believe they will). This seems like a very miscalculated move, or Nintendo has a bigger, even better secret that will change things once again.

I originally said on another form that I think if Project Cafe was real (and it was) that the screen would also have 3D capabilities. With the DS, Nintendo tested the waters for casual gamers. Thats why it was a third pillar until Nintendo saw the crazy amount of systems sold. Thats when they fully went down the path of gameplay and not graphics.

We'll last year they tested the market for 3D. And it was somewhat of a success. The 3DS sold over 4 million units, with most of those sales since the price drop and newer games being released. The Holiday season also helped sales, I am sure.

So I think Nintendo could add 3D to the screen. Because we know Nintendo has wanted to do this since the GCN, probably before, and they just couldn't have a screen with glasses free 3D in the living room. Now they can.

And imagine. Being able to play the game on the big screen, and then to get the 3D effect stream it to the controller. Or you playing a some RPG and you point the back of the uTab to the TV screen, and be able to see the environment in 3D. The possibilities could be endless.

What do you guys think?

#50021 Is "Wii U" the console's final name?

Posted by MorbidGod on 31 December 2011 - 09:25 AM

And those who won't buy the Wii U because it has the Wii name still won't buy it if it was the Nintendo Insert Totally Awesome Name Here. Why? Because Nintendo made it and that's for kids. They'd have to become a new company, and that's just not going to happen.

#50016 Is "Wii U" the console's final name?

Posted by MorbidGod on 31 December 2011 - 08:54 AM

My personal belief is the Wii U is a perfect name and wii probably stay the same. People keep saying that they aren't sure if its a new product, but look at the PSP, and the PlayStation brand in general. The PSP Vita is a new device, but could easliy be a new version of the PSP1. And I think its perfect because the reason for the Wii U is because its made for U. Or is it Wii Utopia? Wii Ultimate? Its all these things.

And about the 3DS being confused as another version of the DS, I think that's bull. The reason it didn't sale was games and price, Nintendo has proven that with both new games and lower price.

#42678 What games would you like to see make an HD remake or revived on the Wii U

Posted by MorbidGod on 19 November 2011 - 11:10 AM

What I would like to see is a revival of Star Fox. A brand new, all space and air and submarine mission , made by Retro Studios. However, before that, I want Retro to have the ability to make it's own UP. Remember try that dragon game thwhat showed for GCN? And I always thought Retro had what it takes to create a war game like Call of Duty.

But besides that...  I don't know what I would like to see.
