#274639 Unofficial PRE-E3 Talk

Posted by MorbidGod on 25 February 2014 - 10:43 PM

Hello Members of The Wii U Forum, Nintendo fans and haters alike! Here we will discuss the LIVE AND CRAZY event known as Electronic Entertainment Expo, otherwise known as E3!!!!

So, with that introduction, I want to start off by saying what has me thinking about E3 is IGN had a podcast recently discussing what Nintendo will do, and should do, and they had a healthy debate. All arguments we have heard here, time and time again. Some we might repeat RIGHT HERE, in our wild debate!

My personal belief is Nintendo, the day of Mario Kart 8 launch - after the pre orders and first day buyers have bought MK8 - Nintendo should have a E3 Kick Off! And call it exactly that. This should be hosted by Reggie, and it wouldn't hurt to have some hired help. Jimmy Fallon from The Tonight Show maybe? This way, the Direct is not boring - come on Iwata, admit it you are BORING. Here you should TEASE what's coming at E3. Like the Amuse Busche for E3. Not enough to FILL YOU up, but enough to make you want MORE.

Then, at the end - make some crazy freaking announcement. That yours BUYING ROCKDTAR GAMES. Or ... Sega is now second party! Or, holy snuck just surprise js WITH SOMETHING. Your secretive. "leak false" things that way if the real thing gets out, WE DONT KNOW IT until BAM BAM SPANK YOU MAM you announce it.

After the Kick Off, start advertising your E3 Conference. Seriously. On Spike TV, where they actually show E3 (YES I WATCH IT), show glimpse of something awesome. Be cool if you had like four different ads and if you put then together, it shows something. Seamus helmet? A pistol? Maybe something a little extra - haha. But you get the picture. Make people who don't generally watch your show WANT TOO.

Then at E3, start out with a symphony playing some classic video game music. Then have Morimoto (sp?) come up and SHOW HIS NEW D*** IP! Let it be awesome! Then, have a show reel of THIRD TRACKING PARTY developers making YOUR games. Star Fox! Platinum Games! Metroid! Made by Konami. FZero! Made by Slightly Mad Studios (Project Cars). Golden Sun by Square Enix.

Maybe even show trailers for any game ready to be shown. Then show your games. New Zelda? Cha Ching! New Retro Studios game? Cha Ching!

Then that's a wrap!!!!

What do you think?

#274431 Was Nintendo wrong... what is the consumer saying?

Posted by MorbidGod on 24 February 2014 - 07:41 AM

The Wii U's third party support is woeful, it's so bad that not even companies like EA, Square-Enix or Capcom are making games for the system. If these three companies refrain from releasing their games on your platform then you know there's some massive problems.

The reason the Gamecube didn't sell as well as the PS2 is down to the software library, the PS2 had a more diverse library of games and a large pool of games to choose from as well as being competitively priced. I've read numerous reports that suggest Nintendo lost a lot of third party support during the days of the N64 and it came home to roost with the Gamecube and if I'm honest both the N64 and Gamecube should have achieved higher sales numbers because they were both great consoles with some of the greatest games I've ever played.

As for the Wii U having a diverse line up of games, I disagree entirely with that. There are a lot of genre of games that have virtually no representation on the Wii U.

They're in decline, what Iwata achieved with both the DS and Wii is something to really marvel at, but the problem is Nintendo hasn't adapted and changed, they're always a step behind the competition. This is the problem with a lot of successful companies, they become stubborn, they refuse to change, they become arrogant and complacent and then they dwindle away.

Nintendo need to realise that the current route they're heading down is the wrong one. The Wii U at the moment is an abject failure and Nintendo have done virtually nothing to address this apart from offer "please understand" and numerous platformers, rehashes of old games and casual games.

Gamers who want a Wii U but have not bought one yet are given no real reason by Nintendo to buy the Wii U.

Donkey Kong, Wii Fit U and Wii Party U won't get those gamers to open up their wallets and purchase a Wii U, it's games like Star Fox, Metroid, Fzero, a new Zelda, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros that will do that.

Nintendo from what Bethesda have said made no effort to speak them about the Wii U. Therefore is it any wonder that Bethesda wants nothing to do with the Wii U?

Nintendo just seems isolated from the rest of the industry. It's like those people who you see in a Pub who sit in a corner on their own in complete silence while everyone else is laughing and joking around.

They can't even be bothered to turn up to E3, they just send a Nintendo Direct from their HQ in Japan.

Not even Japanese companies are coming to Nintendo's aid, Square-Enix have chosen to release Kingdom Hearts III on the Xbox One instead of the Wii U. Capcom would rather release an exclusive game on the Xbox One then the Wii U. From Software an old Japanese games development studio won't even release Dark Souls II on the Wii U and I don't see Namco Bandai rushing to help out Nintendo.

The future of the Wii U looks as bleak as it did last year. Not even a 3D Mario game which received worldwide acclaim or a solid platformer in Donkey Kong has been able to change that.

The reality of the Wii U Gamepad so far has that it hasn't been utlilised properly. As I say at least with the Wii the Wii-motes were actually an essential part of the experience, the Wii U Gamepad in contrast feels like a forced gimmick without any real purpose. Now I know what the Wii U Gamepad can do, I own Rayman Legends, Nintendo Land and The Wonderful 101, but sadly most developers including Nintendo haven't really utilised the Gamepad well enough for me to constitute that the Gamepad a worthwhile piece of equipment. It's unfilled potential and to be honest I think it will remain that way throughout the life cycle of the Wii U.

Also times have changed, you're harking back to a console released around fourteen years ago. Times have changed and gamers tastes and preferences have changed too. Gamers want powerful hardware and a diverse selection of games to suit their needs, there isn't one more important than another, they are both equally important. Just as first party and third party games are equally important to gamers, there isn't one that takes precedence over the other. This is why the PS4 is so successful and will be the out and out winner of this console generation. It offers the most powerful hardware in a games console on the market, it is competitively priced, it will offer a perfect blend of first party games, exclusive games, third party games both AAA and indie titles and all of these things combined make it a winning console. It's a console with a winning formula.

First off, in reply to your topic, I didn't mention the PS4 or that the Wii U has a good game library. I didn't even say that the Wii U would be the winner of this generation. I've never said that actually.

What I did say, is the Game Pad gas value, but Nintendo and developers haven't made the games to support it. That, again, it's about THE GAMES.

And, to prove my point. If the PS4 didn't have good games on it, would it be selling well? Bit wait!!! It has POWERFUL hardware! It should be selling like hotcakes! But, who buys a game console if there aren't GAMES on it that you want to play?

GAMES is what will save or kill the Wii U. If the Wii U doesn't sell 30 million plus units, that would be because it didn't bring the games the gamer wants. Not because of a gimmick. Not because of the hardware. Not because it isn't green or blue or whatever. It's because Nintendo failed for the first time at nit bringing games.

However, I somehow doubt that is going to continue, and I have faith that Nintendo will bring the games people want. You can make predictions that Nintendo won't use the game pad, but I point to when  Miyamoto said they need to use the game pad more ( http://www.computera...-wii-u-gamepad/ ). Nintendo see's their mistakes, and that is the first step to fixing them.

So go ahead. Ignore what Nintendo is saying and just say they aren't doing what they said they need to change.

I choose to wait and see what they do, and then judge them once it's done. Like I judge them when they launched the Wii U with virtually no first party support. What were they thinking?

But I see the gears working. I see they are trying to fix this, and they are doing a good job so far. But they need to work harder and continue to work.

EDIT: I find it funny you think games sold the PS2, which is true, yet you don't think games can sell the Wii U.

EDIT2:
Also, Nintendo has said they need to change. http://www.siliconer...Oc (Siliconera) Here is Iwata saying he failed at reading what gamers in the west want, and he needs to adapt Nintendo's strategy to what the west wants as well.

And finally, Nintendo failing is a good thing. Look at Sony. Their Wii U was the PS3. It was hard to develop for. It didn't have enough value at the time for what it cost. Ubisoft backed away support by taking it's once exclusive Assassin Creed for the PS3 and moved it to the Xbox 360. Developers didn't like the PS3. In fact, if you actually listen to why they made the PS4 and the choice of x86, IT WAS BECAUSE of that they changed. But they changed. They brought the price down. Added more value with apps. Developed some damn good games for the PS3. And, aren't they over 80 million sells? There were people saying Sony would never get to that point. By the way, I was one of those people. I was wrong then, and it's why I have always said the Wii U will be Nintendo's PS3. It won't win. It will be dead last. It won't fail (I think your predictions are the absolute worst case, where Nintendo fails completely for seven years straight). But it will be last, either way.

http://www.nintendol...ays_david_jaffe

As he said, Iwata has earned the right to fail. And failing is good. It builds character and you learn more at the bottom then at the top. This proves that, actually. Nintendo was at the top. Did it do them any good? No. It just gives them money.

#272384 Was Nintendo wrong... what is the consumer saying?

Posted by MorbidGod on 14 February 2014 - 01:18 PM

The consumer doesn't want what Nintendo is offering in terms of hardware. They don't want the tablet controller, they don't want a mediocre 32gb of storage space, they don't want a first and second party only system.

Then there's the lack of marketing and a lack of real must play software, but if you head over to websites like IGN, gamers who own Microsoft and Sony consoles state why they aren't interested in purchasing the Wii U and it all comes down to hardware and a lack of third party support.

If for £100 extra you can pick up a PS4 which will have a wide variety of software and vastly superior hardware then a Wii U, you'll be hard pressed to find many people who would opt for the Wii U over the PS4.

You keep referring to the gamers on other web sites. What you fail to realize is there are gamers - a lot of them - who don't go on those sites. Believe it or not, one of my old best friends didn't even know what E3 was and he plays more games then I do.

What is his opinion of the Wii U? He wants better games. Doesn't care about the Call of Duty or Assassins Creed. He has his 360 for those. He wants awesome games to play. He doesn't have that yet.

The problem is and has always been software. Would have better hardware helped? I doubt it. Didn't help the GCN did it? Didn't help the N64 did it? Yes, other factors played into those systems, but the point still stands. It's not just a hardware issue.

To prove my point, let's say Nintendo day one launched with Super Smash Bros. One month later Mario 3D World. Two month later X. Three month later Donkey Kong. Four month later Pikman 3. Five month later Mario Kart 8. Six month later Bayonnetta 2. And still had ZombiU, Wonderful 101 and all the other games currently released.

Would the Wii U have only sold barely six million by now? Hell no. It would have blown everyone so far out or the water, it'd be impossible for the others to catch up.

Here is the key: Would third party be supporting the Wii U? Nope. They couldn't have competed with those games. Their sales would probably have been worse, minus ZombiU. But third parties wouldn't have supported Nintendo past the other guys releasing their hardware.

And if you deny that those games coming out wouldn't have impacted the sales, then I can't do anything else to prove to you my point.

This is not a Wii U doomed article i just really want you guys opinion. Now i know nintendo makes consoles based on what they believed and they have said they dont follow Sony and Microsoft. So if you have been living under a rock the ps4 and xb1 are selling lot hotcakes. The consoles are the exact opposite for the most part of what the Wii U is. More powerful, Bigger(physical size), and more exspensive. So what gives why are they selling and the Wii U is not at least like i think it should. Is it just marketing... or are the consumer telling Nintendo they are ok with paying  more and getting more.

you thoughts?

So, I don't think ANYONE can say for sure. Why? Has Nintendo perfectly executed their plan, and was their plan the right one? One, no they didn't. They planned on more games being released and that didn't happen. If they were able to get all the games that we are still waiting for things could have been different. Imagine a Mario 3D World, DK:TF, and X all being released last holiday season. With proper marketing that would have boosted sales.

However, Nintendo has stated they mid read foreign trends. And they plan on correcting that this year.

So, it's a mixed bag.

You brain peoples damage with this retread ridiculous tripe. Get the fuk off these forums and go to VGcharts. These idiotic posts fit nicely with those brain dead  pickled egg farts.

Wow, really?

#270566 2004-Nintendo's Future is bleak. Doomed

Posted by MorbidGod on 04 February 2014 - 09:19 PM

Not yet, but there is still time for that to change.

Why so much hate for Nintendo? I can understand being discouraged and disappointed, but Nintendo has slumps like every company and, unlike multiple companies who fail, they are admitting they need to change. So it's not even pointing towards failure yet.

Well they're struggling financially at the moment and that's even with their handheld system being the best selling console of 2013. They're chasing the casual market yet again by delving into the smartphone and tablet industries and they're opening up to the idea of leasing out their IP's.

Nintendo may not be doomed, but the fact the founding family of Nintendo are set to sell of their entire shares to Nintendo says everything to me.

Struggling financially? I think you need to redefine struggling. Having three losses in a row in over like, what, over 100 years of just making profits (including when the company opened as a card maker)? They are loaded. And EVERY company goes through times where they loss money. It happens.

Just to show you, http://www.nytimes.c...-writedown.html MS took a dive on a Qtr. Yes, not yearly (that I could find on a five minute search on my phone), but it happens. It's only the end if the company goes the wrong direction for too long. Nintendo hasn't reached that point yet.

#270421 2004-Nintendo's Future is bleak. Doomed

Posted by MorbidGod on 04 February 2014 - 04:09 AM

So...the DS destroyed the PSP therefore, the Wii U is going to somehow destroy the ps4/xbox one? Seriously, what is the point of the article? GAMES sell consoles, handheld or otherwise. The DS has good games, the psp, not so much.

I don't care how many DS's were sold, I still think touchscreen gaming is inherently casual. AHH, ignore me, I just get frustrated when people just keep spouting Nintendo's old successes when I'm trying to find awesome games for TODAY.

Point is Nintendo isn't doomed.

#270064 One Game, Could Change Everything

Posted by MorbidGod on 02 February 2014 - 11:57 AM

I know we all have heard this before. That all Nintendo needs is that one killer app that will save. I've mentioned in the past that a combination of Mario, DK, Mario Kart, and Super Smash could (and still will) save the Wii U.

However, I've had this idea EVER since Nintendo announced the GamePad has NFC AND I realized what Skylanders is. If your not connecting the dot ... Let me do it for you.

Pokemon. The game that saved the GameBoy back in the day. Could do the same for the Wii U. It be a perfect game to take control of the GamePad. You can use it for inventory, menus or even A-Symmetrical Game Play. Using the NFC, and a combination of Pokemon cards that have NFC chips in them, you could call upon a Pokemon with the card. Just like Skylanders.

Better yet, since they are now willing to work with third party on their IP, why not work with Activision on this game? They could help bring new life jn that series. Both the trading card game and video game.

What do you guys think?

#268570 What could Nintendo do for the Wii U? (please no stupid ideas)

Posted by MorbidGod on 25 January 2014 - 06:17 AM

First and foremost, create a new Wii U. Call it the Wii U Slim or something like that. Or Wii U Xtra ... Or whatever. I really don't have a good name for it. However, this new Wii U should come with 150 GB of built in storage. Drop the price of the current 32GB model to 150GB and the 150GB be 319.99. Also, it should be bundled with a free game.

To make current customers happy, for one month after the new console is announced and released, let them get a free external HD. Then after that sell them at a discounted rate online (like 39.99) that way it's cheaper then going to the store.

Second thing they need to do is go on the Today show and show off the latest Wii U Fit. It would be really good way to advertise the Wii U to the casual market and get them interested in the console. Then you could show off the Nintendo TVii and tell the customers directly why they should upgrade from their old Wii.

Third, they need to make more games. Try to have a new game from either a third party or first party every quarter. To advertise to current Wii U owners, when they power on the console advertise the latest game on the controller screen. That way if you want to hear more about it you can tap it and a trailer will show on the TV screen.

That's what Nintendo, realistically, can do to get more units sold. But this isn't the only option. Hopefully Nintendo is thinking of their own way to get more people.

#267309 Satoru Iwata: "I'm not going resign"

Posted by MorbidGod on 18 January 2014 - 04:15 PM

He had 3 sucessful platforms because there was a market for the at the time. The market that he's trying to lead nintendo on is long gone. I think they should fire him and replace him with someone that's more in touch with the current gaming community

There actually wasn't a "casual market" as it is defined today. Iwata and Co. Created that market with the DS, Wii and 3DS. But, as I stated back then, the true test isn't whether the Wii is successful or not. It's whether or not the Wii 2 (or, as we know now, Wii U) will be successful. So far Nintendo hasn't done well with the casual market (or any market).

Answer this question: What was the initial draw for casual gamers? The motion controllers. Games that can be pick up and played in short, fun bursts like Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit.

Answer this question: For casual gamers, what is the initial draw? Wii Sports!!!! Wait ... No. Motion controls!!! Wait ..  No. It has it, but no new fun games for short bursts of fun. These people don't care about DK Mario Batman GTA or anything like that. They want Wii Sports HD. They want a new Wii Play. A new Wii Fit. They also want a reason to buy a new console. Why should they buy a new Wii U when they have their Wii? Nintendo HAS TO answer that question for the casual market, and they haven't even tried.

Their messages are mixed and they need to get it straight. They will be fine, but to have the Wii sales numbers they need to answer these questions for the casual market.

Nintendo may well post a third consecutive fiscal loss and if this happens, Iwata's approval ratings may slide further downwards.

I like Iwata but the way in which the 3DS and Wii U were launched has hurt Nintendo. They released these devices without any must own/must play games and with very little marketing. Fortunately their AAA games Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 helped change the fortunes of the 3DS and I hope their AAA games help change the Wii U's fortunes.

But I think it maybe time for a change, Iwata as much as I like him just seems to have a lack of understanding of what gamers want. Why force the tablet controller onto customers who have no interest in such devices? It should have been an optional accessory with the Pro Controller being the standard issue controller. Had they done this ans then had they released Zelda U and Super Smash Bros as launch games, then I highly doubt the Wii U would have been struggling like it was throughout 2013.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Past success is past success, all eyes in Nintendo's board room is on the present and the immediate future.

If they had Zelda HD and Super Smash at launch and sold the Wii U with poop as the controller, and it would have sold like gold. So what does that tell you? The controller doesn't matter and that is not what sells the system.

Let Nintendo say it simply for you:
http://m.youtube.com...h?v=n_E2lh1lgmk

At around 2:50ish the Nintendo says its all about games. That's what Ninteneo didn't do.

#267290 Satoru Iwata: "I'm not going resign"

Posted by MorbidGod on 18 January 2014 - 01:52 PM

It's time he resigns. We need fresh blood in the company.

He came in 2001 as fresh blood and, until the Wii U, has done very well. I think they will be fine.

#267274 2014 Outlook And Guide for Nintendo

Posted by MorbidGod on 18 January 2014 - 01:09 PM

Hello Folks,

It's been a while since I have talked here. I've posted here and there, but since I've hit financial trouble, sold my PC I built and Wii U, I have kind of gone away until I can buy a new Wii U (Which I fully plan on doing).

On that note, however, I do want to discuss what we know about 2014 for Nintendo and what it means for it's outlook.

First game I want to discuss is X. Or whatever they end up calling it. I truly believe this will make or break the Wii U in Japan. They love RPG's and this game looks huge and epic. ASSUMING NOA releases this game in USA, it should sell well but WILL NOT BE a system seller. I just don't see it.

Mario Kart 8. Need I say more? Parents all over will want to get this game and the Wii U for their kids. Hell, I am a parent and I WANT this game. Looks bigger and better than Sonic Racing that I am enjoying now. This will move at least one million units. Hopefully most of those sales come from NEW CUSTOMERS and not just current owners.

Super Smash Bros 4. This game will sell even more than Mario Kart and X. It's the one fangasim game that everyone - even Xbox and PS players want. And it's worth 300+ to play.

That's all the games that come to mind. I'm probably skipping some. But if I am, so are non Nintendo owners and thus Nintendo needs to tell us about these games.

So, I was reading IGN ( http://www.ign.com/a...the-wii-u-fails ) and I have to say ... I agree and don't agree. Agree that, yes the Wii U could fail and Nintendo will be fine. But disagree that all is doom and gloom. Remember, Sony and the PS3 was in the same spot right now. http://vgsales.wikia...i/Playstation_3 In fact, Sony only sold 2.33 million units in the forth quarter of 2008 which is the same quarter Nintendo is in. Wii U just sold a half a million in Dec 2013. I don't see a reason for that to slip, assuming DK, Mario Kart and X get released in this last quarter or 2013. If they don't have these and other games coming out, then they might not make my prediction.

And need I remind you, that the Sony PS3 ended up selling over 80 million units. And had, just like the Wii U, a rough start. And remember, my early prediction for total lifetime sales by 2017 is around 70 million. No where near the Wii sales numbers, but close to Sony's (which yea, that puts them in dead last). Buy is 70 million sales - of a console about fifty to hundred dollars more starting out - really bad? I don't think so. It doesn't meet expectations, sure. But maybe Nintendo had higher than realistic expectations. Maybe everyone else does.

So, what should Nintendo do? Work with third parties, like they did with Lego City Undercover, like they did with the Sonic exclusives. Like they did in the past for F-Zero. Choose these developers wisely. Let them use your IP Nintendo isn't planning on using. This will help get exclusive games to your system. And UP YOUR GAME. Need to make more games and get them out on time.

Cater to the Nintendo crowd. Screw everyone else. You can get to 70 million sales if you sale to the people who will buy a Wii U. Buy try to expand to people who won't waste money and resources. So don't.

Anyway, that's my ten cents.

#266726 The Secret Developers: Wii U - the inside story

Posted by MorbidGod on 15 January 2014 - 07:25 AM

Good read.

I wasn’t surprised to hear that Nintendo threw together their online features at the last moment, though I’m blown away that they don’t even have people there who know how PSN & XBL work - that’s insane.

I suppose the same explains their lousy DRM  policies.

It's not that insane. If you want to make a copy of what the other guy has - like what Google did with the Android - then you have your workers use the other guys product. But, if you want to create something that is your own, then don't even research what the other guys are doing. In the end, it lets you create your own unique product. Like WebOS made by Palm. Hopefully Nintendo does better though.

#266356 Star Fox Academy

Posted by MorbidGod on 13 January 2014 - 04:16 PM

Hey guys! I have a really good idea for a new star fox game. Star Fox Academy, a game where young Fox McCloud learns how to fly his Airwing. He'd have challenges to beat, races to win and courses to complete. And during this time he can go into battle possibly too. And I think Sega and Nintendo should work together for this game. What you think?

If said mobile phone wasn't a Nintendo made phone, I would go crazy. Nintendo makes hardware for their own games.
