#318128 Oh yeah, I never made a music thread here

Posted by Waller on 24 June 2017 - 11:12 AM

These are very impressive Waller

I started out with piano when I was in middle school for about a year but then I switched over to classical guitar. I don't really play that often nowdays tho :<

I remember you said you really liked drawing, you should post some drawings here too :>

Thank you Horchata.

Haha, yeah, I know a lot of people who are in your exact same situation. For some reason everyone just loves to drop instruments in favor of guitar, I guess it's because they're more practical than most other instruments? Either way, I would love to hear what you can play!

Maybe I will if I ever sit down and actually draw again, I don't think I've drawn anything other than stupid napkin doodles since last year. I'm barely capable of forcing myself to stop playing Trails in the Sky 3/Guilty Gear Rev 2 long enough to go practice piano, drawing is completely out of the question atm :P

Wow this is good stuff, I don't really understand this kinda thing but I assume you've put a lot of work into it :)

I play the drums :)

Have done so for many many years, at this point I can play pretty much any song bar certain Led Zeppelin songs and other songs by insanely talented drummers.

Favourite band to play along to is MuteMath, Darren King (their drummer) is phenomenal.

Oh, the video is just a MIDI being played back in Synthesia, it's just something I put there so as to not leave the screen completely black. Just think of it as each color representing a different instrument. It took me roughly two months to make the arrangement, but that's mostly because I'm a slow and lazy worker, I could probably get it done in less than a week if I took it like a job.

Oh yeah, I remember reading a couple of status updates that alluded to you playing the drums. That's awesome Mewbot, I've always wanted to learn drums myself but unfortunately they're too expensive for me, and I wouldn't have any idea where to start anyway since there's no music teachers here. Anyway, I've never heard of MuteMath before, do you have any particular album from them you would recommend?

This is nothing but a shameless plug.  Actually, I just wanted to see if I could make the Soundcloud embed code work for once.

Edit: I couldn't.

#318027 Keeping the forum going

Posted by Waller on 30 April 2016 - 03:25 PM

I'm 90% sure the only reason Feld0 keeps this site still running is because of the ad revenue.

Usually, forums only make enough ad revenue to sustain themselves, and that's when they have a decently large active userbase. MLPForums is much more active than this site has ever been, and yet Feld0 has to rely on user donations to actually maintain the damn thing because the ad revenue just can't keep up with the costs of the website.

I'm certain the only reason the site is still up is because Feld0 is too attached to actually to take it down. And because it's being maintained by MLPForums donations.

#317329 Thoughts on Linkle

Posted by Waller on 24 November 2015 - 05:39 PM

As far as being the protag of a mainline Zelda game? No. Link has always been a male. No matter what people say, Link is a character, and he's male. There's a reason he always looks similar (green tunic, yellow droopy hair), and he's always called Link in non-Zelda games. MK8, Smash... Always referred to as Link. Changing that for no reason other than to appease SJWs is not a good idea. If they come up with a good story (or even better, gameplay) reason to have a female Link, then by all means, do it.

Linkle being the protagonist of a mainline Zelda =/= Linkle being Link.

Either way, Link as a character is not defined by his gender, so I don't know what your problem is here. It's not the same situation as in, say, Mario suddenly turning into a woman, because Mario in every game is the same entity while most Zelda games have a different Link.

To all the people saying Mewtwo is too expensive, go google the Skullgirls Kickstarter debacle to get a good rundown of how much developing a fighting game character costs. Charging $4 for him is hardly unreasonable.

CUD, when I buy a disk, I expect to be "entitled" to the contents of the disk. There's no justifying when a company sells me content and then tells me to pay for it again once I try to access said content... which is basically what companies do with locked-in-disk DLC.

And on another note, stop saying free content. It's not free content, the publishers accounted for the extra game modes when they set the price.

Spoiler

... Not making any money is a big deal. You kind of need money to eat.

You'd save money because you would only be buying the games you're absolutely sure you want, instead of the ones you think that look kind of interesting and decide to wait for them to go on a bundle. I'm gonna wager you don't wait for Nintendo's games to drop in price.

It's their choice in the same way jumping down was the choice of someone surrounded by flames on the roof of a building. These devs chose to run through the flames, because they don't have any other choice if they want to survive. See, when you sell games for pennies, you create market expectation about the price games should be selled at, and so devs who develop games that should be sold for $15 are forced to sell them for $2 on sales or bundled with 7 other games for pennies, because the market simply won't buy them at the standard price anymore. Couple this with Steam greenlight, which effectively opened the floodgates to allow anything to enter the platform, and you're pretty much recreating the exact situation that lead to the crash many years ago: Steam is a flooded market where the customers don't have any real way to tell what's good from bad, so they're just buying what's marked down, which makes it impossible for the larger companies (mid-tier developers like Paradox and indies like SuperGiantGames categorize as this) to make a profit off of their sales.

That could eventually lead to those larger companies making the good games to throw their hands up and give up on investing time and money on the platform. It's impossible to tell exactly how this will manifest at this point, but you can be sure it won't be any good for the industry or the customer.

But you know what? I'm sorry for targeting you. It's not your fault and it was stupid of me to insinuate it is.

I'm looking at my steam list now, about 30/71 I've actually played. About 25 of them itself is from a humble bundle where I only wanted 1 game from the 8 they gave me.

Congrats, you're part of the problem. Maybe you should have considered buying the individual games you wanted instead of screwing over the developers by forcing them to share your money with 7 other developer teams. You'd save money, have a cleaner steam library and support the developers of the games you like all at once.

So mean, so ignorant.
Ooh, and everyone who buys Nintendo games are just kids anyway. Wasting time.

You're the ignorant one.

More than one third of Steam games are never played. Steam's entire business model is built around making you buy for pennies games you didn't actually want.

#309565 Post One or Two Interesting Facts About Yourself

Posted by Waller on 24 February 2015 - 12:24 AM

  • I made "fulfilling my new year's resolution" my new year's resolution. I... think I'm doing pretty well?
  • I generally spend two hours of my day doing figure drawing and landscape studies. I should probably spend more time designing stuff, but... ;_;
  • I named my two dogs "Rotulador" and "Stanislavski". My cat's name is "Gato", though in practice I just call him meow meow meow.
  • I have a digital art collection with more or less 5,200 artworks.
  • I hate cereal.

  • #308258 Your Top 5 or 10 DS Games

Posted by Waller on 05 February 2015 - 06:07 PM

So now that I got reminded of this thread, you really should add Trauma Center to your list of games.

It's a crazy good puzzle game that makes great use of the touch screen and has easily the most whacked out plot that goes totally anime in the best way possible. It has a very solid remake on the Wii, though, so if you want to get it there that's fine as well.

I'll also second Order of Ecclesia, it's the best Castlevania game on the DS by far.

I almost want to recommend Flower Sun and Rain but it's a game that is so bat rainbow insane it makes David Lynch films look sane. So I will throw the name out but a play at your own risk.

I'm gonna have to check this out, I didn't know Suda developed a DS game.

Oh god. We've reached a point where 60FPS' is something you can boast about when you're developing a shooter.

Welp, considering that one 4Chan post has been pretty spot-on so far, we'll probably see Metroid somewhere around here. That's gonna be rad.

I'm loving those ridiculous jumps in Xenoblade, though after playing through Just Cause 2 I'll probably feel constrained without any aerial travel available at all times. :'(
