#316595 Windows 10

Posted by Bill Cipher on 13 August 2015 - 06:41 PM

I've been using it for about a week. I spent about 24 hours trying to get it to install because Windows Update was Borked, the Installer/Easy tool was borked, I had to change my CD Drive read type from SATA to IDE, and I had to uninstall my Anti-virus to get it to install.

It's cool, but definitely wait if you're not enthusiastic about it.

Went on my Comics Run Today:

JfwMwbG.jpg?1

Read them on the bus home(Minus SW4, which I picked up early this week but It was because it's Bloody Secret Wars.

Starfire #2 was/is actually pretty good, though it definitely feels like a counterpoint to her Nu52 version where uh...Yeah. The less we talk about that the better. It's closer to her Teen Titan(Not Go!, screw that show) version, though obviously she's solo in this.

Renew Your Vows #2..Holy hell this book is good. I actually liked Superior Spiderman(I know others did, but there's so much complaints about from what I've seen) and this book is just..Yes. kind of making me wish Parker as a parent will be transferred over to the Post SW Marvel Universe, but I doubt it.

A-Force #2 definitely has me interested in how this is going to stick around, as it's been confirmed that A-Force is part of the Post SW Universe. It was a nice read, but it felt a bit short(Almost like the last issue). It's a fun read but very little happened even compared to RYN, despite being roughly the same length.

And Secret Wars.. Just..Yes. All I can say is that as long as Hickman doesn't massively screw something up, this book is going to be known as one of the best Crossover events in Comics. The main book covers everything you need to know and the side books are completely optional, but missing out on the main book seems just so wrong.

#315793 Comics Thread: Ultimate Detective Guardians of the Multiversity, Now with ACTION

Posted by Bill Cipher on 04 July 2015 - 01:30 PM

Picked up a copy of Batman #41 today. First Batman comic I've read. All my Batman generally comes from pop culture and what I've seen of the DCAU and various other TV shows. I REALLY enjoyed it! It had great length, great art, dialogue, and was a REALLY easy jumping on point. Pretty much Batman's dead, here's an energy monster, and here's a few flashbacks to set up the new Batman. I only intended on reading #41, but I'll definitely read this volume. It's so interesting!

Batman #41 is the one with Mecha Bunny Batman, right? :P I need to pick that up when I get the chance, especially since Snyder's done such a good job with his previous Nu52 Batman work. If you get the chance, I reccomend reading all the Mainline Batman books from the Nu52. Court of Owls is honestly amazing.

I really enjoyed it! I liked Ock's character through the series, I think he made a good hero at times. I've heard he shows up again during Spider-Verse, so I'll also be looking into that soon.

I did like some of the bits of All-New Ultimates I got to read, but other than that I never really got into the Ultimate Universe beyond Spider-Man stories. Do you have any recommendations?

I haven't looked at anything on the DC front lately, but the new Batman and Superman series look interesting. I never really liked Superman in the New 52 though

Spiderman was basically the only consistently good thing the Ultimate Universe produced. We got Incest in the Avengers FFS :P

SpOck's whole character kind of makes me want a Superior Spiderman Movie, I'll be honest.

My comments on The-Man-Who-Dresses-like-a-Bat from above remain true. I've never really been a Superman guy(Though I have enjoyed several of his stuff). The new series sounds at least interesting, especially with the 3 books running one arc but different timing and such. I picked up Starfire #1 and it's decent. I enjoy the art and it's nice to see Starfire not being what she was in the Nu52 :P

Posted by Bill Cipher on 03 July 2015 - 10:11 PM

Marvel's thing isn't really a reboot though. Reboot to me implies new continuity, which the Post SW Universe isn't :P

Portal, if you're interested, I can give you the digital codes for the books you're interested that you might not afford when the All New Relaunch happens(Namely Ms. Marvel/ASM/SM, as I'm going to be reading them as well and I have little use for the Digital codes.) :P.

I only just recently finished Superior Spider-Man and have started Amazing Spider-Man volume 3, I really want to read more pf Silk.

I love the new direction Marvel is going in and I can't wait to see more of Miles Morales!

What did you think of Superior? I'm in the middle of a reread of it and I'm liking it a lot more the second time around.

Miles Morales is honestly going to be amazing in the 616. Him and the Maker are the only good remaining parts of the Ultimate Universe.

As for my reads, I'm finally near a physical comic shop, so YAY! I've been reading Secret Wars because Based Hickman and this may be the best Marvel event in ages. Renew Your Vows, A-Force, the mainline book, Infinity Gauntlet, etc.

#315320 Disney and Nintendo strike deal for films games toys and more - RUMOR

Posted by Bill Cipher on 24 June 2015 - 05:21 PM

Personally, I'm a fan of this as an idea. Granted, I'm probably the biggest Disney fanboy on the forum, but whatever :P

Being honest, Nintendo's going to need to diversify, and Disney is basically Nintendo but for Film/TV. They've got the large enough brand power that they can help push the Nintendo IPs in ways that Nintendo can't alone. This even nicely fits with the Netflix Zelda idea, as Disney has signed a major contract with Netflix involving content.

The only issue I see with this is regarding the whole amusement parks issue, though judging by everything Universal probably presented an amazing pitch  that Nintendo chose over Disney's nothing(Disney has 2 major projects in the Amusement park area including Avatar Land and Disneyland Shanghai, both of which are eating a lot of resources).

As for the Amazon thing, it's not the games are exclusive, it's merely Amazon having the games on the service.

#314220 Atlus Announces The Legend of Legacy to the West, For Real This Time

Posted by Bill Cipher on 11 June 2015 - 01:48 PM

Excuse me for a second:

Go Quack yourself Atlus. You're a bunch of Quacking Quacks who think that you get to magically charge $10 more in Canada. I know our Dollar is in the Quacker right now, but this game is already Niche as hell. You barely get away with this with EO/SMT/Persona, but this is just quacking on the fan's faces. Giving it a $5 increase over Nintendo games is absurd.

Shame, as I was really looking forward to getting it at launch. Hell, I don't GET Atlus nowdays, because they pull crap like this and then in 6 months the game is half or more off digitally. They're losing month 1 sales with this quack, and that's stupid.

#314023 Most awkward moments at Minecon 2013

Posted by Bill Cipher on 08 June 2015 - 12:46 PM

Oh lord. I like Minecraft, I enjoy playing it, and I am on the Autistic Spectrum, but that whole thing was just awful. Like...I'm awkward, but that transcends awkward into full on Beta-ness, on par with the level of quality that Ubisoft released AC:U in.

#313336 The Great Splatoon Status Debate.

Posted by Bill Cipher on 25 May 2015 - 04:23 PM

Well, I'm jumping in to just add ONE thing, because personally This argument seems to be going around in circles/Feedback loops.

That it may take less time or be less difficult than making maps for a shooter does not excuse them including so little multiplayer content for their multiplayer focused game. You said it yourself, they've only had about a year to develop this, where as other Nintendo IPs get around three to four, if not more. Why is it that they're unwilling to give Splatoon more time? Again, it comes across as laziness, impatience, and/or stubbornness on their part to allow them more time to include more content.

They had a year to develop it, most likely because(If someone with actual knowledge of the dev cycle can find evidence) This is the EAD Team who usually works on Mario. If I had to venture a guess, Nintendo's looked at sales data and noticed that the 3DS only started selling at a decent pace due to the double bombs of MK7 and SM3DL. Considering NX might be launching 2016, Nintendo's going to want a Mario Game(3D Mario most likely in some form) to come out at/near launch, and they'll be trying to give ample time on it(Anyone remember Kid Icarus: Uprising and how it was going to be a launch title? Yeah, that was a launch title in the same way me traveling back in time to stop the Assassination of JFK and ending up a year late is stopping it). I could see Iwata/the higher ups going "We want a 3D Mario Game for NX's launch", EAD realizing that they can make an NX 3D Mario in about a year and half(Assuming testing/localization/everything of 3-6 months, they've been on that pace since Galaxy 2 roughly without the HD..issues[Galaxy 2 May 2010, SM3DL November 2011, SM3DW November 2013, Splatoon May 2015]) so they time to fill.

It's likely that the plan is once Splatoon finishes development(Which it has because Global testing) about 75% of the team will go to work on Super Mario NeXt while the 25% left will be making/finishing the maps/patches and the like.

TL;DR-Iwata has visions of the Future, but thanks to the EADNoda he can help make sure everything goes optimally.

#313233 The Great Splatoon Status Debate.

Posted by Bill Cipher on 24 May 2015 - 10:22 PM

If you ask me, I say we need to stop fighting about the map content and debate the real issue here:

How the hell did Nintendo Greenlight both Codename: Squids Next Door and Abe Lincoln Vs. Aliens in the same general time period?

#312524 Disney Infinity 3.0 - Star Wars

Posted by Bill Cipher on 30 April 2015 - 05:11 PM

I know it sounds weird, but These actually look like the best looking "Realistic" DI models I've seen, probably because they have a base in the CGI TV Shows.

Moderately excited for this.

#311783 AngryJoeShow Nintendo Rant

Posted by Bill Cipher on 09 April 2015 - 11:53 PM

photo-6368.jpg?_r=1366489592

:P

Anyways... I get that he's mad that Content ID took his monies away, but what I don't get is why he doesn't just do Nintendo's creator program? That's, like, the only way to legally monetize YouTube videos of their games, right? Why did he blatantly monetize the video, despite not being in Nintendo's creator program, and despite knowing this would happen because of it? Also, it was super childish of him to take down the video. Can't you appeal Content ID flags? Couldn't he join Nintendo's creator program? Nah, just take the video down cuz Nintendo made me mad.

That's another thing about this whole ordeal... Was this even Nintendo's fault? As far as I know, Nintendo had nothing to do with the flag, other than that they uploaded footage of MP10 to their channel, which Content ID then uses to flag videos. AJ didn't even give Nintendo a chance to say anything or do anything about it, he just flipped out as soon as it happened. It would be like me making a fancy drink for someone ("someone" being Angry Joe), putting it on the table in from of them and saying, "Don't shake the table or it'll spill." They proceed to shake the table vigorously and, surprise surprise, it spills all over. Then they instantly get mad at me, even though they broke the rules, and I didn't even cause the incident.

Now, I haven't watched the MP10 video, so I don't know how much valuable input he provided, but it does sound like it was basically an excerpt from a casual stream from his Twitch, not the most riveting and insightful thing. But like I said, I didn't watch it, so I'm not sure on that. Not necessarily saying that should have bearing on whether it gets flagged or not, but I'd have a lot more sympathy for Joe if the video was like a 10-15 minute review or something.

Either way, It is Nintendo's decision to use Content ID (I think it is, right?) and to have the creator program, and it's perfectly fine and legal for them to do so. Just like it's fine for Joe to pull his video. I just don't have much sympathy for Joe when he blatantly broke the rules and got mad when he was punished for it.

Because Nintendo's Creator Program is bollocks. If you sign up for it, you get 60% per each video/70% if you dedicate your whole channel. Now, this isn't bad by itself(Though being fair, as I have said before Nintendo's Games are more stuff you watch for fun/the player, not the game, so Nintendo autoclaiming 40% is kind of absurd) but it's the fact that the Content Creator System is incredibly restrictive on what you CAN show. Yes, you can show some of the big games but there are several games that Nintendo has published/made that aren't part of the allowed games that have been done such as Xenoblade Chronicles, Kid Icarus Uprising, Super Smash Brothers, Golden Sun, etc.

Add to this limitations of what you can show with what the agreement means. If you sign your channel up for the full deal, you can ONLY have games from Nintendo that are approved. If you're someone like my Channel, where I'm working on a few PC games as ideas for Let's Plays, I can't do it because something like Dragon Quest IX because it's not approved Nothing else unless you want to make another channel. As well, if you choose individual videos, you effectively have to have Nintendo approve EVERY Video you do before you get any money from it. If they don't like something, congrats, you can't make that video.

It's also the fact that Nintendo is one of the few companies doing this. Several independent developers are perfectly fine with Let's Plays/Youtubers playing their games because they realize that Let's Plays are free advertising effectively. The Videos show the game and act as a way to reach an audience that traditional advertising can't. And guess what? It's been shown to actually WORK. Five Nights at Freddy's and Minecraft have growth that can be tied in part due to the Youtube promotion of their games. Xenoblade Chronicles has had several people become interested in it/picking up copies of the Wii Version due to a Let's Play done by one of the biggest Nintendo Focused Let's Players. For Nintendo to control what is effectively free marketing for the games they make(They put NOTHING into the Videos and they get all the profits from the games sold as a result of the videos) is baffling.

I think the issue is not about the ad revenue, but more so that Nintendo wants to protect it's IP and be able to control how it is delivered to the consumer. It could be argued that gaming media should be treated the same as the rest of the entertainment industry: tv, movies, music. Now I realize why Mystery Science Theater 3000 commentary was only ever done over movies whose copyrights expired or where licensing was obtained.

Think of Nintendo's YouTube Partnership as a licensing opportunity. It could also be argued Nintendo's IP's have much greater overall value then any other gaming company. They just want to be in control of their own content. It's pretty simple.

It's pretty easy to create unique content, Joe's rant video is a good example. Unique content isn't full screening a video game while talking over it. No matter how talented or entertaining the person is. Also, the issue with the MP10 video, if Joe would not have "monetized" the video, it would probably still be up.

They want to be in control of their content, yes, which I don't blame them at all for. However, what remains is that if you ask people what they like about Nintendo Games, it is almost always the gameplay. You can't get Gameplay from a video.

I feel like I'm the only one who is actually trying to understand where Joe/Youtube gamers are coming from.

#311343 Zelda Wii u delay = NX launch title?

Posted by Bill Cipher on 01 April 2015 - 08:07 PM

No, just..No

NX is 90% going to be a handheld. To delay a console game on the scale of Zelda U for a handheld is a terrible idea.

Wii U Successor will launch probably 2017/2018, I could see them doing another GC/GBA style launch.
