#267221 Why 2013 has been the worst year in gaming.

Posted by Lupaie on 18 January 2014 - 05:50 AM

Most of the reactions here make me wonder if the commenters even took a look at that film. And if so, if they're competent enough to understand what the movie was about. It actually says that 2013 had a lot of good software but its focus is about what publishers and first parties are doing with the marketplace and us as consumers. Sure it is not only 2013 but earlier signs too, yet I hold my breath for what is coming next and hope that we as consumers dare to stand up against such practises.

#266983 Was Nintendo wrong... what is the consumer saying?

I think they've just had piss-poor marketing. That's the main problem.

#267073 a better article than that euro games peice

Posted by Alex Atkin UK on 17 January 2014 - 09:23 AM

Yet companies like eurogamer say otherwise.

No, they said that when trying to PORT a game that is completely optimised for Xbox 360/PS3 to Wii U, its hard and expensive.

Its unlikely small indie devs ever pushed those consoles that hard, its certainly unlikely they heavily optimised the engine.

As an example, it should be very easy to port between ALL platforms when using Unity, as the engine developers did the most important work of optimising for each platform.  However if your game heavily modified the engine or was optimised for specific consoles over the past 7 years, its going to be very very hard to port to Wii U.

The question is not "is the Wii U more powerful than Xbox 360/PS3" because the answer is clearly yes.  The question is can your game be ported to Wii U and actually take advantage of its unique architecture so you are actually tapping that power, in a cost effective manner.  So logically for small indie projects the answer is more likely to be yes than for the big developers like the Eurogamer articles are clearly from.

Bottom line, PS4/Xbox One are enough of a jump forwards to temporarily offset the problem of optimisation.  Combine that with the fact many games are also ported to PC anyway, so they already have a version of the engine partially optimised for PS4/Xbox One hardware.  Even if they don't, they have the PS4, Xbox One AND PC market that benefit from doing so, making it cost effective.  The fact that optimising for Wii U benefits ONLY Wii U, is by far its biggest stumbling block and is what those big developers are moaning about.

The problem for me wasn't Hype, the problem is the sheer idiocy.
Showing a 2d platformer

the vgx

a show

that says "next gen" every 10 horsing seconds

and eats the carp form ms and sony's softshell lizard.

These people do not want a platformer. They want an adventure game, zeldou, a shooter, meteroidsu, an rpg, xu, a ogregoty weeaboo fanservice game like smevtfsxyzfireemblemcrossover would even appeal to them more than a platformer, let alone a 2d platformer.

Exactly! They could shown a new trailer for "X" and reveal its final name. That's the kind of thing that brings hype.

*Chucks a refrigerator*

I'm done, Nintendo... You had so many chances to wow us and give us a real good reason to defend you, and while you didn't give us "bad" things, you disappointed us by over-hyping mediocre announcements. Every time, we give you another chance. "Nintendo will pull through. They'll fulfill themselves next time." And I'm sure you will. I highly doubt the Wii U will die anytime soon, but it's this kind of utter stupidity that gets you ridiculed. I'll support the Wii U, and I'll still "defend" it to some extent, but I just can't accept this as a good idea. This is one thing that I can't defend.

Of course, knowing me, I'll probably change my opinion by tomorrow... xD

I really dont think thats necessary.... You see something you like, push home, open the browser, go to a site like minus.com, hit upload, choose the picture (gamepad or tv screen) and then post the provided link.

Thank you for that advice.

Here's my very first screen shot of The Wonderful 101!

#255189 20-Year Microsoft Analyst Rick Sherlund says Xbox “Generates” $2 billion...

Posted by Hank Hill on 08 November 2013 - 08:53 PM

wow i am amazed at all the sony fanboys on this site I like the ps4 but I don't understand why all nintendo people trash the xbox one for no reason its an awesome system and will probably win the next console war as well.

You know, it's probably not for no reason.

It's probably because they tried to do away with used games/game sharing, always-online DRM, always-watching, always-listening, always-on Kinect, and proceeded to tell everybody to cram it in their ear, A.K.A.  #Dealwithit, when asked "what about people with poor internet?" They also told people that all of these "features" couldn't be turned off with the flick of a switch only to find out, lo and behold, that these features were turned off at the flick of a switch. Even then, there's still online DRM that requires the system to connect to the internet every 24 hours.

It's probably because being blatantly disrespected and lied to as a consumer for the sake of higher profit isn't high on the average persons' "I enjoy this greatly" list.

It's probably because most of Microsoft's unveiling of the Xbone was "TV SPORTS TV SPORTS SPORTS TV SPORTS MEDIA, oh yeah some games too but SPORTS SPORTS MEDIA TV TVTVMEDIAPASPORTSPORUAPJFGAS:FKASFAJKDF:"

But, I don't know. I guess it could just be anything that makes them hate it. Like the color green.

Let's blame the color green, that seems like a good scapegoat.

#255286 Can Mario&Sonic survive the PS4 launch? Can Zelda&Mario survive the X...

Posted by Mitch on 09 November 2013 - 10:57 AM

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games is the AAA game the world has been asking for and will crush Sony and the PS4 launch...

People all over the world have been cancelling their PS4 preorders and using the $399 they would have given to Sony to buy multiple copies of Mario and Sonic

#252406 Does IGN hate Nintendo?

Posted by Nollog on 20 October 2013 - 06:55 PM

They never had good gameplay in the first place. :P

That's correct, to have good gameplay you'd have to have gameplay.
Online deathmatches are beyond the control of the game designers, so can't be credited to the game.
