#257149 Christmas Gift

Posted by Penguin101 on 20 November 2013 - 10:52 AM

I'll plan WWHD in the future, bought myself Deus Ex: Human Revolution - DC and Splinter Cell: Blacklist today as a treat. Hopefully my siblings and brother in law will all chip in and buy me Need for Speed: Most Wanted U

Maybe in Jan I'll see where Arkham Origins/Pikmin 3/AC: IV is in price, until then I've gotta save up. Looks like WWHD in Feb for my Birthday though. Argh so man good games coming out 2014 including Watch_Dogs, X, Zelda U, Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8. I need a job so I can just buy all of them in one massive payday blow-out

#256049 CoD Ghosts Wii U to run at 880x720

Posted by Penguin101 on 13 November 2013 - 01:46 PM

I've taken a look at the Wii U against the PS4, 360 and PS3 looks like it uses very similar textures and tessellation to the PS4 version at a lower resolution, the lighting is current gen, and I *think* physics are current gen. It lacks the AA of the PS4 version. But the framerate looks lovely.

All in all it's the best console version using the current gen engine. I predict that with more resources in the next COD. They could push better lighting or physics, but it will probably be locked at 720p.

Looking at the PS4, 360 and Wii U versions of Assasins creed similar patterns emerge. Wii U has very similar textures to the PS4 version, and slightly better lighting than the 360, but rendered at a lower resolution. My prediction for watch dogs on Wii U will be next gen textures, higher end current gen lighting, reflections and shadows, 720p, better draw distance than current gen.

#230476 Miyamoto hints at his new IP to be released in 2014

Posted by Penguin101 on 10 July 2013 - 07:25 AM

My hope is a first person game.

Let's face it. Shiggy has always wanted to do a first person game. Ocarina was originally in planning stages going to be a first person adventure game. He's already said he'd love to do a unique first person shooter game, but with a more unique gun (say the portal gun kind of unique).

So my hopes is a really unique first person game.

#229839 HELP! Official Sales Statistics

Posted by Penguin101 on 08 July 2013 - 05:45 AM

It looks like they are selling 25k per week. If you do the math, I think they are around 4m units sold. They are projected to be at 6m for the whole year.  Xbone and PS4 will have similar launch numbers as Wii U.....

I'm hoping, HOPING, that Wii U can reach 5 - 6 million by November 18th (one full year for the Wii U), and I hope they sell 3 million more+ between then and 18th January 2014. I'm sure that the combination of Wind Waker, Mario 3D World, DK Tropical Freeze, Batman: Arkham Origins, Watch_Dogs, COD: Ghosts will draw in enough gamers, plus I'm hoping that a lot of soccer moms will be buying a Wii U not only for their kids but for Wii Fit U (yes I know, booo) because even if it's a large majority buying Wii U this christmas for a casual game like Wii Fit U, it'll boost the install base enough for publishers to release 3rd party games on the Wii U, thus in turn attracting core gamers and growing the core install base.

But one can only dream. One thing they need to do is start advertising on public transport and TV. Parents aren't going to be watching Nintendo directs to know about the Wii U, They're going to need TV, newspapers, and public transport billboards. Words and phrases like "brand" "new" "console" are welcome.

#223506 Zelda U's artstyle

Posted by Penguin101 on 18 June 2013 - 11:32 AM

If it had a patched art style it would completely DESTROY emersion and that can't be done in a Zelda game, or it destroys gameplay and ruins the overall feel o the game.

A lot of people said that about Wind Waker, now nearly everyone loves it. If an entire world is consistent visually the immersion then works. Personally I'd far prefer the visuals style with Link in Smash Bros, however I'd certainly not knock the next Zelda game if it were in a crazy out there art style. I love the Zelda Battle Quest. It's level design is is imaginative and I can really imagine with some great, non gimmicky gameplay (such as keeping the gamepad gimmicks to a minimum), and I can imagine it being great. You could have a stop-go animation feel to it with some wildlife being made from origami etc.

Ideally though as I said I'd prefer the Skyward Sword HD, or Pixar artstyle, or the artstyle that those people did with the fake Majora's Mask HD video. That blew my mind.

In fact screw it I'm holding out for THAT art-style

#222056 The Wii U should have been as powerful as the Xbox one.

Posted by Penguin101 on 14 June 2013 - 11:43 PM

The Wii U graphically is fine. I do wish that they had shoved in an extra CPU core, and more RAM for third party developers 4GB would have been nice. I think when third party games get impossible to port to because they wont fit on 1GB of RAM, Nintendo will need a new console. However seeing the games such as Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Wind Waker are all rendered natively at 1080p and 60FPS on the hardware they have, and at that kind of detail.

Just take a look at that screenshot from SSB for Wii U, that's one badass link, I'd compl;etely but Zelda U if Link looks like this, just amazing detail for a Smash Bros game!

#218048 If consoles were a film series

Posted by Penguin101 on 10 June 2013 - 12:42 AM

I think the best analogy is that consoles are film series that some may like and some may not. My choices (and reasons) are here. What are your choices?

Nintendo: Toy Story Trilogy

Why?:

- Designed for and enjoyed by all ages

- Multi-layered with deep writing for the adults, bright colours for the kids, and an all around fun experience for all

- Initiative for their times

- Visually looks great for the art style

- No matter how much you try and deny that Toy Story is cool, in then end Toy Story Rocks

Sony: Die Hard Anthology

- Started off with a solid knowledge of the art

- Defined the genre and the art in some ways

- Started off Awesome as F**k

- As technology got better, the films started to loose what was important about the original as they started competing with more flashy and spectacular competition.

- Core surface elements remain the same throughout (John McLaine killing bad guys) mean that fans of the original will keep on going to see sequels.

Microsoft: Michael Bay's Transformers films

- A mere shell of what the art was about in the first place

- Designed to be flashy and distracting, uses the technology, explosions, boobies and homeerotic teststorone fueled imargy to attract its audiance

- Watched mainly by adolescents who think explosions and boobs are what make film great, and watched by fans of the previous generation of Transformers fans who shed a tear at the same time as reassuring themselves that what Michael Bay has done to the series is "fine"

- Designed totally and utterly to get the customer to pay as much money as possible for something of little substance

- With each time the technology gets better the further away it comes from the roots of it being classed as an actually film.

------

As you can see each console is a film series that some people prefer over others and could be seen as equal to picking a film you want to watch at night

#210332 Resident Evil at E3?

Posted by Penguin101 on 23 May 2013 - 05:23 AM

I'd buy your RE2 remake. Especially the classic and modern camera switch is good. But seeing as how it is a short game, include RE3 too. They're both in the same city and time period anyway.

REmake is by far the best Resident Evil as far as tone and horror, however RE2 by far has the best-balanced storyline, and RE3 has the best game mechanics IMO :D

Give us RE2 with REmake's attention to detail, atmosphere, level expansion, script alterations, and gameplay upgrades, while adding options of being able to play the game three different ways (classic, RE4, hybrid) to get 3 different experiences and we have the best Resident Evil game of all time, RE2 is back on top! :D

Then give RE3 remake RE4 (beta's) camera (cross between C:VX and RE4) alongside a massively expanded storyline (seriously we spend a whole 30 seconds on September 27th, have no idea how Jill got where she was and then all of a sudden move to September 28th and she's with another survivor, AND we never get a Carlos scenario, I call BULLPLOP!) Then we'd have a good contender with RE2 as well xD
