#37088 Minecraft - Share your Creations!

Posted by Starrgrl24 on 18 October 2011 - 02:58 PM

Behold my previous creations. I'm sure some of you seen this picture. I was the one who made these at the Wii U minecraft server, when it was still in testing. :) I'm still proud of these and sad to see it gone, but I'll build another one once I get back to playing minecraft. :3

#36121 Starrgrl's Music Composition (Moar music added 3/14/2012 :3)

Hmm... much harder to pin these tunes to games this time around.
It's actually made me a little annoyed too. :P

Haha that I can understand. I wasn't thinking about video games when composing, especially the piano piece.

I recently had to finish a project this past Thursday for my advance applications of music technology. It's a fun class, but a lotta work. xD Anyways, this is my complete project. I had to sequence it in Sonar Home Studio 6 (yeah...music lab is out of date, but they're gonna update this summer...but I'll be gone by then), with a couple of vsts and Reason 6 rewire.

I only got 90/100 because let's just say that I had some mixing issues, such as panning and volume level. xD Basically minor details I was stupid enough to overlook because I had less than 5 hours of sleep the past few days.So yeah, I'll fix it after I have fun with my 3DS. lol Here it is anyways:

I do have a fascination with battle music. I blame Pokemon music for this. I just love the intense and emotional style. :P

I didn't compose anything new, but I do wanna share some old music I composed! Here they are:

This is my first battle theme music. Now THIS is a hard-rock style. xD I actually make decent use of the drum set. I just wanted to depict an intense battle scene. I hope I was able to accomplish that. I'm more than glad to hear other interpretation.

I ACTUALLY performed this music live at the composer's recital in my college recital hall. I would have loved to show the recording but I do not have it with me...soo just deal with the midi. xD I still like it though. This is my personal favorite. I should have edited out some parts since there was a part I had to do a short improv, so finale screwed me over. xD  I'll replace with a real recording someday and I'll be sure to post it. This song was soooo hard to play and I only had a week to memorize it. xD Trust me...sounds a lot better live.
I can't help but go into details on this particular music. It's supposed to depict a winter storm. Half-way through, that is when it gets calm....and it gets intense again. Toward then end...it calms down gradually. :)

I made this music for my intro to music technology class. I composed this in Sonar Home Studio, which is a really great program! I think I'm liking it better than Fl Studio. Anyways, here is the music. :)

I was trying to make a sappy modern romantic piano music, but it came out more holidayish instead. lol This is my attempt at trying to sound more "modern" like pop music. :P

#34114 Wii lawsuit and POSSIBLE Wii U lawsuit

Posted by Starrgrl24 on 30 September 2011 - 06:42 PM

Yep...this is just a way to get some money. I mean, I never even heard ThinkOptical's wavit remote. Sure, ThinkOptical does have the grounds for a lawsuit, but it is NOT affecting their business. The wavit remote is for professional presentation use, while the Wii Remote is just for video games. Two VASTLY difference purposes. Just by that, you can tell that ThinkOptical just want to get money from Nintendo.

Besides, there will always be some kind of conflict with "break-through technology." Nintendo already risked themselves for even coming up with the concept of a motion detecting remote. Who wanna bet that the concept of 3d without glasses will eventually get into problems? One common mistake that I see in industry is the race to be "original."

I'll just use this situation as an example. Nintendo developed the Wii remote in hopes to be original. ThinkOptical developed the "wavit remote" in hopes to be original as well. The problem? Well...BOTH companies came up with the same "original" idea. Unless there is proof that Nintendo STOLE information from ThinkOptical, I wouldn't believe that Nintendo is at fault for infringing copyright. In this world of capitalism, it doesn't matter who comes up with an idea first. It matters if you can copyright the idea first. Copyright does have its benefits, but it has some terrible flaws as well.

Nintendo can't avoid the lawsuit, even if they're really not at fault. I simply just hope that Nintendo have good lawyers. xD

I'll just dedicate this topic to my original music compositions. The first two I'm gonna post is really just me practicing different styles. I just have an image in my head and I compose whatever from it. :) I made these rather quickly so balance is gonna be an issue but oh well. Here are the music:

Posted Image

I was basically trying to copy the kirby music style (like kirby's dreamland series). xD Well...I came close. It was rather tricky composing the melody because I started off with the harmony, so it was very restricting. I still like it though. :)

I have an obsession with boss battle music because it's just so fun to compose! I was able to find a nice, catchy, yet short harmony. I abused the chromatic movements, but oh well. Chromatic scale ftw. xD

I do admit, my music are fairly short and even minimalist (well I tried to be like a minimalist). I like it that way. Best to keep things simple. :)

I have an idea. Let's drop this pony craze and start talking more on the Wii U? :P

#23695 Welcoming Committee - Now taking applications for new Guides!

Posted by Starrgrl24 on 23 August 2011 - 04:24 PM

MAKE ME A GUIDE BECAUSE I TOLD YOU TOO.

jking

Well, I have been to various forums such as YAF, YC, Yoshi Lore, Ninsheet, Kirby Rainbow Resort and many others that I forgot because I abandoned it fairly quickly. I do admit, I can sometime be one of those who register for a forum and never come back. It is not often I come across a forum where I get to see members who are active and generous to new members. That is what impressed me the most about this forum. This forum is home to many friendly and awesome members. It makes me regret not having been active here earlier. I have missed a lot.

Because I have came to admire this forum, I will be more than glad to continue to contribute to this forum and help the community to grow even more. It has always been my desire to help others and to make the world a better place. I may not have been active, but I have watched this forum grow since I first joined...only about 2 days after this forum was born. I am already proud of what the admin did in this forum, and has done an amazing job keeping this place live and active! I only want to make this forum even better. There is always room for improvements.

So thus, I would like to apply to be a guide. In being a guide, I am able to help the new members feel welcomed here, much like I did when I first became active. It will be an excellent opportunity to greet the new members and possibly make new friends as well. Each new member does have an opportunity to contribute more to this forum such as, being an artist, a musician, a programmer, an animator, etc. So, it's best to take advantage of every new member that comes and let them explore their talents. I'll be sure to help the new members with that! The idea of having guides is simply wonderful, and I just would like to take advantage in order to help this forum grow.

I am looking forward to being a part of the team. :)

#23404 Back to School

Posted by Starrgrl24 on 22 August 2011 - 02:31 PM

Wow, some of you have some pretty interesting classes for high school! When I was in high school we had...pretty much 4 unofficial tracks: fine arts (include music, drama and art), business, honors (the preps), and...well the non-preps. lol I was in the fine arts and honors. xD

Speech on AP Classes (yep)

Good luck to those taking AP classes. Those really are very intensive...but let me tell you something about AP classes: IT IS A WASTE OF TIME. The only thing AP classes are truly good for is making you look good in a college applications. THAT'S IT. Well yeah...people can argue that it'll help you be prepared. I disagree with that completely.  I have taken AP English 11 and 12 in hopes of improving my writing by challenging myself. Unfortunately...I didn't learn very much. That is because...AP classes are ONLY for those students who just want to get ahead. Basically...you already have to know the subject beforehand in order to do well in any AP classes or you gotta work your a** off.

Now, I don't want to discourage students from taking AP classes, but if you want college credit, go to a community college. It is EASIER and you will get real credits based on your work and not from a stupid test like the AP exam. Soo...please do not take AP classes because it'll "look good" on your college application. Take classes that is relevant to your major and interest. If your high school offers pre-AP classes...then go for it. :) (If you wanna be English major for example...then AP English will be relevant)

Even though I go to a community college, my college is just as intensive as a university. When I took English 101 (equivalent to AP English 11) the classes was A LOT easier. That is because, the teachers are more willing to help you out and you have a lot more resource such as tutors. The purpose of EN 101 is to improve your writing, not to get ahead. That is why EN 101 is a lot easier. :) They're really just trying to help and writing is indeed an important writing skill.

If you want to be an engineer/computer science/pre-med...any of those science fields, do take AP chemistry, physics and/or biology and be sure to be very prepared for those and be ready for the workload...because it's basically a requirement to get into an science department nowadays. xD (Plus it goes back to what I said about taking classes relevant to your interest.)

Well, I'm saying this because I'm sure some of you guys are taking AP classes or planning to. I just want to give you some advice based on first-hand experience. ;)

Good luck!

#20477 Bethesda to support Wii U if powerful enough

Posted by Starrgrl24 on 10 August 2011 - 06:27 PM

Unfortunately, by the time when ps3/xbox release their next generation console, I do expect those to be even more powerful than the wii U. :( Aaanyways, I do hope Bethesda support Wii U! Nintendo really need more excellent third party developers. Sure, Nintendo is great, but we do need variety once in a while and the possibility that Besthesda will be one is a great step. :D

#20100 Super Short 8 bit tune

Posted by Starrgrl24 on 09 August 2011 - 10:25 AM

I was attempting to make chiptune and this was the result. The rhythm of the melody was actually an accident I made on fl studio...buut I love it so much I kept it. xD  Even though this was composed on fl studio, I tried to make it as if I was working in 8 bits (like in NES and gameboy games 0= ) which means I gotta work with 3 or 4 "channels." I worked with three, which is the melody, bass, and percussion. It was pretty fun. :( Hope you enjoy it!
