#81772 General Wii U E3 2012 Discussion

Posted by Guest on 30 May 2012 - 02:44 AM

First of all, I have just returned to the Wii U Forums, so don't blame me for not having read all new posts you guys made in the last year. It's your fault for posting! D;

Jokes aside, let me put my inner fanboy on chains now...
...

Basically, what we want to know is:
 • How will the Wii U compare to PS360?
 • How will the Wii U compare to "Orbis" and "Durango"?

1. Well, not much to say about that. The Xbox 360 and the PS3 are old consoles. Even though they were good when they were released, they're old now. Really old. Ever heard of Moore's Law? Let me quote Wikipedia for that:
Moore's law is a rule of thumb in the history of computing hardware whereby the number of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years. The period often quoted as "18 months" is due to Intel executive David House' date=' who predicted that period for a doubling in chip performance (being a combination of the effect of more transistors and their being faster).[/quote']
What does this mean for us?
The capabilities of many digital electronic devices are strongly linked to Moore's law: processing speed' date=' memory capacity, sensors and even the number and size of pixels in digital cameras.[7] All of these are improving at (roughly) exponential rates as well (see Other formulations and similar laws).
Yeah, admittedly, the speed of development is currently slowing down, and won't be as fast anymore in the future. However, I think you see that there's no way Nintendo can end up with hardware less capable than the hardware PS360 use. Heck, if they really wanted to have a less capable console, it would probably cost a lot more than one with up-to-date specs, because it would be an antique, lol.

2. This one isn't as funny anymore :(
There are numerous reasons for that. Firstly, Moore's Law again. Their hardware would be better for the same price just because it's newer. Also, there are some other points, and I have another source for that. Specifically, NeoGAF. Most infos on there can be seen as rather valid, as the mods on NeoGAF ban anyone claiming stuff they can't prove, but I advise you to take it with a grain of salt nevertheless.

The information is hidden somewhere in their enormous Wii U speculation thread #6, and I'm not gonna try to find it. HERE's the link for those of you who're bored or have too much time.

So, that's what the apparent insiders on NeoGAF claim: The Xbox 720/"Durango" will most likely have the best specs, just like the first Xbox had, while the Wii U will either be the next generation's PS2 or Dreamcast. That's where the insiders don't agree; one says it's probably more like the PS2, while the other claims it's more like the Dreamcast, and the difference in graphics will be noticeable.

The reason for that seems to be Microsoft giving in to Epic's demands of better hardware. Sony, according to the guys who know too much than is good for them, or at least claim to do so, hasn't decided yet and as such the PS4/"Orbis" will most likely be in between the Wii U and the 720, leaning more towards the 720. So, the Wii U will probably be the weakest console yet again, but not nearly as weak as the Wii was compared to PS360.

Well, I'm not up-to-date to how up-to-date you guys are, lol, so I'll just comment on the UE4 as if you had never heard of it, alright? The point is, UE4 isn't about how powerful the systems are, but about what you can do with them, generally speaking. The Wii didn't get UE3 because it didn't have programmable shaders. Now, the Wii U's GPU is rather new (compared to the other consoles' GPUs), so it MIGHT work with UE4. We don't know yet. However, it's not about specs, so don't think the Wii U is gonna suck just because it doesn't support UE4, most devs will probably stick to UE3 for some years anyway.

Basically, the Wii U will almost inevitably be inferior to Sony's/MS' consoles, but we'll have a pretty nice time for the first few years of it's lifetime, and it probably won't be as bad as it was with the Wii anyway (concerning 3rd parties). Keep in mind that Nintendo aims for a 5 year cycle, whereas MS and Sony most likely want their consoles to be more future-proof. In this case, we might get a "Wii Us" or whatever 5 years after the Wii U, and this one would be superior to the competition yet again.

Oh, and BTW, auto save has to be a blessing of Hylia herself! I accidentally deleted everything instead of posting, but it didn't get lost! YAY!

2 new sigs. I'm gonna edit them more today. I changed some colors and proportions of the header cuz I like it better this way =P

Anyways, I'm gonna add some reflections and try to make a .gif.

EDIT1: Added 2 additional versions.

EDIT2: Yet again 2 new versions. This time with reflections!

EDIT3: Gif file added. Hope it works!

EDIT4: Just noticed that the signatures are much too big. Have fun resizing them! <_<

#6732 What Consoles do you have?

Posted by Guest on 15 June 2011 - 03:19 AM

Super Nintendo Entertainment System (sold)
Sega Master System (sold)
Nintendo 64
GameCube
Wii
Game Boy Pocket
Nintendo DS
Nintendo 3DS

Considering half of these consoles/handhelds are as old as or even older than I am, I guess you can say that I have a life. It's called video gaming.

#4394 Wii U Graphical Demo in case you missed it.

Posted by Guest on 08 June 2011 - 12:29 PM

Look at the attached pictures of the Spaceworld Zelda tech demo and Zelda: Twilight Princess. There's quite a big difference. If the new Zelda tech demo is already beyond PS360 level, a Nintendo IP at the end of WiiU's life cycle is going to look awesome.

#3859 Thread of Legends

Kurow from Okamiden also is pretty badass.
Well, if we're already talking about the Moon Tribe, I wonder whether (extreme spoiler ahead, don't read it if you didn't finish Okamiden yet)
Spoiler

Last but not least, I'm pretty sure that EVERYONE who played Okami(den) loves this guy here:

Issun from Okami

He wasn't really important in Okamiden, but he's one of the funniest characters in Okami by far. His comments are epic :P

#2667 Could Unreal Engine 3 run on the Wii 2?

Posted by Guest on 10 May 2011 - 06:29 AM

Uh... no.

If there was profit to be made by developing on the Wii, third parties would have taken advantage of that. The problem has been that the Wii, due to its inferior graphical capabilities, has driven away the type of gamers that would play a game like Call of Duty. No one wants to buy a game on the Wii that they can play on their Xbox 360 in HD. Third parties began to realize this over time, and have thus either stopped developing for the Wii altogether, or have released dumbed down versions that have not sold well.

Most multiplatform games are FPS, and if I ever wanted to play such a "hardcore" FPS, and the Wii version wouldn't be dumbed down, I would buy it for my Wii - because I can't stand dual analog controls.

Also, how can third parties complain about bad selling games if they dumb them down themselves?
I understand that developers like Capcom have every right in the world to complain about Okami selling bad, but most devs you're talking about already made dumbed down versions from the beginning. They didn't realize over time that they don't get revenue for their games, most of them didn't even try to make them good - or didn't make games for Wii at all.

This isn't due to the inferiority of the Wii compared to PS360, but only due to their laziness. Don't forget that there still are some devs who don't ignore the Wii. After all, games like Okami, Monster Hunter Tri, The Conduit, Red Steel 2 and Epic Mickey are some examples of good Wii-exclusive games that weren't made by Nintendo. These games might sell less than Crap Call of Duty, but they show that it's easily possible to make amazing games for the Wii.

#2521 Anime Discussion

Posted by Guest on 05 May 2011 - 07:47 AM

Heh, I don't watch cartoons, I'm totally into animes. Don't even know My Little Pony, but I know I can tell you at least 10 animes that are better. That's because animes are totally underrated in society, though I have to admit that the best animes are for adults - most of the animes made for kids are trash (Yes, AE) *cough* The-Pokemon-Anime-don't-know-it's-official-name and YuGi-OH! and this overrated DragonBall *cough*. Good animes are for example:

 • Wertville's beloved Fate/Stay Night (good fights and animation)
 • Macross Frontier (most epic space fights ever, but aside from that trash IMO)
 • Full Metal Alchemist (don't mistake it for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood; FMA has almost everything ranging from good story over good comedy to good (but rare) action)
 • Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (has nothing to do with aforementioned FMA; REALLY good comedy)
 • Code Geass (good action and amazing plot)
 • Death Note (entertaining on a very high intellectual level)
 • xxxHOLiC (very interesting anime about the supernatural)
 • Ghost Hunt (interesting anime about exorcising spirits; contains some horror)
 • Gintama (probably best comedy anime ever; contains some dirty and excrement jokes though)
 • Darker Than Black (first season! The second season and the OVA contain lots of romance; DTB has really good action, but you'll also see a lot of blood if I remember correctly)

Looks like a nice list :P. If you have questions about a specific anime, ask me. And don't forget to buy any watched anime once licensed to support the drawers - after you've got your Wii 2, of course :D
