#149981 Wii U Pro Controller disapointment, needs a fix!

Posted by Hank Hill on 20 December 2012 - 09:39 AM

Just picked one up, and apparently I can't use it. It's not compatible with most games,

Call of Duty: Black Ops, Darksiders 2, Assassin's Creed 3, I could go on.

including Super Mario Bros and Nintendo Land. What a Joke.

Mario Bros I can slightly understand, but why Nintendo Land? That game is specifically designed to be played with the GamePad and Wiimotes.

If Nintendo is making games strictly to be used with the gamepad then... .well im just at a loss for words. Its stupid to say the least.

So wait, it's stupid that Nintendo is making games that utilize the controller that comes standard with every Wii U sold? Yeah, I guess that is pretty stupid. /endsarcasm

We need to start a petition or something so Nintendo can patch the problem asap.
I never would of thought buying a standard controller wouldn't be compatible with any game.

A petition so you can use a standard controller to play games that were quite obviously not made with the standard controller in mind. Sounds legit.

Once again, the Pro Controller is compatible with quite a few Wii U games already, as listed above.

I disliked the wii due to motion controls being the main focus... for example, playing donkey kong and having to shake the controller to roll... motion controls take away precision and ruin games slightly for the "hardcore" type of player.

I actually liked motion controls a great deal. Certainly helped out with FPS-type games in terms of aiming.

As for motion controls taking away "precision" as you put it, Wii Sports Resort, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Red Steel 2 would all love to have a word with you. Plus, quite a few Wii games either used no motion controls or were compatible with a, as you put it, "standard" controller such as the Classic Controller Pro or GameCube controller.

:throws up at the mentioning of "hardcore" players:

I thought Niintendo was done with the gimmicks and were getting serious to compete with the xbox and ps3... what a disappointment.

Uh...right. So suddenly because a standard controller isn't compatible with games that in no way had the standard controller in mind when they were created, Nintendo is no longer serious about "competing with the Xbox and PS3."

I think that overall the Wii U is doing rather well. Its launch title offerings were plentiful and offered a little of something for everybody.

Now as for the people that are inevitably going to latch onto my back screaming "BUT WII U HAS NO BIOSHOCK INFINITE METAL GEAR RISING TOMB RAIDER BHWEREJAL:DJKASFJ" those games are already years in development, long before the Wii U dev kits were even sent out, and the Wii U doesn't have as large of an initial userbase as the PS360 so there's little to no point to spend the many millions of dollars it would take to port the system over to the Wii U as of this time.

So yeah. I'm not signing any petition, nor am I with you on this front. Your complaints are...well, rather ridiculous, to be frank.

#143069 Consumers deserve to know Wii U doesn't support compressed 5.1.

Posted by Joshua on 04 December 2012 - 04:26 AM

I can do this all day kid. Most of us have Wii U's and are enjoying regardless of whether it can support 5.1 compressed sound. You've already got the situation heard amongst the site, so much to the point where you are nothing more than an annoyance; we get the point!

And in case you haven't noticed, more pressing issues such as freezing/bricked consoles, GamePad problems etc. are freely being posted in this site; only that they are mentioning it in one topic.

I've never seen someone get so upset over audio of all things.

#123007 Nintendo Pushed Back 1st Party Titles For 3rd Party Titles

Posted by CUD on 31 October 2012 - 02:12 AM

i think its a good thing because in other platforms they released a buch of first party titles in a very short time and then you have to wait a LOT for the next nintendo title to come out, with this strategy they will have a constant flow of first party games every few months or so

No it's a good thing because it gives third-parties a chance to show their games off rather than Nintendo steal the limelight with their always popular first-party offerings.

#122666 AC 3 gets big patch day 1, massive number of bugs/crashes, no word about wii u

Posted by CUD on 30 October 2012 - 06:07 AM

Wow. I remember when games had to be finished first.

Or released with these glitches and no way to fix them. They had deadlines to meet so they released the game and then the patch, doesn't seem like a big problem to me.

#122213 My brief opinion/review on the Wii U

Posted by x-SourApple-x on 28 October 2012 - 12:33 PM

Had a little go on it yesterday at a convention.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the controller. It feels natural, it feels light, all the buttons are easy reach with your thumbs.

The console itself looks so great, in both colours. It's very long in the back, and the same size in width and height. It's probably a little bigger than an Xbox 360 laid flat, from left to right.

The graphics of the Wii U are absolutely crystal clear. The resolution is insane.

I also got a free keyring from Nintendo :D

I didn't bother getting any pictures, there was already so many pictures about on this forum. They were demoing (available games to actually play yourself) Pikmin 3, Zombi U, NintendoLand, New Super Mario Bros. U, and you could also try out other features like look up and down with the controller and all around side to side, like how you can in Zombi U.

I can tell you now, if you haven't preordered a Wii U, you are SOOOOO missing out. It's a beast!

#119787 Is the Wii U Really a Graphical Jump Over the PS3 & 360?

Posted by CUD on 21 October 2012 - 12:58 AM

Not as significant a jump as the PS2/Xbox to the PS3/360 but a considerable jump nonetheless; however how much of a graphical jump we see from this hardware is up to the developers.

#119690 Darksiders II Wii U Discussion

Posted by CUD on 20 October 2012 - 05:25 PM

I'm curious as to how many of you future Wii U owners are planning on buying Darksiders II, I have noticed a forum member with a Darksiders II signature but I haven't noticed any discussion regarding the game. I have the game on PC and I have to say it is quite a good game, great even, so I have a few questions regarding the Wii U version.

What differences will the Wii U version have? I heard something about additional content but is that just referring to the DLC that is available on other platforms being included in the Wii U version or is there exclusive content?

Other than map display what use does the gamepad have? Inventory management seems like a possibility.

Will this be a launch title?

If you plan on buying Darksiders II for the Wii U please say so and give your reasoning for not having purchased the game already.

EDIT: Upon reading this article (yes I realise it's almost a month old) it answered a number of my questions such as those regarding content and the gamepad's use:

Darksiders II on Wii U will offer multiple pieces of bonus content not featured on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC versions, including the recently-released Argul’s Tomb content with new dungeons and armor and the Death Rides Pack with three new side quests. Also included will be the Angel of Death and Shadow of Death packs with new legendary armor and weapon choices, plus the upgraded horse speed boost from the Deadly Despair Pack. Players will also have access to additional unique legendary weapon and armor sets from the moment they start the game.

Wii U will also allow players to instantly access inventory and ability menus via the GamePad’s screen, and players will have the choice of using the GamePad or the Wii U Pro controller to play. Darksiders II will also offer the option of using your TV to play, or the choice to entirely use the GamePad’s screen.
Vigil games said back in March that Darksiders II would allow players to access menus without pausing the game and called the Wii U version “an enhancement of the core game."
