#177897 Jonathan Blow: The Witness not on PS3/360/Wii U because of low specs

Posted by routerbad on 01 March 2013 - 10:08 AM

Wait, wait, wait, call me a slowpoke who doesn't read posts but isn't this the same guy saying it could http://wiiudaily.com...s4-exclusivity/

Funny that showed up after I tweeted him suggesting he should have taken a harder look at the Wii U, and that it was a shame because people who own that system would enjoy a novel game experience, even without explosions.

Sounds like John really had no clue what he was talking about and now has to backtrack on his comments.

#177884 Origin of your username

Posted by routerbad on 01 March 2013 - 09:25 AM

First my name was Mr.Saturn90 named after a character from my favorite RPG Earthbound. I later dropped the 90 from my name and became simply Mr.Saturn. Then I went emo and changed my name to FallenSaturn and now since everyone always called me Saturn my name is simply Saturn now.

Very interesting story RB. I like it.

You should see the plaque my platoon made for me when I left.  The title read "Corporal Routerbad" and the message was attached to the motherboard of a bad router, lol.

#177879 I think the PS4 specs are a lie

Posted by routerbad on 01 March 2013 - 09:16 AM

Its really not that powerful.

The i5 i got for my wife for like, $250 smokes the daylights out of it.

It's not a very powerful CPU at all, which is a given since it was meant to compete with Atom and prioritizes power gating over performance.

#177835 Really ! Still no zen pinball after 3 month's 3 month's wow

Posted by routerbad on 01 March 2013 - 07:00 AM

Anyone else find this stupid zen pinball gets released in europe and japan but delayed in the u.s now its been 3 months and they decided to launch bit trip garbage instead wow not impressed.

You should probably play Runner 2 before calling it garbage, it's far from that.

Nintendo don't dictate release schedules to developers.  Bit.Trip and Zen Studios are two different development teams and are not conspiring to keep you from playing pinball.

#177708 Two problems that need to be fixed

It's super slow for me too.  It literally took me 3 hours to download Runner 2 last night.  That game is less than a gig.  Defenders, what is your magic trick?  My 360 downloads 10 times faster.

I'm downloading it now, says 10 minutes.

#177629 Prototype of Final Version?

Posted by routerbad on 28 February 2013 - 02:59 PM

DEFINITELY the final version.  The prototype didn't have the contours on the back either.

#177611 PS4 social features available on WiiU?

Posted by routerbad on 28 February 2013 - 02:37 PM

I really hope we get video uploads for MiiVerse, I think after PS4 releases it's kind of needed.

The problem is how is it handling the background processing for video encoding?  It would have to be able to offload that to something.  Personally I think video upload is superfluous and will make it harder to find let's play videos on youtube.

I'd be more into a video file playing app or some sort of stream from pc app for video. Game record is nice to show off your skills but maybe a gimmic in the long run.

I would like to see a media streaming ability, so I can stream content from my PC, good call.

#177583 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by routerbad on 28 February 2013 - 01:35 PM

yes i have and they kept saying the zelda demo is 1080p thus validating my response!

and if what you tell me holds true what does that tell us about nintendos tech demo?

Its been posted on these forums as well, the differences for Zelda tech demos and the product that makes it onto the machine for which it was being demoed.

As was just said Nintendo always underpromises with their tech demos.  Gotta pay attention bud :P  Also, the whole point of the Zelda tech demo was to show off the lighting, and given that the demo was pulled off on prototype hardware that was being modified up until just before release, and the fact that even Nintendo didn't know how to code for it yet, I'd bet they'll have plenty of better things to show off now.

#177529 Reasons why this forum is imploding

Posted by routerbad on 28 February 2013 - 11:47 AM

I just joined today and this is one of the first threads I saw.

It is really discouraging to see that this thread even exists. I personally know very few people with a Wii U, so I came here hoping to find like-minded people who I could discuss Wii carp with. I tentatively join a community I know nothing about, and this is what I see. That does not make me want to become an active member.

The key to fostering any web community is growth. A community that doesn't change is a community that stagnates. A stagnant community is a community with nothing to talk about.

This is an important discussion to have; when you love a community you don't want it to 'implode', but having this carp on the front page is not a good way to welcome members, ergo not a good way to prevent implosion.

The simple fact that the members of this community are open and honest enough with each other to create and discuss the community itself within a thread like this should provide a little more of a positive outlook on the community as a whole.  If I made a thread like this at Neowin or any of the other forums that I used to frequent it would have been closed on the basis of QQ no mod wants to hear it, you would never see four or more pages of responses.  Here we have been able to bring our concerns to each other and discuss them openly is a good thing going forward.  I only joined a few months ago and this is actually, despite it being sort of a small community still, my favorite forum.  Sure the very nature of the site invites the occasional troll and there are a few members that are fanboys and others that are pessimists, but you start to figure other people on the site out a little and learn how to read their posts and it works out.

I'm sorry this thread gave you a bad first impression of the site or the community but I hope you can take it on the positive side and recognize that pretty much every active member of this community wants the site to grow, thrive, and be better than it is today, and there is definitely something to be said about that.

EDIT:  BTW sorry for saying community so much lol..... community, ok I'm done.

#177517 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by routerbad on 28 February 2013 - 11:14 AM

Actually, the wii u can do far better than the 1080p Zelda demo. And the final hardware is a good bit more powerful than the e3 2011 prototype hardware. And even the early hardware was capable of more as Epic had mentioned.

Nintendo doesn't bait and switch like Sony does. In fact, they usually under promise and over deliver.

This.  Nintendo make sure to point out in 2011 "This is not the final hardware, these are only interactive demonstrations of the prototype hardware, and not actual game footage".  Sony, on the other hand...

#177500 New Xbox also going with second hand games unlock code.

Posted by routerbad on 28 February 2013 - 10:18 AM

It's funny he mentions in the article that he sees the next generation after this being all digital, but he's forgetting the 10,000 lb gorilla in the room.  That only happens if these tactics are successful.  If they end up costing sales (which it will do at least to a small portion) they may abandon the tactic.  Also, if they keep releasing digital versions for the same prices as physical media they are going to see some reachback that may hurt them with their customers.

#177475 PS4 launch=Wii U price cut?

Posted by routerbad on 28 February 2013 - 09:24 AM

I see a good bundle maybe for the holiday season. But they don't need to lower the price. They just need that surprise Retro game, that Mario, that Wind Waker and that X game to come out this year. Units sold.

And the good bundle I see? Wind Waker built in, with a larger storage option, for 379.99.

Yet another good idea, we need to get in touch with Reggie, have him hire us on a marketing consultants.

#177319 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by routerbad on 27 February 2013 - 07:04 PM

This just tells me the power gap will be much closer than Wii---->PS3/360. Both look great.

Its also worth pointing out that the Zelda Demo gif there is an off screen shot taken with a cell phone camera.

#177108 Wii-U games I can't wait for!

Posted by routerbad on 27 February 2013 - 12:22 PM

Personally, I like the simplicity of the Mii's.  I also really like the Miiverse community.  I like how it's integrated into the games, I like how there are different communities for everything, and most importantly, I like how it's not a bunch of 5 year olds calling each other naughty words because they're so B.A. on the internet.  I agree that the Mii's could look better, and more outfit options would be nice, but there's nothing really wrong with Miiverse in my opinion

Yeah I forgot to touch on that, MiiVerse is great because I don't have to worry about anything.  There is always great artwork popping up which is awesome, and I've gotten lost on Wara Wara Plaza just clicking around to different Miis to check out artwork, wishing I could pull some of that off, lol.

I've posted pictures of gameplay where I was curious about something and received nearly instant responses with help and information.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with MiiVerse, and anyone who has actually used it would tell you that, but the OP was obviously more interested in jumping to conclusions without any prior knowledge on the subject, and went with the most tired and irrelevant stereotype he could come up with to bash it.  Maybe because he felt a deep rooted need to point out that he isn't a kid?  I only say that because the post in and of itself speaks otherwise.
