#224029 Ubisoft: Rayman went multiplatform as they didn’t think it would sell on Wii U

Posted by Distractionwolf on 19 June 2013 - 08:25 AM

Its hilarious to me. I love it, because I got a 3DS very soon after it released too and did this same exact thing - joined a forum to talk about it. And it was filled with so much of this same "R.I.P" stuff. There were people, I won't say trolls because I think that's an idiotic term though I'll admit I'm not sure why else they stuck around, who literally did nothing in that forum but go to every single thread and point out why every single post signaled the death of that console. Sometimes it was a legitimate unfortunate blow, like when Mega Man Legends got canceled, that they chose to blow way out of proportion. Other times it was something like this, news that had nothing to do with the success or failure of the console and they would find a way to make it fit anyhow. I wonder if those people are still around on that forum now that the 3DS is light years from a failure.

Someone should make this a sticky, no they should make it the banner of the whole website. Its a Nintendo console. Its not going to have 50 variations of God of War and 300 clones of call of duty. Some games will be multiplatform, but unlike Xbox and PlayStation, it won't be 90% of the library because Nintendo puts original content, both first and third party, on their machines. That is why people buy them. People who don't like games that are different will generally buy other consoles. And that is ok. But this is a Nintendo console, and no one title makes or breaks us.

Guys, we don't even have shovelware yet. We don't. Don't even bother posting something you think is shovelware cause its not. Go to Wikipedia and type in list of DS or list of Wii games before you do. The wii u doesn't really have, to my knowledge, ANY truly bad games. We have several that no one else can get and we have a few ports. Our install base is low, ready for this? On purpose. No one is really expecting massive sales just yet, this is something that Nintendo has actually been doing for a while. Every time they do it people who care about games enough to come to forums do tend to freak out. But in the end it turns out to all be for not.

With all respect the reason for this reply is to say - its fine. Trust me. I'm going to be mocked cause, you know, the internet... But I've been a gamer sense 1988 and I was almost as interested in the industry as I was the games themselves sense I was six. Hold my hand. Shhhh. Its going to be ok. *strokes hair gently*

#224757 Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014

Posted by NintendoReport on 20 June 2013 - 04:33 PM

I am going to get it. The reason it wasn't in the e3 direct is because it was announced a bit earlier in another direct. They had a jammed packed e3 direct so this probably will get more news in the coming months.

It looks brilliant, there are some high def screens I looked at in a promo for the game and everything is colorful and the character models are spot on.

That gameplay is rocking, the one guy mentions it's mario kart esque.. in the sense that you have the item boxes which changes from skis, bobsled, snow board etc.. COOL!

#225370 Miyamoto: Nintendo Looking To Increase Internal Staff To Create More Projects

Posted by lucario23 on 22 June 2013 - 03:43 PM

I know right? I couldn't find my post until now lol

That's a horrible idea. Nintendo should not spend resources to help port games. They should, however, do what you said but instead of helping making ports they should help them make exclusives for Wii U. That would help Nintendo more.

Nintendo is KING of exclusives. THats how they are still alive. They need like one or two more mature ones to compete with halo and god of war, but other than that they need to be getting the third party games with a reason for people to buy them on Wii u. With Nintendo's help they could make exclusive dlc content etc for many third party games ( Nintendo character dog tags in battlefield 4, a bounty hunter mode pitting the hunters from metroid against the hunters of Star Wars ( Boba Fett, IG-88, new hunters introduced in the new movies and the clone wars?) in a Wii u version of battlefront, etc). Basically taking a Nintendo themed page out of Microsoft's book and giving people a reason to buy their version of third party.

#224599 I think Bias is the reason for the Wii U's lack of third-party support

Posted by EvilMoogle on 20 June 2013 - 11:04 AM

Why would 3rd parties develop for a console that simply isn't selling? Put yourself in the developer's shoes for just one minute and stop with the insane conspiracies.

This fear of a console not selling at launch is exactly why Microsoft did a complete reversal of their Xbox One's policies for used games, DRM, and always online. Developers and consumers were already running to Sony because of all the doom and gloom surrounding the Xbox One.

In this day and age you cannot have afford to have a poor launch. Nintendo messed up, seriously people this is coming from the words of the CEO himself.

http://www.nbcnews.c...ales-6C10378098

Poor marketing, poor name choice, lack of games at launch, and I think the Basic was a terrible idea and should have never been made to begin with.

With all of this said, I still bought a Wii U just to play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Once games like Sonic, X, DK, Mario 3D World, Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, Pikman 3, Bayonetta 2 come out we should see more Wii U sales assuming these games are actually really good.

We still have games like Watchdogs, Assassins Creed: Black Flag, and Splinter Cell Blacklist coming to the Wii U which is a clear sign that at least the Wii U can run some great-looking games.

tl;dr This is a Nintendo problem, and it is Nintendo's fault alone. They have nobody but themselves to blame for the lack of 3rd party support and poor sales. And last time I checked Activision's Black Ops 2 is on the Wii U and EA would like to return to the Wii U.

#224974 Nintendo: Third Party Support a (Secondary) Priority

Posted by Distractionwolf on 21 June 2013 - 07:49 AM

I'm going to get a good scolding for this one I know it, and I know who will do it too, lol, as I've seen the its Nintendo's job to advertise their stuff (despite the fact that we live in the age of social networking) and this is in a similar veign. If you want to see third party software of high quality come to the console you spent all this money on do two things:

1. Invite your friends over to play wii u. Play multiplayer games but also throw a single player campaign focused title their way and let them play. Get them interested in the console.

2. This is way more important. Buy games new. *shields face with forearms* Buy them new and avoid the used rack and help stack those sales numbers for the publisher, not for gamestop.

I will say though, as much as I love the wii u I have almost no complaints except for this one: I have a collectors bug in me and collecting for the wii U is absolutely dismal and pointless. Almost never a paperback game manual, the clamshell casses feel cheap and bend in the middle, the artwork is ok but there is not a whole lot of incentive to own physical copies of the game outside of not having to take up download space. Hopefully some really good special editions will come out with little nicnacks and such but right now its ehh

#224945 IGN: if you only buy a WiiU "you're an ass____"

Posted by Kokirii on 21 June 2013 - 06:27 AM

To be fair his comment was "your an A**hole , your missing out on alot of great games" then right after it "It's the same thing if you dont own a nintendo as your missing out on great games"  So I think he was just saying as wiiu has little third party support buy 2 e.g i'll get ps4 too. That way you can say you do experience the best games.

I see no problem with it as he said it's the same if DONT own one.

Then his comment isn't offensive in its stance towards Nintendo but in its stance on video games as being some kind of crack.  I've seen the same sentiment expressed on this site - people saying they have to have multiple consoles so they don't "miss out" on "experiences."  In fact, folks, you can still have a very fun and productive life if you never play this generation's PS3 exclusives!  I promise!

#222577 Does Nintendo need to release a new original game series?

Posted by Distractionwolf on 16 June 2013 - 03:51 AM

Well I think they need two things. They need an original new IP like you guys said, although a smash bros. like rpg is the complete polar opposite of what I'm thinking. Slamming a bunch of already existing characters into a new game style isn't what I want and Mario has been in several rpgs (Mario RPG for SNES, Mario and Luigi Superstar series, most of the paper Mario series). They need to approach a fresh genre, be it in game style or literary. I always kind of liked how Metroid was there scifi as Link was there fantasy. An FPS wouldn't be bad although I'd be equally happy with reviving Metroid Prime's play style there, or just an action-adventure game form a third person perspective as long as it was solidly made (those tend to be really hit or miss with me).

But Nintendo also needs to take better advantage of some of the IPs it already has. Kid Icarus Uprising was a good start despite the weird control scheme but I fear they will just halt right there. Can we get an actual starfox game? Just a straight up, no nonsense Starfox shooter as good as starfox 64 but not a port of it? I liked Adventure personally but I don't need a Zelda clone when I have Zelda. I didn't play Assault but from what I understand it was far from what we wanted out of starfox. We never got a starfox on the wii and that's unacceptable. With the wii u controller though we could do really cool things with that gameplay style.

Also isn't Fire Emblem a Nintendo IP? I guess its what you'd call 2nd party?

#221306 Final thoughts, reactions and raitings on E3 2013 for the big 3?

Posted by Zinix on 13 June 2013 - 03:16 PM

Sony overall had the best conference. No doubt about it. The PS4 is definitely an excellent console, and I can't wait till it launches. They showed games, have a great pricetag, and overall have much powerful hardware for cheaper. I'll definitely be picking up the PS4 at launch. Nintendo of course will come in second. They really didn't shock me or surprise me, but I gotta say, I didn't expect Retro to be developing another Donkey Kong game. At first I was upset, but after viewing footage, it looks as good as their first game. It's humorous that people were complaining about the lack of a traditional Donkey Kong game, they get it and complain. Metroid don't get me wrong is an excellent series, but it deserved a break after Other M. Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2, Wind Waker, and X all look great in the graphics department, and Pokemon X & Y might top gen 4 as my favorite gen. Nintendo overall had a good press conference, but was a tad disappointing. Where to start with Microsoft? Well, it was just abysmal. Audio issues, games not loading, the 500 dollar price tag, etc. Not to mention the whole used game issues (which Sony pwnt Microsoft in a ad and on stage), it was just a bad experience. Will the Xbox One be worth owning? Perhaps in the future, Killer Instinct caught my eye, but the shady P2P in a fighting game killed any interest for me.  Microsoft's conference was definitely on par with Sony's 2006 conference and Nintendo's 2008 conference, just pure trash.

I'll be going PSU and PC this gen.

#220258 Nintendo "Feels Good" About How It Stacks Up Against Sony And Microsoft

Posted by BanjoKazooie on 12 June 2013 - 08:42 AM

I would buy a wii u for Donkey kong if I didn't already have one, and I loved 3Dland, so I'm excited about 3Dworld too! I was expecting more on the graphical side of E3, but once I got over that, last night, I'm now pumped for this awesome year in Ninty gaming!

#221279 Final thoughts, reactions and raitings on E3 2013 for the big 3?

Posted by Julio93 on 13 June 2013 - 02:47 PM

Since E3 wrapped up the game announcements while game sites are covering all available game demos. I wanted you and I to share thoughts, reactions  and ratings on the big 3.

Microsoft E3 Press Conference -......Meh....

Positive - Killer Instinct

Negative - The console, Microsoft's actions before and after the conference

They showed off Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Phantom Pain looks gorgeous and I can't wait to play it for hours and hours...On my Ps3. Sunset Overdrive looked really looked promising, it kinda reminds me of another game that had that maybe Team Fortress 2 but will more wacky cartoons, but its a nice touch. Ryse: Son of Rome has impressive visuals, but the gameplay looks boring, looks like a heavy influence on QTEs. Dead Rising 3 I still am not convinced, looked so much like Walking Dead with no funny gimmicks like the first or second one, just guns and cars. But the airstrike was pretty sweet so I'll have to wait and see more. What really killed it for me was they showed yet another Halo. Are you kidding me? Didn't Halo 4 came out like fall of last year? and Battlefield 4's embarrassing gameplay reveal, I laughed so hard about it. Finally the thing that I really liked through the whole conference, was Killer Instinct.....Until the next day they said its a free game with only having Jago being the only character available so you have to buy characters, stages, everything, Micro transactions on a fighting game......... So every KI fan will be buying a incomplete game. Thanks alot for destroying another Rare classic franchise, first Banjo Kazooie, now Killer Instinct.

Let me say this, I know the ones that are reading this that are a die hard Xbox fans, but you have to understand. EVERYONE. HATES. THE XBOX ONE. Everywhere you go in the internet and real life nothing positive, just rants about the Xbox One and memes about the xbox one. I said before I had faith in Microsoft when they announced the reveal event, what was my reaction I keep expressing about Microsoft, Disappointment, I gave them a chance but they blew it up and made it even worse at E3. You expect me to be all happy about the Xbox One knowing their bull policy's are still around because it hurts your feelings that I'm bashing your favorite company? Angry Joe is the best example for long time Xbox gamer reacting to the Xbox one, he's been with the Xbox since the first Xbox and the 360 the whole 2 generation including PC, now he made 2 rant videos, and on top of that, how are you still defending this company even after all this stupid things they did before and after E3. Damage controlling on Redict or whatever that site is called, making fun of their own fans about backwards compatibility and get a 360 if you don't have better internet, blocking comments in their own channel. They deserve all this negative attention because their image now, its not likable or trust worthy, you don't own Xbox one games, your friend is only allowed to borrow once, you have to check in 24 hours or you're boned. Everything it has is not a good thing to own a Xbox one if they can manage to sneak in something good. Wii U owners are being mocked every bad Wii U news week after week yet bashing Microsoft's console I'm the bad guy.

Sony E3 Press conference - Surprised me.

Positive - Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV, price, all features.

Negative - Still lack of PSVita games, first half focused on TV services, most new IPs are you wielding a gun.

They opened up the conference with the Vita, I was hopping they will show some love for the Vita........Turns out they did not such thing, no price drop, no original exclusive games.....Guess I have an opportunity to troll the thing even harder now. They showed boring stuff like video unlimited, I kept thinking in my head "Oh god please Sony don't be like Microsoft's conference in May!" I wanted to go to sleep after they kept going but then they finally showed some games, they looked very amazing, the 18th century game looked pretty good, looks like a survival horror 4 player co op adventure, infamous was AMAZING! I loved the first and 2nd game and I can't wait to play the 3rd one. Then they showed some indie games, which the whole '40 games shown at E3' kicked in and I really appreciated it, I loved the indie games now and seeing that more are coming from these amazing lesser known companies is a welcome edition to PS4 especially the devs behind Scott Pilgrim VS The World. But then. SOMETHING HUGE CAME IN! Square Enix has redeemed themselves! Final Fantasy Versus XIII now called FFXV and Kingdom Hearts III reveal! I got so exited I couldn't even sit down, but then the next day I heard its not exclusive, so that bummed me out I think only on Ps4 would be more epic. I still was very exited that its coming though. Then the biggest troll move Ive ever seen in a conference, Sony just destroyed Microsoft by saying everything that the Xbox one is having, will not be effected on Ps4, everybody in the room was cheering, I was shocked, laughing and happy with joy that PS4 will not be the same as the Xbone. The Price got even better, a more powerful console is more affordable. Then laughed even more with sony;s video about "This is how you share your games with Ps4"

B+

Nintendo Direct E3 - Really amazed me on their graphical power.

Positive - Smash Bros, X, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8.

Negative - Still lack of 3rd party, laggy direct, Retro's long awaited disappointment.

The direct was really laggy because of the amount of people watching at once, but I was able to understand what they are showing. They started off with Pokemon X & Y which i was like whatever since there's like leaks every single day here. When I saw Super Mario 3D world I was like "Oh god damn it its a port of the 3DS version." But when the trailer kept going, i didn't remember 3D land having all these other things like a complete snow level, besides, 4 PLAYER 3D Mario Co op! Less chaotic than having a 4 player side scroll-er. The next is Mario Kart 8, first glance, holy hell, that game's graphics were so much like eye candy the whole way, it looked gorgeous on the trailer and even off screen, knowing that Iwatta said the online will be the best and more tweaked than any other Nintendo game just hyped it up even more, Mario Kart 7's online was fantastic so was the Wii one. Also adding in that zero gravity gimmick was pretty sweet! Can't wait until they reveal more since they have a year. The stinker for me had to be DK Country 2, do we really want another DK Country 2D side scroll-er since we had it 3 years ago on Wii, and re released on the 3DS last month? It really disappointed me so much that this is what Retro has been working on for 2 years. However, things got even bigger and better. Bayonetta 2 is looking way more fun than any other hack & slash, way better than DMC and the previous Bayonetta. Then they showed an amazing trailer from X. X is beginning to be the most amazing game Ive ever seen from Nintendo, its setting the hype so high right now. Looks so much like Ps4 quality its so unbelievable that its running on the Wii U. And Finally, the biggest one of all that everyone was waiting for, Super Smash Bros. While it was ending, they flashed a warning sign, and I saw someone in a cliff thinking this person is like a servant of Master Hand, it stopped but the audio kept playing and I got frustrated on the stream server not playing, then I heard a noise sounding retro, I was thinking "Oh god no, its gotta be Pac-Man, damn it Namco!" But then the video started playing again, it showed me the eyes of the new character and that memorable battle jingle, My jaw dropped to the floor. Mega Man is finally back after all these years as a playable character in Smash Bros. Seeing him in the game. They nailed it. He is just like his 8bit self but in a 3D environment, unlike the Megaman Powered up game were he didn't imitate his 8bit actions.

B+

Overall: Sony & Nintendo both were on top, I couldn't choose who won because both had flaws and had amazing games that made me a kid again. so I nominate both. Thank you Sony for not having the same flaws as the XBone that everyone was predicting to be true and thank you Nintendo for not being as boring as the last E3 conference, but please come back making a conference again next E3. I missed out on thousands of people cheering on Mega Man's debut in Smash.

#221002 Over 1,000 Parties Interested in Developing for Wii U

Posted by DéliopT on 13 June 2013 - 07:11 AM

1000 is just, wow.

eShop is going to be flooded with them! Maybe there are really good projects there that could fill some spaces like racing, adventure, shooters, RPGs. Games Wii U seriously lacks.

If i were Nintendo i would really consider a different business model: publish some like a collection; pair them with VC games both online and retail; make some part of Wii U - as a bónus; pair them with Nintendo`s own games.

I still think lots of people are not aware of VC and Indie games or are not sure about investing their money on them.

#220248 I think Nintendo did a pretty great job at E3 but...

Posted by MorbidGod on 12 June 2013 - 08:29 AM

See, what I believe is with the wii, a lot of non Nintendo bought the system. They were moms, dads, uncles and aunts. Families in other words. they bought it for the casual have fun experience. Wii fit, wii sports, etc. Now that Nintendo seems to be focusing (seems...) on "core" gamers, they've lost that family group a little. The problem is now they're left with real Nintendo fans who love Nintendo games. I wonder if a new Metroid or Starfox would really bring that many gamers from other systems over. If you're a huge fan of metriod or starfox, wouldn't you already have a Wii U? It seems that people that like those games also like other Nintendo games.

That's a good point. I knew Nintendo would have a hard time getting the casuals to buy another console. But they don't need that. They need to get the 30m+ people who bought a 3DS to buy a Wii U. They need the 5m+ Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii) to buy a Wii U. They need the 8m+ people who bought Mario 3D Land to buy Mario 3D World (and Wii U). That's what they need. Metroid didn't sell over 2 million units. Unfortunately, it wasn't the right choice.
