Everyone complains about the Xbone because it does more stuff besides gaming.

Can't help but feel sensationalised information when I hear about people cancelling pre-orders for the Xbox One simply because 500GB isn't big enough.

I mean, 500GB

Seriously.

It's not big enough?

How big is your gaming vajayjay?

#253782 Nintendo Sales Report Q2 2013

Posted by lucario23 on 30 October 2013 - 09:24 AM

While this is all true, Look at those dates. The physical copy of Windwaker HD didn't launch until a week atfter this range ended. Which means that the Zelda bundle was only out for 6 days! yeah, it's not gonna sell millions of units in 6 days. I'll be more interested in between now and Christmas. I think we will have the potential for around 7 million sold by the end of the year with Zelda being in the complete equation and Super Mario 3D World, along with everything third party. A lot of my friends here at college have only really started considering it since around the end of September with Zelda and pokemon they were very nintendo focused. I say wait and see a little while longer.

But yeah, marketing the hell out of the console would be a good idea nonetheless.

#253623 Bought a Xbox 360 console. Realized how much superior it is in many ways

Posted by TheDoctor_13 on 29 October 2013 - 04:04 PM

Eh I know the xbox has a lot of stuff, but I never seem to use any of it. The friends online and ect always seemed more of a annoyance to me. (not very social). But we still get better games, and less confusing ui.

#253660 My thoughts on Sonic Lost World

Posted by Guy Fieri on 29 October 2013 - 06:17 PM

I don't think it's horrible, but not amazing. I'll just list off some stuff I didn't like, since there's still more good than bad.

- Momentum is screwy, jumping kills your momentum. But I've gotten used to it.

- There's been some times (not too much to say it's game ruining), but running is also the button to run up walls. So sometimes you might run up a wall by accident while running.

- Bosses are way too easy, some can even be beaten in seconds.

That's about it really, I'm still enjoying the game. It can actually can difficult in some spots, and the cutscenes are fun. Getting S ranks can be a challenge, they require you to sniff out the best short cuts. Overall, I think it's a good game. Not as good as Generations (haven't played the Wii version of Colors so I can't compare to that)., but it's not mediocre like the reviews are claiming.

#252532 Project Cars Wii U Features Particle Shadows - Multi Threaded Shadowing

Posted by Hannes Wetterauer on 21 October 2013 - 02:57 PM

Hey guys, just registered to hopefully be able to give you some info about the Wii U version as I'm involved as an pre-alpha tester, investor and community member at pCARS since over a year now.

I'm guessing that they are far from pushing the max the CPU do to it not auto-delegating tasks, which is good. The games on the Wii U are already showing higher performance than their last gen counterparts, so the results that devs can get from further optimizations are starting to look promising.

I was initially expecting Project CARS to just be another unoptimized port. I'm keeping my eyes peeled now.

The Wii U surely got more CPU power than I've expected but in the current state the game's able to make i5 processors sweat. Above all this is due to ongoing physics (especially tyre) testing but in the end I guess at least slight compromises have to be made when it comes to physics calculations on the Wii U. Not because of poor porting (as far as I've seen the devs are working really hard on the Wii U version since a while now, the engine is smoothly scalable and Nintendo seems to do their part on supporting us very well too) but because of the lack of sheer processing power. On the other hand optimizations haven't been really started yet...

It would be nice if true. There was one photo released of the Wii U version months ago by an insider. It did not look pretty. Of course, they have clearly made substantial imporvements since then according to the changelogs.

Would be nice if they would show some console version footage.

I don't know that screenshot/photo for myself even if I'm totally active in the community there - sure it was real?

There is a line in th is that has me confused.

Can anyone make head's or tales of this?

Adding to the earlier explanations the mothership was a related bug looking like an Independence Day mothership, basically a big black thing occuring on specific date/time/weather settings like a huge shadow ;)

I'm just ready to see some specific Wii U vids and screens for this game.  The developers seem to be very willing to support the Wii U and make this game the "Forza" of the system.  It looks great so far, but I want to see some specific Wii U stuff.  If it ends up being as good as it sounds, I'll definitely get it next year.  I just hope a lot more people get it as well.  It could really be one of the big titles for the system in the near future.

They ARE very willing to make the Wii U version as awesome as possible as there's no real competition, pCARS could become THE racing game on the platform and console gamers (aswell as PC gamers when it comes to certain games) are maily pissed off because of poor ports! As far as I know you'll have to wait some more time until we got proper ingame footage specifically for the Wii U version tho.

Regards

#251968 Sonic Lost Worlds Review Roundup

Posted by Waller on 18 October 2013 - 10:21 AM

Oh, so IGN criticizes the level design as being bad... because it's not a straight path?

Nothing to see here, just more game journlolism. Try the game out yourself before deciding it's bad.

I read professional reviews because I don't have enough money to buy a bunch of games hoping that they're good

In previous Sonic games did collecting 100 rings give you a 1-up?

Professional reviews are pretty much worthless as they don't actually review the games. Look into some reviews from unknown bloggers if you want some real reviews.

No, you just collected as many as you could to increase your score at the end of the level. Getting hit reduced your ring count to 0.

hmm... I really wish game reviews werent so worthless. Ill put the game mechanics through their paces with the demo, and if they are solid and consistant, ill just chalk it up to another case of reviewers being worthless incompetents.

#250777 Nice article in Forbes on Wii U. Five reasons to buy.....

Posted by Azure-Edge on 10 October 2013 - 08:22 AM

I went back and read many of the comments and reviews after launch, and most were very positive....  It seems to me that the main issue came during and after the drought of games, then people really piled on after the  PS4, XBone announcements- and release of sales figures.

But it is sad that articles like this are so far and few between.....

It's really not that surprising. People have forgotten what a launch is. Actually it'd be more accurate to say that those who even CAN remember what a launch is like have forgotten and there a LOT of gamers who never seen a launch before. No seriously, think about how long these systems have been out. The 360 came out in like 2005(I'm pretty sure), that was 8 years ago. So essentially it could be argued that any gamer from kids in to the mid-teens give or take have really never seen a launch. The last systems launched when they were only like 5 or so at most.

Take that in to account, and take in the kind of hype that comes up for a launch, and it's not surprising that a lot of people would expect gigantic things out of a launch. Console launches are not really 'fun', they're just super hyped up and they're hyped up for what is coming in the future, not what is there from the start. The Wii U had a 'drought', so does every single console when it launches. Developers just aren't far enough along in the development process and there aren't as many games in production for the new systems when they come out.

I also think devs have forgotten what launches are like. They're all acting like the WIi U is a plague because it doesn't have a 50+ million install base. Once again, that's normal. No matter how good a system is, it takes time for them to grow an install base. And third party devs aren't doing themselves any favors by short changing the few games they are putting out for the Wii U. Right now they only people who logically have a Wii U are hardcore gamers, and they pay attention to when a dev is lazy. All these devs are doing is pissing off WIi U owners and showing that there is no point buying their games because they aren't going to put in the tlc that's expected anyways. The next gen consoles are going to have the exact same problem with the install base, possibly worse, and I can't wait to see how third parties react.

I think it's going to be really interesting next year to watch the PS4 and Xbone. These systems have been getting hyped up to extreme levels and there's no way they're going to meet that hype. I also think this is part of the reason why the adoption rate for the Wii U has been low. People are being smart consumers and waiting until all the next gen consoles are out before they start buying. I'm curious if the two new HD twins will get panned like how the Wii U has been when, after Christmas, their sales go down and their games are relegated to 'last-gen ports'. (I seriously doubt it :/)

I'm not going to lie to you guys I don't play online. I just haven't gotten into that mode yet. Like I said before I think it starts with Nintendo. They have to push online in THEIR games. I will try something like cod ghost but not a lot. I rather play single player or coop. I have wife and kids I don't have a lot of time to jump online and play against other players. I guess I'm part of the problem I just don't care for online.

#250315 I think you should read this

Posted by Alex Atkin UK on 07 October 2013 - 03:51 PM

There is a problem with people claiming "the most powerful console as NEVER won", the most powerful console in the past was ALWAYS the most complicated to write for.

The difference today is that the PS4 is actually the EASIEST console to write for, and the cheapest of the main two.  So the reasons the most powerful consoles in the past may not have been number one, no longer apply.

That said I still think Nintendo will be fine.  The Gamecube was considered a flop by the industry as a whole but Nintendo made profit on it.  The sheer fact even I bough the Wii U purely for the exclusives shows that the still have the pull for those who want those games.

Dude use paragraphs, that doesn't looks aesthetically appealing to look at. I read it all and yes I agree with you. Though no one can be for certain who will win the console war this generation...

(You gotta love it when people reply to long posts with one sentence or a picture as if it makes them look cool)

#249526 Nintendo Minute - Kit and Krysta Play Through Level of SM3D World

Posted by Kokirii on 03 October 2013 - 07:33 AM

Its so many things to do in the game its chaotic... plain and simple Nintendo makes FUN games and my wife and kids are going to get a LOT of gameplay out of this.

My thoughts exactly.  I showed my wife (who is not a gamer) the trailer and she thought it was awesome.  Then even the next day she told me she couldn't wait to play it with me, without me even mentioning it.  Big success in my mind!  I look forward to having it around to play as a family
