#215395 Why people say Wii U is "current gen", and why they're complete d...

I love my Wii U regardless but yeah, it's current gen as in PS360 was last gen, full stop.

While I agree with the sentiment here, I disagree that the Wii U is ahead of its time. So far, I love it and admire it for delivering a home console to people who mostly just want to play games and not worry about TV and other random stuff. But I'd be fooling myself if I thought that it was ahead of its time.

It does offer an interactive TV service, it just isn't touted as the main focus of the console.

Ok... how come PS4 & Xbox one  next Gen then ?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I still consider the Wii U part of the so-called 'next gen.' I just don't agree that it is ahead of its time. I guess I could say the same about the PS4 and One. There is always better technology out there and the console makers work with they have and what fits their development budgets. Some aspects of each console might be ahead of their time. For instance, the Wii's motion controls could be said to be in this category. Or The original Xbox's LIVE setup. I'm sure someone could think of other examples that will be agreed/disagreed upon.

#215050 Is the wii u THAT underpowered?

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 03 June 2013 - 08:18 AM

Jaguar is an x86 chip, meaning that it is generally the same architecture as the first x86-64 chips of 2006. Anything else would be incompatible with Windows and such unless Microsoft rewrote the os for that platform.

Espresso, while being based on the Power architecture, is under the full control of Nintendo which can tailor the chip to handle the exact workload that gaming requires. X86 on the other hand has to be more of a generic chip that handles anything from gaming to daemons/services to Microsoft Office, meaning that not all of it's processing abilities are directly usable for gaming.

Microsoft Office for Xbox One :P

Why can't you have both?

Have one will mean you'll just be missing out on exclusives, it's only logical that you have both for you can have your needs satisfied.

I've never been too fussed about the graphics; I always thought they were great! But that’s because I've largely stuck to playing it on my Wii which is hooked up to a nice old 30" SD TV.
I just don't want to have finished the game before I have skyward sword to move on to :L

I hadn’t really considered that, but That would be a great bonus use of that controller! :P

Yup =) I'd love to play Mario Kart or SSBB with it =P

The pro controller could emmulate a wii remote with a classic controller connected, but I think the emulation is hardware level and can't be easily changed.

It can be done, Atleast easier than the Wii U Gamepad thing

Guys remember, what I said: I didn't say that I want to use my gamepad as a controller to play Wii games. Just simply use it as a TV screen to play Wii games. So it'd still be in Wiimode and stuff. I'm pretty sure they can do that, can't they?

I guess I didn't mention that i think that idea is a bit silly. The screen is tiny and i would imagine it would be difficult to use wii remotes on it since it has such a small sensor. Maybe they could do it, but I dont want them to and i dont think they ever will.

I still haven't finished it, actually :-/  I'm a bit embarrassed to say so but, to be honest, those two issues were just too much for me (the blurry graphics more than the waggle - my eyes hurt when I play!!).

Ahaha no need to be embarrassed, I havn't completed it either! Right near the end of the game too :L had the game since launch of the Wii aswell.
But that's because I've been waiting to buy Skyward sword so I can just move on as soon as its done.

You guys need to power through the poor quality graphics and poor controls to get to the final boss. It's one of my favourite Zelda boss battles, especially the sword fight with ganondorf.

...

..

.

I was just doing a Zelda inspired twist on the popular Star Wars quote, "May the force be with you."
Link being the name of the players character in Zelda because he is the Link between the Game and the player. Which if you think about Zelda always being a quest for gaining the Triforce and saving the land/Princess etc, then Link would presumably carry alot of force with him.
I can see how it makes no sense with out any context but I just presumed people on a Nintendo themed gaming forum would get the link. Sorry for the pun.

But thanks for making me feel welcome!

I know who Link is. I'm pretty sure he has no Midi-chlorians therefore he can not possibly be in tune with the force.
