#269480 Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition PS3 vs PS4 graphics

That's quite a collection you've got there.

#269313 Wii U outselling P4 and X1!

Posted by SailtheSeas on 29 January 2014 - 11:22 AM

I'm sure it will help some.  Donkey Kong sold 9 million on the 3ds.  I think that Mario Kart, Smash will move systems, then collectively the titles that are out will make the system more compelling.

If you like platformers then I'd agree with you, where Nintendo could have really gotten some diversity is with games like Metroid, Fzero and Starfox, not with yet another platformer.

#269147 3DS sales over 15 million landmark in japan

Posted by SailtheSeas on 28 January 2014 - 03:47 PM

Yeah, it's like going to the Mazda forum and telling them you want them to bring back the disgraceful b-series.

The problem with Nintendo is that they've made errors which a company of their stature and experience shouldn't be making. It's as though they automatically expected the 155million people who bought a DS to jump straight to the 3DS when it launched and likewise with the Wii and the Wii U. They made an error with the 3DS and have rectified it and yet made the same mistake with the Wii U.

How any company can expect to release a home console with not a single AAA game and a very small marketing campaign to sell 9 million units is beyond my level of comprehension?

The fact remains that a majority of gamers don't want mandatory gimmicks, underpowered hardware or a lack of third party support which is why they're staying away from the Wii U.

Nintendo has shown it never did its market research in regards to the Wii U, it has shown it doesn't listen to what gamers want and it has shown that it simply cannot maintain a handheld system and a home console system at the same time.

It seems to me that Nintendo's main focus has been the 3DS with the Wii U taking the backburner.

Nintendo have cut their sales forecasts and will more than likely post another fiscal loss. It's time Nintendo got with the programme and started offering competitive hardware, new IP's and started getting must have exclusives on their consoles because a 3DS port, a Lego game and Zombie game aren't what appeals to a majority of gamers.

#268836 What could Nintendo do for the Wii U? (please no stupid ideas)

Posted by SailtheSeas on 27 January 2014 - 03:44 AM

So why cant nintendo do this on games like watch dogs or project cars or any other highly anticipated game

Because it requires payments from Nintendo and Iwata has always said he is not prepared to throw money at third party developers because in his opinion once that starts happening it never ends.

Make the tablet controller an optional accessory.

#268287 RUMOR: Wii U version of Watch Dogs cancelled.

I hope not as I was really looking forward to playing this game on my Wii U.

#268252 "Put [blank] on a real console" huh?

Posted by SailtheSeas on 23 January 2014 - 02:03 PM

I know all of my buddies that own consoles would never own a wii u. They would call it "for kids", and honestly, with the first party titles that come out, the commercials, ads, etc, can you really blame them? Is there something you've seen that just screams "Hey 20 to 30 year old gamers! check THIS out!!!!!"? Nintendo games are great, but the majority of gamers find realistic graphics, violence, mature (read real look people are the main characters, not cartoon characters) story, language, etc, more enticing than gameplay and only gameplay.

It's different strokes for different folks isn't it? I find the market is oversaturated with mature games and games like Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, WWHD, W101 and Rayman Legends are a refreshing change of pace.

Also Nintendo software is rare in the sense you don't have to worry about broken, buggy, glitchy games.

A lot of those people are misinformed, arrogant, and only follow IGN. Wii U has potential to really make a mark on the gaming industry this gen

Call me 'misinformed' and 'arrogant', but at this moment in time I cannot see the Wii U making any mark on the games industry this generation.

I know too many people that loved their 360 and bought a wii as their secondary system simply because Zelda came out as launch title and they waited with the ps3 because it had no games and the ones that did come on it ran way better on 360.

I hope that those people go out and buy a Wii U when Zelda U comes out.

#268235 Satoru Iwata: "I'm not going resign"

Posted by SailtheSeas on 23 January 2014 - 01:29 PM

I disagree with your comparison with the 3DS. In both cases, you are forced to pay for the future, in both cases you don't need to use it. I think it's pretty clear by now what both our opinions are. And I agree with you that they should be more innovative with their software though. They definitely should continue making Zelda games the way they do it, the combination of adventuring and puzzle solving is great. And they need to continue making the Mario and Metroid games in order to make money.

3D is not the future imo. Tablet controllers are not the future. A powerful machine with PC-esque architecture and a standard controller is the future. But yes, we shall agree to disagree. :)

#268170 “Nintendo was dead to us very quickly” says EA

Posted by SailtheSeas on 23 January 2014 - 05:53 AM

Not being a fanboy at all, as someone said EA are just enforcing a stereotype by saying wii u is for kids because nintendo dont make "mature" games. If they had said "the low wii u sales mean its unprofitable right now" then i wouldnt have a problem.

EA are just being babies because of the whole origin fiasco. If the console being for kids was a problem then why did EA still make games for the original wii? And why would their sports games not fit in with that demographic?

I don't buy into the "kiddies" argument as I don't consider Zelda (even Wind Waker HD) or games like Fire Emblem, Xenoblade and Metroid to be children's games. The beauty of Nintendo's software is that it appeals to all ages. I watched a Youtube video of the Animal Crossing New Leaf launch at Nintendo World and the entire crowd lining up outside waiting to purchase the game were all adults.

I've got Mario Party:Island Tour and Mario Tennis Open shortlisted on my Game wishlist and those are no doubt considered kiddie games, but I consider them to be games that can be played by everyone. Nintendo's greatest strength for me is that their games do not exclude anybody.

EA on the other hand create games designed for a small sub-section of people, sports fans, fps fans etc. Nintendo has something for everyone. Also when it comes to polished games, Nintendo is light years ahead of everyone else. After all these years I've still yet to find a single issue with any Nintendo game I've played. The same cannot be said for EA games.

#267585 Nintendo Pressed to Exit Hardware After Wii U Flop

Posted by SailtheSeas on 20 January 2014 - 06:31 AM

Nintendo becoming a third party developer will see their franchises fall from grace and will be the nails in their coffin as far as I'm concerned.

Nintendo also should stick with the Wii U for the next four or five years and in the mean time really assess where they've gone wrong and what they need to do in order to modernise themselves and become a real competitor in the home console market.

The people down playing the potential of a third straight fiscal loss are ignoring the fact that Nintendo are losing money. Businesses no matter how big or how wealthy simply cannot afford to lose money. Just ask the investors at Microsoft who are miffed that the Xbox division has lost a few billion since its creation.

Also the lack of sales sends its own message and that message is simple: The consumer doesn't want what a particular company is offering.

Nintendo really need to stand back and watch what Sony is doing because Sony with the PS1, PS2, PS3 (in the last few years of its lifecycle) and PS4 have played an absolute blinder. When it comes to marketing, making consoles and making software Sony is an accomplished company in all three fields.

#267202 Satoru Iwata: "I'm not going resign"

Posted by SailtheSeas on 18 January 2014 - 12:52 AM

Nintendo may well post a third consecutive fiscal loss and if this happens, Iwata's approval ratings may slide further downwards.

I like Iwata but the way in which the 3DS and Wii U were launched has hurt Nintendo. They released these devices without any must own/must play games and with very little marketing. Fortunately their AAA games Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 helped change the fortunes of the 3DS and I hope their AAA games help change the Wii U's fortunes.

But I think it maybe time for a change, Iwata as much as I like him just seems to have a lack of understanding of what gamers want. Why force the tablet controller onto customers who have no interest in such devices? It should have been an optional accessory with the Pro Controller being the standard issue controller. Had they done this and then had they released Zelda U and Super Smash Bros as launch games, then I highly doubt the Wii U would have been struggling like it was throughout 2013.

After the massive success of Wii, this guy isn't going anywhere anytime soon

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Past success is past success, all eyes in Nintendo's board room is on the present and the immediate future.

#267107 NPD results for all systems

Posted by SailtheSeas on 17 January 2014 - 11:52 AM

Considering Nintendo has only released one AAA game on the Wii U in Super Mario 3D World I don't think sales are doing too badly, once Mario Kart 8 comes out the numbers will grow even higher and I have to say I'm surprised that the Xbox One has outsold the PS4.

Given the amount of hype and glowing reviews the PS4 has had I expected it to be outselling the Xbox One everywhere.

#265810 Why I think the Wii U will do alright in the UK.

Posted by SailtheSeas on 10 January 2014 - 07:09 AM

I think the Wii U will do

Why am I seeing an abundance of the words 'PS4', '1080p', and '60 FPS'?

It is not in this thread specifically, but in many places on these forums, others, and in the comments sections of articles.

I am not sure I can pin point one game, currently out, that meets this standard (not including re-released stuff).

Wait, COD: Ghosts. I can think of one. However, everything else is 1080/30, usually upscaled.

What annoyed me about the PS4 is how Mark Cerny referred to the console as a supercharged PC when as Nvidia pointed out, the PS4 is a low-end PC. I believe the PS4 will be a great console, but people have really fallen for the whole "PS4 is a supercharged PC", the architecture of the PS4 was already outdated prior to its launch.

#264547 why are nintendo systems always weakest in competition

Posted by SailtheSeas on 03 January 2014 - 04:27 AM

but in our time now people think about specs more than anything else

Then what the hell are these people buying consoles for? It would be better to get into PC gaming if that's all they care about.
