#307905 Official Xenoblade Information Thread

Posted by lucario23 on 30 January 2015 - 03:12 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Gosh. I know he doesn't want the online elements to be too invasive, but I think the ONLY way I will have the motivation to spend 300 hours on this game is if I can co-op with my friends.

It appears the story progression is tied to the unions and the progress you make in them branches it out.

Seriously, this is 10000000X better than the same old thieves guild assassins guild, fighter guild mage guild junk.

Just to clarify, is the reason this system is better than the thieves/assassin's/fighter/mage guild because the actual story progression happens through them? Because honestly, I would prefer 1 "guild" that covers the events of the main story arc. I can't spend 300 hours on this game and all the different guilds.

also, while I have you here, thoughts on the "loosely connected online"?? I definitely don't want to feel aware of everyone else's presence all the time, but that also doesn't confirm or deny if I can co-op stuff with my friends.

#297748 MARK YOUR CALENDARS

Posted by lucario23 on 01 September 2014 - 02:32 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Only first party titles on the 2015 list that interests me are Zelda and Xenoblade.  :(

I've got an interest in Splatoon and Star Fox as well, but Zelda and Xenoblade are the two I'm really hoping for. I just hope they are worth the wait!!

#295942 3DS XL SSB Bundle

Posted by lucario23 on 14 August 2014 - 08:46 PM in General Gaming

So, I had actually been really looking forward to this until I saw it. I really don't like it. It's too cluttered. Too much stuff. Why couldn't we just get the smash bros logo ala the Link Between Worlds XL? That one was awesome!!

#294135 Hyrule Warriors

Posted by lucario23 on 24 July 2014 - 08:43 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Not my type of game. It still sucks to me.
Looks like a rebranded dynasty warrior.
I think there was even a metal gear solid like this.

Idk why game makers take there series so far away from what it use to be.

You do get the whole point of this game is to be a crossover of sorts to where you have a dynasty warriors style game set in the Zelda universe right? Like you're criticizing a game for doing exactly what the game is telling you it's going to do. I'm sorry it's not exactly what you want, but don't bash it or consider it crap because of that. Grade it impartially for quality, but grade as biased as you like as far as enjoyment.

#294131 Wii U update version 5.1.0 out now

Posted by lucario23 on 24 July 2014 - 08:18 PM in Wii U News

The downloads are tied to the NNID and the NNID is tied to the console. If something happens e.g your console breaks, you send it to your country's Nintendo and they have the way to transfer the NNID to another console ;)

Your NNID is your ID. You can see all the games you've purchased on both 3DS and Wii u from one console. Surely there's some override switch where you can link a new console to your NNID and shut down the old console if it ever connects again?

#293576 Would you buy more remakes of Pokemon?

Posted by lucario23 on 17 July 2014 - 04:22 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Because they could do a lot with a turn based system a la Final Fantasy Tactics. Yes I've played Xenoblade Chronicles and games with similar combat systems and they are awful especially on a console, although a real time with pause system like Baldur's Gate could work on Wii U with the touchscreen.

Ok, that's clearly a matter of opinion and not an objective view of the situation. While Xenoblade's is not the ONLY combat system that could work, saying it's awful without explaining why doesn't convince me. A turn based system would work for a game. I just think something like Xenoblade could really be made intuitive and make the game unique compared to the handhelds.

#293184 Would you buy more remakes of Pokemon?

Posted by lucario23 on 14 July 2014 - 01:46 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Why is there little to be gained? A big pokemon game on console would be fantastic and like others said amiibos could be used greatly.

No, I disagree with this completely. Keep the combat turn-based but incorporate movement into a little, like FF tactics or if they do go real time kind make it real time with pause like Baldur's Gate where you could use the gamepad to move pokemon around the battlefield.

I understand your concern. Have you played xenoblade chronicles? It looks like an action combat system til you really get to know it, then you start to see hat everything is on a timer, thus dictating "turns" so to speak that would give pokemon the same level of strategy while keeping players more engaged in the console experience. By taking this combat and designing it and the open world around Pokemon I bet monolith could come up with something that is both of high quality and still different enough from handhelds that wouldn't steal their market.

Plus, this opens up the possibility for a good story and deep story mechanics. Something pokemon should really explore on the consoles to set itself apart again, from the handheld.

Plus plus, if you REALLY HAVE TO HAVE your turn based, you could throw in the turn based combat as some kind of side thing/ let you battle on the big screen with 3DSs etc.

What is so important about keeping the combat so turn based anyway? Honestly curious.

#293180 Fire Emblem: Awakening characters and Captain Falcon announced for Smash

Posted by lucario23 on 14 July 2014 - 01:28 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I was expecting chrom and robin to be together, but I thought it'd be the other way around. Wish chrom would help out on a few other moves too though. Lucian looks like she's gonna be the quicker Marth from brawl more or less and Marth will be more reminiscent of his melee self

#293093 Would you buy more remakes of Pokemon?

Posted by lucario23 on 13 July 2014 - 07:29 AM in Wii U Games and Software

People need to get it through their heads that mainstream pokemon is never going to come to consoles. There's no point doing it, there's little to be gained, and Gamefreak have said multiple times that they don't want to.

With that being said though, Nintendo should definitely start using the IP on consoles, but it shouldn't be a copy of the handheld games. Perhaps some sort of MMO where the classes are based off pokemon types. For example Rock/Ground pokemon could be tanks while Psychics could be a mage class.

See my above post.

#293061 Would you buy more remakes of Pokemon?

Posted by lucario23 on 12 July 2014 - 09:06 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I want Monolith Soft to design a battle system for Pokemon and release a big open world JRPG set in the Pokemon Universe. THAT's What Pokemon needs to be on a console.

The following are optional features.

And if you wanted to incorporate the handheld combat system as a large side quest series and to play each other on the big screen with the handheld teams (3DS vs 3DS) I'd be cool with that too!

#293002 If you were in charge on Nintendo...

Posted by lucario23 on 12 July 2014 - 08:58 AM in Wii U Hardware

I would drop the Wii name faster then (insert funny joke here).

I would call it the Eff U before using Wii again.

Make your God Damn dev kits 5 YEARS before launch and get a Damn Metriod, a Mario, and a Zelda game out for launch (hell, throw a Pikmin in there too).

Yes Nintendo, You used to be able to launch a system with 3 total games for the first month or 2. Those days are long gone.

Since your are launching with actual games Nintendo fans love, market the Damn thing to Nintendo fans. No more casual BS. Keep it real, Then you have a chance of getting new gamers if you make some old school style games with modern tech. Your games are to easy.

My 4 year old loves Pikmin. He has beat most bosses in that game since he was 3 1/2.

When a 3 year old can beat your bosses your have lost your way.

Which brings me to my next idea. Market to the dad who wants to share good games with his kids. I am not Playing CoD wIth my 3 year old. But I let him watch/play Pikmin, Mario etc.

He loves Nintendo characters.

So what am I saying. ..mmm. ..

Launch with real games.

Market to hard-core Nintendo fans (not kids or college students. .. try the dad who loves the old games and wants something tasteful too share with kids)

Increase challenge so games aren't for soccer moms and 3 year olds.

There is probably more but i am not getting paid for this so I am losing interest.

Plus, as with all the other stuff I have been right about here, You guys will just call me an idiot. This should be enough material for that. 8).

OH. .. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. IT IS 2014 AND I CAN'T PLAY A DVD? MUCH LESS A BLU-RAY?! FIX THIS! !!!!!!

Lol. The irony about that is by the time the next wave of consoles come out, physical media will going out and everything will be streamed.

I'm a college kid. To which games are you referring that should be marketed towards you and not us? Metroid? F-Zero? Smash Bros? Heck, even Mario Zelda or fire emblem? You want these olde games back and you think college kids dot want that too? Very person at college I've talked to wants the old school Nintendo games back yet you say don't market to us? Please clarify...

#292706 The game industry thinks that you are stupid.

Posted by lucario23 on 09 July 2014 - 01:51 PM in General Gaming

To a certain extent he is right, but i don`t think that, in the case of BF, everything is lost. Hardlines, or whatever is the name of the next BF, will prove if EA really tried to change something or not.

I battlefield is suffering it is most certainly EAs fault and NOT DICE. Unless there are some key layoff I'm not aware of (which is actually possible) the talent for battlefield is there, they just can't be tied down by EA: "you have to have this out a a launch title even if its only half done"

#291157 Nintendo: Third-party publishers will return as Wii U sees more system sellers

Posted by lucario23 on 21 June 2014 - 06:53 PM in Wii U Games and Software

You HAVE NO POINT.

What you have is a fictional narrative you find attractive.

Iwatas Nintendo are damn SAINTS to 3rd parties compared to Yamauchi's N64 and gamecube days.

3rd parties dropped multiplat cube support, because Yamauchi literally told them they sucked, and anyone who made games for multiple platforms instead of unique games were worthless hacks, and he forced EVERYONE at nintendo to yes man this philosophy.

The n64/cube ARE THE REASONS 3rd parties wont do anything 'because its nintendo'.

Educate yourself.

http://www.dromble.c...ry-of-gamecube/

Eidos announced to the press that they were pulling support for the GameCube, and they told other publishers to follow their lead. “The GameCube is a declining business. If other companies follow us, [Nintendo] will have a hard battle to fight,” said Eido’s Chief Executive Mike McGarvey.

who was once part of the Ultra 64 “Dream Team” in 1995, had a great relationship with Nintendo. By 2003, the relationship soured, and Acclaim dropped its support for the Nintendo GameCube.

One by one, publishers began dropping their GameCube support like flies. At a Dutch event that same year (2003), Atari announced that Driver 3, Mission Impossible: Operation Surma, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines had all been cancelled on the GameCube and planned to axe other GameCube titles as well.

THQ followed Atari’s lead by cancelling the GameCube version of “The Suffering” and told the press that the game would still come to PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

Midway would also revealed that it had no future plans for Gamecube. “Mortal Kombat: Deception is not under development for GameCube,” a Midway representative said...

Educate your damn self.

yeah, Iwata's got a long uphill battle with third parties, but I think the indie scene will give them a place to prove to big publishers that Iwata's Nintendo is worth putting games on. Nintendo just needs to make it a goal they slowly and methodically move towards through the Wii U's life cycle and they will be fine.

I'd personally be going for every indie/kickstarter game I could get while trying to get as much cooperation from companies like Ubisoft and Square Enix. I know Ubi kind of messed with them on Watch Dogs and Rayman, but they are at least supporting the console. Which is a start, even if it was a lousy one.

#291061 Nintendo: Third-party publishers will return as Wii U sees more system sellers

Posted by lucario23 on 20 June 2014 - 07:46 PM in Wii U Games and Software

The Wii U's biggest problems in respect to western third parties are it's specs/architecture, and the online development/devs keeping you as connected as possible to withhold bits and pieces they can unlock when you show them cash.

I doubt you'd see these next gen ports even if the Wii U had the same specs and architecture as the PS4 simply because of the stigma that I won't sell/ isn't the type of game that sells on a Nintendo console.

#290454 Xenoblade X releasing in 2015

Posted by lucario23 on 15 June 2014 - 04:49 PM in E3 2014 Archive

Ok in Dragon Quest IX you play the main story but you can bring friends online to be part of your party instead of characters from the game. So yeah Co-op.

Also in DQIX you can play the entire game without going online as well. So I am betting on something like that. Also was was saying they also may have a optional online mode like The Last Story. That had nothing to do with the story just went online to fight and such. They may have one or the other or both but I can promise you can play offline if wanting to. Nintendo isn't that company and nor is Monolith. They are not MS,EA or Square. So doubt there is anything to worry about.

Ah, ok. I understand that. My main concern was that the Dragon Quest IX style online (or any for that matter ) Wouldn't be in the game. I really hope they have the Dragon Quest IX style to this!! I'd really like to play this sort of gameplay while co-oping with a few friends.

#290422 Xenoblade X releasing in 2015

Posted by lucario23 on 15 June 2014 - 02:46 PM in E3 2014 Archive

Me and a frienc had this talk before E3 and seems he was right. I was worried be a online focused game. He suggest will be a single player story with a big online Co-op mode as something seperate or something along the lines of Dragon Quest IX on DS. Online is there so either be a seperate mode or join your friends if you want. The meat of the game will be the story mode I am sure.

I'm confused, are you saying you think it still has onilne elements? like co-op? Cuz the character creation lends itself to that a bit, but idk. I really hope it is a fully co-op able story but can be played completely single player, but you'd think Nintendo would say something about it's online capability if it were happening...

#290412 Xenoblade X releasing in 2015

Posted by lucario23 on 15 June 2014 - 01:26 PM in E3 2014 Archive

3Dude. have we heard anything about if this game has any sort of multiplayer co-op yet? I know that was speculated a while back.

For some reason Kunihiko Tanaka's particular style invokes this reaction from people at first. Same exact thing happened when they saw the weird cherubby faces in xenosaga ep 1.

Of course, after they got used to it and Xenosaga II came around with normal anime faces, they then whined about not having the deformo faces... so I guess they slowly worked their way back?

I dont know, I was never a big fan of xenosaga. No gameplay, poor combat, a massive regression in level/world design compared to gears, and literally nothing but hours upon hours of cutscenes of cringeworthy cg wank material.... and the story was a poorly told convoluted mess that couldnt really make any intelligent subtle use of the philosophies it was based on like xenogears. So they shoved bouncing cg boobs in. Boobs boobs and more boobs.

Personally I was hoping for Kunihiko Tanaka's more xenogear like designs.

xenogears_conceptart_jFXgT.jpg
279752-xeno_bartholomew_fatima.jpg
xenogears6.jpg

But whatever. Ill take the faces knowing the game itself is safe and far away from anything remotely xenosaga, forged in Takahashis philosophy that xenosaga style game design is a dead end.

#290311 Grade each conference

Posted by lucario23 on 14 June 2014 - 05:06 PM in E3 2014 Archive

Microsoft- B-B+

Phantom Dust and Scalebound plus all the usual stuff was great!

Sony- N/A

didn't watch, but No Man's Sky is only a timed exclusive for them and I saw someone in this thread say it was console exclusive to them. It they lied/ extremely downplayed that I'll be extremely pissed and retroactively give them an F on the grading scale that's a 0%

Ubisoft- B to B-

Only got to see the first part of it, and I'm sure it was solid, but as I haven't heard about any new IPs that came out of that conference like Watch Dogs, The Crew, and the Division have in the last 2 years it really couldn't have been their best year.

EA C-

Battlefront, DICE, and Bioware saved this from becoming a complete disaster. Battlefront didn't have enough shown. Mass Effect looked neat but seemed pretty early on still, Battlefield Hardline and Mirror's Edge were basically the only other highlights besides that.

#288756 What features would you like to see announced for the Wii U at E3?

Posted by lucario23 on 08 June 2014 - 04:34 PM in General Gaming

Just making the whole menu system quicker. It's rather sluggish. Cross game chat obviously. Friends list and Miiverse being intertwined rather then having to go between the two apps would make it feels way more connected.

yeah, that's got to be their next step for the gamer. Giving them cross game chat. it's 2014 already. I don't care if it comes in more parental controls than you could possibly imagine as long as it has the functionality to chat with your friends and friends of your friends cross game.

#288750 What features would you like to see announced for the Wii U at E3?

Posted by lucario23 on 08 June 2014 - 04:03 PM in General Gaming

The title says it. We've not heard a word about any possible new features that could be announced at E3 (the focus has rightly been on the potential games announced). I've got tons of things I'd like to see, thought I doubt most of them will actually happen.

1) Cross Game chat.

I know this isn't really Nintendo's thing, but a cross game chat system where you could even have video if it's 4 people or less and all of you are friends would be awesome. There are tons of ways to implement this in a kid friendly manner. Also, make this feature a part of the friends list app thing. It's the most logical place to put it and put the messaging system there too! This needs to happen because there are just so many moments in Nintendo gaming I want to share with my friends. My friends and I could all be talking to each other while taking our first steps into the new Zelda game and ooh-ing and ah-ing together, or talking smack on Smash Bros and Mariokart, or hopefully co-oping in X together. etc etc.

2) Updated Miiverse (potentially likely)

Miiverse has always seemed clunky to me. Basically a UI update making it more like a traditional forum/facebook would be really neat to see. I think an update of some kind is actually pretty likely as it's been the same since basically launch.

3) Greater awareness of online happenings.

I want a system of easily knowing what friends of mine are online and what they are up to and be able to join their games when possible (think the join game feature for 3DS). They have an excellent online community with Miiverse and I want to be able to track my friends in this community etc. This DOES NOT mean I want it to turn into and Xbox as far feature heavy, but I would like to see a few subtle changes to make seeing friends coming online etc more accessible and not tucked away in a menue. More or less an improvement of features already in place than adding all sorts of crazy stuff.

4) (a demonstration of improvement of the platform  in some form)

This one is basically a blanket statement that gives them the benefit of the doubt for something new or a feature I didn't know I want or am forgetting off the top of my head.

Let me know what you guys would like to see! I'm mostly about the games with Nintendo, but I would ilke to see the console get a little more diverse with the features. E3 is usually when a few new features get announced if they are big enough news.

*disclaimer* Not sure if this should be in the E3 section or not, but I figured this was probably the better place for it as it wasn't anything related to confirmed E3 news.
