#6921 What Consoles do you have?
Posted by Guest on 15 June 2011 - 08:01 AM in General Gaming
I might purchase several old consoles such as N64, Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, Wii, PS2, PSP and PS Vita, if I got enough money.
PS Vita? What's that? It's so old I don't even remember anymore. And a Wii? Wasn't that Nintendo's console before the NES?

Sega Master System (sold)
Nintendo 64
GameCube
Wii
Game Boy Pocket
Nintendo DS
Nintendo 3DS
Considering half of these consoles/handhelds are as old as or even older than I am, I guess you can say that I have a life. It's called video gaming.

#81772 General Wii U E3 2012 Discussion
Posted by Guest on 30 May 2012 - 02:44 AM in Wii U Hardware
Jokes aside, let me put my inner fanboy on chains now...
...
Basically, what we want to know is:
- How will the Wii U compare to PS360?
- How will the Wii U compare to "Orbis" and "Durango"?
1. Well, not much to say about that. The Xbox 360 and the PS3 are old consoles. Even though they were good when they were released, they're old now. Really old. Ever heard of Moore's Law? Let me quote Wikipedia for that:
Moore's law is a rule of thumb in the history of computing hardware whereby the number of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years. The period often quoted as "18 months" is due to Intel executive David House' date=' who predicted that period for a doubling in chip performance (being a combination of the effect of more transistors and their being faster).[/quote']
What does this mean for us?
The capabilities of many digital electronic devices are strongly linked to Moore's law: processing speed' date=' memory capacity, sensors and even the number and size of pixels in digital cameras.[7] All of these are improving at (roughly) exponential rates as well (see Other formulations and similar laws).
Yeah, admittedly, the speed of development is currently slowing down, and won't be as fast anymore in the future. However, I think you see that there's no way Nintendo can end up with hardware less capable than the hardware PS360 use. Heck, if they really wanted to have a less capable console, it would probably cost a lot more than one with up-to-date specs, because it would be an antique, lol.
2. This one isn't as funny anymore
There are numerous reasons for that. Firstly, Moore's Law again. Their hardware would be better for the same price just because it's newer. Also, there are some other points, and I have another source for that. Specifically, NeoGAF. Most infos on there can be seen as rather valid, as the mods on NeoGAF ban anyone claiming stuff they can't prove, but I advise you to take it with a grain of salt nevertheless.
The information is hidden somewhere in their enormous Wii U speculation thread #6, and I'm not gonna try to find it. HERE's the link for those of you who're bored or have too much time.
So, that's what the apparent insiders on NeoGAF claim: The Xbox 720/"Durango" will most likely have the best specs, just like the first Xbox had, while the Wii U will either be the next generation's PS2 or Dreamcast. That's where the insiders don't agree; one says it's probably more like the PS2, while the other claims it's more like the Dreamcast, and the difference in graphics will be noticeable.
The reason for that seems to be Microsoft giving in to Epic's demands of better hardware. Sony, according to the guys who know too much than is good for them, or at least claim to do so, hasn't decided yet and as such the PS4/"Orbis" will most likely be in between the Wii U and the 720, leaning more towards the 720. So, the Wii U will probably be the weakest console yet again, but not nearly as weak as the Wii was compared to PS360.
Well, I'm not up-to-date to how up-to-date you guys are, lol, so I'll just comment on the UE4 as if you had never heard of it, alright? The point is, UE4 isn't about how powerful the systems are, but about what you can do with them, generally speaking. The Wii didn't get UE3 because it didn't have programmable shaders. Now, the Wii U's GPU is rather new (compared to the other consoles' GPUs), so it MIGHT work with UE4. We don't know yet. However, it's not about specs, so don't think the Wii U is gonna suck just because it doesn't support UE4, most devs will probably stick to UE3 for some years anyway.
Basically, the Wii U will almost inevitably be inferior to Sony's/MS' consoles, but we'll have a pretty nice time for the first few years of it's lifetime, and it probably won't be as bad as it was with the Wii anyway (concerning 3rd parties). Keep in mind that Nintendo aims for a 5 year cycle, whereas MS and Sony most likely want their consoles to be more future-proof. In this case, we might get a "Wii Us" or whatever 5 years after the Wii U, and this one would be superior to the competition yet again.
Oh, and BTW, auto save has to be a blessing of Hylia herself! I accidentally deleted everything instead of posting, but it didn't get lost! YAY!

Well, if we're already talking about the Moon Tribe, I wonder whether (extreme spoiler ahead, don't read it if you didn't finish Okamiden yet)
Last but not least, I'm pretty sure that EVERYONE who played Okami(den) loves this guy here:
Issun from Okami
He wasn't really important in Okamiden, but he's one of the funniest characters in Okami by far. His comments are epic

Furthermore, Wind Waker in HD is one of the best-looking games I've ever seen. Many fans might hate the style but WW aged much better than most other games.
BTW, if you're planning on playing your GC/Wii games on a PC/notebook, you've got to get a drive capable of reading the discs. That is, if you don't want your PC to be full of viruses
The only request I have is... a complete video walktrough of SMG, SMG2, Z:WW, Z:TP and MP:T. Have fun!

Well, after that, you can configure your Wiimote to work with your PC (if you've got Bluetooth) or you can use an Xbox360 gamepad. They can be used with PCs AFAIK and Dolphin lets you configure the controls as you like. You can even use your keyboard, but that's not really comfortable. Anyways, I recommend you to visit the Dolphin forums if you're looking for special configurations for a certain game as every game needs other settings to run well. Not to forget that you need a good graphics card for good performance.
The cool thing is, Dolphin supports WiiMotion+ and even 3D! A shame my PC's too slow
PS: Err, it REALLY irritates me that IP.Board links all brand names to eBay shop sites. Is this on purpose, Feld0?
#4562 I think there's a handheld better then the 3DS.

Saying the PS3 does everything VIta does better is just an odd statement
Well, I didn't know that the battery life actually is that long. Ignore that particular statement, it only makes sense (at least a bit) if you think of the Vita as a handheld with limited mobility, which it would be with a battery life of less than 2-2.5 hours. I've got to admit it's better than I thought, though it's still not innovative enough. Sony did make a step forwards, but they have to innovate on a much bigger scale if they want me to like them .

Here's some gameplay of the new Kirby Wii
On topic: You know, it's just that Sony should quit the gaming business from my point of view or at least stop making new hardware.
Firstly, they hardly make any money with their hardware. It took years for the PS3 to start to pay off (if it even pays off at all, I don't know), and it most probably will be the same for the PSVita.
It will be almost impossible for them to include a decent battery if they want to make money, and with 1-2 hours of battery life, there really is now way any intelligent person is going to buy it.
There simply is no reason why to buy it. Everything the PSVita can do can be done better by the PS3, except the touchscreen thing.
On the other hand, the PS3 has motion controls, the PSVita doesn't. This means, the PSVita is either going to fail, or Sony will once again lose lots of money.
Secondly, graphics won't be as important anymore for future gens.
The only thing you buy a Sony console/handheld for is high-end-tech, whereas Nintendo loves to invent things the dudebro/"hardcore" crowd likes to call "gimmicky".
In my eyes, these Nintendo inventions are what distinguishes console/handheld gaming from PC gaming. CPUs, GPUs and memory are getting better all the time, it's ridiculous to base one's console on better specs once they don't matter as much anymore.
Don't understand me wrong, I usually don't take the Nintendo-fanboy-"graphics don't matter!"-approach. IMO, graphics have been a driving force in video game history, but many up-to-date video games already look extremely real. I'm perfectly content with sub-PS360 graphics if I get unique gameplay in return.
Sadly, Sony showed with the PSVita that they're going to follow their path of including cutting-edge processing tech and using every Ninty innovation twice.
What I want to say, is... Look at the SNES controller. It has two shoulder buttons. Then, the N64 controller adds some other buttons and an analog stick. The PSOne controller has four shoulder buttons and two analog sticks. Wohoo, using an innovation from the competitor twice should appeal twice as much to the gamers, right?
Later, one player could use two black WiiMotes with an ugly orb at the same time. Two swords instead of one sword would be cool, right? Frankly, yes, but it isn't innovative.
And now the latest Sony invention: take a PSP, give it a second analog stick and use Nintendo's last innovation twice. There you have it, two touchscreens. EXTREMELY innovative.
