#309127 Code Name S.T.E.A.M

Posted by Marcus on 17 February 2015 - 02:55 PM in General Gaming

I'll have to give it a go I guess to see how it plays out. Even watching videos, it's a bit hard to grasp the pacing.

Part of it will just come down to how quick you are as a player.I felt that the fact that you can't necessarily see what the enemy is doing is an interesting design approach, but makes the experience feel less fluid. Felt like a lot of starting and stopping.

Not trial and error. Replaying chapters. If you just look around you can keep track of enemy placements and know where to hide. It's a challenge.

I assume it's mostly replaying chapter because you start off with few characters though right?

The gameplay seems fast paced enough and I think I will have fun using the FE amiibo too.

From my demo playthrough, that seemed to be exactly what the gameplay wasn't. Much more slow and methodical than Fire Emblem, which seems to be the obvious comparison for turn based strategy.

I've never played a turn based strategy game before, but the demo sold me on it. As a side note, I hope Nintendo restocks all the FE amiibo so the amiibo functionality doesn't go unused by most.

If you've never played a turn based strategy game before, hurry up and play Fire Emblem Awakening (assuming you weren't placing that in a different genre). It's a lot better than this.

#309541 Darksiders or Castlevania being teased...or something else

Posted by Marcus on 23 February 2015 - 05:51 PM in General Gaming

Darksiders 3 please! Although I'm guessing it'd skip the Wii U.

#309536 Devils Third - More New Tidbits

Posted by Marcus on 23 February 2015 - 04:16 PM in Wii U Games and Software

My main question about this is why on earth it's a Wii U exclusive. This would sell a hell of a lot more on Xbox.

#309538 Devils Third - More New Tidbits

Because originally it was for PS3 and 360. used Relic Engine but then they went out of business. THQ picked up publishing rights and was on Darksiders II engine. THQ went out of business. Nintendo like they did with Bayonetta 2 swooped in saved the game and said they would publish it. Now it's on UE3. So like Bayonetta 2 if not for Nintendo the game would not exist.

I find it funny when ever MS or Sony publish something people either cheer or don't react. When Nintendo does. "why is this not on console X or Y?"

Well that's only cos it's better suited to the Xbox. That's where the action whores live. I understand the reasoning though. Given that the game was well under way, it was an opportunity for Nintendo to get an exclusive game at a lower cost than it otherwise would've been.

#314104 Devils Third new footage!

OK so it does look considerably better than the earliest material. I'm looking forward to the explanation for carboard box man.

#314121 Devils Third new footage!

Does it really? either way I couldnt watch that we need like an english sub version. Either way this was and still is my most anticipated game of the year

Lol I said that before I watched the trailer actually. I think it actually looks about the same as it did originally. It just looks weird to be honest.

#315620 Devils Third. Bad news for US Wii U owners

Posted by Marcus on 30 June 2015 - 02:34 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Why would they think it'll do better in Europe than the US? Only a few games do.

#315784 Doom 4 - First Footage

Posted by Marcus on 04 July 2015 - 09:26 AM in General Gaming

Haven't played a Doom game since Doom 1 back in the early 90s. I did enjoy that this actually looks like those original games though, in its pace and style. Just ridiculous kinda Mortal Kombat style gore, which is an important part of any civil society :-)

#316278 Dragon Quest XI - PS4, 3DS, NX

So you gonna rename this forum if the Wii U just dies next year or what?

#312182 Earthlock Wii U RPG

Posted by Marcus on 21 April 2015 - 08:08 AM in Wii U News

Game looks pretty good from where I'm sitting. I imagine it's quite a task to create a full 3D RPG with these visuals when you're an indie group.

My only worry is that it'll be a bit simplistic. Story wise and gameplay wise. Hope they prove me wrong.

it doesnt look that bad, but surely will not be as good as skies of arcadia

171-Skies_of_Arcadia-5.jpg

the characters on skies of arcadia are badass, these ones kind of feel like meh, i see no determination on their eyes(well maybe the girl passes but her eyes look cold instead of determined)

This could be posted on every new game thread!!

#316495 English Xenoblade X footage

Cool stuff. Although doesn't really matter that it's english with them yapping away for the whole thing!

#310264 eShop WayForward sale March 12 - 19, three games 75% off

Posted by Marcus on 09 March 2015 - 03:02 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't really know what Mighty Switch Force is, but at those prices.. haha. I agree that Shantae still seems a little steap.

Mighy Switch Force is a fairly light pick-up-and-play puzzle platformer that I thought was really quite excellent. It's only downside is that it's fairly short (e.g it takes about 1/100th of the time of Pushmo to complete, a game at the same price). But when you've got 1&2 available so cheap, definitely go for it! They're the kind of game you'll probably blaze through but after you've finished them and left them for 6 months or something, you'll be up for playing them again.

#313796 Fast Racing NEO - New Pics!

If these guys could do gameplay as well as they graphics, they'd be damn awesome.

Weren't these guys threatening a video at some point?

#299535 FFXV Trailer does it's best Xenoblade impression

Posted by Marcus on 01 October 2014 - 08:14 AM in General Gaming

what happened to turn based RPG?

Haha they perfected it in FFX so thought the best next move would be to just completely ditch the concept that they'd invented and perfected.

#308606 For What It's Worth: Xenoblade comparison N3DS and Wii

Posted by Marcus on 10 February 2015 - 04:54 AM in General Gaming

Yeah, but still, the character models in OOT 3D/ MM 3D looked better than that of this game in my opinion, Shulk's face just looks really flat is all...

Agree. But think how much bigger the Xenoblade world is than any of the Zelda worlds. They've got an awful lot of stuff to render after the characters.

I dislike the word "indefinitely" here.

#308758 Get your hopes up about Zelda Wii U and Xenoblade X, but not too much (imo)

Posted by Marcus on 12 February 2015 - 11:59 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Hmmmm, I'm not convinced that was necessarily meant literally. He could've just meant that as a way of saying "it's huge."

When you look at the world map on that preview video, it doesn't look that big. Certainly not as big as XCX! Of course, maybe what we saw wasn't the entire world map.

And I can't really imagine them going that large with Zelda. Just doesn't seem to fit the formula.

#308763 Get your hopes up about Zelda Wii U and Xenoblade X, but not too much (imo)

What is so hard to understand where he literally uses Kyoto as his base size for Zelda U?

Been posted in this forum a hundred times how the maps match up. The size matches up.

You have no idea if he meant it literally. It could've just been a bad translation.

Point me at where someone shows that the "size matches up".

That's some pretty heavy Bethesda criticism. I do agree on what you're calling spatial compression as a form of bad game design. The difference between Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 3 is a great example of this. Mass Effect 3 is so clearly designed to appeal to a mainstream audience that you have to have a consistent list of attractions at every single location in the game. Mass Effect 1 feels more like a more believable universe. Planets you explore are mostly barren and empty. There are whole areas in the various "hub" locations that are completely meaningless, but are simply there to be explored. I remember 1 part on the Citadel, you run down a long corridor to someone's office. There's no-one in there. And nothing of interest throughout the entire game. That's actually a good thing. It makes it a more believable world.

I'd love to know what they actually include in their calculations of world size. If there's a lake that's 1mile x 1mile in area with an interesting island at the centre of it, I'm betting they include that whole square mile in their arithmetic. Which is kinda cheating.

if Nintendo's claim is correct yes. They claim the size of Kyoto. So Zelda U is maybe double the size of XCX.

Can I have a reference to that?

This is news to me too.
