#279686 Mario Kart 8 Devs Praise Wii U Power - Show Off Visual Stunner

Posted by Happy Monk on 03 April 2014 - 10:37 AM in Wii U Games and Software

In all honesty, Mario Kart 8 is the nicest-looking game I have ever seen. I just can't get over it.

#257410 Fast Racing Neo uses “4-8k Textures”, to Produce “Hyper real Graphics”, says Shi

Posted by Happy Monk on 22 November 2013 - 05:50 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Hopefully the game can stand up to it's visuals. Shin'en know how to craft nice-looking games, but their level-design know-how and general game-play concerns seem less well developed. I'm not saying their games are bad (all three I've played are good) but they aren't the best. Nano Assault Neo would've been fantastic if it were longer though.

I am intrigued to at least see this new game though.

#272228 Nintendo Direct Discussion Thread

Posted by Happy Monk on 13 February 2014 - 03:50 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Europe never got any of these indie titles in the direct it was all 3DS basically.

Also this is a WII U forum. We don't all have 3DS.

We got plenty on Wii U: Smash Bros (so much hype), new X info, Bayonetta 2, awesome Donkey Kong trailer, even better mario kart 8 trailer, NES Remix 2 and Child of Light. It was a good direct, but it didn't have any new "big" announcements like Hyrule Warriors so people complain. I for one will be spending time buying and playing eShop games on my 3DS thanks to the awesome sale (when I'm not doing the insane amount of work I have at the moment).

#224562 Lack of DirectX 11 support blocking Kingdom Hearts III from Wii U

Posted by Happy Monk on 20 June 2013 - 08:42 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't get it, it's Kingdom Hearts, what's the problem?

Jokes.

Square Enix have been iffy for a little while, not announcing whether or not Dragon Quest X will come outside of Japan and their endless insistence on IOS and Android ports baffle me.

But yeah, the Wii U can easily run Kingdom Hearts 3, just like any other game I saw at E3.

#271524 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 11:04 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Ditto. If they do then Ubi goes on my bottem well carp list. They are already in my naughty list and I would really like to support child of light.

If you want Child of Light, buy it. People not buying games because of annoyance that games don't come out, get delayed etc... are missing the point. If you stop buying their games, they will stop making their games for the console you own. You need to show support by purchasing their games, all you do when refusing to buy a game based on the company that made it is proving their point.

Also: Child of Light looks great!

#271519 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 10:56 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Why would a delay make you cancel pre-orders? People deciding that they will not buy a game because of a delay or because of "ethical" reasons are feeding the company's distrust. If you don't buy their games, they won't make more. The smartest move is to show support, I mean, a delay is a delay, if it means we get a better game as a result do a few months really matter?

This is why I still plan on buying the game for my Wii U, also because it looks interesting.

#271535 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 12:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I thought you did that 2 years ago.

You think we're getting a better game.
We're getting a game they can claim as a separate SKU to delay DLC until the desire for it is exactly 0.
They want excuses not to invest in the platform.

I'm not saying we'll get a better game than the other platforms, I'm saying the version we get will be better with the delay than it would be without.

I couldn't care less about DLC (other than batman, grrr).

I dunno about excuses not to invest in the platform, haven't people been giving them reasons already? If anything, this shows Ubisoft is still willing to put a game out on the Wii U, even if it means a delay - which is more than we can say with many other publishers.

#271551 Watch dogs wii u delayed

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 February 2014 - 02:51 PM in Wii U Games and Software

People are not missing the point and your approach to this is not how I as a consumer look at things.  Missing a launch date is one thing, but perpetually missing dates indicates lack of true support.  I'm a consumer, not a sheep.  Take what you can get is not something I do.

No, what I'm saying is that people decide not to buy the game if it's delayed, will prove the point that nobody wants the games on the system. Then people complain that the games aren't coming while it is them not buying them in the first place. The fact that it's got delayed shouldn't make you stop buying it, it just means you have to wait a little longer.

I'm still getting it. Unless they cancel it later...

#268095 “Nintendo was dead to us very quickly” says EA

Posted by Happy Monk on 22 January 2014 - 04:19 PM in Wii U Games and Software

EA, making friends with Nintendo fans since 2012.

#272603 Bayonetta 2

Posted by Happy Monk on 15 February 2014 - 12:04 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Bayonetta 2 looks amazing in every department. How can I not get something with the word "Fimbleventor" in it?

#272615 Bayonetta 2

Posted by Happy Monk on 15 February 2014 - 12:14 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I hope The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 aren't the only games that Platinum Games are planning to release on the Wii U.

Time will tell, and some more money from Nintendo.

#233122 Are Devs "Lazy" Or Is The Wii U Difficult To Develop For?

Posted by Happy Monk on 19 July 2013 - 05:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

this year is going to tell us all we need to know. watchdogs, splinter cell, ac4, cod:ghost, if they fail to run better on Wii U than 360 than its fair to say whether its more capable or not developers dont care and its not worth it to them. at this point i dont care(outside of nba2k14) just give me bayo2, mk8, x, and other goodies im sure they have planned for next year. its confirmed now(as it should have been years ago) dont buy a DAMN nintendo console for 3rd party support.

The Wii U versions will not run better than the previous gen versions. Not because it can't outperform them, but because Ubisoft and Activision will put out cheap, quick ports that do not need to sell many copies to make money. I will be very surprised if they do run better at all.

#252607 Does IGN hate Nintendo?

Posted by Happy Monk on 22 October 2013 - 08:57 AM in Wii U Games and Software

No they're not. Just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean they are crap. ID like to see you do a better job. The chances are you probably can't. At the end of the day reviews are personal opinions and nothing more. You don't have to agree with them but that doesn't mean they are crap. If every review was the same and their was no difference of opinions it would be pretty boring. Personally I like to see different and honest view points whether I agree with them or not.

I dunno, they're Sonic Lost World review was bad - everything they liked about the game in the previews was what they hated in the review. Reviews are good if they are consistent, logical and their arguments make sense. Something I am trying to teach myself. If you can write a review with a natural approach as to what you like and/or dislike about the product you are on to a winner. The impressions I got from IGNs Sonic Lost World review was that it was clearly rushed.

A much more informed and superbly written review of that game can be found on Nintendo Official Magazine's website. Plus, IGN are far too offended by games with different approaches to controls, ugh, learning.

There is a general trend however for Nintendo's games to be underrated on review aggregate sites such as metacritic. Or is it that 360 and PS3 games are highly overrated? I leave it up to you to decide.

#210143 No Hate - But People Are Taking Another Look @ Wii U

Posted by Happy Monk on 22 May 2013 - 02:16 PM in Wii U Games and Software

While Mircosoft at the moment is under water right now for stupid decisions (No backwards compatibility, no used-game support, focusing on the casual market, online requirement) they shouldn't be counted out yet. Since what Microsoft showed us was a glimpse of what they have in-store for at the E3 event, we need to have higher expectations.   The Wii U isn't doing so hot right now either, it sold at least 6,000 (probably more) units in Japan last week, a drought of games, and arguably the worst launch in recent memory for a home console. Microsoft's direction with the Xbox One is completely different from the 360's approach, now they are trying to reach out to the casual gamer more than they did before. I have an idea of what Microsoft has planned for E3, and if it's isn't like what I hope, then this system is doomed to fail miserably while 360 users migrated to the the Wii U and PS4.

Wait until their conference happens, that conclude with your decision, you make yourself like utterly foolish and ridiculous by rushing to a conclusion.

The Wii U actually had a rather successful launch, second only to the Wii's. It's since Christmas ended it hasn't been selling... Immediate post launch is where it's falling down.

#210110 No Hate - But People Are Taking Another Look @ Wii U

People really are just waiting for the Wii U to pick up some awesome first party games. And maybe for it to go cheaper.

#213842 COD Ghosts Outed By E3Insider

Posted by Happy Monk on 31 May 2013 - 11:37 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The "new engine" for Ghosts is the same engine, with some better plugins.  Also, it was confirmed that Naughty Dog will be using the same engine for PS4 development that they did for PS3 development because what they got out of those engines was "good enough"

At any rate, Wii U would get the enhanced engine.

But hasn't Nintendo used pretty much the same engine since Mario 64? I know Shin'en has used the same engine since their DS games, just adding new features when they need new features.

Essentially, it doesn't matter if a game is using a new engine, just how it uses the engine.

The Wii U will get the enhanced engine. I agree.

#214354 COD Ghosts Outed By E3Insider

Posted by Happy Monk on 01 June 2013 - 02:59 PM in Wii U Games and Software

No, Nintendo introduced new engines with the GC, and carried them over to the Wii.  They are creating new ones for the Wii U, but demos like the Zelda tech demo ran in a Wii engine that was modified.  The problem is that the COD engine is the same one introduced in 1996.

Fair enough. I know Shin'en has used the same engine since their DS games, just adding in new assets when required.

#232056 Sony Prove the Wii U's Texture Bandwidth is not slow

I personally can't wait to see Shin'ens next game for the Wii U, those five guys know what they're doing.

#278737 Assassins Creed Comet WiiU (among others) Rumor

Posted by Happy Monk on 27 March 2014 - 06:29 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I loved III's setting but it's also been done in Liberation, which makes it overdone imo.  They've also overdone Italy.

There are so. Freaking. Much. Interesting settings and era's for the series, they shouldn't stick  to the same. Why not make a game in London, during the industrial  revolution? Or a game in Russia?

The best thing about III was its setting. Everything else kinda let it down.

#278678 Assassins Creed Comet WiiU (among others) Rumor

Posted by Happy Monk on 26 March 2014 - 04:46 PM in Wii U Games and Software

What will  the  setting be? Revolutionary America again? If so, no buy. I also didn't buy Revelations and Brotherhood.

I want  Unity for  Wii U. The French revolution is pretty interesting.

The French Revolution is a very interesting era for Assassin's Creed.

I hope this new one is not revolutionary America again. Although it is apparently a sequel to Assassin's Creed III, hopefully it should be better fun.

And hopefully much, much less edgy.

#205697 Update speed boost to cpu &gpu utter rubbish?

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 May 2013 - 05:16 AM in Wii U Hardware

Pretty sure it'd be possible but it would increase heat and power consumption, most likely.

Yeah, like I said, this rumour is utter arse.

#205694 Update speed boost to cpu &gpu utter rubbish?

Posted by Happy Monk on 10 May 2013 - 05:07 AM in Wii U Hardware

Is it not possible to overclock core speeds with an update? I'd assume you could.

The numbers on display however are far too high. Surely it would be possible to take the CPU speeds up to say, 2.0 GHZ and the GPU to 600 MHZ.

I'm not suggesting this rumour is true (it's clearly not), I'm just saying would it not be possible, just to a lesser extent?

#245659 Exactly how much of a downgrade would a PS4 game suffer on Wii U?

Posted by Happy Monk on 12 September 2013 - 10:06 AM in Wii U Hardware

I always go back to this - Iwata said games like Assassin's Creed 3 are only utilizing around 50% of the Wii U's raw power, indeed many of the games released thus far by third parties have only used one of the three CPU cores for the main brunt of processor-heavy elements.

Assassin's Creed 3 looks good enough on Wii U (occasional frame stuttering), imagine something using at least 90% of the system's potential raw power. The Wii U will be fine in terms of graphics, behind? yes. Like the Wii? no. More like the PS2 compared to the Gamecube.

As long as sales pick up, third party ports should start appearing more. But it will never be enough for the internet.
