#40210 Wii U will start the next gen... tech wise!

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 04:44 AM in Wii U Hardware

Well, it's like you said. The only people questioning it are the flaming rage-hating fanboys. Why do they still question it? Because they still don't want to believe that the system that they're a fanboy of is about to be dethroned as having the best graphics.

First off, just to check..you mean 'flaming-rage hating fanboys' right? Rage is a good game ;)

I really don't think people are purposefully making a stab at the WiiU's graphics at all (if there actually is 'hate' amongst gamers..i mean, really?), if anything it is because of Nintendo's branding for their new home console, and that it is once again representing something they [gamers] haven't invested in. Imagine if you really dislike Nintendo and their 'approach' to production, it would force you to make a decision once the option to buying the console opens up; either, swallow your pride and get involved in something new and enjoy what is being offered, or continue to make your excuses to why Nintendo just isn't for you and probably save yourself some money...? I mean, that must be the only advantage to not buying the latest console surely?

People who aren't interested in the Wii U will just move on to talk about XBox 720 and, to some degree, the Playstation 4. If they don't, ignore them! No one likes a flaming-raging fanboy. I will admit mind, my research into these matters is a little out of date...

#40211 145 Ways the Wii U Can Enhance Modern Gaming

Oh noooo! The link seems to be broken now :(( can anyone put up another link so I can checkit! Thanks!

#40212 I am beginning to wonder...yet would NOT be surprised if it would end up so...

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 05:31 AM in Wii U Hardware

To put it simply, the Wii U is going to have the most influence on girls than any other 'home' console has had before. This makes too much sense after a little thought, so I made this post. Hello. Although the examples we have seen for the console so far have been working titles etc, the concept for Wii U kinda seems appropriate for a female audience more than the likes of the 360 and the PS3.

Spare a few thoughts to all the factors involved in the development of the Wii U, and what it stands for in this current time. Can you say that it isn't quite fitting? If examples must be made, just ask...but let's discuss first! :D

(P.S. I posted this in the Hardware part of the forum for a reason...)

#40213 Can you imagine Mario with PS3 graphics?

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 06:10 AM in Wii U Games and Software

At first, I thought you were talking about Mario's image! Like, his character model. Isn't that what anyone else thought?? Of course a Mario game in HD would look good! Hard to imagine maybe, but each art style Nintendo introduce is always of the highest quality. I am going to reference Mario Galaxy of course, but as a better example...Skyward Sword.

Expanding on that analogy, Mario as a character model may adopt some Mario Sunshine 'opening movie' style cel-shaded look, which is used to some degree in Skyward Sword. OH MY GOD I just realised how excited I am for all this upcomingness!!

#40219 Wii U's Rejection.

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 07:28 AM in Wii U Games and Software

ALL IN ALL...it is way too early to speculate on whether the Wii U is gonna slip through the fingers of a great opportunity.

I think Nintendo will make a grand job of it's release, no matter what expectations end up becoming reality (regarding third party support). From all the lessons learnt as an 'independent' [important] video games hardware/software developer over the years (not too mention the monitoring throughout the whole of the HD generation so far), it will be tasteful and will make every opportunity in their advantage. Innovation has proven to work out very well. Unlike the 3DS however, Nintendo won't focus the brand really heavily on just one innovative feature that will actually have anything to do with playing the games.

I can see them going the same route as Apple have many times before, and introduced things that are so well designed, people will ignore that it has been done before WHILST they also bring another new dimension to playing home video games. To say the Wii U's been rejected already is just not right.

#40236 Wii U is the perfect console!

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 08:31 AM in Wii U Hardware

No console is perfect but Wii-U is near on as far as I am concerned, the only gripe I have are the nubs but maybe that will change.
But things I like:
The screen is awesome, imagine playing Mario Kart and the screen shows constantly whats behind you...so you can see both at the same time (sort of)
You can instant message and webcam from it meaning no waiting for the PC to boot up...surf the web...plus no chance of a virus... :P
I can lay in bed playing :D
Nintendo have a long history of advances in developing controllers that become the industry standard,so you know this tablet will rock.
Its going to be quite powerful and big developers are bringing their big franchises to it like Batman Arkham City,GTA5 is rumoured,Darksiders,so Wii-U owners will have the best of both worlds,Nintendo games and these titles from studios like EA and Rocksteady and more...for me this is a killer selling point which puts Wii-U in a different place to the other consoles.
Plus Nintendo are revealing the 'finished' Wii-U at next years E3...this means there will be lots more big developments and shocks I am sure :o
Good time to be a Nintendo fan :D

I know that this [ ^^^^^ ] cannot now be the end thread of the discussion because I have now taken that lol :P But this kind of positive thinking is what seems to be lacking at the moment. Everyone is forgetting the huge list of possibilities with Wii U, and just how much time Nintendo have to improve on, adapt or whatever's necessary to make it a success. Good on you! I wanna see more EXCITEMENT!! YEA! X3

#40329 I am beginning to wonder...yet would NOT be surprised if it would end up so...

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 02:46 PM in Wii U Hardware

Right now there aren't any reasons to say that. However it is expected that they will add games to the Wii U that will appeal to the female gamer. Nintendo like to broaden there focus of there audiences with their consoles. However one strong competition they will have is the kinect.

Good point. Girls will come across XBox more often than the Wii U (although by then many XBox owners may not have additional hardware). By then, who knows where Kinect will be in it's life cycle? Maybe even be at it's peak!

#40407 Wii U power

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 05:07 PM in Wii U Hardware

It has to be atleast 3-5 times more powerful than the PS3/360, because the Wii U apparently using a ATI/AMD RV770 4890 which the high end 4xxx series which was made in late 2009. The Next-Box is rumored to be released at 2013, it would most likley use 2010-2012 processors, obviously it won't be a huge leap, both Microsoft and Sony doesn't want to make the mistakes that the PS3 had. (the PS3 cost $800 to produce) So the Wii U will need alot of power but still keeping the console affordable, the Wii U will most likley be the PS2 of that generation, meaning it will be the weakest of the three, but still powerful enough to handle multiplatform games. My bet is that the Wii U will cost 300-350 US Dollars, and 250 British Pounds, any more than the Wii U is destined to failure.

@Masterman280
I agree with your intellectual insight here, although £270 wouldn't be a bad price at all for the WiiU. It is actually quite an attractive asking price, giving that we are all going to pretty much agree and state 'fair game' come the spec announcement, or at launch. I wouldn't like to assume anyone would be disappointed, but it's gonna happen just because of all the current/upcoming speculation which will most likely blind out the tactics we are to expect Nintendo to make a little. A very delicate approach is obviously required. What do you think?

I think the power's good enough. I think all current home console's graphics are good enough, they all have the potential for stunningly beautiful looking games.

@Zuperman
Decided to patch you in here too man, because you make good citing :) Hopefully, because you are absolutely right here (in a non-materialistic world where Pac-Man is the greatest game of all time...that game really is too good for words..), this should become more apparent after launch of WiiU. It will naturally bring everyone's criticism down over time as production values alone will clearly show where the software has had the most work. I will still expect 360 and PS3 games just reaching out to wider audiences come their slow demise to pull in any last funding before their own attempts at next gen.

I wonder what 'new' AAA titles are still yet to emerge on 360 (including Kinect) and PS3...the level of game design is so high now, that to start fresh on new dev kits would seem silly if the momentum is currently peaking. Although I have great faith in WiiU, and it's ability to stream to peripherals, the Wii died in the centre of both the other consoles growing, so I am to expect the WiiU to take longer to build confidence in consumers. Ain't gonna stop me from having it delivered to my door at launch though :)

[Some speculative babble I trust you can forgive me for here]

#40410 I am beginning to wonder...yet would NOT be surprised if it would end up so...

Posted by Marc on 31 October 2011 - 05:22 PM in Wii U Hardware

I hate to sound like a troll/hater, but Kinect's peak was last year. Peak refers to it's prime in sales.

Ahhh, okay well I suppose what I mean is the height of it's capabilities realised. There is nothing to say that the sales of Kinect will rise again with new software. Makes a little more sense now I hope :)

#41040 Known facts

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 09:37 AM in Wii U Hardware

I think the connectivity will be fine, it's not going to use pointer controls so you don't have to be very precise, just basic slow movements.

Not sure what you mean here..what are basic slow movements for?

On another note, I am trying to find out more information in regard to the difficulties the companies are having while developing games that use the Wii U Tablet. So apparently, they are finding it hard to get the connectivity to work at all. This is making progress slow in development. Not too promising, even though its just 'rumour'..?

#41042 Known facts

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 10:12 AM in Wii U Hardware

I would not say thats untrue but would also say that Nintendo give first class support to developers...I would say its the same this time round too.

I wouldn't doubt that either. Interested in finding out the source of this speculation. You heard similar stories right?

#41045 Wii U Must Support An Equivalent of Direct X 11/Open GL 4.2

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 11:15 AM in Wii U Hardware

Wii U will be a snapshot of practical ability in hardware and of new ideas/genre in 2012. This will of course include Direct X.11 and many more wonderful things. I'm sure of it.

#41046 Wii U Wishlist

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 11:18 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Maybe something like "Zoo Resort Wii U" that can have at least 20 zones (instead of just 10) to build for your zoo. There would be at least 300 species of animals to add to, all living and extinct. In addition to 108 species of animals from the 3DS version, it would have the following:

Mammals:

West Indian Manatees
Bottlenose Dolphins
[...]
Short-Nosed Echidnas
Malayan Flying Foxes
Vampire Bats

Total: 79

Birds:

Ducks
Geese
Mute Swans
[...]
Green Peafowls
Whooping Cranes
Stanley Cranes
Sandhill Cranes
Brown Kiwis

Total: 40

Reptiles & Amphibians

Chinese Alligators
Black Caimans
Spectacled Caimans
Nile Crocodiles
[...]..!?!
American Lobsters
Giant Isopods

Total: 34

Extinct:

American Mastodons
Woolly Rhinoceroses
Cave Lions
Cave Bears
Giant Ground Sloths
Glyptodons
Diprotodons
Koala Lemurs
Elephant Birds
Steller's Sea Cows
Blue Bucks
Great Auks
Martinique Musk Rats
Passenger Pigeons
Carolina Parakeets
Pyrenean Ibexes
Baijis

Total: 17

Ummmmm....

#41048 What games would you like to see make an HD remake or revived on the Wii U

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 11:58 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I am probably way too stubborn to give a good example here! I don't think the Wii U will have very many remakes at all..doesn't really give it the innovative and quality 'feel' the console deserves. I like the idea of re-released games for a better cause, or to give the original concept the justice it deserves. A good example is when Resident Evil was remade for Gamecube. Absolutely brilliant. I suppose Mario Sunshine would be cool to see, but more so, the original Metroid Prime. Both really good titles, although Metroid Prime would utilise the controller much more :)

I do want to make a point mind. The possibility of the RTS (Real-Time Strategy) genre returning? Even if it was for the sake of what I would like to see :P Maybe most of you lot here don't remember (or have even heard of) some older RTS game series, like Total Annihilation, Dungeon Keeper, Dune or similar. This was probably just before Command & Conquer. Just for the sake of playing a HD remake of Total Annihilation or Dungeon Keeper using Wii U controller would make me extremely happy! I only figured this would be cool because it hasn't been done before (unrealistic to even start the project maybe!).

Until we hear more about Pikmin 3, all that has been remotely fun to play in the RTS region has been PC based or small app style games! Just not fun, as I do neither of these! Wii U Tab will make it just so much cooler to play RTS! It would only make sense to produce better titles in a series than bring back the old ones, but I do miss the old style RTS sometimes!

#41066 Will Nintendo's image need to change before the release of the Wii U?

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 01:22 PM in General Gaming

Has anyone got any ideas or speculative theories on how Nintendo seem to be managing their own brand image? There is just too much negativity surrounding Nintendo, and what, because they like to brand their business to as many people as possible? I hardly know anyone anymore that appreciates the company like I do. Even my Dad had made a point to me recently saying "You're really faithful to Nintendo aren't you?". I of course had to agree, but it was more of a moment where I noticed my own self belief in the company, and that I actually care a lot about them doing the right thing. I want to play their games for as long as I live! B) :D

They aren't spoken of much at all amongst many students I know or core-gamers, unless someone wants to criticise them. I don't think it is just because there was the lull of the Wii, or poor launch of the 3DS, but something more cultural.

If they want to appeal to a market that is now looking furthermore distant (unreachable even?), as well as newer generation of gamers having no interest, or confidence in the company...what next? Surely they can't assume they will just throw out 3rd Party support similar to what is available on 360 or PS3. A promise of addition 3rd Party support is certainly not a bad step at all, but is only really changing matters once the console is actually launched. Between now and then, some changes need to be made so to make Nintendo worth everyone's attention once more. In years to come I can expect there to be greater acceptance to the company, but I am just not feeling totally comfortable right now with the level of support they seem to have. Doesn't it bother you that people seem to negate their image?

#41075 Wii U is the perfect console!

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 05:02 PM in Wii U Hardware

They will just come out w/another great system.

There is nothing wrong with elaborating a little bit Aaron, I know you ain't been here long fella :)

You mean Nintendo right? Yeah, we would hope. They never really disappoint, but its a new business nowadays. It always is, that is why it matters each time a release is on the horizon. What if this time, they actually did it properly? Not a lot of confidence around, especially since the 3DS launch...

Wish I could have your positive attitude! Have you been keeping yourself up to date with news?

It can get better...

Cool...was all that necessary though? lol :)

You must really like this kind of game! Can't say I've played it, or been much aware tbh!

#41081 Wii U is the perfect console!

Posted by Marc on 06 November 2011 - 06:21 PM in Wii U Hardware

This leads directly to a thread I started over in General Gaming about Nintendo's image. I'm really glad you highlighted the positives, there are many! I hope they perk up the image they so rightly deserve to hold, giving their knowledge in the industry. We all just want to see them do well, and supply us some more of the best, and better. The Big N, haven't heard that in a while ;) Good stuff!

[EDIT]...The old N, i meant to quote. Mind, Big N is what they has been known, and should be known as!

#41101 Wii U Wishlist

Posted by Marc on 07 November 2011 - 01:01 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I want a game for the Wii U that:

  • Is generally non-violent
  • Has graphics on par with the industry's cash-cow FPSs
  • Contains both "natural" looking and "man made" environments
  • Is open world

Sounds very much like Bioshock (we aren't gonna get the new release are we?), or a Fallout release. Why do these seem unlikely? :(

A bigger and better idea may crop up...

#41257 Known facts

Posted by Marc on 08 November 2011 - 01:00 AM in Wii U Hardware

Like waving the controller over the screen.

It sounds like you're suggesting that if the controller was waved around frantically, it will lose the ability to stream video at a decent frame-rate? Isn't that the point in bringing up the connectivity?

#41263 Wii U is the perfect console!

He's abbreviating 'Nintendo' as a company :) Making the point they've been around for a loooong time. Which they have. Legends.

#41266 Zelda 3DS Graphics

Posted by Marc on 08 November 2011 - 06:21 AM in General Gaming

Didn't you notice Feld0 posted his comment a minute before Auzzie? :) You'll work it out lol

I think it is a little unrealistic to imagine that particular story-line produced as 3 separate parts. You should check out the 'split-timeline' theory for The Legend of Zelda to start with. Majora's Mask was released because OoT was so enormously popular, but that was in many respects to merit the game engine to the greatest extent, and realise Miyamoto's concept ideas about having a 'real world' environment recording events, running in real time and set into everyone's own individual game experience. So, altering of the environment and such like.

I know I have seen a link posted by one of the Guides/Mods recently that shows a video to that particular theory for Zelda's timeline, i'll see if I can try to find it here, or on YouTube.

Anyhow, Auzzie just misunderstood you. It sounds weird speaking of 3 consecutive releases on 3DS (two of which would be re-makes) as a trilogy. I just feel it wouldn't happen, but I get that what you mean by saying trilogy is that these 3 releases, would be just that. Three games on the 3DS all happening to have story in common. It is uncertain to whether they will produce a re-make of MM at all. This may be what they are saying; acknowledging the interest, but opting for a completely new game so to satisfy a new audience, and hope to broaden the appeal of the series. It may be a breakthrough title for the LOZ series!

Anyhow, I think they will go for something completely new, and take good advantage of the 3D. It isn't like the 3DS is limited in hardware, like the DS, so we will certainly not see any isometric style gameplay any time soon! Maybe we will see gameplay similar to OoT or MM, but it will be more advanced. Chances are, it will have a stronger appeal (much like TP) and have an art-style that is well suited to the concept. This has been the case for all Zelda games so far.

[EDIT] SDY posted the video in his own thread here.. http://thewiiu.com/topic/1292-ask-sdy/

...and the edit here...
