Virtual Console games were hacked on Wii. They were just like any Wii Channel was, in .wad format.

So the people who got a WiiU/3DS/2DS for xmas won't be able to use them, nice one Nintendo, looks like the last straw to me.One thing getting a 3DS & WiiU has taught me is never to buy another console at launch every again, your loss Nintendo, your loss
Yes, they will and did. Only the eShop is offline.

The eShop is online now, but the servers are still iffy according to the Nintendo Network Status website.
Online play, Miiverse, Nintendo TVii and Wii U Chat are at full force though.

Is it possible to take screenshots from the Wii U Menu? I'm trying to save some to put on Wikipedia, but it doesn't seem possible. Can any of you do it?

Daycare center is probably the most scary areas in all of games, in my opinion... just because it's a daycare.
I didn't like it (too much cliché), aside from the basement section. The bunker was way more scarier imo.

Exactly. This and featured shows on the Wara Wara Plaza would be awesome and quite useful.

Be nice if the Nintendo Direct announced the system update and Miiverse for 3DS. If this is update time, it's about time to release miiverse for 3DS too. They've been saying sometime in 2013, then by end of year... so we are close enough. Since the direct is both a Wii U and 3DS, this would be awesome.
That was delayed until November (according to Rogers).
Fun thing happened today. I left Miiverse opened during the Nintendo Network down time and after a few minutes I looked at the screen I had 999 notifications an then the Wii U crashed. Nice.
Dunno if they would be allowed to, or would want to jump through the copyright hoops for that.
It's back to everything Nintendo doing feeling disconnected from everything else they do.
you have to be inside every game/application they make in order to get anything from it, in this day and age (and like 10 years ago) that isn't the best way to do things.
There shouldn't be too much of a problem. If they can appear on TVii, there shouldn't be a problem putting them on the Wara Wara Plaza (free advertising).
Couldn't agree anymore with you. Nintendo feels so.. off-line. Not internet off-line, but off-line, like disconnected.

http://www.neogaf.co...postcount=10883 - open the link and read the comment... So I mentioned that September/October update could bump clocks and it seems I may have been right after all. Can anyone test the temperature and power consumption...
Wii U's normal power consumption is 30 watts not 40 watts, Neogaf user did not calibrated its watt meter and thanks 3Dude for info...
So please, if you can measure power consumption well then please do it... Also is the fan louder and is the Wii U box hotter or noticeably warmer?
Too bad you aren't.

No, it can't. There is no universal Off-TV Play feature, only a couple of games that support it with different settings and lines of code.
It's all flowers and roses when you offer complete freedom to developers. Or is it? Remember what happened to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection?

I really don't give a sonic rainboom about all of this perceived performance issues/improvements. What I want to now about the next update is this:
When exactly is it coming out? Can we nail it down to a week?
What are the noticeable improvements? (User interface changes, account and file management changes, unanimously agreed-on performance improvements, etc)
Don't worry, it's coming. And surprise! It wasn't delayed (again).
Nintendo announced that there will be extended Nintendo Network server maintenance from September 30 to October 1. This means, you guessed it, the update will arrive between October 2 and 4. Yay!
http://www.nintendo....work_status.jsp
Emily Rogers also confirmed this in her twitter account saying that the "Wii U firmware update is sooner than you think".
https://twitter.com/Emi1yRogers
Now, this updated will obviously bring performance improvements, but that's just for the OS and system apps such as Miiverse, Nintendo eShop, etc. It won't affect game performance whatsoever, just as previous updates never did. So, don't get your hopes up for anything "earth-shattering". We're getting exactly what we were promised back in January.

The OS will be faster (don't know how much by) and Nintendo TVii for Europe maybe?
Well, Nintendo did say that Nintendo TVii will be coming to Europe in 2013, so there's a possibility that could happen. But it'll probably delayed to 2014.

The only thing I really need is an update so the disc does not spin constantly regardless of being in use or not. As a side bonus I would like the option to install games on the USB memory to cut down loading times.

[UPDATE] - Moved requests to the first post. It will be updated as more requests come in. Thank you ![]()
Btw guys. Not sure if this is a (dumb)question for this topic but:
Is it possible Nintendo could update Wii mode and let the Wii games render at 720p/1080p in a way?
Or is it just not possible because of the hardware, etc?
Well, I wouldn't say it's impossible.. but to do so would require Nintendo to develop a variant of an emulator and it would also require Wii code to go through Wii U Mode, which is exactly what Nintendo wants to avoid. Doing so, it would open a huge gate for homebrew developement in Wii U Mode which unfortunately leads to piracy.
So no, it's not technacly impossible but I doubt Nintendo would develop such a feature, which is a shame really. But hey, at least we know it's not Nintendo's fault.. so we have that ![]()

The console already has achievements, and a place for you to post about it to everyone else who owns the console, miiverse.
I think what everyone really wants is a unified achivement system, which is defenitely not what we have right now.
Sharing accomplishments on Miiverse is fun and all, but a unfied system, ala Trophies/Achivements, would be much welcome in the community.
Even the StreetPass Plaza on 3DS has achievements, but what's the point if it's only that game and you can't share it with anyone?

I really doubt that, as the top speed for USB 2.0 is 480mb/s.
USB 2.0 clock speed is 480 megabits per second. That's 60 megabytes per second. Given the protocol overhead and the fact that USB 2.0 is half-duplex, the maximum data rate will be 30-40 megabytes per second at best. The 480 megabits per second limit applies to the USB controller and is shared between the ports attached to it. The number of USB controllers per motherboard will vary, but we know that the Wii U has two, which would roughly give us 25-30 megabytes per second, ceteris paribus.

If a Wii U game disc is being read at 22 MB/s ...
and a USB drive containing the same game is on a USB hard drive ...
Why would half duplex matter?
Is my Wii U re-writing my Discs all the time?! OH MY GOOOODDDDDDD
Either way, on average, USB HDD have a 30 MB/s read spead, while SATA II gives 60 MB/s.
30 to 22.5 MB/s is too close to even bother to install the game in the first place.

I am sorry that I can't stop you from going full r*****, if that was wishful thinking then there would not be droves of people of forums claiming that after OS update that their games had no stuttering and/or frame drops eg more consistent frames. You most likely did not noticed, you are probably only a few or never owned couple of games like that had issues with frame rate and got resolved after OS update.
Game performance can be affected by OS, don't be in denial you tech illiterates.
Like Goodtwin said, the OS during games is really just a kernel. Either the was a complete a disaster before the update (which is definitely not true) or the "more consistent frames" are just wishful thinking. I'm sorry, but that's the truth.
I own both Zombi U and AC, which were both "reported" to have better frame rates after the update. Did you know what I noticed after the update? Nothing. And believe when I say I have a good eye for these things. I'm more of an "fps whore" rather than a "graphics whore", per se.
Just one last thing. Insulting other writers isn't going to make it true.

Why do you need source, if you own a Wii U then you should have experienced that hands on... Many people noted that games load faster and ran better.
I'm sorry, I call that fanboy BS. I own a Wii U since day one and I can confirm that that's just wishful thinking.

Source?Eye_Of-Core, on 27 Sept 2013 - 12:06 PM, said: OS is most likely the problem, do you seriously think that Wii U's OS is not the problem I mean when it was updated then games were less laggy and had less frame drops and more stable frame rate.

I did some research, released it this forum and will most likely make a new thread with updated information's.
Evidence points out that Nintendo is going to allow/unlock shaders on the Wii U that were detectable in Wii mode via hacks, eg currently 3rd party developers can access 320 SPU's that has 352Gflops performance while the September/October update should give full usage to 960 SPU's and 1056Gflops or 1.05Tflops of performance and maybe push Wii U's power consumption higher eg from 40 watts to 70 watts if 40 watts power consumption was w/ shaders that were all active or inactive if inactive then we can expect higher power consumption.
About Wii U's storage, it has flash based that is twice to two and a half times faster than USB 2.0 or HDD's inside Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
At least with Wii U you can have good old school way of playing your games, put a dvd in and play without installs.
So now Nintendo can unlock something that doesn't even exist? Priceless.

According to Nintendo, the long-awaited Summer Wii U Update has been delayed and is now set to arrive in Fall 2013, somewhere between "the end of September and beginning of October". Since Nintendo has been working on this major system update since at least April (when we got the last major update) and given the recent 1-2 month delay, it's safe to say that we'll be ending up getting much more than just the regular loading time boosts.
[UPDATE] - Nintendo announced that there will be extended Nintendo Network server maintenance from September 30 to October 1. This means, you guessed it, the update will arrive between October 2 and 4. Yay!
http://www.nintendo....work_status.jsp
So I've been around many forums and have seen a lot about this in the Miiverse.. and I think I finally managed to get everyone's (realistic) wishlist in one place only. Feel free to make your own requests. ![]()
