#106170 The Crap That GameStop Gives Me (and Other People)

Posted by Deadly Virus on 11 September 2012 - 02:18 PM in General Gaming

Sounds like a rather sly business tactic to me. Maybe this is also why some stores are denying there'll be a midnight launch, so they can get more preorders beforehand.

#105968 Nintendo confirms Wii U to be Showcased in "Final Form" this Thursday

Posted by Deadly Virus on 10 September 2012 - 10:19 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm trying desperately not to get myself hyped for this just so I don't get disappointed, but I can't help it when Nintendo says crap like this.

Sounds like it'll be more interesting than E3 anyway. Hope there's a livestream. ;)

#104953 ubisoft rayman dev wiiu loads of ram 1080p and 48op controller @ same time

Posted by Deadly Virus on 07 September 2012 - 04:18 AM in Wii U Hardware

Hes also not a rube.

Even just with 2d, he knows enough to be unsure if it can support what he wants to do with bge2.

If the machine had a n64-cube or ps2-ps3 power leap, that wouldn't be the case.

of course, all infos pointing to no consoles making that leap this gen.... Though Nintendo seems to be the most modest leap over ps3/360.

Not that it matters anymore. Visuals this gen is going to be won by art, not horsepower, and nintendo has some of the best in the business, and they know they have a lot to prove.

The wii u isn't a huge magnitude over ps360, but its enough to notice already, for people like me.

Zombi u, p-100, pikmin 3, and ironically nintendo land showcase things outside the capabilities of last gen. But all most people look at are shortcomings from production values/priorities, or minimalistic art direction, and attribute them to system power.

Nintendos heavy hitters are about to be shown, ones that were pulled from e3 for the sake of first impressions from a fickle, ignorant and verbal minority.

Its going to impress. Its going to be interesting to see how different people, with different preconcieved mindsets handle it.

Weren't there leaked screenshots of BG&E2 recently, that actually looked like a pretty low quality PS360 game?

Sure, it's probably in alpha or beta right now and textures/effects and such aren't finalized, but I don't know if the game is really going to be that much of a jump from last-gen that the Wii U would be utterly incapable of handling it. To be honest I haven't seen any game that claims to be "next-gen" yet that doesn't look like something the Wii U could do. No one's made a quantum leap yet.

#104362 I think I just found out the Wii U Launch info?

Posted by Deadly Virus on 04 September 2012 - 01:53 PM in Wii U Hardware

Never trust store managers when it comes to video games... Especially not Gamestop. I mean, not near Black Friday, but on it? Sounds like an absolutely hellish launch day to me...

The games he mentioned don't sound too far fetched though. I don't want to get my hopes up, but there's been a lot of rumours regarding new third party titles for Wii U recently and I can't help but think at least some of them will be unveiled on the 13th. ^_^

#104352 Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Officially Shown Off

Posted by Deadly Virus on 04 September 2012 - 01:41 PM in General Gaming

I am sticking with the hope that this will undoubtedly come for the WiiU. It is a perfect fit for the system. And would boost sales like no tomorrow.

Remember that map thing Big Boss pulled out in the trailer? I already see that as being utilized by the WiiU Gamepad. He pulls it out and then your Gamepad turns into that exact device. Plus the Gamepad could be used for aiming sniper rifles and the like, similar to the way ZombiU uses the Gamepad.

OMG, I'm so hai-pee for this game.

My only concern is with how the Wii U gamepad will feel when playing an MGS game... The Dualshock just feels so natural for it. It's light, and feels really agile for a stealth game. Something as bulky as the Wii U pad seems like it'd be a bit awkward, but I guess I'll wait until I get my hands on it first.

#104094 "Dark Witch" Fantasy Medieval RPG in development for WiiU/PC/MAC

Posted by Deadly Virus on 03 September 2012 - 12:03 PM in Wii U Games and Software

PC/Mac and Wii U? Hmm, this one might actually try to capitalize on the newer hardware.. Maybe even next-gen level graphics if we're lucky. ;)

#103786 Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Officially Shown Off

Posted by Deadly Virus on 01 September 2012 - 06:52 PM in General Gaming

when did it state what consoles it will come to
and also i doubt it will come to the pc because im pretty sure the last mgs pc game was the first mgs game

At the end of the trailer after the little credits bit, there's logos for PS3, Xbox 360, PSN and Xbox Live.

Also I'm almost certain that a PC version is at least being considered, Kojima Productions was openly recruiting staff "experienced in PC development" back at GDC '12 for a new MGS game. They wouldn't be doing that for nothing.

#103778 Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes Officially Shown Off

Posted by Deadly Virus on 01 September 2012 - 06:14 PM in General Gaming

My estimate is that they're planning a release on PS3 and 360 as the trailer stated, but also on PC and as a next-gen launch title. A Wii U version is possible, but I find it much more likely that Kojipro/Konami will want to capitalize on the launch of either PS4, Xbox 720 or both in late 2013 by having MGS:GZ as a launch title. The PS360 version will very probably be toned down to some degree, and run at lower resolution and framerate.

Also, anyone else think the kid in the cage looks very eerily like a young Solid Snake? :o

#103740 MGS: Ground Zero and MGS Movie announced!

Posted by Deadly Virus on 01 September 2012 - 02:28 PM in General Gaming

Protagonist appears to be an old Big Boss. From that we can tell that the game takes place a few years before Metal Gear 1, as was expected. Not much else can be deduced from this since it's all in Japanese though..

At the end the logos confirm it will be a PS3 and 360 game. Hopefully PC and Wii U versions get announced somewhere down the line, I'm so hyped for this. :o

#103421 First Nintendo Power, Now Nintendo Gamer

Posted by Deadly Virus on 31 August 2012 - 03:31 AM in General Gaming

This is actually making me worried now. If ONM UK goes down, I'll be a very very sad man. :(

#103413 MGS: Ground Zeroes for the Wii U?

Posted by Deadly Virus on 31 August 2012 - 03:01 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It possibly could. Kojima doesn't seem to be too fond of putting MGS games on Nintendo systems though. Twin Snakes is the only major one I can recall, and that was co-developed by a Nintendo studio at the time. We'll wait and see though.

#103278 MGS: Ground Zero and MGS Movie announced!

Posted by Deadly Virus on 30 August 2012 - 02:37 PM in General Gaming

i believe it's MGS: "Ground Zeroes" with an 's' at the end.

Yeah, there's been a lot of debate over this. It's also been unconfirmed yet whether the game is actually titled Metal Gear Solid 5, or if they've just dropped the numbering system. I guess we need to wait for an official trailer first. Maybe at TGS? :D

According to reports from attendees, Konami showed a brief demo of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero. The game will allegedly be an open-world title that runs on Kojima Productions’ FOX Engine. Snippets of footage showed Snake avoiding searchlights, riding a jeep, and calling a helicopter in for evacuation.

Supposedly it's a next-gen game, and the demo was run on high end PC hardware. The above picture is real time footage from the game that's running on Kojima's new FOX Engine.

In addition to this, a MGS movie was officially confirmed for the second time, this time with a different director. Hopefully this one will actually be finished, since I still think it sounds like an awesome idea.

Sony has officially announced that they will be bringing Konami’s hit videogame franchise Metal Gear Solid to the big screen. Deja Vu? Yes, I did write this exact storyin February 2007, but producer Michael De Luca never got it off the ground. This time the announcement was made to video game fans attending the Metal Gear Anniversary event in Tokyo. Banners on display read “Metal Gear Solid Hollywood Movie”, and featured the Columbia Pictures logo.
Hideo Kojima confirmed a new Metal Gear Solid movie project is in the works during the presentation, this time with Spider-man producer Avi Arad on board. Arad spoke to the audience, saying that he struggled for years to bring comics to the silver screen and that ”video games are the comic books of today.” Kotaku quotes Arad as saying that they “will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, cautionary tales needed.”

#102572 How do you want Zelda Wii U to be storywise?

Posted by Deadly Virus on 27 August 2012 - 04:38 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I agree that it should be a more dark, deep and even mature game. In particular I really really want Zelda Wii U to have full voice acting, for every character except Link of course. It would make the story so much more fun and immersive I think. The game's universe itself I think should be dark, but not necessarily depressing. More "creepy dark", leaning towards MM, with a bit of the "epic dark" of OOT/TP mixed in there. If you know what I mean. :P

#102488 Wii U A and B controls

Posted by Deadly Virus on 27 August 2012 - 07:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

Some 3DS/DS games do this too. Seems stupid to me, I think some devs are just too lazy to swap the controls for A and B around and think that the bottom-most button must always equal A.

#102058 No online multiplayer for anything

Posted by Deadly Virus on 25 August 2012 - 10:02 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Honestly I don't see any reason whatsoever for ZombiU, NSMBU, and Pikmin 3 not having online multiplayer functions. Especially when they're all going to have some form of local multiplayer available. I still think Nintendo is playing it far, far too safe with the Wii U. We have a proper online infrastructure now, so first party titles really should be adapting to that.

#101496 Microsoft changes their logo after 25 years

Posted by Deadly Virus on 23 August 2012 - 10:01 AM in The Café

Eh, looks pretty bland. I always feel like Microsoft is trying far, far too much to be like Apple these days, and the new logo really reflects that.

#101426 How the Subspace Emissary Started: Part 1: Mario

Posted by Deadly Virus on 23 August 2012 - 12:33 AM in General Gaming

You should try and fit the Donkey Kong Country games and DK64 in there. I always like to think that the Mario and DK universes are one in the same, since they connect with eachother so often. :o

#101320 Is this real? wii u on 2013? NOO :(

Posted by Deadly Virus on 22 August 2012 - 03:00 PM in Wii U Hardware

He didn't say it was factual, he's just doing some form of industry analysis, and a rather poor job of it at that to be honest...

Nintendo would be insane to delay the Wii U to 2013. AC3, Black Ops 2, FIFA and all these games will be releasing around the expected Wii U launch of November, if it was to be pushed back to 2013 then I really doubt anyone would wait to buy the Wii U versions of said games. Not to mention Darksiders 2 and Batman Arkham City which are already arriving horribly late on the Wii U, 2013 would pretty much kill those two titles' success.

#101079 Nintendo Power Magazine to End After 24 Years (May Continue Digitally)

Posted by Deadly Virus on 21 August 2012 - 03:21 PM in General Gaming

Oh god, they have the same publishing company as ONM UK... Hope this doesn't affect anything over here. :(

#100335 I want Zelda U to have motion controls

Posted by Deadly Virus on 17 August 2012 - 04:47 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I'd like to see them make a return, but if possible, a gamepad mode would be awesome too. But I'm not sure if it'd be possible to have both with all the complexity that went into Skyward Sword's controls.

#100238 {2days} 3DS XL COUNTDOWN

Already had mine for a good few weeks now. Yay Europe! :P

#100039 Rumor:Nintendo's Achievements/Trophies name announced as Wii U" Accom...

Posted by Deadly Virus on 16 August 2012 - 04:22 AM in Wii U Hardware

Sounds awesome. Achievements are always fun IMO. Plus pretty much every online service, even on the PC, has some form of achievement system now, Nintendo Network would feel a bit empty without them.

#99894 Is this developer speaking for the industry as a whole?

Posted by Deadly Virus on 15 August 2012 - 09:20 AM in Wii U Hardware

This is unfortunately the mindset of a lot of gamers today. And, by nature, developers are also 90% of the time gamers.

I'd like to see these people go up against Sony or Microsoft with the same criticisms they provide against Nintendo. Because really, Microsoft has delved far deeper into the casual market than Nintendo could have ever dreamed of while not even getting half of the violent bashing they do for much lesser reasons.

The fact is, if Nintendo charged for a P2P online service, made a console addon as poor and with as few good games as the Kinect, while spending three E3s in a row promoting dance games and virtual Disneylands, they would have been run out of the video game industry years ago.
