#60866 Hello

Posted by Hoodbury on 10 February 2012 - 02:42 PM in Introduction Central

Hi,

Been lurking this site since it started and figured I might as well register finally.

I've been going by the online name of Hoodbury for a short while now (2008ish probably), it was my alts name in Lord of the Rings Online and then I chose to use it over my more LOTRish name my 'main' used. So Hoodbury has stuck and seems to be a universal name that works for different games and genres.

I'm 29 years old and have been gaming on Nintendo consoles from the NES in 1987 and every console since. I skipped the handheld market for the most part but I do have a 3DS now and am really impressed by it and enjoy it a lot.

I just sold my Wii last week along with all of it's games to start my Wii-U fund, so now I am consoleless until the Wii-U comes out. So basically, I am hoping for a sooner rather than later release date, heh. Until then though, the 3DS will keep me busy.

I had a lot of fun on the Wii, but as time went on, I started to get a bit more and more upset that it wasn't getting 3rd party support. Call me the most crazy Nintendo fan you've met, but I kind of grew away from Mario and Zelda. Most of my Wii gametime was from the Call of Duty games and Monster Hunter.

I tried a PS3 at a friends house a few years ago, and I just couldn't handle dual analog sticks anymore. I actually really like the control and feeling of the Wiimote and nunchuck even for Call of Duty and Monster Hunter. So even though the new tablet controller looks cool and spiffy, I might just end up using the Wiimote and chuck more often than not if possible.

I guess that's me in a nutshell. Can't wait for e3 and for the console to actually release like the rest of you.

#61957 RUMOR - Ubisoft's 2012 game lineup (Assassin's Creed 3 on Wii U)

Posted by Hoodbury on 16 February 2012 - 10:50 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I just saw some videos of Far Cry 3 over at IGN and I would really like to see that come to the Wii-U. I've never played a Far Cry game before but always wanted to, just never had the hardware.

#63035 Call of Duty

Posted by Hoodbury on 22 February 2012 - 08:49 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I was a big CoD player on the Wii as well; and similar to you, I just want to be able to use my Wiimote and chuck still.

But for the new controller there are plenty of ideas I suppose
- Kill streaks is the main one of course I would assume. It's perfect for a top down view for a lot of the air support kill streaks. Or for remote control of things like sentry guns and RC car type kill streaks could use the gyro controls.
- I'm not a fan of video of the players reaction due to the immaturaty of the world :P, but it could be used for using your face as your player if that's something you would like to do. So that would be more the camera than the video camera.
- The HUD could go on the controller screen leaving the TV less cluttered and more cinematic looking.
- The menu could be brought up during the game on the controller making it so you can switch classes while still viewing the game. You could even edit classes right from there during the lobby view.
- Constant scoreboard could display on the controller screen so you don't have to bring it up on the TV and ruin your view.
- Stats/Achievements could display down on the controller either during a game or in the lobby.
- You could have the map display on the controller and then using touch, you could mark on your map where the enemy is or where you want your squad to focus on and your markings would also display on their maps. Could do a lot of team work type of things using the touch screen.
- Similar to the Tokyo street tech demo thing, you could use the controller's gyro capabilities to look around for spy planes and other air support to shoot down with your rockets.

But most of all, I just want the full version of the game for us Nintendo folk and to be able to use my Wii-mote/nun chuck still.

#63274 RUMOR: CryEngine 3 on Wii U at GDC

Posted by Hoodbury on 24 February 2012 - 07:36 AM in Wii U Hardware

I thought we were hoping for CryEngine 4 for the Wii-U? But if this rumor is true, I'm sure it'll look great too.

#64910 Assassin's Creed 3 |OT| sweet tomahawk

Posted by Hoodbury on 05 March 2012 - 12:20 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I've never played an AC game before but they always intreagued me. And since I've always only had Nintendo consoles I've never had the chance so this will probably be a launch day purchase for me.

Since I've never played one before can someone answer this, is this an open ended game? Or is the single player a linear start and end type of game?

And also this question: there will be multiplayer correct?

#66219 When do you think the Wii U will Launch?

Posted by Hoodbury on 14 March 2012 - 06:10 AM in Wii U Hardware

I think September for Japan and either October or early November for US/Europe sounds reasonable. Of course I'd prefer earlier but that seems to be a bit too much dreaming.

What I really hope though is that there isn't supply problems like the Wii had. I want to get it at launch but I don't want to have to camp out at a store for 14 hours to get one.

#66253 Haven't heard from EA in awhile

Posted by Hoodbury on 14 March 2012 - 10:12 AM in General Gaming

Is it just me or has EA been kinda quiet lately in regards to praising or even talking about the Wii-U?

Earlier, they were one of the top supporters of it and praising it left and right. Every week it seemed there was another article about EA talking Wii-U this and Wii-U that.

Conspiricy time: I wonder if Nintendo decided not to use Origin exclusively or something like that and it upset EA a bit?

Anyone else notice this? Or did I maybe just miss some news? GDC, we just heard that the Medal of Honor game would be released on Wii-U right? But they didn't hype it or talk specific about the Wii-U version right?

#66258 Haven't heard from EA in awhile

Posted by Hoodbury on 14 March 2012 - 10:38 AM in General Gaming

I have noticed that EA has been quite lately, but, just as the poster above me noted, Nintendo is probably making sure people stay quite, as we are getting ever so closer to E3.

I agree, I was just curious if anyone else noticed this. It's kinda funny, EA got all quiet, but now it's like we are hearing a ton from EPIC all of sudden.

#66269 Did this guy leak GTA V being on wii u?

Posted by Hoodbury on 14 March 2012 - 11:33 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Lets hope so. GTA would be a huge boost for post launch window for Wii-U. But I guess I already thought it was confirmed we would get it?

#66515 Posting comments on Wii U Go

Posted by Hoodbury on 16 March 2012 - 06:01 AM in Site News and Feedback

Whenever I try to post a comment on one of the articles on the home page(Wii-U Go) it never shows up.  I tried posting it again and I get a message that says something like "Looks like you already posted this same message".  But it never appears.

#66529 possibilities of $50 loss on every wii u.

Posted by Hoodbury on 16 March 2012 - 08:14 AM in Wii U Hardware

http://www.computera...u-ray-nintendo/

Wii U won't use Blu-Ray.

I'm not sure why Nollog is still trying to explain it when the article Terrabyte20 posted says specifically that it doesn't use a Blue-Ray player. Just read the article, it's a direct quote from Reggie.

#67556 Darksiders 2 interview comment about the Wii U hardware

Posted by Hoodbury on 23 March 2012 - 11:21 AM in Wii U Hardware

PS4 and NextBox won't up the resolution, but if they up the RAM amount to be much higher than the Wii-U then that could make for another Wii scenario where the Wii-U won't be able to get the same multi Plat games as those two due to not being up to power.

If developers are going to start making games with higher poly counts and more moving pieces that the Wii-U wouldn't be able to handle, then we won't get those ports.

The Wii-U just has to be strong enough, it doesn't have to be as strong as the other two.

#69062 Game Informer Tease A Gorgeous New Game For Their Next Issue

Posted by Hoodbury on 02 April 2012 - 10:07 AM in General Gaming

Unless it's Zelda, Game Informer doesn't really acknowledge Nintendo. Somehow I doubt this tease is Wii-U related.

#69436 Wii u the Next-Gen Bridge

Posted by Hoodbury on 04 April 2012 - 10:11 AM in Wii U Hardware

Here's another Gearbox quote that confuses me:
"He also specifies that Aliens: Colonial Marines will make use of the deferred rendering engine on PS3, 360, and PC. The Wii U version presumably won't use it."

Here's a link to the article.
http://games.ign.com/articles/122/1222270p1.html

Basically he's saying Aliens is already using 'next-gen' stuff in the current gen hardware. This "deferred rendering" stuff. But why would the Wii-U not use it if he was praising it as the next cool thing?

#72722 Wii U news incoming

Posted by Hoodbury on 17 April 2012 - 07:40 AM in Wii U Hardware

I have no problem believing you and this is great news.

The only thing I question is the context of when other people say "Next Gen". When we've heard from developers in the past about the Wii-U's graphical abilities they always say something like "yes it's a true next gen system, it looks very much as good as the PS360".

So to me, a lot of people who aren't as 'die hard' about this system as a lot of us here are, still kinda refer to PS360 graphics as next gen. Especially when talking about Nintendo, they think that since the Wii was still SD and now the Wii-U is going HD, that they just refer to it as Next-Gen when saying it can do what the PS360 can do.

What I'm trying to get at, is does your friend understand when we refer to things as "Next-Gen" that we are talking about not comparing it to PS360, but past that?

#72733 A new string of UNCONFIRMED Wii U rumours

Posted by Hoodbury on 17 April 2012 - 09:18 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Blizzard and D3 means Diablo 3? If true that would be huge news if that game comes to Nintendo.

#72737 CoD Black Ops 2

Posted by Hoodbury on 17 April 2012 - 09:27 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm looking forward to it as well. I enjoyed the CoD games on the Wii but hated the fact that hackers ruined the experience of them. Hopefully with the Wii-U and the stronger online Nintendo says it is creating for the system, hackers and glitchers won't be an issue this time around.

BTW, where did you hear that the NDA is being lifted again?

#72932 Paul Gale Network: Good Times Are Coming!

Posted by Hoodbury on 18 April 2012 - 07:55 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I guess to me, announcing you have an announcement isn't that exciting and I kinda hate it when 'journalists' do it.

Here, I'll make one too and you guys let me know if you're excited for my big announcement and I'll even give you an exact date unlike this Paul guy: I have really big and exciting news to tell you guys about the Wii-U and I'll tell you it on June 6th.

#72968 Paul Gale Network: Good Times Are Coming!

Posted by Hoodbury on 18 April 2012 - 10:21 AM in Wii U Games and Software

My mind instantly jumps to SSB4 whenever I see "Wii U/3DS cross platform", but it has to be something bigger than that since SSB4 has already been confirmed. Whatever it is, I hope we hear soon.

I'm with you, SSB4 is already confirmed for the cross platform so it's gotta be something else. We already got news Monster Hunter 4 is coming to the 3DS, perhaps the Wii-U will get it too and it'll have cross platform functionality? That would definitely be my dream come true.

A-ha! Now we fight to the death. ;)

Bring it! You're still a young whipper snapper in their 20's to me. While I'm an old, tough, wiley veteran in my 30's.

#74453 Nintendo Power Teases Exciting Announcement

Posted by Hoodbury on 24 April 2012 - 01:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

For some reason the upper right corner of the red thing really makes me think of Starfox. So my guess it'll be Starfox related. At least that's the vibe I am getting from it.

#76361 Nintendo Needs A Halo

Posted by Hoodbury on 01 May 2012 - 10:31 AM in Wii U Games and Software

If you want to attract the Halo/CoD fans you need these things in my opinion:
  • Competitive multiplayer
    • Online leaderboards - and not just W/L ratio and K/D ratio. Needs expansive leaderboards that track many attributes.
    • Stat tracking of every thing you can think of
    • Smooth gameplay and framerates while playing online
    • Voice chat (which should be a given in today's online gaming age)
    • Easy to use friend lists and jump in jump out functionality to play with them
    • More gamemodes than the basic TDM and Free for all that a lot of CoD imitators only seem to add.
    • Plenty of maps to keep things fresh
    • Balance - it really sucks when 1 gun is found to be overly powerful compared to the others and then everyone just uses the same gun/setup.
    • Feed the grinder mechanics, ie. - a slow grind with tiny carrots sprinkled for the player to achieve
  • Realistic Graphics
  • Single Player campaign with some mature themes.
  • Some type of 3rd gamemode. Something like zombies or a horde mode. Something else to do when you need a break from multiplayer and have beaten the single player campaign.
Remember, this isn't technically what I'm saying would make the greatest game ever, just what I think a game would need to attract the CoD/Halo gamer to the Nintendo Wii U.

#76393 Nintendo Facing Limits For Wii U Launch

Posted by Hoodbury on 01 May 2012 - 01:17 PM in Wii U Hardware

The limits he's talking about are for first party software only. This is why they need 3rd party support. And from what we've heard so far, it seems pretty decent for the 3rd party software that's going to be available in the launch window.

I hardly think anybody out there is expecting a magnitude of 1st party software available at launch. They just can't repeat what they did with the 3DS launch where none of the 1st party software was a system seller and all/mostly all of the 3rd party launch software was shovelware.

#76408 Iwata: Wii U/3DS will cater to core gamers first, mass market second

Posted by Hoodbury on 01 May 2012 - 01:42 PM in Wii U Hardware

Meelow100 = Kinglink13?

As a 3DS owner, I'd say he is speaking the truth. I've felt the games for the 3ds are pretty "core'ish" so far. And from the sounds of at least the 3rd party software coming up for Wii-U it sounds true for the Wii-U as well to me. I'm looking forward to it.
