#84996 Won't hear from Retro for awhile - per IGN article

Posted by Hoodbury on 06 June 2012 - 12:00 PM in Wii U Games and Software

He did ask that:

IGN: Okay, cool. I think, looking back at the core gamers once again, they have an Xbox 360 or a PS3. And then all indications are that Microsoft and Sony are about to bring their next consoles in within the next year or two. What are your thoughts about how Wii U will compete? Not only with the existing platforms, but the ones that are just around the corner?

Fils-Aime: We're about to launch a tremendously powerful system. A system that pushes out great graphics, a system that has an opportunity to do a lot of things. What I've heard the fan community say is, I want my Mario, I want my Zelda, and I want the best of third-party. And that's what we're looking to bring to consumers.
I think in the end, the consumer choice is going to be... Once I buy my Wii U, that satisfies my Nintendo cravings and my cravings for all of these other great multi-platform franchises, then what is the role of a competitive platform? It's going to have to live on the backs of some sort of unique proposition, or unique content. And to me that's the million-dollar question. Of our potential competitors down the road, who's going to have that compelling content that's going to say, hey, now I need to branch out and pick up this additional system? I think it's for them to answer.

#84988 Won't hear from Retro for awhile - per IGN article

Posted by Hoodbury on 06 June 2012 - 11:43 AM in Wii U Games and Software

IGN Article

Rich interviewed Reggie and asked about Retro and basically said they are working hard but won't hear anything from them for awhile.

The rest of the interview is pretty good too. Helped a bit of my current dissappointement of E3 and Nintendo.

He confirms there won't be a lot of 3rd party support from Western developers until there is a bit of an install base with the system, he said that's just how they work.

#87364 Will you wait for the black wii u if its not available on day one?

Posted by Hoodbury on 13 June 2012 - 10:30 AM in Wii U Hardware

This gives a little hope at least, but Best Buy has a SKU for both the black and white Wii-U models listed already: Best Buy Wii U listing page

And even better, the Black model actually has a real model number while the White model just has "WII U TEST SKU"

#69436 Wii u the Next-Gen Bridge

Posted by Hoodbury on 04 April 2012 - 10:11 AM in Wii U Hardware

Here's another Gearbox quote that confuses me:
"He also specifies that Aliens: Colonial Marines will make use of the deferred rendering engine on PS3, 360, and PC. The Wii U version presumably won't use it."

Here's a link to the article.
http://games.ign.com/articles/122/1222270p1.html

Basically he's saying Aliens is already using 'next-gen' stuff in the current gen hardware. This "deferred rendering" stuff. But why would the Wii-U not use it if he was praising it as the next cool thing?

#72722 Wii U news incoming

Posted by Hoodbury on 17 April 2012 - 07:40 AM in Wii U Hardware

I have no problem believing you and this is great news.

The only thing I question is the context of when other people say "Next Gen". When we've heard from developers in the past about the Wii-U's graphical abilities they always say something like "yes it's a true next gen system, it looks very much as good as the PS360".

So to me, a lot of people who aren't as 'die hard' about this system as a lot of us here are, still kinda refer to PS360 graphics as next gen. Especially when talking about Nintendo, they think that since the Wii was still SD and now the Wii-U is going HD, that they just refer to it as Next-Gen when saying it can do what the PS360 can do.

What I'm trying to get at, is does your friend understand when we refer to things as "Next-Gen" that we are talking about not comparing it to PS360, but past that?

#78980 Wii U console redesign will be shown at E3 2012- IdeaMan

Posted by Hoodbury on 18 May 2012 - 10:39 AM in Wii U Hardware

Blocky is coming back. It's just like clothing styles, music, decorations, kitchen styles, etc, things go out of style then come back a couple decades later.

Look at newer car models compared to ones 5-10 years old. Blocky is coming back and roundish is going away. 10 years ago it was all about how round can you make it, think about mazda miata's, dodge stratus, ford taurus. They were all smooth ovals. Now look at the new Catelacs, the new ford taurus, etc. They have defined lines, angles, corners.

It's a stylish blocky though, and I kinda like it actually.

#66219 When do you think the Wii U will Launch?

Posted by Hoodbury on 14 March 2012 - 06:10 AM in Wii U Hardware

I think September for Japan and either October or early November for US/Europe sounds reasonable. Of course I'd prefer earlier but that seems to be a bit too much dreaming.

What I really hope though is that there isn't supply problems like the Wii had. I want to get it at launch but I don't want to have to camp out at a store for 14 hours to get one.

#87897 Ubisoft won E3!

Posted by Hoodbury on 15 June 2012 - 01:50 PM in General Gaming

And Miyamoto trolled the audience by pretending to throw his Pikmin doll...that absolutely gave the audience a hear attack...and that was freakin' awesome! A

LoL, what was up with that? Did he mean to really throw it but it got stuck on something? That was just odd.

Ubi's was by far the best. The rest were equally bad for the following reasons:
Sony: Way too much time on Wonderbook. That should have been a 5 minute intro, not a 20 minute demonstration that was littered with technical problems. The 15 minutes they could have saved should have been on the Vita and trying to breath some life into that poor system.
Microsoft: Um ya, not much can save them at e3, they just are bad all the time at this conference.
EA: I didn't watch the whole thing but it was pretty dull. Nothing new as far as I can tell.

and Nintendo: The hype we all had was not our fault in my opinion, it was them that hyped us up and then let us down. Their secrecy for the last year was suppose to be because e3 would be their huge explosion of new news but nothing was new news except Nintendo land. The little info we got from them in the last year was that they would try to get the core gamer back and would focus on them first and then expand to the casual audiance. But most of the presentation was casual software. I'm sure Nintendo Land will be oodles of fun for a lot of people, but it isn't something that should have been the main attraction in my opinion. There's so much more but it's all been discussed to death by now so ya, no point in writing another editorial on it.

#77421 Shocking

Posted by Hoodbury on 08 May 2012 - 07:38 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'll say the same as the TC. Diablo 3 would be shocking but an awesome 3rd party pick-up that would show a lot of people Nintendo is serious about getting back to core gaming.

#80602 Rumor: Wii U Final Development Kits Recieved by Developers

Posted by Hoodbury on 25 May 2012 - 07:26 AM in Wii U Hardware

Old news right?

The 'source' article was just posted this morning. In the article it does say that the dev kits were distributed earlier this month though. So depends on how you look at it. If you heard an earlier rumor that they got the mass production dev kits then this might be old news to you. But the article itself is new.

To me, this is the first I've heard that these are the final dev kits. I thought the last rumor was that they got version 5 kits. And who knows, maybe those are the same thing. But this is the first I've heard that they are now doing mass production.

#79112 RUMOR: Retro's New Game to be "Star Fox – Metroid: Fusion Saga"

Posted by Hoodbury on 19 May 2012 - 07:22 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I was personally hoping they'd have a game that would compete more with the big Online multiplayer games that are out there.

#85372 Rumor: Nintendo to hold "Summer Conference", Tons of third party'...

Posted by Hoodbury on 07 June 2012 - 01:20 PM in Wii U Hardware

I just hope this doesn't mean they will go dark again without any updates until this 'summer conference'.

#63274 RUMOR: CryEngine 3 on Wii U at GDC

Posted by Hoodbury on 24 February 2012 - 07:36 AM in Wii U Hardware

I thought we were hoping for CryEngine 4 for the Wii-U? But if this rumor is true, I'm sure it'll look great too.

#61957 RUMOR - Ubisoft's 2012 game lineup (Assassin's Creed 3 on Wii U)

Posted by Hoodbury on 16 February 2012 - 10:50 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I just saw some videos of Far Cry 3 over at IGN and I would really like to see that come to the Wii-U. I've never played a Far Cry game before but always wanted to, just never had the hardware.

#87895 Reggie on Late Night

Posted by Hoodbury on 15 June 2012 - 01:35 PM in General Gaming

Like last year, we'll probably see some new gameplay of things and get a good laugh.

I doubt we'll see anything new. What was new last year? I thought he just brought the 3DS and let him play the same thing that was at e3? Or was that 2 years ago?

My guess is we'll see Nintendo Land again. My specific guess is it'll be Jimmy vs some of his band members playing the ghost game.

Then it'll end with Jimmy asking questions like is CoD coming to Wii-U, is GTA coming to Wii-U.... And Reggie will just answer with "we can't talk about that now" about 5 or 6 times. :P

#66515 Posting comments on Wii U Go

Posted by Hoodbury on 16 March 2012 - 06:01 AM in Site News and Feedback

Whenever I try to post a comment on one of the articles on the home page(Wii-U Go) it never shows up.  I tried posting it again and I get a message that says something like "Looks like you already posted this same message".  But it never appears.

#66529 possibilities of $50 loss on every wii u.

Posted by Hoodbury on 16 March 2012 - 08:14 AM in Wii U Hardware

http://www.computera...u-ray-nintendo/

Wii U won't use Blu-Ray.

I'm not sure why Nollog is still trying to explain it when the article Terrabyte20 posted says specifically that it doesn't use a Blue-Ray player. Just read the article, it's a direct quote from Reggie.

#84923 Positive Nintendo E3 Thread

Posted by Hoodbury on 06 June 2012 - 07:40 AM in General Gaming

So the 3 Facebook games weren't Pikman, NSMB, and NintendoLand? I wonder if they just forgot to update their Facebook and scratch/display them or if we really are getting 3 more new announcements.

Where is the announcement that there will be 3 games revealed on Thursday?

#72932 Paul Gale Network: Good Times Are Coming!

Posted by Hoodbury on 18 April 2012 - 07:55 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I guess to me, announcing you have an announcement isn't that exciting and I kinda hate it when 'journalists' do it.

Here, I'll make one too and you guys let me know if you're excited for my big announcement and I'll even give you an exact date unlike this Paul guy: I have really big and exciting news to tell you guys about the Wii-U and I'll tell you it on June 6th.

#72968 Paul Gale Network: Good Times Are Coming!

Posted by Hoodbury on 18 April 2012 - 10:21 AM in Wii U Games and Software

My mind instantly jumps to SSB4 whenever I see "Wii U/3DS cross platform", but it has to be something bigger than that since SSB4 has already been confirmed. Whatever it is, I hope we hear soon.

I'm with you, SSB4 is already confirmed for the cross platform so it's gotta be something else. We already got news Monster Hunter 4 is coming to the 3DS, perhaps the Wii-U will get it too and it'll have cross platform functionality? That would definitely be my dream come true.

#87019 no online multiplayer for Pikmin 3

Posted by Hoodbury on 12 June 2012 - 07:36 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't think you know this, but RTS = REAL TIME strategy. RTS games are not turned based.

Again, I played Command and Conquer Red Alert back in the 90s on a dial up modem with 'hundreds' of units on screen. I don't think you are giving technology credit for how good it is today.

#86721 no online multiplayer for Pikmin 3

Posted by Hoodbury on 11 June 2012 - 01:05 PM in Wii U Games and Software

IGN interviews Shiggy

"You have to be very careful that you don't drop frames as you're trying to sync up with other players over what could be a very great physical distance, over the internet. But in the situation of Pikmin, for example, since you would have lots of individual, small creatures, the Pikmin, whose every movement and location is going to be really important in the game, it would be very difficult to sync up over an internet connection."

"So I think what we've decided to do is focus on the single-player and local multiplayer aspects, which are really fun. But unfortunately, no online multiplayer for Pikmin 3. But the co-op local multiplayer is really fun."

I kinda feel like Miyamoto is kinda getting behind on the times and not wanting to change lately. He makes fun games sure, but he seems to always leave out modern aspects in them like online and such. I'm old; I don't have friends come over to play video games with me anymore. The only times I get to play multiplayer is when it is online. He doesn't seem to cater to people in my situation.

I still prefer Nintendo systems, but I keep leaning more and more towards 3rd party games. They seem to be more inline with my gaming preferences and needs. I don't really understand how he can use online capabilities as a reason why this game wouldn't work online. I've been playing RTS games since dial-up modems back in the 90s.

What do you guys think? Is Miyamoto getting to be behind the times? Or do you still crave everything he makes? IS it dissapointing to you too that Pikmin won't have online?

#87202 no online multiplayer for Pikmin 3

Posted by Hoodbury on 12 June 2012 - 07:46 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Something about playing this shortly after listening to nintendos press conference made me realize that this was how games were meant to be played.
/snip
Now you tell me if online multiplayer is really necessary

Nice story, and I agree that local multiplayer is a hoot, but no one ever said anything about removing local multiplayer to have online multiplayer. In this day and age, both are perfectly common place.

Now imagine yourself growing up and moving out but still keeping in touch with your local gaming friends. You still have the same interests as them but you live 200 miles away from each other. Wouldn't you still like to have that great multiplayer experiences with them? It wouldn't be as intimate as sitting next to them on the couch, but with voice chat it can still be a lot of fun.

A lot of us rely on online multiplayer to keep the games going with our friends who no longer live a block away.

#74453 Nintendo Power Teases Exciting Announcement

Posted by Hoodbury on 24 April 2012 - 01:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

For some reason the upper right corner of the red thing really makes me think of Starfox. So my guess it'll be Starfox related. At least that's the vibe I am getting from it.

#76361 Nintendo Needs A Halo

Posted by Hoodbury on 01 May 2012 - 10:31 AM in Wii U Games and Software

If you want to attract the Halo/CoD fans you need these things in my opinion:
  • Competitive multiplayer
    • Online leaderboards - and not just W/L ratio and K/D ratio. Needs expansive leaderboards that track many attributes.
    • Stat tracking of every thing you can think of
    • Smooth gameplay and framerates while playing online
    • Voice chat (which should be a given in today's online gaming age)
    • Easy to use friend lists and jump in jump out functionality to play with them
    • More gamemodes than the basic TDM and Free for all that a lot of CoD imitators only seem to add.
    • Plenty of maps to keep things fresh
    • Balance - it really sucks when 1 gun is found to be overly powerful compared to the others and then everyone just uses the same gun/setup.
    • Feed the grinder mechanics, ie. - a slow grind with tiny carrots sprinkled for the player to achieve
  • Realistic Graphics
  • Single Player campaign with some mature themes.
  • Some type of 3rd gamemode. Something like zombies or a horde mode. Something else to do when you need a break from multiplayer and have beaten the single player campaign.
Remember, this isn't technically what I'm saying would make the greatest game ever, just what I think a game would need to attract the CoD/Halo gamer to the Nintendo Wii U.
