But for the new controller there are plenty of ideas I suppose
- Kill streaks is the main one of course I would assume. It's perfect for a top down view for a lot of the air support kill streaks. Or for remote control of things like sentry guns and RC car type kill streaks could use the gyro controls.
- I'm not a fan of video of the players reaction due to the immaturaty of the world
- The HUD could go on the controller screen leaving the TV less cluttered and more cinematic looking.
- The menu could be brought up during the game on the controller making it so you can switch classes while still viewing the game. You could even edit classes right from there during the lobby view.
- Constant scoreboard could display on the controller screen so you don't have to bring it up on the TV and ruin your view.
- Stats/Achievements could display down on the controller either during a game or in the lobby.
- You could have the map display on the controller and then using touch, you could mark on your map where the enemy is or where you want your squad to focus on and your markings would also display on their maps. Could do a lot of team work type of things using the touch screen.
- Similar to the Tokyo street tech demo thing, you could use the controller's gyro capabilities to look around for spy planes and other air support to shoot down with your rockets.
But most of all, I just want the full version of the game for us Nintendo folk and to be able to use my Wii-mote/nun chuck still.

Wii U won't use Blu-Ray.
I'm not sure why Nollog is still trying to explain it when the article Terrabyte20 posted says specifically that it doesn't use a Blue-Ray player. Just read the article, it's a direct quote from Reggie.

#87202 no online multiplayer for Pikmin 3

Nice story, and I agree that local multiplayer is a hoot, but no one ever said anything about removing local multiplayer to have online multiplayer. In this day and age, both are perfectly common place.Something about playing this shortly after listening to nintendos press conference made me realize that this was how games were meant to be played.
/snip
Now you tell me if online multiplayer is really necessary
Now imagine yourself growing up and moving out but still keeping in touch with your local gaming friends. You still have the same interests as them but you live 200 miles away from each other. Wouldn't you still like to have that great multiplayer experiences with them? It wouldn't be as intimate as sitting next to them on the couch, but with voice chat it can still be a lot of fun.
A lot of us rely on online multiplayer to keep the games going with our friends who no longer live a block away.

Again, I played Command and Conquer Red Alert back in the 90s on a dial up modem with 'hundreds' of units on screen. I don't think you are giving technology credit for how good it is today.

"You have to be very careful that you don't drop frames as you're trying to sync up with other players over what could be a very great physical distance, over the internet. But in the situation of Pikmin, for example, since you would have lots of individual, small creatures, the Pikmin, whose every movement and location is going to be really important in the game, it would be very difficult to sync up over an internet connection."
"So I think what we've decided to do is focus on the single-player and local multiplayer aspects, which are really fun. But unfortunately, no online multiplayer for Pikmin 3. But the co-op local multiplayer is really fun."
I kinda feel like Miyamoto is kinda getting behind on the times and not wanting to change lately. He makes fun games sure, but he seems to always leave out modern aspects in them like online and such. I'm old; I don't have friends come over to play video games with me anymore. The only times I get to play multiplayer is when it is online. He doesn't seem to cater to people in my situation.
I still prefer Nintendo systems, but I keep leaning more and more towards 3rd party games. They seem to be more inline with my gaming preferences and needs. I don't really understand how he can use online capabilities as a reason why this game wouldn't work online. I've been playing RTS games since dial-up modems back in the 90s.
What do you guys think? Is Miyamoto getting to be behind the times? Or do you still crave everything he makes? IS it dissapointing to you too that Pikmin won't have online?

The only thing I question is the context of when other people say "Next Gen". When we've heard from developers in the past about the Wii-U's graphical abilities they always say something like "yes it's a true next gen system, it looks very much as good as the PS360".
So to me, a lot of people who aren't as 'die hard' about this system as a lot of us here are, still kinda refer to PS360 graphics as next gen. Especially when talking about Nintendo, they think that since the Wii was still SD and now the Wii-U is going HD, that they just refer to it as Next-Gen when saying it can do what the PS360 can do.
What I'm trying to get at, is does your friend understand when we refer to things as "Next-Gen" that we are talking about not comparing it to PS360, but past that?

#78984 Nintendo aiming to get the "hardcore" gamers back. Would it even matter?

I don't really think of casual vs core gamer based on how many games you buy. It's more about which games you buy and how you go about playing those games.A casual gamer buys maybe four games in a systems lifetime, a Hardcore gamer buys thirty.
I bought a gaming PC pretty much top of the line back in 2006 to play just one game on. Over the years I put in around 4 months of in-game play time, think about how much time 4 months is (it's around 3,000 hours) when you talk about a Zelda game taking 50-80 hours to complete being considered massive and hardcore. But you'd say I'm a casual gamer because I only bought one game? No, of course you wouldn't, that doesn't make any sense.
Same with the Wii, I had 4 games that I put in over 400 hours each and then a bunch of other games that would be considered 'casual' games that I didn't do too much with. But with those 4 games I played the crap out of, I was definitely playing them "hardcore" as you could say. To me, meaning I played them with more effort and care than just what you would do when you pop in Wii-sports and show a friend how the Wii-mote can work.
I had more fun with those 4 games than I did with the 15 or so other games together. To me, it's not about the quantity of games you play that makes you core or casual, it's the quality you put into an individual game.
Even now that I'm married and have a baby, I still consider myself a core gamer even though I don't get to put as much time into it as I use to. The time I do get to play, I make the most of it and play to win or do good, or whatever.

Online multiplayer on the Wii is hacked to pieces with no prevention systems in place or ability to ban those users. Wii U needs to prevent that from happening. Right now I don't really care for Miiverse since I won't be doing chat bubbles on the system. When I'm on the system I'll be playing games. I can chat enough on forums like this and other ones while I'm at work.

If developers are going to start making games with higher poly counts and more moving pieces that the Wii-U wouldn't be able to handle, then we won't get those ports.
The Wii-U just has to be strong enough, it doesn't have to be as strong as the other two.

Look at newer car models compared to ones 5-10 years old. Blocky is coming back and roundish is going away. 10 years ago it was all about how round can you make it, think about mazda miata's, dodge stratus, ford taurus. They were all smooth ovals. Now look at the new Catelacs, the new ford taurus, etc. They have defined lines, angles, corners.
It's a stylish blocky though, and I kinda like it actually.

Since I've never played one before can someone answer this, is this an open ended game? Or is the single player a linear start and end type of game?
And also this question: there will be multiplayer correct?

- Competitive multiplayer
- Online leaderboards - and not just W/L ratio and K/D ratio. Needs expansive leaderboards that track many attributes.
- Stat tracking of every thing you can think of
- Smooth gameplay and framerates while playing online
- Voice chat (which should be a given in today's online gaming age)
- Easy to use friend lists and jump in jump out functionality to play with them
- More gamemodes than the basic TDM and Free for all that a lot of CoD imitators only seem to add.
- Plenty of maps to keep things fresh
- Balance - it really sucks when 1 gun is found to be overly powerful compared to the others and then everyone just uses the same gun/setup.
- Feed the grinder mechanics, ie. - a slow grind with tiny carrots sprinkled for the player to achieve
- Realistic Graphics
- Single Player campaign with some mature themes.
- Some type of 3rd gamemode. Something like zombies or a horde mode. Something else to do when you need a break from multiplayer and have beaten the single player campaign.

this was never confirmed, in fact, when they asked the head at DICE, he said he really liked the console but had no plans for wii u.
actually, just take a look at this, it will be cleared up this way:
http://mynintendonew...ii-u-after-all/
this doesnt mean it wont come, just saying, dont get ur hopes up, but u can get ur hopes up for medal of honour cos that will be released this october
Ya, back when that article came out I thought that pretty much meant no Battlefield 3, and then later on they said we would get the new MoH game. Where is this BF3 confirmation coming from?
