Insanity
And the lack of big time media hype for this game is... DISTURBINGLY peculiar.

Engadget gaming, IGN, gamespot, game informer, euro gamer, etc... Why is this game always buried under everything and tucked away in the Wii U section???

It's front page stuff. Especially now.

At least IGN featured it.

If ever there was a game to have commercial on TV for it, this is it. Heck, it could have done with a freaking Super Bowl ad.

If it was on any other system, the entire gaming community would be frothing.

As it is, with only so many wii u systems in the wild, I can see this thing moving hardware.

Even with the underlying negative sentiment toward wii u, this game seems to be the beacon for gamers to come back home. Lol

I cannot honestly remember a game trying so hard to be truly great...and looking like its succeeding.

#308641 Get your hopes up about Zelda Wii U and Xenoblade X, but not too much (imo)

Posted by Socalmuscle on 10 February 2015 - 06:15 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Well some of them were, but there was actually a massive amount of mountains that could be climbed and a huge amount of dungeons (cookie cutter yes, but still worth exploring) within the mountains. While skyrim's world space is considerably less than XBX, the game world was ingeniously designed with the layout of mountains to appear much larger than it actually was.  I am in no way degrading the genius of the people at monolith, who I agree can layer a world with amazing skill to add tons of 3 dimensional  space, but I am arguing that Skyrim is also designed quite fantastically when you come to terms that the world is no bigger than its predecessor (even a little smaller) but feels enormous do the the elevation differences added.  Almost any open world game uses mountains or ocean to conceal invisible boundaries, even Xenoblade.  It will be interesting to see how XBX is received in the west, and to see if it lives up to its hype.

I have to agree on some points.

Skyrim was an amazing game in its own right.

For the type of game it is, the graphics were good, the scope of the game was big, the various quests were fun, and the upgrade/leveling systems were decent.

What wasn't cool was walking up a mountain, then looking down to where you were going and seeing a bunch of squares with the same pattern on them. Then realizing that was actually the ground.

What also wasn't cool was the game just flat out freezing and having to restart the whole console.

Or the glitches/missed animation frames that somehow ended up getting you killed.

Or taking the time to explore as far to the map edge as you can, almost getting there and seeing something interesting....and not being able to get there.

But I have to admit, I still enjoyed it. Bugs and all. Put a ton of time into it and did everything there was to do. And beat the ebony armor dude easy.

In the early stages, the game held so much promise. But the limitations and incredible repetition began to show quickly.

It's was fun for a while. However, I doubt I'd be able to play a game as poorly cobbled together as that one was again.

Then there is X. It ticks all the same boxes that Skyrim held for me and MORE.

and from a company with a reputation for quality.

A nintendo quality game with very high production values? Yes please.

After much scrutinizing, analyzing, and poring over the available screens, I've found an obvious repeat texture.

It's very well utilized. And far enough from other instances, but it's there. And it's a huge texture.

That's right... ONE repeat texture. Only visible from a very zoomed out stage.

It took a while, but I found it. I knew it would be there because it HAD to be. No way around it especially given file size constraints for 32 gb limited stock consoles. And the edges are so well matched to the surrounding textures that they just line up.

I'm on iPad atm, but when I get time, I'll circle the instances. Looks kind of like a light colored dirt spider shape.

Dang these guys are good.

When you see this kind of thing, you only appreciate the effort they've put in to truly CRAFT this game.

Just more hype for me. Lol.

I wonder if there is any more continents or regions..

I doubt it.

That's A LOT. Of territory.

Compare the x map to this to get an idea:

#308495 New Splatoon info- You WILL want to see this

Posted by Socalmuscle on 08 February 2015 - 09:54 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Development time. The only reason I can think of for not cpu players.

This game looks amazing and they need it out like yesterday.

Perhaps they'll patch in cpu opponents later.

Otherwise it's titanfall with squids. But still a lot of fun.

The only downside without bots is longevity. If you want to play it in a year or two...**crickets**

Hopefully they address that by adding some antogists controlled by the system.

Game looks tiny when you look at the 5 areas in this perspective.. hahaaha

B9KlrJuCUAAHz6f.jpg

lol. True.

But then again, the continents of the world look pretty tiny on a 2d map.

Oh man I can't believe how hyped I am for this game.

It literally clicks every button in me as a gamer, a music lover, an artist, and a fantasy/sci fi fan. All combined.

Only thing I'd change are some of the humanoid character designs. But even those are growing on me.

Except that dude with the hair like alfalfa from little rascals. That's just ridiculous looking. Lol

I kind of made a booboo I see. I'll just let this garbage go. I don't want to be the next WydrA.

It's called looking for something that's not there to prove a point that doesn't exist.

But we've all been guilty of that at some point.

Then we learn to be less dogmatic when speaking of things that are based on ideas and opinions.

For some reason pretty much every saga 'fan' I know of outside this board absolutely hates Xenoblade and Xenoblade X (And has never played xenoblade), and any similarities and the fact its not on a playstation only seems to make them fester and hate more. Not that im surprised, this is, after all the 'fan' base that incessantly dog piled, mocked and ridiculed Sorayasaga to the point of attempted suicide when she needed support the most. They are already hate raging over this very screen. At least the gears fans are excited.

Anyways, Im pretty sure its beyond safe to say this is Episode 1 of the Xeno series. Modified for copyrights and the wisdom of experience gained of course, but this is blatantly chapter 1 of the Xeno story.

Maybe that's what puts the "cross" in the title. As in "crossover?"

Interesente.

Ok

I'm officially the most hyped for this out of any game I've ever wanted/owned/etc.

Wow.

Microsoft used to have an ad campaign called "show us your wow."

Well...Monolithsoft just did. And it's bad news for Microsoft. Lol.

I'm so glad they showed off a high quality video finally.

And the graphics are truly impressive.

Almost can't believe this is real.

Also notable is how SMOOTH everything runs.

The lighting and shadows are PERFECT.

The textures are better than I thought they'd be.

And the sheer SIZE of some of the textures boggles the mind. Nevermind the insane variety of them.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen such a gigantic, massive, truly epic game world like this in 3D. Ever.

And to have this quality of graphics while accomplishing that... And on the Wii U (the underpowered, barely better than last gen, [insert more incorrect hate statement here], etc.) no less!

The music is perfect. And has an enticing mix of whimsical And futuristic. And to be honest, it's actually stuff that is very cool even to popular top chart music lovers. Might just need to purchase the soundtrack.

Best thing to ever hapoen to Nintendo.

And this needs to become a franchise forever.

Not milked to death like AC, COD, etc. But an epic that releases at least once in every new Nintendo console.

Until the end of time.

Period.

#308102 My Vita vs. New 3DS showdown

Posted by Socalmuscle on 04 February 2015 - 12:47 AM in General Gaming

The Vita is awesome and it's what the game boy should be right now.

But... No one really cares to develop great games for it for some crazy reason.

Meanwhile nintendo continues to underpower and make a killing.

In Nintendo's defense however, I believe they are simply trying to but some time until the new systems come out.

And I'm PRAYING they get seriously blood spillingly aggressive with the hardware specs for both mobile and home system.

Can you imagine the wii u with ps4 specs? There would literally be zero reason to own any other console.

#308076 Bloodborne - The first 18 minutes of gameplay

Posted by Socalmuscle on 03 February 2015 - 04:47 AM in General Gaming

Need's more than two footstep sounds.

And yes I'm aware it's still being developed lol.

But MG Rising made it to my console ith two footstep sounds....

Made it seem cheap compared to the fun I had cutting things up.

Also, bathe opening scene which quite frankly will give me nightmares, is so well done that's quite jarring when it cuts to the standard "regular interactive portion" of the game. Everything is cinematic and crazy!!! Then... Your typical stilted third person view.

More developers should take heed to the opening of fallout 3. The game was nearly unplayable with glitches. But the opening scene that you played was done amazingly well.

That route can b taken or you can have transitional phases as well.

Anyway, hopefully they can address some of these issues before release.
Too scary for me. But it's very atmospheric and could be greatly helped by working on some minor things.

#307993 metroid prime trilogy wii u

Posted by Socalmuscle on 01 February 2015 - 11:13 PM in Wii U Games and Software

going to relive some nostalgia here and hope again for a new game

but... disappointed that it requires wii gear  this wasnt done on the wii channel it was on the U eshop so i hoped it was reworked for the gamepad

but cant even enjoy it now because i have to unpack the sensor bar and buy a new wiimote.

i carefully readcthe description and info before i bought it  but there was no indication it required wii hardware.

to be honest bummed a bit. but still excited at the same time.

anyone else playing this?

how are you enjoying it?

#307959 What do you want (or expect) the next home console to be?

Posted by Socalmuscle on 01 February 2015 - 03:29 AM in Wii U Hardware

Nintendo should play hardball with the next console.

Sony and ms don't do the hardware themselves they all work with partners. Just like Nintendo does.

Nintendo should beat them at their own game: build hardware that trumps them, woo third parties back, cut deals for some big and even game changing exclusives. And also don't forget who they are. Keep crafting the best gaming software on the planet. Only with higher production values afforded by the amped up hardware. No, not all the games have to be crazy graphically. But metroid and Zelda can definitely go for "better than uncharted 4" territory. And they'd sell. Kirby and the like can be built much cheaper.

And controls. No need to reinvent the freaking wheel every time. By now we know what works, what we like, and what we prefer. Just built a solid control system and don't have to dream up some completely new thing. I rather like a controller with buttons.

The main thing is the hardware. Give it some serious, serious POWER. Kick sonys butt from here to Kyoto and back. And then brag about it.

And with the software, make it somewhat mature and neutral. The wii u is freakishy jarring going from batman or splinter cell to the wii u menu or eshop. It quite literally LOOKS, SOUNDS, and functions like it was built for children only.

Sure have some elements for kids. But make it primarily neutral do your content can define it.

And have a freaking centralized online system where profiles are mobile. And have systemwide and gamewide voice and even video chat.

An app ecosystem that rivals or beats ms wouldn't hurt things.

Stop being satisfied with being number 3 and tear the reigns back from their beaten carcasses.

If Sony comes out with a certain gpu, make certain yours is better. More or faster ram. Faster cpu. Better architectural optimization, etc.

Nintendo can quite literally be the only console we need. But it's like they don't helieve in themselves. So they've bern happy to be the Mario console.

With respect, I think they did get aggressive ith wii u, but to a certain degree swung and missed on hardware, missed on making good use of an innovative controller, and executed not do well on an ambitious software/online/social/system setup.

This is what they should have worked on for the original wii.

But here they are. And now they'll be able to refine and grow.

Hopefully iwata sees the Wii was a one time wonder that came along at a perfect market shift bother time is gone.

And people want their console to be powerful. They expect feature packed online. Social. Apps. These are just a given.

Make sure these expected points are done. THEN work on differentiation. Don't simoly leave something out and call it "different."

This time be honest when u say you're kicking butt and taking names. And put out a machine that does exactly that.

And don't be afraid to make a console that sells for $400 or even more

Because it's worth it darn you!

lol @ everyone who argued this game wasn't in development for wii u when the teaser was first shown.

While still not confirmed for wii u... Just LOOK AT IT...

I suppose the only way this doesn't come out is if it some commercial failure wherever it's headed.

But it definitely looks a lot like smash. Lol. And I'm not referring to art style

Looking good.

My guess would be the seamless world.

The extra layer would increase the rom size capacity of the disc, but with that extra 25GB of data on that disc, well, now you have an extra 25GB of data adresses to search through when looking for, say, that texture the game wants to stream in, thats not currently in ram.... With the same search/read speed you had back with half the data to search through.

When you are watching a movie and everything is sequential, it doesnt really matter, when you are playing a game that stops to load the next area, it also does'nt really matter. When you are playing a 400 km squared seamless open world game, and you are doing tons of random access calls to your disc I bet having to deal with an extra 25GB adds up pretty fast.

Oh, you mean like this?

360_013.bmp.jpg

I still can not believe how many people still swear up and down XcX is 'just on par with 360 open world games, its not doing anything ps360 hasnt done better in games like skyrim'

Its like they literally can not see the texture repeating every damn foot.

Lol. Exactly.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
This game just keeps looking more and more like pure psychotic awesomeness.

I may actually be anticipating this more than Zelda.

Texture this game is FULL of a crazy variety of textures.

One of the first thinks I noticed. That's a TON of paint.

Even Destiny reuses a lot of textures and in Some areas takes the color palette really low.

But it till uses a ton of textures.

X however seems like and endless deluge of very large and variable graphics assets.

One of the more impressive things is looking down at the map from a high distance and not being able to notice texture tiles. That's huge. Try that with Skyrim and the like. Big difference.
Taking massive textures like that, the geometry, ai, scripting, collision detection, blighting, audio, etc... And fitting into aRam a with no loading... Whoa. That's dome serious load and memory management going on.

These guys deserve big sales just for being geniuses. Not to mention what's dhaping up to be a stellar game.
