#285228 New series/systems the year you were born

Posted by 3Dude on 14 May 2014 - 08:48 PM in General Gaming

1981<br /><br />A year just preceding the filth and continued year over year debauchery, cash ins and sell outs in the videogame industry leading to the crash. It would be a few years before videogames came back to where they left off here, the industry would need to crash to remove all the parasites weighing it down. But once it shook the monkey's off its back, it then continued generation after generation of design and gameplay improvement... At least until 2006, the generation nasty old greedy habits/parasites came back with a shiny coat of paint.<br /><br />Donkey Kong<br />Utopia<br />Ultima<br />ms pacman<br />castle wolfenstein<br />Wizardry<br />vangaurd<br /><br /><br />(wizardry and ultima would form the foundation that square and eenix copied in pure homage/idolation for dragon quest and final fantasy, leaving me forever bemused that the definition of what would be known as the 'jrpg' is actually a straight adoption of the og w/crpg.)<br /><br />

#282374 Hey 3Dude...

Well, you are going to be losing a LOT of floating point power in the cpu. But thats okay, ps360 were kinda anamolies in that regaurd. arm flops compare pretty poorly even compared to x86 flops as they seem to be limited to 2 flops per cycle for FMAC and 1 for non fmac for 64bit precision... Which ps360 already have beat and with about double the cycles available...

The architecture was benched at 0.

2 mops per hz, so thats a pretty easy calculation for you.

Your gpu is where you want your flops, and with 96 shaders (bummer its not using the 330), you are looking at around 86 gflops.... Also pretty handedly beat by ps360.

Its a pretty fair beating all around.

The kraits best trait is that they are usable with devices that run on batteries, Something ps360 dont remotely care about.

Still, it is a more modern shader set, with modern support. For a one man or small team job, like you said, it is more than powerful enough for you to do what you want. And certainly more than powerful enough to make a fantastic looking game in the right hands.

(I think anything as powerful as a ps2 meets that criteria)

What if AAA video game developers didnt treat you like a moronic peice of crap? What if they actually thought you were capable of learning things like a human being?

Watchdogs recently brought to the plate a game around the concept of 'hacking', but in reality, you dont hack anything. Everything is done with a predetermined finite state machine, where you just point to the thing you want hacked, and click on it, and it does its predetermined job.

But what if they actually let you HACK things? Well,Zaratustra productions hax corps does just that. It treats you like a big boy, who can read and figure things out like a big boy. And lets you hack into the constructs of its game world and reprogram them.

The premise is simple, you are stuck in a gigantic evil warehouse of the evil, evil corporation, and must hack your way to the data chips to find out whats going on.

Collecting data chips will give you information you can use to better hack/progress in the game world, hacking objects and using basic critical thinking and problem solving abilities will ALSO allow you to learn how to Hack.

For example, after hacking into one of your first servers you see the code:

IF_SENSOR
DOOR_CLOSE
END_IF

The game suggests you replace 'close' with 'open' and you instantly get how the game works. It just works. From then on, all you leanr is learned yourself, or via collecting data chips.

The game is html5 and runs in the web browser, so its super easy to get started.

http://zarat.us/games/haxcorp/

There are 50 data chips total, I have managed to get 47.

So just think. What if, instead of a tiny little game, made by a single person, what if this mechanic was taken out of this game, and put into a AAA game like watchdogs? What kind of possibilities would then arise, with the actual capability to quickly, simply, and effectively reprogram objects in the game?

It would be a Brave new world.

#282321 Why NES Remix is not on the 3DS.

Posted by 3Dude on 23 April 2014 - 03:08 AM in General Gaming

I'm not saying it wouldn't struggle, but it shouldn't take that long to optimise it for the 3DS, heck we have a very nice smash bros on there running 60 fps. shouldn't be that hard for a company like nintendo

You would think so. But timing perfect emulation is EXTREMELY deceptively, stupid hard to do.

You should take a look at m2's interviews at how much trouble they had with the ps2 genesis collection. (these are also the guys who do a lot of virtual console stuff)

Doing the emulation is incredibly easy. Doing it PERFECT timing wise is damn near impossible, especially for certain exotic console architectures, and requires surprisingly beefy hardware. Its not the games thats the problem, but the inscrutably high standards nintendo has for absolutely perfect control timing.

They arent saying it cant be done, but, for a title like nes remix, which is just a downloadable eshop title, and not a huge AAA main game release, that needed to come out quickly, likely to help fill out the barren release scheduele, the time it would have taken to get the timing to reach their sky high nintendo standards on the 3ds, would have been too much work, and take too long, on a system thats not hurting for quality software, and thus makes less sense than the far easier, far quicker task of meeting those same high standards of the far more powerful wii u, which is in desperate need of content.

Well I guess that explains where the generic Non-Max shmuck on the cover came from.
