#105454 The New Guy

Posted by LaserSWE on 09 September 2012 - 09:05 AM in Introduction Central

Hello you (yes, you!)
Im a soon to be 24 year old swede that just a few minutes ago Googled my way to this forum since, well, there just wasnt enough Wii U-hyping on my regular (multiplatform) forums. To be honest, i have been playing mostly Playstation 3 during the current gen (even though i did buy a Wii at launch but it didnt really stick) but with Wii U i am looking back at Nintendo as the one bringing my main platform. I am super-psyched about the launch and as it seems i will be bringing the console back home together with Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, ZombiU and New Super Mario Bros U.

Hope to be visiting this forum a lot more in the days to come (new press-conference on Thursday!) as well as both before and after the actual launch!

Thanks for all the welcomes! Seems to be a great forum with great people

Wow all those games at once. Pretty coolish.

Well, at least I hope so. As i understand Pikmin 3 is yet to be confirmed as a launch title. But one can only hope.

#105518 Wii U Wishlist

Posted by LaserSWE on 09 September 2012 - 10:58 AM in Wii U Games and Software

In my mind Wii U is (will become) the perfect combination of Gamecube and Wii so I hope to see a lot of the really great multiplayer/party-games such as Wii Sports and Super Smash Bros on the platform combined with great singleplayer-adventure games (like Zelda and Metroid Prime) as well as some Nintendo-franchises that we havent seen in a while, such the already confirmed Pikmin 3, but also F-Zero and Starfox.
Im not sure what to expect in terms of second and third-party games but it seems that a lot of PS360-games will be ported/updated, at least in the beginning of its lifespan. But hopefully we will see some great games from such studios and publishers as well.
Maybe Nintendo will close some interesting third-party deals such as they did during the Gamecube-era (with Capcom, Namco, Square Enix and Konami and so on).

#105528 Sonic Adventure 2 release for XBLA and PSN!

Posted by LaserSWE on 09 September 2012 - 11:09 AM in General Gaming

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was the first game I got for the Gamecube back in the day. Great game.

#105539 Why would a graphical leap be a bad move for MS and Sony?

Posted by LaserSWE on 09 September 2012 - 11:18 AM in General Gaming

That wouldnt (and wont) be bad for them. Thats what will sell the platforms. Both Sony and Microsoft already have platforms out on the market that are somewhat near the Wii U in terms of hardware so not update that side on their future platforms wouldnt make sense.
Both of them have already put some effort in on lenghten their consoles lifetime-span with new controllers (Move, Kinect, PsVita compatibility and the Surface-tablet) so what they should and problably will offer with Xbox 3 and Playstation 4 is quite powerful hardware.

Which will be good for both us (Nintendo-games we can get on the Wii U. Other kind of more hardware-demanding games can, if we want them, be enjoyed on the other platforms) and for them (in sales). Its good that the consoles are different from one another.
I wouldnt want to go back to the times when one had three basicly similiar platforms beneath the TV with the only difference of some exclusive games.

#106025 This game should be on wii u

Posted by LaserSWE on 11 September 2012 - 05:49 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I guess that I would buy it and love it, and all. But no, not really. Not in terms of what I really, REALLY, want. Something new, as Galaxy originally was, is what i look forward to in the next Mario installation.

#106042 What Consoles do you have?

Posted by LaserSWE on 11 September 2012 - 07:57 AM in General Gaming

I recently sold off most off my video-game collection so it would be more living-room friendly. So now I only have Playstation 3.
And soon a Wii U. The coming years will have to tell if the PS3 will stay or go (If the PS4 will be backwards-compatible or not).

#106458 Could the PS4 and 720 do as well as their current gen counterparts?

#106460 Does anybody know a ps3 or 360 owner thats going to convert to wii u?

Posted by LaserSWE on 12 September 2012 - 05:56 AM in Wii U Hardware

So simply do u know a ps3 or xbox owner willing to embrace nintendo? Have they done enough to reach out and convert the consumers they are trying to win over? And what more can they do?

I am one.

But for me I think its mostly that i want something new. I picked up both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 at their respective launch so I have been using these systems for a good while now. So I am looking forward to new hardware and the new software that comes with it.
(I have owned Wii as well, but not for long. I picked it up for Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess and thats basicly what i played on it)

I think Nintendo is doing a good choice in trying to get as many PS360/multiplatform-games on Wii U as possible. For me thats a selling point since it will ease up the transition proccess a great deal. If Nintendo gets most of the upcoming multi-games on their platform i could basicly sell of my other platforms as soon as the few exclusives in the pipeline for those platforms are out and then use Wii U as my main platform.
But i think they have to do more in terms of announcing more exclusive games both first- and third party developed. As i understand it only Super Smash Bros has been announced for the future which is quite little.
Before Gamecube was launched we knew that games like Starfox Adventures, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine and Resident Evil (and so on) was in the pipeline. But for Wii U the games of the future are very unclear.

#106467 Do you think the game pad should have been an optional extra?

Posted by LaserSWE on 12 September 2012 - 06:36 AM in Wii U Hardware

No, the Wii U pad is what Wii U is all about. I think its the perfect combination of traditional gaming and the whole "Be more involved" thing that have come with DS, Wii, Kinect and so on. One doesnt have to jump around or swing up and down to play. Just look down and use a touchpad once in a while.

What I really want Nintendo to do is to make a new version of the Wiimote with built in batteries (such as the Wii U Pad). I would really like to use Wii U for Wii games as well but i just wont use a controller that uses AA-batteries.

#106480 RUMOR: Wii U pre orders could start as soon as Thursday.

Posted by LaserSWE on 12 September 2012 - 07:52 AM in Wii U Hardware

Already possible to pre-order here in Sweden and has been for a good while. I will definetely pre-order to ensure to have one at launch, but I am waiting for a date and pricetag. So maybe tomorrow will be the day. Problably will be.

#106841 Japanese Nintendo Direct recap

Posted by LaserSWE on 13 September 2012 - 05:48 AM in Wii U Hardware

what does this mean exactly, explain?, anyone?

does it mean network fee?

As I understand it it means that the discount will apply until 2014. After that you will have a regular account.

#107809 Basic Bundle Worth It?/Anyone getting it?

Posted by LaserSWE on 14 September 2012 - 11:27 PM in Wii U Hardware

Im definetely picking up the Premium/Deluxe edition. Id rather have a white platform but then again, ill take all the HDD space I can get. I remember my first Playstation 3 which was a 20GB i imported from Japan. Not much memory to play around with.. so I would never, by choice, choose to have only 8GB.
Also, since the sensor-bar aint coming with the Basic i just see it as an uncomplete package since many Wii U games actually will support, some even require, Wiimotes. Not to mention the Wii-backwardscompatibility and Virtual Console-games. (Which i hear wont be playable on the WiiU Pad).

#107828 What games did U pre-order?

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 01:39 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I pre-ordered the ZombiU bundle and New Super Mario Bros U. And I have decided to let it stay at that. At launch. Two great games at Day 1 are enough.

#108329 Wii U Wishlist

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 09:10 PM in Wii U Games and Software

If it's a multiplat, it will, but the PC version will rock the WiiU version anyway. But it will be superior to PS3 and 360 versions, but it'll probably appear on next-gen platforms, so we don't know what they'll offer yet.

Bethesda have already confirmed to not support WiiU

#108331 Top 5 Wii U games NOT to buy

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 09:18 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I think theres already a lot of crap announced and wouldnt be able to make a list of just ten games.
I dont understand why games like Wipeout 3 and Transformers Prime The Game even got screen-time at the press-conference this thursday. (Or, i guess, it was because to get ActiVision there to showcase Black Ops 2. But still).

#108335 Wii U Wishlist

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 09:25 PM in Wii U Games and Software

sadly. im sure once many more dev companies jump ship and make successful games, i bet they would jump on. bethesda or even bioware RPGs could work so well with this gamepad. your inventory, making your dialog choices, messing with hotkeys or assigned spells/buttons, picklocking stuff on the small screen. so many uses. I'm sure they will give in eventually if they see the money and opportunity.

I really would like to see the Game of the Year-edition of Skyrim on Wii U, but it remains to be seen if Bethesda will change their mind or not.
But since they are, at the core, computer-game developers I really dont think they will find Wii U any more interesting then they find the Wii. I.e not at all. They will be looking for the most sweaty hardware out there because in the end thats what gonna get consumers excited about the next Fallout or The Elder Scrolls.
Same with BioWare and Obsidian.

But yes, i agree that these kind of games would fit very well with the WiiPad. Luckily these kind of games are developed by far more different companies today (even though BioWare and Bethesda is in a class of their own) so we could still see some games like these on the Wii U.
I guess maybe theres a chance for Dragon Age 3 if Mass Effect 3 gets good sales.

#108340 Farming Simulator

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 09:31 PM in Wii U Games and Software

A friend of mine have been playing this series for years and its always the most uninteresting (ever) to look at.
The game lacks the cozy-ness of Harvest Moon and a much required substance other then to just plow that field. Over and over.
Maybe they are changing that though with this new games since it seems to be coming out on every platform on the market. One could hope. I like Harvest Moon. So.

#108342 007 Legends

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 09:35 PM in Wii U Games and Software

What I dont like is that they seem to be using the Goldeneye (remake) engine for this. Which I just cant wrap my head around.
However, Bond games are always entertaining even if they are not always great. So i will problably pick this up. But not for full-price.

#108355 Why Wii U is Expensive.

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 10:09 PM in Wii U Hardware

Well, the difference is that Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 both came with new hardware while Wii U comes with only slightly better hardware then what we got back then, 7 years ago. Both Microsoft and Sony sold their hardware with loss, while Nintendo will earn on every sold platform.
Either way i think the price is legit. Its a new platform either way and people are buying it for the games that are made and will be made during the next five (plus) years. Not based on what chips are in it.

#108357 Will I still be able to get a premium?

Posted by LaserSWE on 15 September 2012 - 10:11 PM in Wii U Hardware

Just wait and see. WiiU aint going anywhere and even though I truly can understand the wish to have it as soon as possible, I think its best to wait for the version (Premium/Deluxe) that you want instead of settling with the core-version.

#108454 If it comes with an HDMI cable, what about the standard port

Posted by LaserSWE on 16 September 2012 - 06:35 AM in Wii U Hardware

It's better this way. The AV cables are cheaper to buy than an HDMI.

Yeah, not really. The pricetag of a Nintendo Wii AV cable is about 45 dollar while you can get a HDMI for like 7 dollar (doesnt mather if you buy a cheap one since all HDMI cables is of the same quality). Nintendo obviously knows this as well.
(HDMI is a standard in which they wouldnt be able to make one especially for the Wii U. So its clever to make consumers buy their own product, i.e the AV cable instead of HDMI which anyone can get anywhere for basicly no price at all).

#108458 If it comes with an HDMI cable, what about the standard port

Posted by LaserSWE on 16 September 2012 - 06:38 AM in Wii U Hardware

most likely be compatibility with Wii cables from what we have seen. I just hope I do not get screwed over just because I have an awesome and big SD TV.

Nintendo have confirmed on their website that consumers will have to use the Wii cables for SD-TVs on Wii U.

#108460 Wii U have Gamecube Compatibility?

Posted by LaserSWE on 16 September 2012 - 06:40 AM in Wii U Hardware

Really hoping for Gamecube games on eShop.
(Or HD-remasters in store)

#108481 If it comes with an HDMI cable, what about the standard port

I have not seen this, could I have a link please?

http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/wii_u_52414.html

Nearly at the bottom of the page

"If you are unable to connect to your TV using the included HDMI cable please use the appropriate Wii cables"
