Randy Pitchford is a very smart man, and not just based on his comments about the GamePad.

#138492 The official "What games should I get?" Thread

Posted by Spleenzorio on 26 November 2012 - 01:04 PM in Wii U Games and Software

ACIII for sure, such an awesome game. The visuals are fantastic too. I got ZombiU also, and I haven't played it since last Sunday, not a big fan. Scribblenauts is pretty fun too. I have Black Ops 2 on PS3 and it's awesome too, if you're a fan of the franchise plus the multiplayer is always there. Sonic Racing if you want..... a racing game! My advice is if you have a few on your mind and can't decide, DON'T get them all at the same time. I have so many games right now and I've just been playing ACIII and Black Ops 2, plus a bit of the new Borderlands 2 DLC.

Too many games!!

#113637 Launch Day Advice

Any advice for a foreigner visiting NYC for the first time? I'll be arriving on the 17th and plan on camping out to buy mii a Wii U on launch day.

Show up early! Bring lots of money if you wanna go shopping elsewhere :P

#108877 Launch Day Advice

If you are wondering what it looks like to get to the midnight launch late, this is a video I made last year for the MW3 midnight launch at my EB Games. ABout 35 seconds in the employee explains how "pre-ringing" works, which is what I assume they will all be doing at most midnight launches with a ton of people.

#115184 Launch day: What are you buying?

Posted by Spleenzorio on 05 October 2012 - 11:59 AM in Wii U Hardware

Before launch -
Wii Motion Plus remote
Nunchuk

At launch -
Zombi U bundle
New Super Mario Bros. U

After launch -
PDP Wireless Afterglow headset (depending on reviews)
Pikmin 3
Screen protector for the main gamepad
Wii Fit U + board

Dumb question, but was there any word that current USB headsets would work with the Wii U if you plugged it into the back of the console? I have the Razer Megalodon and if I could I'd just use that.

Deluxe Bundle, ACIII, ZombiU, NSMBU. Then other stuff around Christmas after I get paid :P

#114971 ZombiU: What do U think?

Posted by Spleenzorio on 04 October 2012 - 01:56 PM in Wii U Games and Software

After having played a bit of this today I am looking forward to it as it does have a lot of potential, however I did have some issues with the interface namely the touch screen's use while looting, it had some issues with responsiveness which I assume is due to it being resistive. Gameplay-wise it was challenging and atmospheric, I like the concept of having many survivors but I get the impression that they don't build on these character's stories enough. Personally I found having to look down at the gamepad to be annoying.

Where did you get to play it?

EB Expo here in Sydney, Australia. I won some tickets and a VIP pass to play the Wii U at an exclusive event last night.

Im from aus, i have no idea what netflix is, and either way i don't do anything on consoles other than play games, which is what they were originally intended for.

Netflix is a service that lets you watch movies and tv shows on your PC or gaming console. It's 8 bucks a month for unlimited usage, but you can't use it on Xbox unless you have Xbox Live.

Oh and by the way "Xbox 360 sucks because they make you pay for online" you couldn't be more wrong, I currently own all 3 current gen consoles and I will tell you now I would be happy to pay double what live costs, it's so much better than ps3 online. I can play the same game side by side online, cod for example I can shoot someone with an entire clip on ps3 and eventually they die, on Xbox however 2-3 shots and they are on the floor. Xbox's online services are 10 times better.

How about that you need to have Xbox Live to watch Netflix, but you don't need to pay additional fees on other consoles :o

#129920 Anybody who wont get wii U at launch day?

Posted by Spleenzorio on 15 November 2012 - 10:16 AM in Wii U Hardware

I know what nintendo claims, but i also know what nintendo does... They sell (recycle) tech and get money from it. Thats what nintendo speaks about, they earn less than they did in wii or gamecube... Eg wii tech cost them 50 bucks, but they sold it 200-150-110 after... even at that price, they earn alot... Thats what they mean probably.

But there is a problem at that price range... If you want to sell a console at that price (400), you must offer at least, the same horse power (tech wise) with at least a low range pc, at this generation.... Wii U, is older tech wize than the low range pc, but it costs as a mid range pc!!!.. I believe its unbalanced. So nintendo is not dying, but they experiment alot with the prices, the same what happened with 3ds...

I mean with 400 you can get

an AMD 8350 with a mobo, psu, ram and a box... and its mid to high range pc (depends) the graphic card...

Console specs are a lot different than PC specs, which is why Wii U only needs 2GB of RAM vs a gaming PC that has anywhere from 8-16GB these days. PCs do a lot more processes than simply gaming and having an OS. If you built a console with the same specs as a gaming PC, not only would you spend a small fortune, but it would be overkill because it doesn't need all that junk to perform how it's supposed to. For the same price as what the Wii U costs you could buy a top of the line graphics card that would last you 3-4 years (No offense but anyone who spends 400 bucks on a whole gaming PC can't honestly think it will run graphically demanding games).

#122367 GameStop Employee: "There will be no Wii U Midnight Launch(es) at GameSto...

Posted by Spleenzorio on 29 October 2012 - 06:49 AM in Wii U Hardware

One reason might be that Black Ops 2 comes out the week before Wii U is released, and I'm sure every store will be having a midnight launch for it. It's very rare that they have more than one midnight launch per month, let alone two of them just a few days apart. There's a lot more that goes into midnight launches than just paying employees extra to be there late.

EDIT: Went to EB today, they actually did a midnight launch for ACIII (so did basically every other store), and will do one for Halo 4 and obviously Black Ops 2. I didn't, stupidly, ask about a midnight launch for the Wii U but I'll give them a call during the day.

I got an email showing which EB Games in Canada would be doing midnight launches and early openings.

Of course mine isn't doing either :(

No need to be disappointed in something that wasn't made specifically for you. The hardcore players already know what the Wii U is all about, why do they need to show them stuff they already know? This commercial is for those people who don't live on the Internet and watch reviews or read websites every day.

#114925 To cancel or not to cancel?

I see it like this. Unless you absolutely do not want it, keep the pre-order. If you are like me and kinda on the fence about getting something, you will do your research about it to make sure you are going to make the right decision. I never make the "oh I'll buy it later" decision because either it will be sold out from day one like the Wii was, or by the time I do get it (this happened with the PSP Go) it it will be something that was kinda a let down and I couldn't even trade it in for any money. I get it day one, and if I don't like it after a week or two, I just return or trade it in for credit.

That's what I did with Lollipop Chainsaw, I think I was more interested in the fact Jessica Nigri was the "spokesmodel" for the game than the actual game itself, and I traded it not even a week later only after playing half the game.

#114733 To cancel or not to cancel?

My opinion, you might not like it. But I would actually trade in my ps vita and games and accessories towards store credit or cash to put down on the Wii U, but then again I'm just not a fan of handhelds.

Therefore it makes less of a dent in yout pocket.

I was thinking of trading in my Vita, I only have 2 games for it and barely play those as it is.

#123431 US Wii U commercial

Posted by Spleenzorio on 01 November 2012 - 10:49 AM in Wii U Hardware

Think of it like this: a parent is watching tv and the ad comes on. Would they be more inclined to buy the Wii U if they see that there are casual kid/family friendly games being shown, or hardcore games like ZombiU and Ninja Gaiden? You give them the lowest common denominator (not to say casual games are bad) so they can start on the ground floor and perhaps work themselves up.

#123477 US Wii U commercial

Then as the commercial progresses "Play your favorite Nintendo franchises like Mario, Zelda and Metroid for the first time ever, in HD"

The only problem with this is that there are no Zelda or Metroid games out yet....... other than that I like your other suggestions.

Use the money you won't be using on Wii U and buy a console that can play old Nintendo games.
