#150390 Good news about slow loading times

Posted by bornsupercharged on 21 December 2012 - 05:13 AM in Wii U Hardware

[...]does it really make that much of a difference to wait an extra 20 seconds between menus?

Yes, it honestly does.

[..]My Wii U load times are only 10 seconds.[..]

So you are backing him up on a false claim that I'm a fanboy?

No, I'm backing him up that "It's also a lot more then 10 seconds and the Wii U should have response times similar to that of its competitors"

Watch the video I made:

Your Wii U is the SAME EXACT hardware as mine, and everyone else's. There is no way your menus load 50% faster than mine, period.

You just sound like a typical fanboy who thinks he's always right and everyone else s either wrong or not entitled to their opinion. It's also a lot more then 10 seconds and the Wii U should have response times similar to that of its competitors. It's closer to 20-30 seconds actually, not to mention the download times are also a joke compared to Its competitots.. It's not getting old and there is no reason why I should stop using the Wii U because of it. Nintendo themselves have already admitted its a problem and are going to try and fix it with an update. You have no clue what so ever about what you're talking about and I suggest you keep out of such threads if you're getting tired of hearing it. Nobody is forcing you to read them. Now go whine and complain somewhere else as you do not make a valid point.

Well stated, I back you 100% on this.

Patience is a virtue

There is NO reason for the long load times, period. This is something that they should have had optimized before the console was even shipped out. Our phones, tablets, computers, even last generation 360/PS3 are pretty much instant when it comes to menus. Why does getting into (and out of) System Settings on my Wii U take SO DANG LONG? It sure as hell isn't to teach us "patience is a virtue".

Ok how about this, on your cell phone go to call someone. Wait 15 seconds for the dialer/phone book to appear. Now click on a contact to call them. Wait another 15 seconds for it start ringing.
Once you're done talking to them, wait 15 seconds for it to go back to your home screen. Is that acceptable to you?

#148952 Can you turn the console on with the Gamepad?

Posted by bornsupercharged on 17 December 2012 - 02:41 PM in Wii U Hardware

It definitely turns on from your GamePad, just like your TV will.

#146875 So it's odd seeing this many systems jsut sitting on shelves.

Posted by bornsupercharged on 12 December 2012 - 12:56 AM in Wii U Hardware

I went to best buy this evening, they had the shelves full of both white and black. Looks like demand is nowhere near the levels the Wii had. I attribute it poor marketing and poor naming (Wii U sounds like an addon for the Wii). I don't believe Nintendo managed to create more Wii Us than they did Wiis - sorry.. I just don't buy into it that they were able to produce more of a complicated system. Remember you couldn't get a Wii at all. A lot of people don't really even know wtf a Wii U is. At least they knew that the Wii was a new console from Nintendo.

#146130 Dark Souls II

There is a petition here for a Wii U port of the game incase you're interested
http://www.change.or...m_term=36236095

500K signatures needed? Yeah.. maybe if every single pre-order person signed it, and all 50k in Europe signed it, plus another 50k people signed it.. we'd reach that. But let's be realistic, that petition will never hit 500k. Ever.

#146128 Nintendo Left Behind in Innovation?

Posted by bornsupercharged on 09 December 2012 - 09:03 PM in General Gaming

Assuming full backwards-compatibility with 360 games, I will be getting the next xbox. If not, it's highly doubtful.

I will definitely not be getting a playstation again.

#146114 Wii Remote Plus (official or not)

Posted by bornsupercharged on 09 December 2012 - 08:20 PM in Wii U Hardware

I would highly recommend getting an official one... my Power A doesn't register at all, period, with my Wii U. Worked fine on the Wii. Dunno why.

#145312 Wii U SKINS! FINALLY! Found a online deal for today only!

Posted by bornsupercharged on 07 December 2012 - 10:26 PM in Wii U Hardware

There's problems with adhesives, residue, alignment, durability, etc. Most of the time these end up going straight into the trash can after messing around with a few minutes and realizing it's never going to get applied perfectly. And then, depending on the quality of adhesive, within a few hours to a few days you realize it will never stay on. And when you go to remove it, sometimes you've left with a sticky residue surprise. Unfortunately unless it's done with hydrographics (which since its just a decal, it's not) or precision painting of an actual console/gamepad, I wouldn't recommend buying. Think special edition 360 controllers, the official ones, they're high quality and it's not just some decal. This just screams cheap and a waste of money.

Edit: But I haven't purchased from them before so I can't judge them. This is from their site:

DecalGirl skins are made of premium automotive-grade cast vinyl with a special adhesive backing to prevent air bubbles during installation and leave no residue when removed. Our skins are strong but super thin, measuring about 5 mil total - or five thousandths (0.005) of an inch - that's thin! It also means they'll work with just about any kind of dock, charger or case on the market.

http://support.decalgirl.com/customer/portal/articles/529937

I do wish the best of luck to anyone who pays $20 for this, but I still wouldn't recommend it unless you have money to burn and don't mind ending up putting the decal in the trash if the aforementioned issues arise.

#144816 What is the Cause of Slow Load's for Wii U?

Posted by bornsupercharged on 06 December 2012 - 08:21 PM in Wii U Hardware

Its just a bit of a drag if you are wanting to switch between the running game and Miiverse several times in a short period.

If I want to pause a game to view my friends list, I am used to it being instant after years of Xbox 360 gaming.

Precisely.

#144605 XL HD Gamepad

Posted by bornsupercharged on 06 December 2012 - 01:05 PM in Wii U Hardware

The fact the Wii U can only have two controllers mean adding an ARM CPU in the gameplay could help with getting two more GamePad's.

Adding a CPU into the GamePad is not going to help render additional images... that's a problem with the Wii U itself, not the GamePad. You see, the Wii U plays the games and it processes all the information and sends a rendered picture stream to the GamePad for DISPLAY ONLY. What you're wanting them to do, is have the Wii U send raw data and information to the GamePad and let the GamePad process and render the image. Trust me, that isn't going to work out as well as you're thinking it will. And as for the battery life, adding a larger battery would be negated by adding a processor which is tasked with doing the aforementioned.

#144500 Slow loads not really

Posted by bornsupercharged on 06 December 2012 - 08:47 AM in Wii U Hardware

Maybe not for you. It's long for me and a lot of others.

Hmm looks like my intent didn't come across correctly.
I was intending to say 15 seconds is long, hence counting to 15 mississippi takes longer than loading a menu should.

#144499 XL HD Gamepad

Posted by bornsupercharged on 06 December 2012 - 08:45 AM in Wii U Hardware

A GamePad+ will be available in two years, it will have a larger battery, an HD screen, and an ARM processor to help the Wii U stream HD video. And i woukd buy one.

Sorry but with all my years knowing Nintendo, this is not going to happen. Larger batteries/extended batteries have already been announced by at least one 3rd party manufacturer.
No HD screen because it's cost prohibitive on a console that is retailing at $200. Not only would the screen have a higher resolution and thus cost more to produce, but you get into unknown realm of potential app fragmentation - think Android OS. My Nexus 7 tablet can't run all the apps/games because the resolution isn't supported. So let's say CoD BO2, the way they did their menu system or whatever for the GamePad, let's say they made it to be the price resolution of the Gamepad because there was no reason to make it a higher resolution. If a Gamepad+ comes out with higher resolution, it's going to either have to downscale anyway OR stretch the image - one is pointless the other sucks. Nintendo also mentioned there's not any processing going on in the Wii U Gamepad itself.. sorry but they did this on purpose and it's because they want the Gamepad to be attached to the Wii U, they didn't intend for it to have its own processing capabilities or for it to be a standalone device. So these just aren't going to happen. Sorry.

#144477 Slow loads not really

Posted by bornsupercharged on 06 December 2012 - 07:06 AM in Wii U Hardware

I was not comparing current technology with something 20 years ago, i was given an example of what a slow load time is, 15 seconds isnt long when you really think about it,

15 seconds isn't that long? Read what I write:
1 Mississippi
2 Mississippi
3 Mississippi
4 Mississippi
5 Mississippi
6 Mississippi
7 Mississippi
8 Mississippi
9 Mississippi
10 Mississippi
11 Mississippi
12 Mississippi
13 Mississippi
14 Mississippi
15 Mississippi

Now your Wii U is in System Settings. Now count to 20 Mississippi and you can be back on the home screen. Fun, isn't it? Perhaps it's so much fun they actually wanted this to be a game!

#144024 New Nintendo Direct confirmed for tomorrow.

Posted by bornsupercharged on 05 December 2012 - 09:41 AM in Wii U Hardware

Was pretty disappointing to say the least

I disagree, pretty disappointing says it all.

#144014 New Update right now?!

Posted by bornsupercharged on 05 December 2012 - 09:27 AM in Wii U Hardware

I haven't noticed any differences since I installed it. Load times are still as slow, probably slower.

Yep. I was expecting the Nintendo Direct to address it, but nope they would rather spend 10min on game trailers, 10min on google maps, and the rest on the 3DS. Basically this wasn't Nintendo being Direct about anything.

The whole ND was pointless.

#143939 New Update right now?!

Posted by bornsupercharged on 05 December 2012 - 06:43 AM in Wii U Hardware

I haven't updated yet, but I just hopped over to IGN and some people say it's faster while some people say it's not. Is it possible that people could experience significantly different load times within the start up menus and MiIverse.....I don't get it.

It's a placebo effect, you want to believe something is faster. But I timed it, going into System Settings and back out is identical, loading into the eShop and Miiverse are all identical. I dont know why people are claiming Miiverse is any faster, it's not.

I don't doubt that they fixed some bugs, tweaked some things, perhaps trojan'd some new functionality such as TVii into the Wii U without telling us, so that when they enable it it's instantly there - but that might just be wishful thinking.

Here's what Nintendo IS saying about 2.1.0:

Version 2.1.0 U
Released: December 4, 2012
Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

#143927 Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed Patch v1.1.1

Posted by bornsupercharged on 05 December 2012 - 05:31 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It's officially up

Yeah I woke up and turned my console on and went to start Sonic and voila, updating :)

Just checked, the boost modes are fixed now!

#143822 Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed Patch v1.1.1

Posted by bornsupercharged on 04 December 2012 - 08:42 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Options says 1.1 and I'm still floating Luke a damn idiot on the burning ranger sprint . Just gonna trade this game in I cant stand this anymore

1.1.0 or 1.1.1? Because I still haven't got the 1.1.1 update. Dunno if you're in Europe or not, but I'm in the US.

haven't gotten the patch yet... but a system update started when i changed the time (just realized i had it set 12 hours fast). it's like 593 MB or something. so is this the patch or is it a system update for the Wii U?

That huge update is for the Wii U itself, not for this Sonic racing game.

System update to improve stability

Update hasn't released yet so it's a false alarm. We were just lied to again no biggie.

They said it'd be a few hours about 12 hours ago, now they said it could be tomorrow.

#143801 New Update right now?!

Posted by bornsupercharged on 04 December 2012 - 08:12 PM in Wii U Hardware

I'm in UK Updating right now, how is it what does it do?

It makes the console look for external hard drives on boot, which is nice. Other than that, um - nothing I can tell. Probably stability fixes?

#143788 Slow loads not really
