To be honest Im thinking your making way too many assumptions here.None of the stuff Im reading on teh internets is the same as what you are saying.Also if (and that a big if) retail discs were not used by one of the new consoles then they would be replaced by retail boxes with download voucher for game inside.Also before you get carried away wishing death upon sony or ms new console you need to realise tha it can just as easily be nintendo that struggles this gen.
Looking at the 70million plus installed userbase of both ps3 and xbox lets assume that 1 in 20 pre orders their preferred console (and I think those numbers will prove to be way low) that would give eaither console a possible "launch" sales of 3.5 milllion (similar to wiiu).Also this will mean that a lot of people who traditionally buy more than one console couldl be forced into making a choice between the new xbox new ps3 or the wiiu..This cannot mean good things for the wiiu consoles prospects of becoming or staying number 1.Lots of people traditionally with money to spend on consoles/games will be holding it next year for the launch of ms or sony new console.
I see everyone quick to talk about ms or sonys flaws but not as quick to talk about what they do right.For instance ms xbox live is THE best (albeit paid) online service available.I also see one poster saying ms have nothing to do with games and as such only want money.Wow I can remember a time when all sony made was vhs players,walkmans and tvs.Surely they too have nothing to do with games?I welcome them both because they provide the competition that keeps the others on their toes.Gaming would be very boring if it were run by mostly long defunct companies,forget the heritage its about the willingness to take the risk and spend the money needed.This idea that nintendo cares about gaming because its what they have always done is rubbish.They are a company with profit margins and shareholders just like any other it is all about the bottom line.
I see there being room (just about) for three consoles this gen but someone no doubt will come off worse.I think its very blind of all of you to assume it will be ms or sony.

Why then are they quite obviously neglecting the third party devs?I mean he did say internal and external?It seems like a case of him saying "we" have a lot of ideas but you third party devs can jog on.Dont appreciate the direction nintendo taking with the wii u its almost beginning to resemble the original wii when it comes to third party devs and titles, Nintendo taking care of their own.Some people are saying look nintendo left it open for third party devs to release.Well yeah that and they had not much ready is more likely.Within a year all the top titles will be nintendo ip I reckon.Can see why some would like that but its not for me.Its a huge shame that nintendo didnt/dont go all out to get full multiplatform support because with the timing of the new consoles they coud have been home and hosed by the time they came to market.Instead I fear that nintendo will saell to the same sector of the market (people wanting all nintendo 1st party titles) that they always have instead of everyone.Just my rather pessimistic analysis

Very easy to see one or the other company achieving better sales with the right marketing and launch titles.Unlike nintendo you can be assured that even now ms and sony are bending over backwards to accomodate the big third party devs.For this reason one or the other of these consoles will surely launch with an all new battlefield or call of duty title amongst others to show off the new tech and get the existing fanbase of these type of titles onboard.Could easily be the difference between the wiiu launch sales and something more.
I see some are saying that the new consoles will be prohibitively dear, I dont think so both ms and sony will have done extensive research into pricing and have watched the wiiu launch data as well.In the uk I would expect (realistically) to pay around 400 pounds for one of these new consoles.Having paid 329 for my wiiu I think its reasonable that hard core/and or new fans will find the extra 70/100/120 for one of these.Also sony will be pricing keener than ever I think as they will see the launch price of the ps3 as one of their biggest mistakes last gen.

If the specs rumored are true and this appears before the next xbox then I will buy this day 1.Also although KAz hirai said they would make a move after ms his hand may have been forced by other factors.The specs look good now they might not in 15 months I think they realise they have to get it out the door asap.I had said I wouldnt go back to ps after the hacking debacle but I may be willing to overlook that.I will purchase whichever console comes out next irrespective of if its ms or sony.I also think this is defo the ps4 announcement as the last two like this were vita/ps3.

As a huge bf3 fan I have been hanging in every (official) word on this and there isnt any confirmation at all anywhere.Also EA do not look like a company doing their best to bring all triple aaa titles to wiiu.I wouldnt bank on playing any battlefield title on wiiu if it comes great but at the minute no word from anywhere.Today bf4 was officially announced by dice but no mention of formats yet

I have looked at this thread and am of the opinion that your pc is outdated.Have built 3 pcs myself and a couple myself.Depends mostly what sort of budget you have and what you can reuse.If you were to put a figure on your spend and what you intend to play it would be easier for the people in this thread to evaluate where the money would be best spent.
A10 apu in computing functions alone almost matches an i3 3220
However if intending to have a seperate gpu then intel is the best choice
the inbuilt graphics should enable you to play any current game
As an ugpgrade path you can stick a discrete gpu 6670 (around 50 pounds in uk) for dual grapics this gives a 35% approx boost to your graphics using crossfire tech.This may help keep your proposed rig current for a lot longer than the two years you state.

Not really they are both competing with ms and their dx11 license and tools.Maybe makes sense seeing as both platforms (steam box,and orbis/ps4)are rumored to run a form of Linux

These specs are nice,this along with the rumors that it will be running Linux in some form are very interesting.Anyone think that Sony will partner with steam for this console?I think they will it just makes sense and would enable them to get the maximum out of Linux as a gaming platform.Currently ps3 can access steam (albeit limited).

Erm yeah sorry bout that ,

Let me break it down for everyone, the 3rd party devs are backing off by the week,nintendo have experience of going it without them and sometimes winning.However this is not what I thought would happen when I payed my money and would not have bought the console had I have known.Before the fanboys get the torches and noose out let me explain.I come to the wii u by way of 25 years of gaming before and have done the mario thing,and to an extent the zelda thing.Have no interest in pokemons (red,black,platinum aaah forget it).Dont like jrpgs.I expected to get the multiplatform titles as well as first party titles not one or the other.As good as the existing titles I own are I sold an xbox to buy the wiiu and did not then expect the newer console to be treated like the poor relation of the console world.First bad sign was the lack of info on blops 2 dlc,then gearbox farming aliens out to demiurge and now this.Its a shame because the tech is great and I like it,however I wont appreciate the apparent lack of fps and my wiiu at the minute is on borrowed time.No battlefield 4 ?Activision wont be back with cod if they cant even get the blops dlc sorted.I can see me buying one of the other consoles probably whichever launches first as the type of games I mostly play are being left out in the cold by nintendo.Whoever is in charge of relations with 3rd party devs at nintendo needs sacked urgently

Just making an overall reference to EAs big AAA titles not being confirmed and/or appearing on the wiiu, given the current situation there is no way they will bring battlefield 4 to wiiu and unfortunately for me that is the title that makes it a deal breaker 
Aware that crysis never was announced but that now seems to be the trend from EA (with the exception of nfs)

Wow I dont know how to take this,I envisioned the wii u as a replacement for the other consoles in the house.Obviously I need to have a rethink.Really sickening to be honest that the newest console treated like this, something seriously wrong just lately with the wii u as far as devs concerned.Feels as though the 3rd party already not liking Nintendo for some reason (probably because they wont pander to them like sony and ms?).Anyway the next two to three months will decide what role the wii u plays in my house.Not impressed considering the money I paid to be honest thought Nintendo was going to bring the 3rd party back proper not with half assed support and a cant be bothered attitude when it comes to the 3rd party.No wonder EA backed off early.Only really NFS they seem to be pushing no bf4 announcement or crysis 3

In all likelihood should be no problem technically for the wiiu to run frostbite 2,however the problem is that at the minute EA seems to be treating the wiiu like a leper.No medal of honor,no crysis 3 and no (as of yet) confirmation of BF4.This is bad and before people get started about the games there are instead,there are at least two of the ones I mentioned that would have been real AAA titles for anyone who plays fps

here in the uk / Ireland EDGE is usually fairly respected, cannot say they usually pan nintendo for much if anything I see them being more criticial of ms and sony for the lack of first party ip.However having seen both the nintendo direct and the article in question I dont think its as "wrong" or "biased" as people make out.I wanted some word on the blops 2 dlc and maybe some confirmation that we see battlefield 4 from ea on the wii u.Good and all as some of the news was it just just didnt move me.I mean Iwata himself said he apologised for the lack of titles in january and february so that in itself is enough for journalists to run with.I mean jeez sensationlist is what pays their wages

I would bend over backwards to accomodate all the 3rd party devs and publishers like sony and ms do,knowing that if the 3rd party is taken care of the 1st party stuff will make the platform successful.Either on their own wont make an uber successful console.Also I would like to see nintendo make some 1st party games that are a bit more adult orientated a la uncharted.

Sort of the same mindset here,this was to be the replacement for my xbox not a companion for it.i really hope the dlc for blops along with a confirmation for bf4 are in the works otherwise I will be getting the first of the other next gen consoles whichever it is.I know they wont screw up the AAA titles being available sad but true that I am seriously considering the wiiu being in my possession.I like the tech an awful lot however my issues are with the software announcements (or lack of) and the dlc issues that only seem to affect wiiu.I wont pay this much money to be made a second class citizen of gaming wise.Already games I know we wont get or there are issues with on wiiu is quite a comprehensive list.Too many games that I would like to have seen are unnanounced for wiiu.This dlc drama with blops 2 on wiiu needs sorted asap, or I think we all know what it will do to activisions ambitions for anymore cod on the wiiu
