I give it at least 5 years, or even 3, depending how things turn out in the future. Gaming has become more accepted into the cultural landscape (or at least American) than I ever seen in the past. Trust me, over a decade ago, after the Columbine incident, it was a frustrating and a dark time to be a gamer, as I had to defend my hobby from every adult who had the mentality that before gaming, the world was a happy place, with rainbow skies, shining meadows, and chocolate rivers where puppies and children laugh and dance with gumdrop smiles. But now, I'm seeing various media mentioning games like Halo, Grand Theft Auto, and Call of Duty in a more positive light than ever before. You'll have the occasional moral crusader or completely misguided politicians like Senator Leland Yee decry gaming to be "harmful" to our children, but the ones who grew up during the Gen-X era are superseding the older generation, so we will be seeing more people who are well-informed about gaming.

However, just because the general population views gaming positively, doesn't mean they are incredibly astute about it. Popularity denotes neither good nor bad. The general mass, for the most part, are mindless. Case in point: Justin Bieber.

#40921 Shenmue 3?

Posted by Biohazard on 04 November 2011 - 10:22 PM in General Gaming

Shenmue was so unique in its presentation and gameplay that it kept me interested for a great amount of time. And It was the first game I saw that used quick-time events (way before God of War). However, I never tried the sequel, but would like to.

#40920 Steve Jobs more Influential then Miyamoto, What!?

Posted by Biohazard on 04 November 2011 - 10:04 PM in General Gaming

Thankfully, we're not the only ones who are outraged by this.

Apple has such an influence on society that it has pretty much led most of the media and the public into taking the smartphone gaming market more seriously than consoles, even though it doesn't have any titles that has as much quality and immersion as consoles and handhelds. Remember that SlashGear article that claimed the iPhone 5 is going to kill the 3DS even though Apple has yet to announce it (the iPhone 4S was announced instead)?

I am not doubting Steve Job's legacy on the smartphone market, but if he is qualified to be an influential figure in the gaming industry, shouldn't the Android designers, Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, and Chris White be on there too? Android is gobbling up almost half the smartphone market share, and if Walter Isaacson's biography on Jobs is to be believed, it was the late Apple co-founder's Moby Dick.

#31015 Darksiders II developer on Wii U controller streaming

Posted by Biohazard on 22 September 2011 - 03:37 PM in Wii U Hardware

This is pretty old news... And why I've been saying that the current rumors are groundless >.>

...Though that article was just released today. Sum it up for me: Is it adding more info while pointing back to the old, or is it just playing catch-up?

I don't remember Virgil Games specifically talking about the controller. I only remembered them saying they got the game working on the general hardware in five weeks.

#31009 Darksiders II developer on Wii U controller streaming

Posted by Biohazard on 22 September 2011 - 03:04 PM in Wii U Hardware

"Our one and only goal once we got the Wii U hardware was to get Darksiders II running on it. We didn't even have running the game on the touch screen on our 'to do' list. but once we got it running, we just fooled around with getting it on the touch screen as a lark. It took all of five minutes and two lines of code, and boom! - there was the entire game running on the controller. Amazing."

Contra: Shattered Soldier - "Venus"

#30380 -

Seeing Crytek endorse the Wii U is very endearing to say the least. A lot of skeptics are thinking the Wii U may end up like the Wii, but there's really no way you can even see this in the same light when a company that is known for making high-end middelwares positively comments on the Wii U's specs. Every developer virtually ignored the Wii's processing power because it was inadequate in handling modern engines -- at their preferred scale at least.

Probably one like mine. :P

Actually, I'm not even sure if -my- PC could take Crysis 3.

Crysis 3? Pfft. Try Crysis 4! Your PC will miraculously jump out the window on its own if you even think about buying a retail copy or downloading it from E.A's Origin.

#29422 Naming

Posted by Biohazard on 17 September 2011 - 04:43 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't think Nintendo does that anymore. Whenever you see a "U" suffix after any title, it's usually tentative, a way for gamers to identify the game for the platform until it is fully unveiled -- like The Legend of Zelda Revolution back when the Wii was called the "Revolution". Nintendo will most likely only add the "U" suffix on casual titles like Wii Sports, while the bigger and hardcore titles will have an appropriate name.

Eh, I've never been able to forgive Ninty for ruining Dinosaur Planet, but DKR is a fantastic game! Rare's fallen off the map, but Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Viva Piñata are excellent games developed during the post-buyout era.

...I feel my introduction's been drawn out a bit by now.

I don't think Grabbed by the Ghoulies was excellent although I can see it's a guilty pleasure for most.

#26592 Monster Hunter Tri G & second 3DS slide pad confirmed!

Posted by Biohazard on 06 September 2011 - 10:03 PM in General Gaming

The second slide has been confirmed.

On one hand, I'm glad Nintendo didn't redesign the 3DS. On the other, I'm not sure how many games will support the peripheral. Nintendo normally doesn't force developers to make games with their devices. I can live with one slide pad, as I did with the PSP.

#24194 is nintendo being cheap?

Posted by Biohazard on 26 August 2011 - 01:01 AM in Wii U Hardware

funny to me now that there are reports of the Wii U dev kits having problems... why you might ask because of Nintendo using CHEAP PARTS! so i guess it is what it is.

That was a long time ago. The developers were using unfinished and underclocked kits. If you were talking about the 001.net rumor, the problems stem from the controller, not the overall hardware! It's still going through prototype phases and we are still eons away from its projected release! Besides, all consoles use relatively cheap and outdated hardware, anyway. The Xbox 360's and PS3's hardware used 5-6 year old graphics cards. Like I mentioned before, switch to PC if you're so damned concerned about tech!

#23323 is nintendo being cheap?

Posted by Biohazard on 22 August 2011 - 10:08 AM in Wii U Hardware

Nintendo DO make games consoles, but all im saying is in the future people will want less clutter and gadgets will have to do more than one job. Nintendo will have to address that and come up with a new way to get into peoples homes that takes up less space, how long do u think it will be before dvds n blu rays will be gone and we download all our entertainment? Not long, and video games will go the same way. Do u not agree?

A basic entertainment setup consists of a television set (LCD/LED/Plasma HDTV's), a DVD/Blu-Ray player, and a gaming console. How is that cluttered? Do you think the Wii U should also be an AV reciever?

#23277 E3 2012... im a little worries.

Posted by Biohazard on 22 August 2011 - 03:57 AM in Wii U Hardware

you guys are clueless!

Even if Microsoft unveils a console that dwarfs the Wii U in tech, the pricing, quality of titles, and sales are the real factors to its performance. Keep in mind, Microsoft (as well as Sony) tends to over-market their products, and their fanboys will always it up, rub it in everyone's faces, and declare it to be the equivalent of the cure for AIDS. History has shown that powerful consoles don't always win out. Take a look at the PSP and the PS3. When these platforms were unveiled, everybody hyped them to the second coming of Christ! However, when they launched, it was a whole other story. So even if Microsoft makes a huge splash at E3 2012, it will only be short-term. Once all the next-gen consoles are on the shelf, E3 2012, like the past E3 events, will be nothing more than a distant memory. We will all look at E3 2012 compared to how the Xbox 720 actually does with such amusement and derision in how we bought into the over-hype.

Seriously, tech seems to be the only concern instead of the quality of the games. Might I suggest upgrading your PC? It's always light-years ahead of consoles.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Song of Healing (orchestrated version)

#23260 Asura's Wrath

Posted by Biohazard on 22 August 2011 - 02:42 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It looks really cool. I'd actually prefer it if it was a bit more serious but the art style is still really good. It's like a sort of large scale stylistic/realistic mashup.

The over-the-top style could be the ticket for the game's success, assuming Capcom play their cards right unlike what E.A. did with BulletStorm and Shadows of the Damned. Too many games these days have gotten too melancholy and pretentious, and this may finally be a welcoming change.

#23244 Gamescom 2011 - Some Videos

Posted by Biohazard on 21 August 2011 - 09:13 PM in General Gaming

I actually don't think Revelations will look that good, just remember that all of the official pics and videos have had the jaggies removed.

Most 3DS footage are off-screen and barely show the 3D effect, and yet they still look good. From where I'm standing, Resident Evil: Revelations looks much like Resident Evil 5, and with the 3D effect, the aliasing won't be much of an issue for most gamers. The release date is still a long way, so Capcom has plenty of time to polish the game.

#22631 What Anime Would You Want Turned Into A Movie

Posted by Biohazard on 18 August 2011 - 07:08 AM in The Café

If we're talking about live-action adaptations then none. Hollywood hasn't been doing very well with live-action adaptations of American cartoons, which leaves doubt if they should touch anime. There are talks of a live-action adaptation of Akira and they're picking Caucasian actors like Robert Pattinson or Zac Efron into the movie.
