#259081 Wii U, The Worst Holiday Gift This Season.

Posted by Dharmanator on 04 December 2013 - 11:21 PM in Wii U Hardware

The Wii U is actually the best choice for Christmas!

Why? Because of the short term gains due only to the fact it was out a year earlier? It its a complete waste of money unless all you wish to play are Nintendo games. The future is much brighter overall with the PS 4.

The PS 4 may not be a must buy right now. I give you that. But to advise investing in a Wii U if they don't know the lack of long term 3 rd party support is bad advice.

The Wii U is a niche system for gamers who like Nintendo products. It is a second system at best.

#259079 How many people do you are going to buy a Wii for Christmas?

Posted by Dharmanator on 04 December 2013 - 11:14 PM in Wii U Hardware

Ummm... with the PS 4 and the other one available, we can officially rename it the Wii Y.

I know one guy who bought one last year.

No one I know wants one now.

It is truly a lost cause. Well except for the Nintendo faithful such as myself.

#257189 COD Ghosts, how does it look?

Posted by Dharmanator on 20 November 2013 - 05:08 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Its also been confirmed that it has performance issues. Honestly its pretty suprising that the PS4, the most straight forward hardware design in consoles history has any troubles at running Ghost in 1080p 60fps, but apparently the framerate is all over the place. Wii U is far from locked 60fps as well, but PS4 was supposed to be the monster that would have no issue with 1080p 60fps, and so far its not quite as easy to achieve as people had hoped. Rich at ReviewtechUSA made mention that the Wii U version of Ghost performs quite a bit better than Ghost on PS3, still waiting for a comparison of the 360 version. Treyarch has faithfully brough Ghost to Wii U, and are still working on further optimizations to make it better.

Ghost is not a visual masterpiece, but dont let the haters fool you, its not a bad looking game either. Yes there are some low res textures, but the scope of this COD is quite a bit larger than COD has been in the past. I think in some ways IW bit off more than they could chew and some compromises were made, but overall I really feel like the changes they made were all for the better.

As far as the PS4 version, I found this funny:

#256825 Will the Wii U survive next-gen

Posted by Dharmanator on 18 November 2013 - 09:36 AM in Wii U Hardware

To answer the OP: No.

To answer the arguments going on around here: Nintendo may not beat the PS4 in overall sales with the Wii U, but at least they'll manage to turn a profit on their games division.

Wow. That is what I have been saying for 9 months now. You just say it nicely.

Though I think I did it like this:

"No way in Hell Wii U will compete with PS4 in sales or third party support. But Nintendo doesn't give a crap. They will make a ton of money with their games (9 of top 10 Wii games are Nintendo and 2/3 of top 30).

If you bought it for anything more than 1st party games you are screwed.

20-30 million units is all Nintendo needs to still make money off the Nintendo faithful. It is and always will be the second or third console of choice. "

I need to work on my people skills.

It's sad because Sony are losing. :'(

No you don't.
You've never had a positive thing to say about the console.
When someone notices you're a nintendo-hater, you curl back up into a "but i love nintendo i has wii u i r one of u :'(" bs response.

Sony is losing? !

Ok...

As far as being a hater, I had high hopes for the console.

Hell, I was the one who coined the "month of Uvember"

But once we saw the specs Nintendo kept hidden (for good reason), and all we could expect was no real 3 rd party support and mostly Mario rehashes we knew the "core gamer" thing was a joke.

Nintendo delivered a weak console with a gimmick controller nobody bought into.

As I always said. .. who cares? Nintendo consoles are for Nintendo games. Period. That isn't hate. It is where the evidence goes. I recommend it to anyone who wants Zelda or Mario. But that isn't everyone.

X, Bayonetta, and W101 are good exclusives. But I doubt they will be console sellers.

WWHD was a huge let down for me. A port of a ten year old game will not. ..DID not move systems. Big shock.

i was actually hoping for a fight response just so i can fight for the heck of it.

Not much to fight about really. I can pretend though.

I can pretend to hate the Wii U. But it is hard. I do like it. Pikmin 3 is a blast. W101 was a refreshing change for me. So you are right At the moment there are some good games coming.

But, with infamous second son, Destiny, and what appears to be the best watch dogs, it will be impossible for Wii U to keep up.

The last thing I want now it's a Mario game.

I am guessing my next game for Wii U may be X or Zelda.

Oh yeah. .. where is a Wii U Minecraft? Funny as it sounds, I would buy that version of it if it used the gamepad! But I will have to make due with the PS4 version. I am hoping it is Vita second screen compatible.

that got defensive very quick. for better games i was talking about right now, i know it had worse games at launch but wiiU has a better line up atm. sales fegures is something everyone expected, but i do expect alot of people to complain expecting sonys BS 16mil number and similar. killzone from everything i heard and seen ended up as a generic shooter. Knack ended up as a platformer showing graphics, with little artistic value, and comparably lower gameplay quality to many platformers.

Micheal Packher, however you spell is name, not yet realizing the exact opposite of what he says always come true guarentting 9mil wiiU's sold. just for the spike to end when the wiiU ends its lifecycle as the second legand of zelda is released on wiiU (windwaker was first) do to the tradition of zelda marking the beginning and end of every nintendo consul.

Sorry if I came out to strong. I have a strong opinion on the Wii U and the place Nintendo has created for itself in the market place.

I love the Wii U. I wanted it to succeed and be better then it is. But right now I see it as a 3 rd place console at about 20-30 million lifetime sales. This is fine. It is a second console for most and for 1st party games. Any mm idea that it will compete with PS or Xbone is fantasy.

Step 1. Remove the incredibly long stick of defensive sony fanboy butthurt from yourself.

Step 2. Accept the fact that your precious PS4 is being outsold by incredibly large margins, by the inferior dead Nintendo Wii U/paperweight nonetheless.

Step 3. Take a step back and look objectively at the scenario we have before us; Christmas is around the corner, We have the PS4 (and most likely the Xbox One) sold out everywhere right before the holiday shopping. The Christmas shopping parent walks into the store and cant find either console, but she does see a reasonably priced Wii U along with a timely released Mario game.

Step 4. Watch Nintendo Profit and Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto skip all the way to the bank (Wizard of Oz style)

Step 5. Question your life's meaning and purpose for having to go onto a Nintendo fanboy website and rage about how a Sony console is better

Step 6. Reread this post so that it sinks in before you rage with a irrelevant sony fanboy rage post. (Once the cycle is repeated eight times continue on to step 7)

Step 7. Come to the realization that sales mean absolutely nothing in regards to which console is better in terms of enjoyment.

Step 8. Purchase the Mitch's Guide to a Better Life Handbook from amazon for 4 easy payments of $19.99

Wow. One of the best strings of nonsense I have ever seen. Good for a laugh though. Thank you!

#256638 wii u sale increase ?

Posted by Dharmanator on 17 November 2013 - 10:50 AM in Wii U Hardware

Un-biased people would.

No, they bought a PS4 on launch because they want sson'ys turkey inside their tight pre-teen assholes.
They don't want Nintendo's turkey at all.

Will someone decipher this? It doesn't sound pleasant though.

Wii U has sold almost 3 million more units than the P4 and more than 3.9 million units more than the X1.

That is the saddest post I have read in a long time. 1 year later and that is it? There are about 3 months left and we won't even be able to say that.

since reports there is a brick rate of 40-50% of ps4 on amazon.
do you guys think parents will be hesitant to buy a ps4 and buy a wii u or xboxone instead

First off, only an idiot would believe that number. People with bad consoles have the right to complain. But to assume people with working consoles are also all posting is silly. Numbers are skewed and Xbox fanboys will be posting bogus complaints sure.

depends how much people relize there are no games on PS4 or xbox1 atm to warrent a new consul. PS4s exclusives turned out to be crap so far. X1 seems to only have 1 meaningful exclusive with the rest being simply okay or crap from early reviews. everything else is a multiplat with a texture+effects upgrade.

First off Killzone isn't crap. Knack actually is fun and if you play it on hard instead of easy (like a reviewer) it is challenging.

I for one waited for the PS4 version of the multiplat games. I waited less thsn a month, unlike the Wii U which had 1 year old ports. Don't go down that road.

Also, the PS4 has sold 1 million in 24 hours. It took Wii U one week to sell 425, 000.

There are better games to play for this launch than Wii U had by far IMO. I can safely say this because I had both at launch and the PS4 had better games.

Heck, as a PS+ subscriber I got 2 free new games. Resogun and Contrast.

As expected I would rather play AC4 and COD on the PS4. Better resolution and graphics and all.

PS4
Killzone
Assassins Creed
Knack
COD Ghosts

#256204 Assassin creed 4 is out on wii u if anybody noticed.

Posted by Dharmanator on 14 November 2013 - 03:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

IGN have a comparison up that shows the differences more clearly.

The PS3 looks terrible IMO, much more blurry than the 360 version. As already surmised, the Wii U version is clearly somewhere between 360 and PS4 in quality, things like the rain effect is much better than 360 but not in the league of the PS4. That said the PS4 version is not exactly mind blowing, but that is to be expected when its a launch game that is also on current gen consoles.

It may not be Mind blowing (PS4) but it had a hell of alot more detail than the Wii U. Water, weather, clothing. And that was noticeable on the compressed video. I am sure it will be much more striking in person.

http://cnettv.cnet.c...3-50158783.html

“We’ve waited a long time for this dud,” he begins. “Nintendo has already slashed the price down to $300, and I’m willing to bet that it’ll be on firesale by the time the holidays role around. But trust me, there are only two game consoles anyone wants this year. And Wii U isn’t one of them, sorry guys.”

Well this is harsh. Wii U has a chance to pick up this winter and spring, and if people actually listen to cnet this won't help. It is pretty much total bs though.

This is obviously crap. Rich from reviewtechUSA has a perfect opinion up now on youtube. Perfect because it sounds like what I have been saying for over 6 months.

They had 1 year to set themselves apart. They did not.

Good games are coming out now, but nobody gives a rainbow because the promise of the more hyped machines is here.

But to make it to any list of worst holiday gift is just stupid.

#255246 PS4 to suffer same fate as wii u

Posted by Dharmanator on 09 November 2013 - 07:01 AM in Wii U Hardware

On July 9, 2007, Sony announced the 80 GB PlayStation 3 model for North America, bundled with MotorStorm,[4] to be available beginning August 6, 2007.[5][6][7] In addition, Sony announced a price drop in which the 60 GB model would sell for US$499.[4]

On July 12, 2007, SCEE announced a Starter Pack bundle in Europe, including a second SIXAXIS controller and two first-party titles from a given selection, to sell at the same price as the standalone model.

On October 10, 2007, the 40 GB PlayStation 3 model was released in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In Europe, the 40 GB model had a price of €399.99. The 60 GB Starter Pack received a reduction in price to €499[13] except in Britain, where the Starter Pack will be replaced by a £349 Value Pack with two first party games (Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man) and one SIXAXIS controller

On November 2, 2007, the 40 GB model was released in North America for US$399/CAD$399, with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray as a pack-in.[16]

On February 26, 2008, Sony announced at Destination PlayStation, during a retailers conference, that they will be releasing a 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle PS3 that includes the 80GB PS3, a copy of MGS4, and a DualShock 3 controller.

On June 12, 2008, Sony released a 80GB PS3 Bundle which has Metal Gear Solid 4, along with a DualShock 3 controller, and a voucher for a free download of the PlayStation Network game, Pain.

n August 20, 2008, Sony announced at the Leipzig Games Convention that they will be releasing a 160GB PS3 bundle which includes Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, along with a DualShock 3 controller, and a voucher for a free download of the PlayStation Network game, Pain.

In July 2009, in North America, Sony released a PS3 bundle with Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, and a DualShock 3 controller.[19]

n August 17, 2010, the 160GB PS3 slim previously released in Japan was announced for North America during Gamescom 2010. The 320GB model was also announced to be headed for NA, but it will come with Move and Sports Champion.

Am I going to have to post the 360 sku timeline as well?

You did not pull that from your bottom.

But, let's not include downloads and movies. I doubt the numbers will be close to the 100 million of Wii sports pack in. Plus you could still get the PS3 with no game.

Point is I am not going to allow a 1.5 games per system modifier. I would think more like .5.

#255206 PS4 to suffer same fate as wii u

Posted by Dharmanator on 08 November 2013 - 11:30 PM in Wii U Hardware

if I recall correctly the PS3 and the Xbox 360 also came in some bundles. Shortly after launch they discontinued the no-bundle version and I remember bundles with more than one game. And remember that stupid game that came with the Kinect Xbox bundle? In fact, currently the Xbox 360 comes in two bundles, each with two games. if we assume that both the Xbox 360 and PS3 had on average one game bundled for each console sold (which I suspect is on the low side, maybe 1.5 or so), then that makes a dent in your argument

I will not assume that. You pulled that directly from your bottom.

Yeah Dharma, what's you beef with the Wii Mini? If you don't want one, then don't buy one. And if you think it will be a failure, then let the market back you up instead of making up excuses for why it should be a failure.

Actually I would find it quite hilarious if it outsold the Wii U.

What purpose does a stripped down Wii with no online capability and will not be supported any more, serve?

No one is buying a Wii U, so why are they wasting resources on a useless product that can be purchased for less and have more functionality simply by buying a used Wii?

2DS=great idea

Wii mini=not so great idea.

"Let's add to the confusion with something that doesn't fit what I want"

Obviously it sells enough to make them a profit, which is enough to justify its existence.

Mmmm. According to that logic then you support the sale of crack cocaine. I for one am against that, and stupid, overpriced consoles.

"Dad, this isn't a Wii U, it's a Wii Mini and a PlayStation Vita.."

Little Timmy's christmas was ruined.

Actually if it was a Vita TV it would be a great xmas. Unlike a Wii Mini, a Vita TV would be useful.

#255185 PS4 to suffer same fate as wii u

Posted by Dharmanator on 08 November 2013 - 08:03 PM in Wii U Hardware

It sold 3.5 million units during the holiday season. Sure it had little buzz, but how is that not a hit?

Now, let's talk about the so called "dust collector".
In its six year life cycle the Wii sold around 100 million units and around 900 million software units, which equates into approximately 9 games per system adoption rate, or 1.5 games per year.
In its seven year life cycle the PS3 sold around 80 million units and around 754 million software units, which equates into approximately 9.4 games per system adoption rate or 1.3 games per year.
In its eight year life cycle the Xbox 360 sold around 80 million units and around 829 million software units, which equates into approximately 10.4 games per system adoption rate or 1.3 games per year.

You could argue that the Wii didn't bring much interest to you in terms of its software library, but if you call that a dust collector, you're just being dumb.

And no third-party support? I suggest you take a good look at this: http://www.gengame.n...mproved-on-wii/

It's funny how the media can simply destroy the image of a console by making bold assumptions out of thin air, with no factual evidence supporting such claims. The Wii died prematurely compered to the HD twins because the media destroyed its image. Soon enough, publisher trust went down and so did support, sales and popularity. Nintendo just gave it the final blow in 2011 by just having Skyward Sword in the pipeline. They abandoned the system, which they had no other option but to do so in order to support the 3DS and prepare for the Wii U. Understaffed Nintendo is understaffed x)

Exactly. Launch sales are all fun and games until you realize there's little to no quality games in the short-term pipeline. It's always been like this, except this generation it feels that the gap between launch and the arrival of great quality games is even bigger. Maybe it's because there are less and less publishers in the industry, or maybe its because games take too much time to make right now, I don't know. Nevertheless, truth be said that the real test for a system is whether it can regain momentum or not, once the must-haves start flooding in (in which the Vita failed miserably and the Wii U is currently in purgatory).

Your Wii software figures are skewed off the bat due to the Wii Sports which came with each system, so you can take off 100 MILLION right there. And you called me dumb?

But nice try.

If we look at just the top 30 games sold about 2/3 are Nintendo games. And count for about 325 million of your 900 million number. And I just went to 30.

Hell, 9 of the top 10 are Nintendo with Just dance 3 being in at 10.

This is why no one is putting much effort into Wii U.

#255099 PS4 to suffer same fate as wii u

Posted by Dharmanator on 08 November 2013 - 07:11 AM in Wii U Hardware

The Wii U was a hit during the holiday season too (just below the 2006 Wii levels), and look at it now.

My point is that launch hype is a great way to start off, and I'm sure it will sell tons of systems. However, you guys have to ask yourselves this question, will Sony be able to keep that momentum, considering the post-launch drought, lack of innovation and absence of top-tier exclusive titles? I doubt that.

The whole situation just sounds too Wii U-ish and Vita-ish to me. We'll see.

The Wii U was in no way a hit during any season.

I fully expect the PS4 to sell close to 3 million during the holiday season. Even with Xbox competition.

There was very little buzz in comparison for the Wii U.

To me it is simply a case of Sony having the interest of the gaming community. Nintendo has not been taken seriously by gamers for a long time. I don't care about 100 million units of the Wii. Yes. Great accomplishment. But that will not be repeated again. Think howmany of then were dust collectors after the fad of waggle controls wore out. Lack of 3rd party support stems from this.

#254815 PS4 to suffer same fate as wii u

Posted by Dharmanator on 06 November 2013 - 01:20 PM in Wii U Hardware

the PS4 is going to sell as many units in the holiday season as Wii U sold in its whole first year. There's no denying that and it's okay. Nintendo needs to get their act together and unrealistic/antagonistic predictions about the other consoles aren't going to help. It just makes Wii U owners look desperate

No one here is going to lIsten to that!

A few months ago I made the prediction PS4 would surpass Wii U saled by the ends of March.

I was called crazy (but in a nice way).

For some reason people do not want to believe there is actual excitement for this coming system that just wasn't there for the Wii U.

So to the original topic, there is no easy the PS4 won't be a hit this holiday season.
