#289515 Zelda U graphics thoughts

http://www.nintendo-...itly-said-link/

Aonuma responded: “No one explicitly said that that was Link” followed by a smile and laugh. Connections to Link’s opening blue garb in The Wind Waker were also met with a smile, but the Zelda series producer wouldn’t be pushed for more information.

Maybe it is Link's long lost sister Linka, and we find out Ganon is their father. .. oh wait I am thinking Star wars.

Another thing I like about this style is the fact when people go for a more realistic look it always falls flat.

I like the feel when you are basically controlling a cartoon.

Feels less like a game and more like an experience.

Hard to explain but maybe someone knows what I mean.

Obviously there has to a border.

But when you get to the mountains will we be able to climb them?

For example most games use a mountain range to form as border so you can't enter an area until you pass dungeon, get gate key etc.

Always wanted to just climb over LOL.

We already knew it was in game.

Did anyone doubt it was in engine footage?

Oh right, people dont believe it because 'lol wii u'

The thought of cg didn't even cross my mind until this thread.

I just assumed since it was Nintendo we were seeing in game footage.

I think Link actually is a girl in this one. Or that might actually be Zelda. That cloak is highly reminescent of the one worn by zelda to hide her face in games like tp.

I dunno. Too early to say you are wrong. Looks male to me, But i am watching on a S3. Maybe I need a S5 or Note 3

No. The spinning ones in the air didnt shoot, nor did the spinning ones in the ground.

The enemy isnt a monster, its a hylian magical machination like an armos statue, or the guardian of the tower of the Gods, running rampant. It does fire EXACTLY the same type of projectiles, with the same impressive speed as Ghodan from wind waker, and looks very similar in design astetic, which is Hylian.

Its weakness is a crystal gem on the back of its turret, which link targets with the upgraded arrows (Bomb/fire arrows) at the end of the trailer.

Thanks for the clarification.

The part in the field looked perfectly Zelda to me, but the enemy was out of place and the action was way over the top. But I can't wait to see gameplay. This game will be a groundbreaking change for the series, definitely.

It has been ages. .. But weren't they spinning bad guys early on in the original that shot something at you? I think it was an updated version of that. A hell of a lot more intense!

Damn. I can't wait.

Can't wait to see the proper gameplay. Hope they at least show some more, unless they're waiting for e3 2015.

Yeah. The arrow attack looked good, But I couldn't tell if that was some kind of QuickTime event or a power up move or what.

I like compete control in combat, Not fire and forget moves.

I guess a special finishing move is okay, But they get old after a few.

Too early to tell. They probably just wanted something dramatic. That did work.

Look at Link's face.. and that enemy... it doesn't feel like Zelda at all...

But that scenery, holy rainbow. It's all I've ever wanted in a Zelda game.

I'm confused but excited.

As someone who has played Zelda since the NES days I can only share my thought that it feels very Zelda like to me.

This series has always changed its art style based on what they have for hardware really.

I saw a lone adventurer in a vast land being attacked by a what-the-hell.

What more do you need?

Oh. And he had a tunic and arrow.

I am sold.

Special edition for me please.

I think this style won't be very controversial at all.

I think it will do to the fact you will always and forever have the faction that wants the more "realistic" look.

Nintendo always does a great job of getting the most out of hardware limitations (like SS).

WW was awesome in my mind. But many disliked it because they wanted something different.

Same thing will happen here.

Funny thing is we just hear more about it due to the fact opinions can be so easily shared these days.

Holy gosh dang darn hellfire.

This looks absolutely awesome.

This will be controversial like WW for sure. I for one love the style and cel shaded look. Very vibrant and alive.

Well done Nintendo. Plus the arrow looks awesome.

Ok. .. this game looks awesome. But where is the rabid, frothing at the mouth need more pics hyper-super fan, gotta have more, let's talk about this game until we can't stand it anymore marketing?

This is our great game coming just for us.

Come on! We hear more about games on systems that aren't even out yet!

Let's see some links.

Hear some theories!

Drown ourselves in robot-human love.

I can start with some obvious stuff:

Sorry. .. at work. Can't do too much. But lets hype this thing up!

Our just ignore this and it will go away.

Yeah, both trailers are there the second trailer is on top.

But honestly, all the online video feeds are so bad, even in hd resolutions the compression completely destroys any detail the game has.

Watch it via the eshop's hq option on wii u once you get home. Its still by far the best quality of the trailer.

One of my links has an ign rewind theater with Keza McDonald and some dude breaking it down.

The video on that actually looks much better the the plain trailer I have seen. Check it out.

I want this to be a positive thread, but I seriously question Nintendo's marketing department. They really need to feed us this and "HD Zelda". Then they seem to exist and get people excited.

Nintendo is letting MSONY steal every ounce of thunder.

Kinda sucks.

But I will do everything possible to keep this thread alive! We need good news.

I have been guilty of being angry at some of the Wii U negatives.

This thread is my therapy. 8)

It's a year at least away, Nintendo don't usually advertise, or push things so far away.
Just look at zeldo for example.
It gets an image or confirmation, then a year or two later a few screenshots, a trailer, and then it's released rather quietly.

c#(c sharp) is microsoft's failed attempt at taking the best of java and c++ and making it into their own language.

Thanks for sharing the Nintendo recipe for failure. I was kinda hinting that the strategy sucks and they need to get their asses in gear.

Well here's a song parody I wrote for Monolith a couple years ago before the game was announced and they were in the planning stages. It was in an article where they were saying they wanted to show that Japan can compete with the West and that they'd like to make a game the size of Skyrim. Someone made a comment about them wanting to be the very best that no one ever was so I wrote this.

We want to be the very best
Like noone ever was.
To make games is my real test.
To play them is my cause.
I will travel across Japan
Searching far and wide.
Each programmer must understand
The power that's inside!!!
Monolith!(Gotta show the world!)
It's you and me.
We'll show them what we can be!
Monolith!
Oh my right hand man.
In a world we'll make for them.
Monolith!(Gotta show the world!)
Lighting so true!
The press won't know what to do.
You help me and I'll help you.
Monolith!(Gotta show the world!)
Gotta show the world, Yeah.
Every game that I will make,
with slow and steady pace
I will stay up with no breaks
Cuz Japan's not second place!
Come on guys the time is right!
There's no bettter team!
Arm in arm! We'll win the fight!
It's always been our dream
Monolith!(Gotta show the world!)
It's you and me.
We'll show them what we can be!
Monolith!
Oh my right hand man.
In a world we'll make for them.
Monolith!(Gotta show the world)
Lighting so true!
The press won't know what to do.
You help me and I'll help you.
Monolith!
(Gotta show the world)
Gotta show the world
Gotta show the world
Gotta Show the world
Gotta show the world Yeah
Monolith!(Gotta show the world)
It's you and me.
We'll show them what we can be!
Monolith!
Oh my right hand man.
In a world we'll make for them.
Monolith!(Gotta show the world)
Lighting so true!
The press won't know what to do.

Indeed. I was running the love fest before it was cool.

Haha. I like it too, bad your video does not exist. Thanks for lending your talent and passion to our love fest.

This is one of the few games iv'e stuck with the WiiU, Really do hope this is four player online in a team because the trailer shows four players.

Yeah, that is a big question. How does the online work? I am sure we all assume those are not computer controlled bots... but they could be.

Can other players jump in to your game and help progress? That obviously would be cool.

I don't think this will be a mainstream system seller, but it does add much needed variety that any system needs, but especially the Wii U.

As far as the relative silence on this game. .. they really need to tease us s bit more. We like it! Learn to flirt Nintendo. It is harmless and keeps us interested.

That was actually kind of sad.

If the demo is great chances are the final product will be even better.

Sell it on Amazon and quit complaining.

If MK8,SSB for Wii U, and a future Zelda game are crap to you then I don't even know why you come here. Have patience and you will be happy with it. Otherwise sell it on Amazon and quit whining about things.

Exactly. That has been my pet peeve since joining. If someone doesn't like the Wii U then why do they come here?!?

My pet peeve is people thinking the Wii U is more than what it is. .. a Nintendo first party game machine where no thought was put in for what attracts 3RD party support.

I have a Wii U. Had it since day one. I like it. Can't wait for W101. But I was kind of duped by Nintendo into thinking it was going back to the "hardcore".

I guess we just have a different definition.

It is a disappointing experience in some ways, no doubt. But great in others.

I guess part of it is the fact it could easily have been better. Instead they went cheap and charged way too much for what you get. I have covered this before.

I wish I did not hand to supplement my gaming experience with a PS4 so soon. But the future of Wii U support outside of Nintendo titles is bleak.

IKR.
I wish Nintendo would grow some balls and call out third parties who pull this rainbow on them.

Kind of easy now to just call him an outright liar, but I think he was just trying to build hype for the system. That would obviously have benefited his company. It was also disingenuous in the fact that they did kinda do stuff half-ass just so they can say "look, we tried". I see that now.

Just sucks. But Nintendo could have helped everyone by holding off and building a better system.

if i had not already got a WiiU, W101 wouldn't make me want to buy a WiiU, it's not worth buying when the PS4 is coming out & is only £50 more.

The price of the PS4 is irrelevant. The Wii U IS worth buying due to the exclusive games you cannot play on the other systems.

The TC did not say it was the system to do it all.

By now we must realize the Wii U is rarely the choice if you only want 1 system.

As a second system to supplement your gaming needs it is very much worthy of purchase thanks to games like Wonderful 101.

Wow didn't realise this was ment to be a launch game!

Sad but true. File it under "why the Wii u failed with bad ports and no original games."

Yes . I am bitter because I was duped into tHinking the Wii U would be worth damn 9 months ago.

But I am happy I will get 2 good games before the PS 4 comes out.

Finally this game is coming out.

I had thIs pre-ordered and paid for back in November or so for a December 2012 release.

Yes it was a launch window game.

So was Pikmin 3. But that was worth the wait.

Side note. ..I wonder if the Wii U wouldn't be such an absolute failure if these were available 7 months ago.

#245829 Wonderful 101

Posted by Dharmanator on 13 September 2013 - 11:59 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Im going to pick up 2 copies and keep one sealed.

I have a feeling this one might end up being pretty rare pretty fast, with its rather tiny print run (less than xenoblade in japan, pretty sure its pg's smallest print run), and the already frothing word of mouth its developing in euroland....

It should get cheap fairly fast, bit theres a pretty big chance there will only be the one shipment (unless for some reaon it starts selling) Once it dissapears after that, it probably wont be seen again.

If you miss it, you can buy my sealed copy for 200 bucks.

Last time I spent 200 on a game was Steel Battalion. That was so worth it.

The online expansion sucked though. Sooooo much lag.

Oh man, I still have the big ol box it came in. Man that 40 button controller was epic. Wish I had a factory sealed one.

http://www.amazon.co...x/dp/B00006ZCCD

Yeah. You will never see a game like that again. I will always appreciate Capcom for that. They knew it wasn't going to make money. It really was just for the gamers... in my mind at least.
But now...

This gen was such a joke. What metacritic and gamz girnolizm have done to this industry in such a short period of time is disgusting.

#241582 Wind Waker HD Wii U Deluxe bundle leaked!

Posted by Dharmanator on 25 August 2013 - 06:12 PM in Wii U Hardware

Let me. Get this straight. Nintendo is trying to boost sales by releasing an enhanced version of an 11 year old game running on an enhanced version of a 13 year old processor. ..1 month before the PS4 releases.

This is good?

#241673 Wind Waker HD Wii U Deluxe bundle leaked!

Posted by Dharmanator on 26 August 2013 - 08:35 AM in Wii U Hardware

So Nintendo polishing a game that still mangages to impress on a 12 year old console by updating the graphics, tweaking the game to make it more playable, and adding tons of new features and working hard to revamp a game is bad, but Sony constantly releasing collections of old games isn't ?

I don't think that as anything to do with my statement.

The fortunes of the PS4 aren't hinging on a 12 year old rehash. At least it has some new IP's coming out with the launch. There are only so many times Nintendo can go back to the same well.

I could only get through 1 level of the new Mario game before I realized I had done this 3 million times before. It is old and tired.

I give credit to Zombie U. It tired. But it Bombed so hard there will be no part 2 to fix the problems.

I am looking forward to w101. But lets be honest. It is coming out 9 months late.

In case you haven't noticed, there's a lot of rehashing going on. I beleve there's a shooter game that has had a "new" release every year.

You must be taking about a shooter I have not played in 3 years.

Was there a point to your comment? It failed to make one.

Unless you are saying that shooter sells many copies on PS3 and Xbox. .. and very little in the underpowered Wii. .. same thing will happen in this gen.
