#275846 Batman Arkham Knight revealed...No WiiU version

Posted by Zinix on 05 March 2014 - 08:36 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Well I have supported WiiU since launch and we have two in the household but the amount of games like this one that are skipping the console just kills what a great bit of kit WiiU is.

Gamers should buy the crap that 3rd partys send out at this point. That way we might get a 3rd party game besides the annual Rayman Rabbids/COD/Sonic game

You could play the new Fire Emblem game, that came out last year. It's for the 3DS tho.

Mahmo innovation just doesn't involve waggle or motion controls.

#275841 Nicalis Founder - "Wii U Gamepad is a waste of time and resources."

Posted by Zinix on 05 March 2014 - 08:32 AM in Wii U Hardware

Mandatory gimmick yet devs are not forced to use the gamepad, proof seen in DKCTF. The only use is off tv play and to some, that is a nice feature to have. Also, I am sure Retro didn't feel DK was the type of game to use the gamepad in any innovative way as the game stayed true to it's roots in the controls scheme.

You do realize not all consumers go to gamespot or IGN right?

I'm surprised you haven't said the DS/3DS is a pointless mandatory gimmick since it has two screens.... but since those systems have done quite well that is probably why you haven't.

They could of had it that you could roll into an enemy by tilting to the Gamepad using gyro controls or raising the gamepad higher to have Dixie Kong have a longer flight time.

#275826 Wii U Stuck On New User Setup

Posted by Zinix on 05 March 2014 - 08:08 AM in Wii U Hardware Help

I would suggest calling Nintendo. Have you tried resetting/unplugging the console and trying again?  It might be bricked, we can't give you a concrete answer.

#275825 Nicalis Founder - "Wii U Gamepad is a waste of time and resources."

Posted by Zinix on 05 March 2014 - 08:06 AM in Wii U Hardware

Nicalis founder Tyrone Rodriguez has criticised the Wii U GamePad on Twitter. Rodriguez says that the controller is vastly underused by developers and is therefore a waste of money when looking at the total cost of the Wii U to consumers.

He's right. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freezes doesn't use this at all, did  Pikmin 3 use it beyond a map feature? Nintendo bragged about the second screen, but have yet to do anything damn innovative with it.

#275756 Batman: Arkham Knight (PC/PS4/XB1, 2014) Game Informer details

Posted by Zinix on 04 March 2014 - 08:15 PM in General Gaming

Last Batman game for Rocksteady, will work on something totally new next.

There will be a brand new villain, something made by Rocksteady that they say will be the ultimate test for Batman
Batmobile can be called at any moment with a button.
The city streets are much wider to allow for the batmobile. You will rocket jump off ramps and do all sorts of cool maneuvers.
You can eject jump out of the batmobile right into a super fast glide straight through the glass of a building to knock out enemies. They said glass breaking will be a big new thing.
New moves include being able to use all your gadgets during flight. You now have a counter throw where you counter a guy and throw him into another guy. A new quick ground takedown. A quick backflip where you then throw a batarang in an enemies face.
For the predator sections you can now chain takedowns of up to four enemies. For instance pop out of a grate and take one guy, jump to the next and so on. You can now enter grates from a distance, he will automatically do a jump or roll to enter them.
Riddler challenges seem to be car based. The first one has you enter a sort of Riddler race track where you have to activate walls and ramps, when you activate one another closes so as you drive you have to be constantly turning on and off these ramps as you navigate the course.
Batmobile fires missles and stun guns. It destroys anything it touches so if you bump into cars the cars go flying. It's basically unstoppable.
Story is that after Joker's death all the criminals decided to work together and their plan comes together this night where they plan to kill batman. The article talks mostly about Scarecrow, he scattered bombs throughout Gotham.
Oracle will play a larger role, you get to visit her base and talk to her, tons of batman easter eggs included.
Kevin Conroy is Batman, all the previous voice actors are back.
Gothom City is 5 times bigger than AC. Split into 3 areas. NO LOAD TIMES at all, entering buildings is seemless.
They spend a bunch of time talking about how detailed the models are, one character has more polygons than the environment of Asylum.
Batman will start off with the old batsuit and upgrade at some point in the game.
It says it is running on their modified Unreal engine.

All quickfire gadgets can now be used during flight.

- The finale has been in mind since the development of Arkham City
- Rocksteady is emphasising the detail is more important than the scale of the world. They don't want to create the biggest open-world, they want to create the richest, densest and most vibrant
- Batmobile is designed to be "the best car in any game ever", it takes up around 160mb of memory in game and will just about fit in an Xbox 360 (if that was the whole game). There are hundreds of thousands of polygons, as well as textures and shaders used on it

spoilers
[*]Starts off with the evacuation of Gotham cause Scarecrow has put fear toxin bombs all over[*]Each villain is doing their own mission to cause chaos and spread Batman thin.[*]Two-Face and Pengiun are shooting cops in the streets.[*]Batman sees the batsignal and meets Gordon at the roof, fills him in on the scarecrow issue and Gordon gets a call from Barbara saying she is out of the city.[*]Batman goes off to find scarecrow thugs and contacts Barbara who is of course still in the city helping him out.[*]He helps some police when an armored vehicle comes through the streets blowing up police cars, batman hops into the batmobile and takes down the vehicle. Out of the wreckage a scarecrow thug tries to throw fear toxin at batman but he catches it and gets the info he wants.[*]He takes a detour to find a riddler thug, you know the drill, this leads him into an underground race track, lab thing where Riddler shows up and says he will be testing you all night long.[*]He beats the race track, Riddler says he will use the data he learned to make much harder tracks later.[*]He next visits the clock tower oracle is in, it has a statue head that you pull back like Adam West's switch, no red button, its a scanner instead. This reveals the hidden room. She is analyzing the toxin from the thug. It has a radiation she can track, Batman needs to reach an antennae in the Falcone shipping yard.[*]He beats up some goons and puts the tracker on the antennae. As he walks out he is being shot at buy a guy in a militaristic Batsuit flying through the air at him. The batsuit has a big A on it. He knocks down Batman, stomps on him and says "you aren't going anywhere". He points his gun at Batman's head and the screen fades to black and you hear a gunshot. End of demo.

-When it rains rains bead of water run down Batman's suit tracing every groove
-The wrinkles on Gordon's face crinkle as he talks

The City
-The city is as detailed as ever with realistic moving clouds with the moon shining through
-Halloween characters and balloons litter the street adding a creepy vibe
-Neon signs of the various shops shine brightly around the city
-The skyline has helicopters and blimps flying through it
-Steam puffs out of the sewers in a realistic way

- Combat tweaks (note: Not enough time to go over these in detail. for example, you can throw by tilting left towards the opponent and hitting counter)
- did I mention the screenshots are gorgeous?
- Arkham Knight isn't just the name of the game.. it's also the name of the [new] villain.
- Fear Takedowns. ie, burst out of grate, action slows down allowing you to target another goon for another attack and so on. Can be used on groups up to 3 as long as they're close enough together and no one has already spotted Batman.
- They seem to try to tackle the old school Arkham issue of "open door - black screen loading"
- The game looks gorgeous. Huge.
-"This is a single-player game. There is no multiplayer."
- You can launch into a fast glide from the Batmobile just like the trailer.

The Daily Record first reported that the Morris Catholic High School senior filed her lawsuit last week, claiming they are still financially responsible for her. Rachel Canning claims her parents threw her out, but her parents say she left on her own after refusing to follow family rules.

A Northern California couple out walking their dog on their Gold Country property stumbled across a modern-day bonanza: $10 million in rare, mint-condition gold coins buried in the shadow of an old tree.

Nearly all of the 1,427 coins, dating from 1847 to 1894, are in uncirculated, mint condition, said David Hall, co-founder of Professional Coin Grading Service of Santa Ana, which recently authenticated them.

Although the face value of the gold pieces only adds up to about $27,000, some of them are so rare that coin experts say they could fetch nearly $1 million apiece.

"I don't like to say once-in-a-lifetime for anything, but you don't get an opportunity to handle this kind of material, a treasure like this, ever," said veteran numismatist Don Kagin, who is representing the finders. "It's like they found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow."

#275530 Bill Clinton photographed with prostitutes at charity event

They’re reportedly prostitutes who work for the infamous Moonlite Bunny Ranch brothel in Carson City, Nev. (where that activity is legal).

The photo is posted on the Bunny Ranch Facebook page with the caption, “Yea… that just happened…”

Identified as Barbie Girl (left) and Ava Adora by TMZ, they attended the Unite4:Humanity event with Bunny Ranch owner Dennis Hof and porn star Ron Jeremy.

Sources close to those who ran the event said the prostitutes were removed from the party after the photo with Clinton was taken, TMZ noted, adding that others close to the two women said that isn’t true.

It should be noted that it’s not clear if Clinton knew the identities of the women or their alleged employer before the photo was taken, nor if Clinton met Hof or Jeremy.

Clinton gave the Thursday event’s keynote address and was given the “Unity Award” by actor Forest Whitaker, The Daily Mail noted.

#275439 A Hat in Time dev gives update on Wii U status

Posted by Zinix on 02 March 2014 - 08:06 PM in Wii U News

Coming from a Gamenesia interview with Gears For Breakfast...

G: Everyone says Nintendo’s really trying with indies now, but what has your experience been trying to get A Hat in Time onto Wii U?

GFB: As it currently stands we're still looking at that option but our main focus is finishing the game on PC first. However our dealings with Nintendo have been pleasant and they have been helpful.

G: I suppose this one’s fairly obligatory: is there anything new to report on A Hat in Time’s potential console release on Wii U? Are you in or planning to be in contact with Sony or Microsoft about a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One release?

GFB: There's always a potential! So long as the demand is there (which it is) then we can work towards that goal but right now finishing the game is our main priority before we make such huge leaps especially since we're a small indie team.

Leaked maps +

I can't go into details, but I have a reliable source pouring me information on Titanfall. I'll be in and out tonight, but I'll try to answer questions as much as I can. I should also point out I'm focusing on the information which wasn't found by RazorUK in his Beta Data Dig. You can know that almost all of his information is reliable.

PILOT HUNTER - Kill the enemy team’s Pilots to reach the score limit and win—one point is awarded for each Pilot killed. Although killing Grunts and Spectres in this mode will not earn points towards your team’s score, doing so will still give you build time reductions on your replacement Titans and Titan Core Ability.

MAPS - There are 15 maps. Most of which we know already. I have actual top-down map images and may post them later if demand is high.

TURRETS - See here Heavy turrets are designed for killing everything—including Titans. When used out in the field, they are often braced into position in urban environments atop buildings, and have a considerable range of motion and excellent target tracking systems. Multiple Titans are usually required to disable a single heavy turret by focusing their fire on it. They operate autonomously and, in most cases, can be “flipped” (to fight for the other team) when a nearby console is compromised, often with a Data Knife.

GENERATIONS - Thanks to RazorUK we basically know a ton about Generations already, I'll spare the details. But I was given this screenshot of what "Regenerating" actually looks like.

ZIPLINES See here Ziplines travel both ways, up and down. They're especially helpful in CTF matches and escaping areas quickly. You can attach to it from either end or even while in midair (assuming you're close enough.) You hold the reload button to latch on and ride.
