#129827 Anybody who wont get wii U at launch day?

Posted by Nintendo on 15 November 2012 - 07:47 AM in Wii U Hardware

Selling it now as a loss, doesn't mean that it will continue that way in the future.
As shown in that source,

Nintendo is actually taking a loss on the Wii U. So it must be expensive.

#136085 Slow CPU Will Shorten Wii U's Life - DICE Dev

I hate seeing this type of news. Hopefully Dice will still go ahead with BF4 on Wii U?

#138454 Why was my drawing deleted by an admin?

Nice picture by the way.
Although it might sound ridiculous, I think what Noonabites said is the best bet. Nintendo are going out of there way to try and achieve a user friendly Miiverse... too user friendly, some might argue.

#131295 Gamespot ZombiU review

I doubt this is a real review, seeing as they haven't got a worded one up yet, just the score.

I love it. Would be better if you sorted the size out so you can't scroll to the right. Other than that, really nice

#132270 Help! Wii U Gamepad Won't Connect to the Console

Posted by Nintendo on 18 November 2012 - 10:51 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'm hearing about a few problems with the GamePad, one that stands out the most is a dude on the IGN forums who had the image of the last game that he played burnt into the screen, kinda like the problems consoles have with plasma screen TV's

Damn, that's terrible!

#130886 How much space your Wii U actually has

Posted by Nintendo on 16 November 2012 - 11:59 AM in Wii U Hardware

Just to make it clear to anyone, in case it wasn't before:

The memory you will be getting with the Wii U is flash memory. In other words, it's a Solid State Drive (SSD).
While 8GB may seem small compared to what the other consoles offer, the reason for it is that SSDs are currently way more expensive than regular Hard Disk Drives (HDD).

Getting a 32GB console for $50 more (in the Americas at least) should be a no-brainer. You get more memory to play with that is WAY faster than HDD, so generally you store things on there that you'll use often and want speed from. (probably save files and the like, so saves and loads will be much faster, etc)

You're not supposed to store everything on the stock hard drives, you're supposed to buy an external with rainbowtonnes of slow space and use that.

Anyone thinking that they can live with the 8GB bundle and not have to buy an additional hard drive for the life of the console is kidding themselves, unless they never download a game ever.

Please, please, please, please read the actual thread.

No problem in the first place

the 8 gigs, gives u 3 gigs of space and the premium / deluxe.. gives u 27

Did you actually read my post? haha.
It wasn't a question, I stated what you said exactly.

Well... it was kinda expected. Everyone here knows that you never get the full extent of a hard drive, and that they have to store the account data somewhere. Although I wasn't expecting it to be 4gb worth. o_o

Yeah, same
3 GB worth*

What can the SD card slot be used for again? Nintendo state not for downloads but what can it be used for? Before Nintendo made that announcement many were planning to just bung in a cheap 32GB SD card to supplement system memory. I dont understand why nintendo has restricted the sdcard slot unless they are also preventing use of usb memory sticks. Surely if you save games to a hard drive that hard drive can be connected to a pc and hackers can attempt to crack the format and read the files. Just don't see the point of restricting the sd card slot.

Xbox 360 and PS3 don't have SD card slots right?
Nintendo may now have some new-found-logic, and actually take into account the opposing systems security, and why they might not have as much modders/hackers as Wii.
Getting rid of SD slot is a good start.

I read the actual thread... I was trying to address concerns.
I did a little more research though, and the flash memory probably isn't as fast as a SSD anyways.
Sorry.

By your post, it made me think you still thought that the total memory was actually 8gb or 32gb.

#129940 How much space your Wii U actually has

Posted by Nintendo on 15 November 2012 - 11:10 AM in Wii U Hardware

So I read something recently that seriously altered my decision to buy the 8gb Wii U.

"The Wii U operating system, the account data, etc., will take up 4.2 GB of internal storage space. Each Wii U is preloaded with this data, which means that the 8 GB Wii U version will only have about 3 GB left for save games, downloads, and such. This is because when the 8 GB is formatted, it ends up with 7.2 GB of usable storage. Then 4.2 GB is taken up by the console itself."

This means that the 8gb Wii U won't even be able to have Nintendo Land as a download, so don't buy the 8gb thinking you'll be able to download around 4 games (roughly 2 GB per game?)

"The Wii U Deluxe version will ship with 32 GB of storage. When it’s formatted, it will have about 29 GB. Minus the 4.2 GB of system data, this means that the Deluxe version will have about 25 GB to store games, save games, downloads, and more."

Definitely, definitely, definitely going to get the 32GB now.
Smooth marketing Nintendo, smooth.

Considering the newest console I own is the Gamecube...

How much space do things like saved games and miis and so on actually us nowadays? Because to me, 4gb sounds fine if you're just a family, buying games on discs and having a few saves?

If you reckon you're not going to download any titles, just buy the disc and save games etc; then fine. If you want to download numerous apps, and full games/ arcade games you'd want to buy the larger GB Wii U, or get an external hard drive.

#148522 Wii U is in a precarious position

Posted by Nintendo on 16 December 2012 - 08:12 AM in Wii U Hardware

Actually Nintendo I think is safe this time because it set itself apart from both Microsoft and Sonys Consoles.

The new Playstation and Xbox will be very similar with their approach to gaming(that is going for horsepower) opposed to the Wii U's innovation with the gamepad. It's such a difference experience where it's worth getting even if you own an xbox/ps3.

Sony this time around is going be in the most trouble as they are already in financial trouble and on top of that have to compete with Microsofts when they both launch.

The Wii U has at least a year head start with the upcoming consoles. Who knows, we might not get one or both of the next gen consoles until 2014?

So before the next two consoles even come out, you can expect to see a $50 price drop on both versions of the console in 2013 sometime(most likely fall/holiday time). This will make the basic 250 and the delux 300.

The Wii launched at a $250 price rang and that seemed to be the sweet spot. Microsoft and Sonys new console will be at a higher price where the casual consumer would rather get the Wii U.

If you have noticed there isn't much marketing for the Wii U. My idea on this is there's no need for it since there isn't any competition and the systems price point is at its highest since it just launched. Why spend all that money now? I believe Nintendo is waiting for the games and maybe a price drop and you can guarantee to see the Wii U marketed all over with commercials and what not before the next two consoles come out.

On top of all this, Nintendos 1st part titles are easily system sellers and have always carried Nintendo through any tough times.

I think Nintendo is safe. ;)

Agreed.
As long as developers manage to carry on cominng up with good uses of the gamepad. More and more will try and jump in on the trend.

#137835 Are you getting a gamepad case/wallet?

Most of the cases I've seen don't look very nice, in my opinion. I guess I'll just be very careful with it.

Yet another "problem", but not as bad as all the others:

I live in the UK, our internet speeds are very decent, we have SuperFast Fibre Optic internet cables rolled out pretty much everywhere! :D It only costs about £15 - £20 a month too.

I also live in UK :/

Ouch! What ISP are you with I suggest Virgin Media.

I think I'm with Talk Talk, I don't think Virgin covers the area I live in :/
