#241620 Wii U Summer/Fall Update

Posted by Lebon14 on 25 August 2013 - 10:45 PM in Wii U Hardware

Don't forget that there's still NID and Miiverse to come to the 3DS still. I wonder when we'll have those. Otherwise, more OS speed will be welcome. It's still pretty slow but much better than before the spring update. That's all I ask really. Oh and, games.

#238475 Wonderful 101 is the reason to own a Wii U

Posted by Lebon14 on 11 August 2013 - 07:03 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I genuinely tried the demo yesterday evening and... it's not my cup of tea. There is a lot on the screen going on at once and I get myself lost in that. Also, there might be videos tutorial and stuff but I feel that the game should make an interactive training session, especially in the drawing segment of the game with "punching bag enmmies" (ennemies that doesn't budge or if they do, they don't attack) and then gradually introduce action. What I played is a game that drops you directly into action with very little to help you out: Use "something" (/reference) to attack! Then, the action grows more intense and then it says "you can draw figures!" when you are already overloaded with checking the gamepad and then the mainscreen trying to figure out what to do. Argh. Again, I like action games but not this kind and that's probably what make me suck very hard.

The graphics however are pretty darn good. The greatest surprise I had was: Japanese audio with English subs! Wiis dubs, all hail original audio and language! (says somebody that loves anime and used to watch them a lot)

On that, take my opinion with a grain of salt because I'm not in this kind of game. Maybe Pikmin may be more suited for me than W101.

#238648 Wonderful 101 is the reason to own a Wii U

Posted by Lebon14 on 11 August 2013 - 06:50 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Actually, every clover/platinum game has done exactly what you requested since viewtiful joe.

So will this. It wont just hurl you into the middle of the game like the demo. Im honestly not looking forward to it and hope it can be skipped/turned off. Oh well.

Ohm, Go into the pause menu, to the second menu and equip the rainbow colored 'full auto'. The computer will begin assisting you with combos, and even block or dodge for you sometimes.

Well, if they all do it, why not include it in the demo with an option to skip direct to the action? I know that you want to give as much as a preview as possible but you don't want to throw off your future possible players either.

Also, OH SORRY FOR MISSING an option. I also tried mixing this stuff and pressing the Y button did JACK CRAP.

Finally, use the[ quote] tag, it looks like you copy me. Exemple dialog:

Me: So, today I watched somebody rock RAWK HAWK
You: So, today I watched somebody rock RAWK HAWK
Me: It was an awesome match
You: It was an awesome match
Me: Shaddap
You: Shaddap

If that was your intention, that was totally immature and unfit for a moderator. Everybody got opinion. Mine may be biased because the game scared me off so I stopped playing after 15 minutes and I may have not used all the options available. And I did try to check the gamepad help and tried to make use of the tips that appeared here and there the most possible but I was still scared off and unable to play jackcrap. And it was on Easy.

also, the "we need a tutorial" argument shows why today's gamers cant beat the first super mario game: no instinct left (specially considering they have mentioned how to play the game each time they have mentioned it on nintendo directs, there are gameplay videos on youtube and even there is the platinum games' blog dedicated to the game where they take you by the hand on getting into the game mechanics)

Using SMB as an exemple is... not a good exemple at all. SMB got 2 buttons, a directional pad and the TV to worry about. Here, with W101, we have two joystick, 8 buttons, gamepad screen and monitor/TV to worry about.  Sorry but you are comparing apples to bananas. And, usually, unless I don't plan to play the game myself, I don't watch gameplay videos or anything of the like because, yeah, I don't want to spoil myself.

#238685 Wonderful 101 is the reason to own a Wii U

Posted by Lebon14 on 11 August 2013 - 08:41 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Dont know what you are referring too.

This:

Ohm, Go into the pause menu, to the second menu and equip the rainbow colored 'full auto'. The computer will begin assisting you with combos, and even block or dodge for you sometimes.

But I just realized that you weren't talking to me.

Probably because you didnt have enough ingrediants. All it gives you are consumables that the demo gives you like candy anyways.

Icons lit up on the right side and figured that I used enough ingredients but... it didn't work for some reason. Like the game explained to me how it worked anyway.

Im not even sure what the middle of this is supposed to mean, but the quote function doesnt always work correctly for mobile browsers/wii u.

If the [ quote] tag failed then, oh ok. You have ever had this person repeating what you say to annoy the crap out of you? That's what supposed to mean but if the browser is at fault, well, discard that part completely.

Thats cool dude, you arent trying to tell people who do enjoy it that they are full of crap and its a bad game, just because you personally are having trouble/scared off. Theres a pretty big difference between what you've posted and what certain other people have.

If you go into the options, under the second tab labeled 'custom' there should be four gems you can equip, the last one will be rainbowy, its called 'full auto', if you equip that, the cpu will help you out with some of the combos, and even blocking sometimes. Should make the game a little less intimidating.

Thanks and thanks again for the tip. However, I'm scared off for good. Last time it happened, it was when I was playing Half-Life 2 and there was this long tongue hanging-from-the-ceiling monsters around a corner. It had been a while since I saw one of those guys so I took for granted that they disappeared for good. So, I turned a corner quick and one of those was RIGHT there and scared the crap out of me, so much that I shot a full clip of pistol at it. After that gaming session, I never played the game again. FACT.

#211334 Is the wii u THAT underpowered?

Posted by Lebon14 on 26 May 2013 - 01:24 AM in Wii U Hardware

The WiiU isn't as underpowered as the haters might make it seem. Is it underpowered? Yes. But FAR from as much as the Wii was to the PS360 combo. I think that those screens shows it. W101 is not a launch game but isn't a game that is far into the console's life either and Knack, whatever that game is, doesn't even look graphically better, is it? I see them both on par.

#219715 Nintendo E3= Disappointing?

Posted by Lebon14 on 11 June 2013 - 12:31 PM in E3 2013 Archive

My biggest disappointment, for me, was Super Mario 3D World. Yes, 3D Land is fun and all. Peach not being captive for once is a plus (then, again, Nintendo never really put effort plot-wise for their platformers) but.......... I expected so much more for a 3D Mario. 3D Land was perfect for the 3DS. Oh, look it sold amazingly, let's do an HD game with the same concept and add a Cat powerup.

The 2nd disappointment was the lack of 3rd support. Without this support, I feel that only Nintendo games are supporting Nintendo console. :(

Beside that, Mario Kart 8 looks awesome. Bayonetta 2 is growing on me. W101 too... and, of course, Pokemon X & Y. I could make a list but I really don't feel like it at all.

Can I play this on the gamepad only?

No because the game uses the gamepad as a gameplay element (map, detective tool, etc) to complement the action on-screen.

Bought this today, and just started play! Do they plan on fixing the loading times in a patch?

Loading times will be greatly improved with Nintendo's patch this month, I hear. Or maybe I got it all wrong.

I know... it's annoying to have to load every second.

#250138 Wii U OS Redesign Concept

Posted by Lebon14 on 07 October 2013 - 04:54 AM in The Museum

the wii u ui is an iphone clone.

grid based app launcher? check.

dock? check.

rounded rectangle icons? check.

almost.

its the fisher price version.

Metro is pretty savvy, but i never said to use metro on wii u.

the ui would benefit from modern design trend.

there are a lot of aspects that can be done better.

and that nintendo feel?

every console has a ui of its own. the wii was the first to try to emulate apples "aqua" look to some degree.

it was considered modern when the wii came out.

the wii u ui feels stuck back at that time. thats why most feel it's outdated.

hopefully we get a modern ui next year. and by modern i dont mean stale. but something that looks current and sharp.

*pinches his top part of the nose*

Do you think sincerely think that Nintendo wanted to "copy" Apple? I don't think they did. What they thought was probably "Hey! the 3DS UI is pretty good, so, we could use it on the U. But... there are too much options and so we need some shortcut. Let's put the most useful down there." And, it just happened to look like a dock from OSX and other Apple products. As you know, Nintendo avoid paying royalties like the pest. So much that they won't even pay for DVD playback (which needs DVD Forum licence), Or even CD-Rom!! For Blu-ray, I understand... you wouldn't pay rolyalties to one of your direct competitors, hmm? To top it off, they are copyright an*l-ist.

Personally, the flat "modern" look is just a fad. Oh wait. Apple used that flat look in iOS7. Then, something bad became good all of a sudden. And people hate Windows 8 for the Modern/Metro UI... go figure.

Anyway, what Nintendo really needs to focus on is to let people actually personallize their console. Add a wallpaper, change the color of the icons, folders, etc. Just a few ideas out of my head. Ninty has always the first to takes risks. So why not nnovate in the UI instead of following a fad trend? Why not innovate on something new?

Personally, I like the UI the way it is. Needs improvement, yes, but I still love its look.

#253102 Wii U OS Redesign Concept

Posted by Lebon14 on 25 October 2013 - 01:25 PM in The Museum

About the UI designs concepts of post #31, 39 and 47... they're still flat, yes. However, I kind of relate it to what Nintendo could come up with so I like it. In fact, I would love that so much more than the stupid Metro UI Microsoft has.

#249717 Wii U OS Redesign Concept

Posted by Lebon14 on 04 October 2013 - 10:43 PM in The Museum

actually, it's not.

the wii u is awesome. the os ui is the complete opposite of that.

And look a the arrows on the sides of the home screen, they look ok. outdated, but ok. now tap one. notic how the highlight is now? the highlight should stop at the edge of the arrow object. insted, it extends onto the drop shadow. its visually a small error, but it is an astronomically huge error in terms of the person using the graphic tools to design it.there ae multiple others, but this is pretty obvious.

still can't believe someone was paid to do this. they really need to hire a quality graphic designer for the ui.

I also heavily disagree. Metro UI is by far the worst UI I've ever seen: flat, ugly, unintuitive. On a Nintendo console, it would be unsuable. You need multitouch which the Gamepad can't provide. On the TV, since you can't swipe away, you'll have to navigate manually in a mess of squares and rectangles. I've always hated the last XBox360 UI for a reason: everything's lost in a mess of flat rectangles. That's the main reason I've stayed with Windows 7 and I don't want Nintendo to fall for that stupid flat look.

However, I don't say that the WiiU UI is the best. Could it be better? Yes. Could it be faster? Most definitely.

Let's have a list of stuff that could be added and improved:

#200061 Wii U update is live!

Posted by Lebon14 on 25 April 2013 - 05:57 PM in Wii U Hardware

Error code: 199-9999
Wii U GamePad update failed.
The console will now restart.
If the problem persists etc.

Did you get that at the end?

It restarted and told me to update my upad.

The upad's update counts for 20% of the total update time according to the status bar majiggy.

I got it... I thought I would have the update over but when it rebooted, it did when you said and the update completed successfully. It took me 30min to download. Probably another 10-15 minutes to install.

#193957 Wii U graphics question... will you be satisfied?

Posted by Lebon14 on 13 April 2013 - 12:15 AM in Wii U Hardware

Personally, looking at the graphics in Lego City Undercover (an exemple), they look pretty darn good for what it is.  Then, again, it may not be using the WiiU at full capacity graphic-wise but, still, it looks great. I'm not a graphics whore: I'm not looking for top notch graphics with the best physics ever, etc, etc, etc. As long as it looks good and not an half-assed job, whatever resolution (depends on the game console generation here), I'll be happy.

the graphical difference will be much tinier because they'll all be in 1080p (unless Microsoft loses it and tries a 4k console)

A 4k console? In your dreams... for now. Even a the nVidia GeForce GTX Titan can't even run a game full quality at 4k at a decent framerate. And, that's the most powerful single-GPU on the market (at 1000$ a pop). In Unigine, in 2560x1600, it only gets ~45fps. Note that UltraHD (aka 4k) is 7680x4320. How would you plan to make a console, at this present date, when the most power single-GPU card on the market can't even run something smooth in 2560x1600 in a GPU Benchmark software? And how UltraHD TVs are crazy expensive? Tell me about it.

Now, I also know that you are hypothetical here.

Pacman

Am I the only one that went "WTF" when seeing this while reading the first post?

EDIT

I'm not a fighting game gamer but, I would really love to see some Golden Sun love in the next SSB. The "original 8" + Matthew, Karis and Tyrell are all excellent addition. I would also vote for Sveta too... she could be a second Zelda/Sheik. Fans of GS will know what I mean.

#204615 WiiKey U is legit and its in Development!

Posted by Lebon14 on 06 May 2013 - 10:23 PM in Wii U Hardware

Homebrew = things made by people at home

Piracy = dumping games and playing them with this device.

Oh, I know. But, piracy, as a term, is widely used in various situation and has various meanings. You know that right? I was using the term on a general basis as in "downloading content for free" and "accessing a protected system by unofficial means". Of course, even homebrew can be considered piracy because, to be able to do an homebrew, you need to access to crack/pirate the console to be able to develop and use it. A game hack, is also some sort of homebrew in some way.  There are various ways to see and understand those terms.

#204612 WiiKey U is legit and its in Development!

Posted by Lebon14 on 06 May 2013 - 09:41 PM in Wii U Hardware

This isn't homebrew, this is piracy.

Piracy will effect sales of software.

The Wii U already has an automatic update solution though, so it'll be nerfed as soon as it's out.

I disagree. Why? People that will download the game would have not purchase the game in the first place. Even if they finally like the game, they won't buy it. So, does it affect sales. No, it won't and It's been proven already. Actually, "pirates" are actually those that purchase the most medias (music, movies, video games, etc). Those that doesn't pirate anything are usually those that doesn't buy anything anyway. I don't say that what I say is applying to everybody. No, in fact, there will ALWAYS be pirates that will download and don't give a Wii. However, the opposite exists : there will be people that downloads to try it and then ends up buying the game (I'm pretty much in this category, but music wise). There is also people that doesn't pirate and always purchase.

Why does it exist in the first place?

- Game availability (ex.: game only available in Japan)

- Lack of features

- Region locks.

As long as companies supports any sort of restrictive DRM, they won't sell as much unless they make it widely available and at an avantageous price. Until then, there WILL always be stuff like that happening. It's also been proven that when Netflix has been lauching in countries, the "piracy" for said country dwindled considerably. Same goes for video games. Best exemple : Steam. Yes, it's still some form of DRM. BUT! It allows you to...:

- Redownload the games you purchase in case of all sorts of mishaps. Nintendo seems against the idea... unless it's on the same console.

- Games will be retail price at launch, however, during the pre-order time, they will actually add incensitive to purchase the digital version. Nintendo doesn't do that.

- Steam also offers heavy price cuts from the original release price only a couple of weeks after release. Even for big titles. Nintendo takes YEARS to drop the price. FFS, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is still 49.99$ MSRP NEW!!!!! It has been released for YEARS!!! The only thing to have rebates seems to be... 3rd party games which most of the time, are available on PC and... Steam.

- Allow fans to create their own content for the games a company release. Steam has Steam Workshop which I believe to be pretty darn popular. I do not count how much hacks of Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Wii there are on the net... To be able to run those hacks, you need a modded Wii. Since Nintendo doesn't allow user created content, they are bound for hackers to get into the system to allow people to do just that.

And the list goes on.

Additionally, allowing people to do more with their console than just play games (Steam is on PC, Mac and Linux so it doesn't apply...) i.e. Watch movies without going online or use an online service such as Netflix or YT. How? Play DVDs and Blu-rays. the 360s plays DVDs and the PS3 plays both. And, Nintendo, because they simply refuse to give a single cent to get the rights to play DVDs and/or BDs, are bound to get themselves hacked to allow such things. Oh wait, the optical drive just doesn't read those... so, the homebrews will simply allow to play content from an hard drive or a USB flash drive. Offering a workaround, that's what it will allow.

If you don't believe me, you don't read torrentfreak.com enough. They've been posting articles throughout the years by researchers that takes the issue to heart, actually research and publish actual results; not BS results from say, an anti-piracy company (biased numbers). Even the European Commission agrees that music piracy doesn't affect sales! Smae logic goes for video games. If the latest COD or Halo game sell for a million copies, I don't believe that this actual number will increase if there was no piracy at all. I simply can't believe that.

Don't get me wrong, if my wallet was flowing with cash, I would certainly buy every games I'm interessed in. However, because of ridiculous prices, I never had to play those games... Exemple: Kid Icarus Uprising, Starfox 64 3D, Luigi's Mansion, etc. Those are all 3DS games. Why no WiiU games... well, the offer isn't still quite there. I purchased SMW on the virtual console and when I saw the price I thought... "What a rip-off." Even if it was only 6$ (and I have to actually add the taxes in the region I live in).

Do I plan to hack my console after saying all that? No. Why? I don't want to risk an investment that took months to gather the money for. Anyway, the games I will be actually interessed in will be limited. It's not like Mario/Banjo-like platformers or Perfect Dark or Goldeneye 007 (N64) FPS or Pokemon and Golden Sun-like turn based RPGs were legion these days...

I think it's fake.

But...Nintendo should better release some DS/3DS player for the Wii U like we had for the Snes (GB player). :)

And the Gamecube had the Gameboy Advance player too if I am right.
