#243609 GameSpot Says Wii U Version Of Rayman Legends Is Worst Version

Posted by McMurphy on 02 September 2013 - 08:59 AM in Wii U Games and Software

This IS Gamespot, after all. I am not sure how much credibility they still wield with gamers after giving The Last of Us an "8"....far below the rest of the reviewing community. Also, check out the Gamespot reviewer profiles sometime. They take trolling popular games as a badge of honor by saying things like, "Hates all the games you love" and other gems that have no place being expressed by "professionals."

#235572 simple but addictive game idea for miiverse.

Posted by McMurphy on 28 July 2013 - 11:30 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Actually, the following idea may be worth trying:

TheWiiU.com picks a theme, say, "draw Luigi in a hero pose" or something to that effect. Create a post on Miiverse that members would supply their submissions to in replies (the NNI would need to be provided so people know who to follow to more readily find said post). After a certain number or a certain period of time had lapsed, create a poll on these forums where members could vote on the submissions. Being that Miiverse has a web version now, pictures on Miiverse have their own URL so each drawing can be displayed in the voting topic using the traditional bbcode tags.

Not only is it a fun interaction between these boards and Miiverse, but it could drum up more exposure for the site.

#235567 Can something be done about all the damn spambots?

Posted by McMurphy on 28 July 2013 - 11:15 AM in Site News and Feedback

I don't know. Every time I visit here, I haven't actually come across spambots. They seem to be wrangled rather quickly, and, as it has been suggested prior in this discussion, a few spambots sneaking their way in not a big deal.

I think people are not taking in account that there is no lasting defense against spambots. Forum administrators are forced to continuously update their defenses. What was once a perfect solution one year is cracked the following. For example, my community had its six year anniversary last June. To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to return the forums to how they appeared years ago for a weekend. With the first half of an hour of the rollback, I had fifty spambots flood the forum...and that isn't even counting the ones that simply registered an account and hadn't responded to the verifying email. Naturally, I scrapped that idea!

In other words, it seems like the spam counter-measures here are up to date, and the staff is doing an excellent job removing the handful of knuckleheads that slip through the cracks in a reasonable span of time.

#233042 Rayman Legends director criticizes Wii U GamePad’s resistive touchscreen

Posted by McMurphy on 18 July 2013 - 08:28 PM in Wii U Games and Software

These are odd comments by the developer particularly considering I was having an absolute blast playing the Legend app....with the stylus. :D

#233039 I need some positivity to curb my WiiU disappointment :(

Posted by McMurphy on 18 July 2013 - 08:22 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Positivity?

How about this...you know all those friends that are waiting by the side-lines until Mario Kart 8 is released?

Well, they will be joining you once the game is released, and you will be their resident sage in regards to everything Wii U. :D

#230367 Injustice Gods Among Us DLC is HERE! Finally.

Posted by McMurphy on 09 July 2013 - 06:19 PM in Wii U Games and Software

4.99 per character...

4.99 PER CHARACTER...

Thats highway robbery

This is what people have been whining about this whole time???!?!?!?

"Why doesnt the Wii U get DLC?!?!?! We wanna pay $5 per character"

Thats disgusting

If you find that superhero price point appalling, you best not check out Marvel Heroes Online. That game's character unlocks are quite a bit more!

Great to hear that DLC made its way to the Wii U.

#230365 007 Legends has terrible lag?

Posted by McMurphy on 09 July 2013 - 06:15 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Since the online play is by the same development team (since out of business) as the Wii's Goldeneye game, the lag issues may be caused on the game's end of matters rather than your personal experience. Don't get me wrong. Goldeneye on the Wii was/is fantastic, but the lag during the online leg of the game was a weak point. Honestly, I can't think of an online Wii title that I had more trouble with lag than Goldeneye. I enjoyed the game despite of the lag. With that in mind, it does not surprise me that lag would be an issue in this James Bond title as well.

I know that isn't as direct of a confirmation as you had hoped, but I really doubt it is an issue on your end.

#230254 Any fall Wii U titles to pre order?

Posted by McMurphy on 09 July 2013 - 02:25 PM in Wii U Games and Software

There are some titles I am looking forward, but not pre-order worthy for the fall season. Spring 2014 is a different story. Mario Kart 8 is a must-have in my gaming library.

I may get Watch Dogs, the new Donkey Kong Country, the Wind Waker remake, and, if confirmed, the next Call of Duty on the Wii U. None of those titles are certain or day-one purchases, so I am left a bit disappointed with Nintendo during a very important retail season of offerings. Even without the PS4 in the mix, I can think of titles on the PS3 that I will, for sure, be picking up.

#230241 Ubisoft – Zombie U “wasn’t even close to being profitable”

Posted by McMurphy on 09 July 2013 - 02:09 PM in Wii U Games and Software

While I personally enjoy the Wii U (off and online), the writing is pretty clearly on the wall when it comes the future of third party development. The future releases of MK8 or the next Smash Bros may help, but it will most likely be a case of too little, too late.

#225355 COD: Ghosts Officially Confirmed for Wii U

Posted by McMurphy on 22 June 2013 - 02:29 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Hopefully we don't see Activison complaining about sales, if i had a penny for every time i heard a developer complain about sales despite the fact they didn't advertise the WiiU version of the game or provide DLC or pushed the launch date so far back that people have already moved on.

That's a good point. Activision's and Infinity Ward's excuse of poor sales loses quite a bit of legitimacy if they never put in any advertising time for the Wii U port. COD, like sports titles, have a habit of drawing in the nontraditional gaming crowd, so why would said crowd look for COD on the Wii U if it hasn't been advertised to them?

#224148 COD: Ghosts Officially Confirmed for Wii U

Posted by McMurphy on 19 June 2013 - 01:17 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Well, the odds are that it will be coming to the Wii U, regardless of the linked article. The only time a COD title hasn't been ported to Nintendo in the Wii era was the second Modern Warfare title. Of course, that does cause a bit of hesitation on my part to conclude it is a sure thing since said missing title was an Infinity Ward release as well.

While I think the hastily written article that was linked is a good sign, it is hardly an official announcement. At best, it is third-hand information with minimal details included.

I do think that Ghosts will be another chapter in a Nintendo port of a Call of Duty title: late in announcement, in the back of the line when it comes to developer support, and it will continue the trend (without exception) of Nintendo players getting no DLC. It isn't an ideal situation for us COD playing Nintendo fans, but I will be glad to play another round of COD on the only platform that provides motion control support for the series. :)

#224095 COD: Ghosts Officially Confirmed for Wii U

Posted by McMurphy on 19 June 2013 - 11:32 AM in Wii U Games and Software

You are right. In fact, the official Call of Duty website makes no mention of a Wii U port anywhere, which could be telling since they already have forum and pre-order sections for the Xbox360, XboxOne, PS3, PS4, and the PC. Looking back at the source of this topic's article, it may be too soon to categorize a Wii U release of Call of Duty: Ghosts as "official."

#224091 Mario Kart 8

Posted by McMurphy on 19 June 2013 - 11:23 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I love what I have seen. I wasn't particularly happy to see bikes make a return, but I did notice that no one was popping wheelies to gain that OP boost. That is a good sign. I have no problems with the gliding or the hovering aspects of gameplay. I am sure they will both enhance the craziness of the matches. As long as they don't slow down good chunks of the race like Sonic Racing 2 did, gamers shouldn't have a problem, overall.

Unless I missed it, a link to the official Developer's Video hasn't yet been posted in this topic. Here it is:

My ears perked at two features mentioned in said video:

  1. The game automatically creates highlight videos of each race. Get ready, Youtube!
  2. You can create your own custom tournaments complete with its own set of rules. The MK clans will have fun with that!

#224083 "Console Wars"

Posted by McMurphy on 19 June 2013 - 11:12 AM in General Gaming

As much as I enjoy the Wii U and have no buyer's regrets, I think PS4 clearly won the E3 console wars. XboxOne did a fantastic job at casting themselves as the evil overlords in pretty much every consumer concern.

#224080 How many of Nintendo's E3 Wii U games are you getting?

Posted by McMurphy on 19 June 2013 - 11:08 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Mario Kart 8 is at the very top of that list for me. Sure, I think I will get some of the other titles, but, really, it is all about my favorite kart driving franchise. The only complaint I have about the information that Nintendo has shown thus far is the release date. It is a real shame that not more of their heavy hitters are going to be here for the 2013 Christmas season when the console is already struggling so badly.

#224078 Who Tried Out the Best Buy Demos?

Posted by McMurphy on 19 June 2013 - 11:04 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Nintendo made a pretty big deal about having demos of upcoming games at specified Best Buy locations during the week of E3. Who here had a chance to actually try out any of those demos, first hand?

Personally, I was planning to, but I was out of town (and off the continent for that matter) during the week of E3, so I missed my opportunity. I am particularly interested in hearing thoughts about Mario Kart 8 from the folks that got to give it a test drive.

#224075 COD: Ghosts Officially Confirmed for Wii U

Posted by McMurphy on 19 June 2013 - 11:00 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Glad to hear that Call of Duty: Ghosts will be coming to the Wii U. We might as well get this out of the way: No, we will not be getting DLC for it. LOL

#222853 Gunslingers ~ The Nintendo Wii U Clan for Adults.

Posted by McMurphy on 16 June 2013 - 08:03 PM in Competitions & Matchmaking

The Gunslinger 6 Year Anniversary Celebration continues!

Here are a few additional events that have been added to the GS fun:

  • Frosty Pints Trivia Night - Grab a brew and answer some real-time trivia, bar style!
  • GS Arcade Tournament - Play like it is 1985 and attempt to hold the highscore!

Also, one of our members by the name of GS*EnemyOnWheels has reached the milestone of making 1,000 posts in our clan's forums. He purposefully saved his 1,000th post to leave the following kind message about the Gunslingers:

This is my 1,000th post in the forum and I figured I would mark this milestone with a special post.

I signed up for the forum nearly 2 years ago when I was getting ready for BF3 and decided I needed to find some people to run with. I was hoping to find a small group of people willing to actually play as a team and use mics. But what I found was something so much better.

Since joining GS I have made friends with people from all over the world and in all walks of life. I play all kinds of games with GS and sometimes just shoot the breeze for a while in the chat room. With the new generation of consoles rapidly approaching from the horizon of the future things can only get better. Game devs know now that we enjoy the social side of games and seem to be looking at expanding that side of things.

So a big thank you to Murph and Toezer for making this place what it is. And thank you to the leaders for all the hard work they do behind the scenes. We might not see all the work you guys put in but we certainly see the benefits in how well GS runs. And I'm sure we all see a massive difference if you stopped.

LONG LIVE GS

It happened again. Another year passed with the Gunslingers clan still in operation. Another year passed with a record amount of new faces joining what was once the humble posse of a dirty dozen. Another year passed with all of us traveling together to new games for new experiences. Another year passed, and the month of June 2013 marks the six-year anniversary of the Gunslingers!

Congratulations! I hope all of you feel as proud as I am for what we have accomplished. From this time last year, we have seen our group for mature, casual gamers expand by 2,000 more members, bumping up our roster to 6,000 members in just six years. Such growth and continued success could not be possible without the ever inviting nature of you. It has always been incredibly important that we all chipped in and added ourselves to the Master Lists, sent out invites, posted greetings in response to new members' introductions, and displayed eagerness to help each other out. Thank you.

Acknowledgement must be given to the GS Leaders. They donate their time to help organize, wrangle issues, and perform group updating at an unmatched pace. If it was not for them and their collective talents, we would not be here today celebrating such a milestone. To the GS Leaders present and past, thank you.

Who knows what the future brings for the Gunslingers. With the next generation of platforms on their way, there is plenty of new territory to explore. And I hope all of you continue to explore as Gunslingers.

There are events set up throughout June to help bring us together to celebrate our sixth anniversary, and they are listed below:

Flashback Weekend - During the weekend of June 15th, the GS Forums will be converted back to how it looked in 2009. Brace yourself. ;)
Anniversary Banner - A special anniversary version of the GS Forum's banner has been added.
Member Spotlight - June's Member Spotlight features a member, GS*Dick Lazer, who has been with us since July, 2009.
Frosty Pint Raffle - Enter for a chance to win an actual Gunslinger Frosty Pint mug.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Tournament - A pool party that goes terribly wrong!
And More to Be Announced!

#216410 Nintendo said my ID was inappropriate so I had to delete it

Posted by McMurphy on 05 June 2013 - 10:30 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I got a email saying my user ID was inappropriate so the ID was blocked for other users to see. This was 2 weeks after having it ID was STDVirus!

Really? Are you really that surprised that it was deleted? I mean, why did you pick it in the first place? Was it because it was controversial, or was it because of personal status?

I applaud Nintendo and its foresight to know that the parent of their ten year old shouldn't see a message left in the Super Mario Bros U progress Miiverse feature by a "STDVirus."

#213579 007 Legend Cheap on Amazon

Posted by McMurphy on 30 May 2013 - 08:18 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I believe the Wiimote is no longer a controller option for James Bond Legends, correct? If so, not interested, regardless of the price.

#213577 COD Ghosts Outed By E3Insider

Posted by McMurphy on 30 May 2013 - 08:16 PM in Wii U Games and Software

It severally depends on whether or not players will continue to have the option to use the Wiimote+nunchuck control setting to play Ghosts online. If they limit it to "driving tank" controls, it will lose the appeal of playing it on the Wii U system for me, personally.

#212784 Virus infected URL detected on the forums

Nothing on my end. Keep in mind that if your computer is infected locally, it often manifests itself online by displaying pop-ups to you, particular on sites you most often visit.

Hell-o! i just got Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate yesterday, having quite a lot of fun with it, i wish i could find anyone online to play with though. Mind if i join?

Thank you for joining and welcome aboard! :D

-----------------------------------------------------

Happy Memorial Day weekend, everyone! :)

In case you are checking your computer, laptop, iphone, tablet, or Star Trek communicator during a lull in the BBQ you are attending, the Gunslingers clan has several updates to share!

Gunslingers Six Year Anniversary Approaching! - Yes, six years. Wow! We are less than a week away before we start our celebration month of being a group for six years. What a trip! Look for more announcements at the beginning of June.

Faster Load Times! After the virtual version of having a wrestling match with GoDaddy, we have vastly improved the load times while exploring our clan's Forums and Blog. Amen to advancement!

GS*Twitch.tv! - As posted some time back, Gunslinger members who actively stream gaming broadcasts get showcased in a special section of the GS Forums. To help members out on getting more viewers and relating updates for their channels, each member gets their own forum board! GS*Stauchabilly is the most recent member to add himself to the showcase.

Expanded GS Forum Options! - We have installed two new nifty abilities that members can use while posting in our clan's forums. First, they can now make their messages scroll across the page much like a news ticker. That includes icons and images. Also, they can post a countdown clock within any of their posts or signatures by simply typing the the date and name of the event. Both new features are a click of a button away!

GS*Chat Now With News Feeds! - Our clan's text chat page now includes news feeds of your favorite game. Simply use the drop down menu, select your game, and view the official Twitter feeds for it as they are updated in real time. It should make for good conversation starters in chat!

Thank you for taking the time to read about some of our most recent news on the Gunslingers front. Again, I hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend! All kickback-minded older gamers are welcome to join us in our fun.
