#139202 WII U SURROUND SOUND PROBLEM SOLVED!

Posted by illogicology on 27 November 2012 - 01:38 PM in Wii U Hardware

It's a sing along, start again and we'll jump in on the second "LPCM - Dolby TruHD - DTS Master Audio are all loss-less audio."

#138869 WII U SURROUND SOUND PROBLEM SOLVED!

Posted by illogicology on 27 November 2012 - 03:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

Pure bull... I have a Logitech sound system, and its one of a few cheaper sets that supports a pc at 5.1, and now if I want 5.1 on my console I need a whole new system because they chose not to go with the industry standard, or at least give the option? Pure ridiculousness.

Surely if it's a PC system, it's using three 3.5mm jacks right? That's their usual setup a no home A/V stuff uses that input.

Nobody is really losing anything from this decision. The Wii U is pretty much an HDMI only device, you can't output picture via HDMI and audio from the MultiAV port either so people without HDMI receivers were out of luck anyway.

Though, there is one silly decision according the American WiiU owners of NeoGAF. When you're listening to a stereo source, instead of sending a stereo signal it still outputs 5.1 but only sends information to the front channels. This means that if you do have it hooked up to an HDMI receiver, you're not going to be able to get ProLogic or DTS:Neo6 surround sound extrapolated because the receiver thinks it's getting 5.1 already.

#140307 Official Nintendo Network ID Sharing Thread

Mine is the same as this, illogicology. Feel free to add me, just bought Trine which I believe has online co-op ( haven't checked yet) so if you're grabbing that too, I could use a teammate.

#136667 Wii U 'Has A Horrible, Slow CPU' Says Metro Last Light Dev

Posted by illogicology on 23 November 2012 - 05:18 AM in Wii U Hardware

THQ aint in the position to be picky. The Wii U seems to be a profitable train to ride on and if THQ doest want to cash in on it so its THQ's loss and perhaps their eventual death.

It is right now but that might not be the case for long. Nintendo has been pretty clever in getting the jump on the competition like this, but AAA titles can take years to develop well. THQ might miss out for a year, but the truth is that the Wii U is something of a gamble, and nobody knows where Nintendo will be in 2014. I can think of another console that launched a year before the competition, did very well for a bit and then died, taking the whole hardware division of its parent company with it.

Have you even read about the PS4/nextbox rumors? Other than power they sound stupid. So I think the Big N is safe.

Rumours are just that, rumours. This Wii U is a very risky move and releasing now means it has to fight for a market share during two console generations. Launching a console a year ahead of the competition, with less power than the competition and relying on more unconventional features to differentiate yourself in the market is a risky strategy. It paid off for Nintendo with the Wii but that was in a very different economic climate and with an industry in a very different place. Furthermore, in a year's time the Wii U isn't just going to be fighting against the new consoles, but against the Wii's reputation which was soured towards the end of its life. There's a section of the Wii owning market that felt marginalised in the last generation and they'll be more cautious this time and so all Microsoft and Sony really need to do to win over that demographic is promise a steady supply of mainstream, modern games.

#139525 Can you watch AVI / MPEG4 on a Wii U gamepad?

Posted by illogicology on 28 November 2012 - 03:03 AM in Wii U Hardware

No, the WiiU has no built in media player functions aside from its various video streaming services.

#139723 Can you watch AVI / MPEG4 on a Wii U gamepad?

Posted by illogicology on 28 November 2012 - 12:11 PM in Wii U Hardware

I wasn't wrong. A complex workaround that works by accessing outside services through the browser is not the same thing, not even close, and is very unlikely to be the kind of functionality OP was asking about.

#139760 Can you watch AVI / MPEG4 on a Wii U gamepad?

Posted by illogicology on 28 November 2012 - 01:31 PM in Wii U Hardware

It's how most people did it on the other consoles when they were first released without playback of some filetypes like the Ps3 and matroska h264 files.
How is leaving a computer on and double-clicking a program complex?

That people used it for other consoles is totally irrelevant to the point I'm making which is that firstly, it's not a feature of the console and is simply a workaround that can be achieved via the browser and secondly, not what the OP was asking since he specified that we was talking about files from the hard drive. You know perfectly well what the guy was asking and that the answer is no.

Can the Wii U play video files on the gamepad? No. It's a simple question. Yes you can play video files on your PC, and use third party software to view them on the Wii U's browser (probably, haven't heard of anyone actually doing it yet) but that is not the same thing.

Leaving a computer on a double clicking a program isn't complex, but those aren't the only steps and the more steps there are, the further and further it goes from being a reasonable proposition for most people. It's complex because it's a lot more fiddly and time consuming than loading videos on to a PSP/Vita which is the type of support the guy was asking about.

#136732 CAPU's Pikmin Club visit and enjoy a daily dose of pikmin

Posted by illogicology on 23 November 2012 - 08:27 AM in The Café

Pikmin 3 is the reason my girlfriend and I are getting the Wii U. I'm a big fan of the series. As for my girlfriend, she's completed the first so many times. She plays it at least once every six months. Speaking of which, we'll have to get the Wii version of Pikmin at some point since the Wii U won't play Gamecube games.

#140572 Your experiences with the "Wii U Transfer Tool"

Posted by illogicology on 29 November 2012 - 03:01 PM in Wii U Hardware

I just did this today, it was pretty quick and I didn't have any problems. However, I had read about people having errors half way through that left their content stuck between two systems, so I actually deleted most the content from my Wii first so the transfer only had to move save files and licenses. Sure I had to redowload a lot on the other side, but it was a smoother process overall and I could get the rest of my content at my leisure then.

#140733 Wii U clock speeds are found by marcan

Posted by illogicology on 29 November 2012 - 11:28 PM in Wii U Hardware

But that wasn't even a clock while running a game. It's not it's actual clock speed. Even of it is, though, the GPU is meant to help the CPU. So again, you are aspect and blowing it to be a bigger deal.

It's not an idle clock rate, he says that a few tweets after OP stopped quoting. If he's right, and there's very little to doubt him for, that's the full clock speed of the chip.

#139523 Tally-ho, pip pip and Cheerio, it's the British Wii U Launch Thread.

Posted by illogicology on 28 November 2012 - 03:02 AM in Wii U Hardware

I wanted a white one but i thought it was a better deal buying the black since it came with more memory and a game

The black one just didn't seem worth it to me. A game I wasn't hugely interested in, storage I'll need to expand anyway, a discount/loyalty scheme that's dependent on my spending £50-£60 on eShop purchases for £5 off and a sensor bar I can just take from the Wii. Might as well pay £50 less and get NintendoLand, USB HDD and spare sensor bar over the next couple of years as I need them.

Well, mine just arrived. Fighting with it to take my Wi-fi settings now, but all looks pretty snazzy. More to come.

I'm not worried about stock problems affecting me really. Not only did I get my pre-order through back in September, but I ordered the Ghetto White model too.

As the OP, I'd like to say that I'm happier saying this like "pip pip" than derogatory things like "spasticated."

i actually work for Amazon, i am about to go to my desk in the next few hours and i may be able to give you an update on when we will start shipping them. As of Sunday we only had Zombiu Sets in and no basics or deluxe. Hopefully it wont be a mess like Black Ops 2, A few thousand people got it a day late :/ but then again there was way more copies. I know somebody said at Amazon about not shipping until Wednesday night at the earliest to ensure they dont get delivered early.

Any updates would be much appreciated. Going to such lengths to make sure they don't arrive early seems strange. I know Friday is release day and they don't want to upset Nintendo, but it doesn't seem to be much of a problem for ShopTo. I'm pretty sure they do it on purpose.

Not that I mind. I've had a lot of good experience with Amazon and so long as I get it on release day, I've nothing to complain about. I suppose they don't really need to worry about differentiating themselves from the competition, they are the competition.

Just thought I would mention there's a pinned topic in this forum where everyone's already been trading NNIDs its highly convenient as a list of NNIDs has been compiled there. Also other PAL territories such as Australia et al will be getting the Wii U come the 30th so would be cool to hear their Wii U stories aswell :)

Compiled NNID thread is good, will hunt it down. We should still have a regional list though since I quite enjoy playing games with people who are awake at the same time as me. :)

P.S The Aussies can join this thread if AND ONLY IF they stop beating us at cricket.

Is there Jam?

Yes. But the Bees have got into it!

Good morning, Chaps.

Now, as you all know, Professor Nintendo's Fantabulous Wee-ooh Gaming Machine ™ arrives at the White Cliffs of Dover within a week. To celebrate this remarkable state of affairs, I am introducing this thread for the rest of us charming Gentlemen to discuss the impending launch. Feel free to keep us updated on deliveries, stock issues, UK Wii U news and even excitement when it finally arrives. Nothing too vulgar, if you please. At the end of the whole sordid affair, we can tidy up and swap NNIDs.

I'll get the kettle on.

Ahh... so it Bee Strawberry jam with no sugar but added Bee.... I assume for sweetness. Second thoughts I'll have a salmon & cucumber sarnie ;)

Good choice, sir.

So, are you waiting for your Wii U?

Yep Indeed, I have mine ordered with a local GAME store, sadly I have a lazy @ss manager who wont open at midnight....The nerve of it :).... so at least i'll get a goodnights sleep i guess.

Oh noes!

I have gone with Amazon. I know it's not as exciting as the midnight launch, but I like to save for stuff like this in Amazon vouchers and I had about £75's worth built up when pre-orders opened so it was silly to go elsewhere.

I live near Leeds and went to my local Game store (White Rose) to have a quick play with there demo unit. Must admit it was Fantastic. Found out whilst i was there that they are not having a midnight launch. They are going to open up at 7.00am instead
Just had 2 e-mails come through from ShopTo on my i-phone 2 minutes ago. My Assassins Creed 3 pre order is now being processed. Looks like everything will be with me for Friday. The anticipation is killing me now :D

That's my local Game too! I live in Morley. They never have midnight launches because it would necessitate keeping the whole centre open.

I agree the only reason I preordered with game is £500 store credit from previous trade-in's

Ooh, nice.

My only concern now is delivery. I'm on leave anyway so I'm not going to miss it, but if Amazon send my Parcel with Yodel again then I just might cry.

Mercy, is it Wednesday already? Amazon UK dispatches should kick off tonight, by all accounts. Excitement.
