#141236 Hello everyone

Posted by Phanto on 30 November 2012 - 08:07 PM in Introduction Central

I got my very own Wii U Deluxe on launch day and I'm looking for a good community to join. I look forward to making some friends here!

#141416 Where the crap is sonic?

Posted by Phanto on 01 December 2012 - 08:44 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Well, as far as I'm concerned, there hasn't been a great Sonic game since Sonic the Hedgehog 3. I attribute that to the fact the original Sonic Team doesn't even exist anymore. To be perfectly honest I would much rather not have any new Sonic games until Sonic Team can really give us something amazing.

But that is just my own opinion on the matter. I'm sure if Sonic Team put together something like Sonic Generations on the Wii U then people would buy it. I like Sonic Generations just fine. It was actually a pretty good game, but it wasn't perfect by any means. I'd probably buy a sequel if they made one.

You know what else concerns me about these modern Sonic titles? Eggman. I hate that name. Hate it! I call him Dr. Robotnik. He will always be Dr. Robotnik. Death to Eggman!

#141663 Your favourite game so far?

Posted by Phanto on 01 December 2012 - 06:22 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Right now my favorite Wii U game is Zombi U. I was hoping that New Super Mario Bros. U would really shine on this new console, and bring something new to the series. Nintendo managed to disappoint me, but I still feel the game isn't a complete failure.

In any case, I'm a huge survival horror fan and Zombi U happens to be exactly what I was wanting from that genre.

I may write more about my Wii U impressions on my IGN blog...

#148204 Just tried Rayman Legends demo, so good!

Posted by Phanto on 14 December 2012 - 10:53 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Thank you for posting this! You just reminded me to go and download it right now.

I am glad you're enjoying it. This is exactly the type of game I was hoping to get on the Wii, but I don't think we ever got a 2D platformer Rayman game... Did we?

Anyway, I seriously need to quit typing this post and download the demo. Why am I still here?

#148206 Monolith Soft talks about it's upcoming Wii U project

Posted by Phanto on 14 December 2012 - 11:07 PM in Wii U Games and Software

It certainly sounds interesting, but without any information on what it actually is I can't get excited about it yet. Hope to hear some real new soon.

Thanks for posting the info!

#148208 Just tried Rayman Legends demo, so good!

You got Rayman Origins last year on the Wii.

Oh yeah! You're right!! For whatever reason I was thinking that was a 3DS game. Silly me (It may have been on both?)

I liked the castle rock one.

Yes! That one is my favorite right now.

#148766 do you think the wii u os will change

Posted by Phanto on 16 December 2012 - 11:17 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I have a theory as to why the OS is so slow, but I can't test it because I can't afford to buy the adapter that would probably fix things.

My theory is the long load times are due to communication between the Wii U and a Nintendo server. What happens is that the Wii U actually loads the new menu info from a server and then allows you to interact with it. If this is true then to reduce load times you would need a faster Internet connection, which you can obtain through the Wii USB LAN Adaper.

If anyone here has an adapter laying around, and you feel like testing my theory, then please let me know how it turned out for you.

#149032 do you think the wii u os will change

Posted by Phanto on 17 December 2012 - 07:19 PM in Wii U Games and Software

The Wii U OS is stored locally on the internal storage and doesn't require an Internet connection. If that was the case then anyone without an Internet connection would be seriously out of luck.

Yes, this is true. I still believe there is some network communication if you do have an Internet connection. I could still be wrong.

#172732 Colonial Marines Wii U is worst version and Gearbox made sneaky moves in deving

Posted by Phanto on 18 February 2013 - 11:53 AM in Wii U Games and Software

We have absolutely no way of varifying the accuracy of these claims, and shouldn't place much faith in them. I will wait until I buy the game myself before I judge it, or Gearbox.

#172768 Amazing Spider Man Wii U March 5th

Posted by Phanto on 18 February 2013 - 01:34 PM in Wii U Games and Software

As I am 100% in support of any 3rd party release, I will be buying the game as soon as it launches. I don't even care if it turns out to be a bad port. I'm just giving 3rd party Wii U devs my support.

#172791 Amazing Spider Man Wii U March 5th

Posted by Phanto on 18 February 2013 - 02:49 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I have this for PS3 and I was very impressed by it. I am glad it is coming to Wii U. It is funny: You guys whine about ports, yet you want as many 3rd party games on the Wii U. Beggers can't be choosers, you know.

I never complained about ports. I am loving Batman: Arkham City on Wii U. Looking forward to getting Mass Effect 3 in March (when I actually have the money to buy it).

#173120 DSU?

Posted by Phanto on 19 February 2013 - 02:09 PM in Wii U Hardware

I won't say that this isn't coming, but I am going to say that it's very much unlikely. Nintendo have merged their hand-held and console departments together, and while it certainly sounds like they're trying to merge the two into a singular device this is just not the case. By their own admission they are simply trying to unify the OS of both the handhelds and consoles. If you'd like me to find the article I can.

Though, if they did merge the two systems I'd love to have something more like a Wii U, but the Gamepad capable of gaming on the go. That way I can play a game at home, then carry it with me while I'm away from home, and finally continue to play it at home again. Seemlessly. This would be a good idea.

#174548 Need for Speed: Most Wanted U [Criterion 'definitive' version]

Posted by Phanto on 22 February 2013 - 01:02 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I am not a fan of realistic racing games. I enojy the cartoonish weapons and mayhem too much to go without, but I will definitely be buying this game on the day it releases. Let it never be said I didn't show 3rd party devs support for their hard work and effort to release a quality Wii U title.

...I may even play this game a few times.

#174552 Future NFS Games For Wii U Should Be Released Same Time As Other Consoles

Posted by Phanto on 22 February 2013 - 01:10 PM in Wii U Games and Software

If this game sells incredibly well I can see other developers taking notice. They may not change their stance immediately, but it can only be a positive for the Wii U.

#174587 Kingdom Hearts 3 Possibly Come to Wii U?

I just came across this interesting article. No confirmation is made, but it looks almost promising?

...Maybe?

#176006 Mario Land 3 in 3D

It's actually Super Mario Bros. 3, and not Mario Land 3...

#176750 What is Retro Studios Working on?

Posted by Phanto on 26 February 2013 - 03:36 PM in Wii U Games and Software

The fact that "stylized" graphics were mentioned scares me. When Nintendo did a cartoonish Zelda I was 100% on board. That universe fits the sylized cartoonish look very well, but when you start talking about a cartoonish Metroid game, you've lost me. The Metroid franchise just works best with realistic graphics, and an epic story.

If Retro is working on a Metroid game, and it turns out to be a "stylized" game, I will have a very hard time justifying the purchase. I will probably buy it and I might even enjoy it, but unless they can really impress me with gameplay/story I will find it hard to get past the cartoonish look.

#176757 Explain, what is the appeal of Monster Hunter Franchise?

Posted by Phanto on 26 February 2013 - 03:45 PM in General Gaming

Hello all,

I am a long time JRPG fan, from all the way back in the 80's. Today's RPGs are a far cry from the epic adventures they used to be, so I haven't bought a new one since... I think Golden Sun. It's been a very long time. I would love to give some more modern action RPGs a chance, so I downloaded the demo for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and I'm not impressed. Actually, to be perfectly honest I was severely disappointed. For a series that gets so much hype, I've never been so bored.

In an effort to really understand the appeal of these modern-day action RPGs I'm asking you, the fans, to please explain why this series has gained so much attention. What is it that appeals to you?

To be honest, roaming aimlessly around a vast land scape and beating an animal to death doesn't scream "fun." Maybe that's just me?

Thank you,
Phanto

#177048 Explain, what is the appeal of Monster Hunter Franchise?

Posted by Phanto on 27 February 2013 - 09:19 AM in General Gaming

First of all, Monster Hunter isn't an RPG, and I'd hardly consider it modern, since it's followed basically the same formula since the first game and is very different from current action adventure games.

The main appeal of Monster Hunter is its challenge. Maybe you beat the Lagomi (or did you?) just by whaling away at it, but that won't work for most monsters. Most weapons require good timing and prediction, so when you're fighting monsters that are much faster than you, it can get pretty tough.

Another appeal is multiplayer. Online monsters are tougher than they are in single player, so you need good teamwork and weapon diversity to take them down.

One last thing I really like about Monster Hunter is that your character has no stats, so the only way to improve is through practice and observation, not grinding like your typical RPG. You can make better weapons and armor, but these are useless if you're a bad player.

Ok. This makes more sense. I can see how this would work as a game, and I didn't know this wasn't an RPG because I was told specifically by a GameStop employee that it is an Action RPG. I guess those guys don't know what they're talking about sometimes?

I think I will rent this game and see how I enjoy the full adventure. So, there are no RPG elements in it?

#179935 Producer believes LEGO City is Wii U’s best game, will sell consoles?

Posted by Phanto on 06 March 2013 - 01:14 PM in Wii U Games and Software

This games doesn't interest me in the least, so I'm passing on it. I think the game's producer is delusional?

#181603 Did Sonic Racing kill your interest in Mario Kart U?

Posted by Phanto on 11 March 2013 - 08:15 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I haven't played the full game yet, but I have downloaded and played the demo. What I have experienced so far has made me place Sonic Racing on my wishlist, but I feel the experience is too far from a true Mario Kart experience to really deter me from purchasing Mario Kart U.

As I have stated before I am a huge fan of the wacky cartoonish racing games, the realistic racers bore me. Sonic Racing's major downfall, for me, is that it isn't cartoonish and wacky enough for my taste. Now, it is certainly a far cry from anything realistic. It does has some very wacky weapons and courses. However, when I play the demo I just get a more realistic sim vibe. I can't pin point why exactly... it's kind of irrelevant. This is just my own opinion on the game, and I will be buying Mario Kart U on launch day.

Sonic Racing is a great racer! I'm going to be buying it as soon as I can.

#181657 Do you think simcity on wii u will ever happen?

Posted by Phanto on 11 March 2013 - 11:05 AM in Wii U Games and Software

After experiencing the recent troubles the latest PC release of Sim City has been having, I don't really want another Sim City. Maxis seems to be making a lot of poor choices recently...

#181905 Nintendo E3 2013 Lineup

Posted by Phanto on 12 March 2013 - 07:46 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I am looking forward to everything you listed, and I'm hoping for a few surprises. I know it's not a good idea to get too excited, because two E3 conferences in a row have been huge let-downs, but I can't help it.

I just want Nintendo to finally show us what an amazing year they have planned for us!
