#187808 Zombi U Problem

Posted by Phanto on 29 March 2013 - 12:47 PM in General Gaming

I have been playing Zombi U since it launched and the other day I encountered something that now has me scared to continue my file, as it seems Ubisoft has deliberately created scenarios I can't overcome.

What happened was that I was messing around in the ealier part of the game, just having fun and seeing what kind of mischief I can get into with the zombies, and at the part where you leave the supermarket after scanning the second CCTV, I exited the supermarket and ran under the fence then proceeded to climb the ladder. I had never done this before and thought it would be fun to shoot some zombies from up high, where they can't reach me. This is where I encountered a very big problem.

While you're up there the game will just spawn zombies at random right on top of you! They just fall out of the sky and attack. Now, this is insanity because you have very limited resources and you can't defend yourself and be on the offensive at the same time.

Has anyone encountered any other part of the game like this? Being placed into a scenario from which there is no desirable outcome is not cool. Not cool at all.

I'm just a tad past that I think, and while I was up there that never happened to me. o.O

Yeah, see, it had to have been a glitch because if the developers deliberately don't want you to succeed how are you supposed to beat the game? So, I'm going to try this again tonight and see if it happens again.

#141663 Your favourite game so far?

Posted by Phanto on 01 December 2012 - 06:22 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Right now my favorite Wii U game is Zombi U. I was hoping that New Super Mario Bros. U would really shine on this new console, and bring something new to the series. Nintendo managed to disappoint me, but I still feel the game isn't a complete failure.

In any case, I'm a huge survival horror fan and Zombi U happens to be exactly what I was wanting from that genre.

I may write more about my Wii U impressions on my IGN blog...

I had to choose others, as you failed to list Super Mario RPG in your poll.

#218244 Xbox One price and release

Posted by Phanto on 10 June 2013 - 10:18 AM in E3 2013 Archive

Yeah, I'm skipping the XBone. I maybe reconsider if that price drops. Until then I'll be paying more attention to the PS4. I want to get another console besides my Wii U.

#209547 Xbox 720 Official Reveal Thread

Posted by Phanto on 21 May 2013 - 10:59 AM in General Gaming

it's strange to me that people seem to decide what they are buying before they even know anything about it.

I have to agree. It doesn't make much sense.

#236379 Wind Waker Price & Masterquest?

Posted by Phanto on 01 August 2013 - 09:15 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I would have bought at $50 if the water effects were better update. It seems like it's going to be a rushed remake.

What the heck are you even talking about? Seriously, I'm completely lost here. You weren't expecting realistic water were you? If so, you're completely missing the point Like, entirely missing it. Not just by a little, but if you were shooting an arrow at a target you'd be firing it in the opposite direction of said target.

I am ashamed to admit that even though I loved this game on the GameCube, I never completed it. Mostly due to that whole water traveling nonsense. That was just dumb, requiring you to sail across an ocean to grab things. I also don't care for flying in Skyward Sword. That was also dumb.

On the plus side, I actually completed Skyward Sword. Even though the flying was a major deterrent for me.

#228318 Wii U Save Data Non-transferable, Why?

Posted by Phanto on 02 July 2013 - 02:57 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Frankly I'd just be happy if they implemented a share method, so I can put my game saves onto a usb stick then plug it into my friend's Wii U to continue where I left off.

Actually, it'd be awesome if they can somehow put a roaming profile onto the USB drive so I can somehow play my downloaded games and access my Miiverse account on my friend's Wii U.

Yes! This is exactly what we need.

#227991 Wii U Save Data Non-transferable, Why?

Posted by Phanto on 01 July 2013 - 01:06 PM in Wii U Games and Software

...Unfortunately I cannot try to reformat my hard drive on my computer as it is not compatible with Windows 8.

This is where having a Linux system comes in handy. If you plug a Wii U formatted hard drive into a Linux computer it will recognize the drive and you can then format it to a Windows compatible format. So... maybe run Ubuntu Linux in a Virtual Machine on your Windows PC? That may work, but having never tried it I can't make any promises.

Also, you may want to try and format the drive using Disk Manager in Windows 8.

#228011 Wii U Save Data Non-transferable, Why?

Posted by Phanto on 01 July 2013 - 02:43 PM in Wii U Games and Software

You can't see the files on the drive because they're using a proprietary file system format.

Most likely Fat32 with some weird crap to make it different.

It's to slow down hacks.

I know they're using a proprietary format.

If it's to slow down hacks then why wasn't this necessary on the Wii? No one hacked Virtual Console games. This is overkill.

#227948 Wii U Save Data Non-transferable, Why?

Posted by Phanto on 01 July 2013 - 10:39 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Most Wii owners are familiar with the fact that save data from your games can be transferred to an SD Card, and then onto your computer. This allows you the freedom to backup the saves to your hard drive or in the cloud. I myself have all of my Wii saves backed up on the cloud.

This is not possible on the Wii U, as the file system used to format the external USB storage devices is not recognized my most common Operating Systems (I use Ubuntu Linux and while my computer does recognize the USB device, and I can access the device, I cannot actually see any of the files. However, this could be my own systems settings and perhaps another Ubuntu user has better luck viewing files?).

I am left wondering why this is so. No one was able to crack Nintendo's encryption on the Wii downloads, such as Virtual Console titles, so why the overkill in protecting the Wii U saves? Why cripple our ability to save and share save data? This hinders my ability to share my saved game with another gamer who may have trouble beating a level that I've beaten on my save.

I have attempted to come up with a reasonable answer, like preventing piracy or maybe region locking may have something to do with it, and so far nothing really makes sense. It would appear as the only reason Nintendo have opted to cripple our user experience is for the simple fact that they can. I don't want to accept this, so maybe someone out there has a reasonable answer? How does this improve out experience as gamers? I can't backup my files to the cloud. Therefore, if my Wii U breaks and my hard drive backup crashes, then I lose everything. No cloud backup leaves me with nothing... how is that a good thing?

#228023 Wii U Save Data Non-transferable, Why?

Posted by Phanto on 01 July 2013 - 03:14 PM in Wii U Games and Software

How is it overkill? It's really simple.

Overkill would be doing something aggressively like doing online checks every 24 hours.

This is passive, and will be broken if it hasn't been already so you can back up your files.

This is overkill in the sense that they are taking needless steps to hinder out experience. If there was an issue with the Wii then this would make sense. Since no hacker was able to do anything to decrypt Wii data I fail to see the reasoning behind crippling our experience as users. It's completely unwarranted.

#216591 Wii U meta-rewards

Posted by Phanto on 06 June 2013 - 09:58 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. The trophy/achievement system is a terrible system. I'd refuse to participate. I play games because I like them, I don't need to stomp on 10,000 Goombas to get a little icon that says I stomped on 10,000 Goombas.

#219763 Wii U getting game DVR functionality?

Posted by Phanto on 11 June 2013 - 01:28 PM in E3 2013 Archive

Don't read too much into the camera icon, as that could simply state the camera mode the player is using. For example a "stationary" camera mode or one that allows it to be moved freely.

#219752 Wii U Developer Directs

Posted by Phanto on 11 June 2013 - 01:16 PM in E3 2013 Archive

These are all great! I am not sure how to feel about Nintendo's presence at E3 this year. While I enjoyed it, I feel they took a very cautious approach and allowed Microsoft and Sony to drown them out with hype... which is bad. Hopefully they are doing the right thing, and these will surely help.

#240265 Why Not Playing a Console You Own is Insane

Posted by Phanto on 19 August 2013 - 09:00 AM in General Gaming

I'm so sick of hearing people say "I haven't played anything on my Nintendo console for months!" because that's your own fault, idiot. You're the stupid face who decided that since there is a perceived drought you're going to just ignore it and do absolutely nothing about finding a game you will enjoy playing on it. This isn't Nintendo's fault, this isn't the fault of 3rd party developes, this is ALL you, lazy butt.

What I have I been doing with my Wii U during this crazy "drought" you all speak of, which doesn't exist in reality in any way (so get a reality check),I've been enjoying a ton of Wii Ware titles. That's right! Wii Ware! There are a bunch of awesome games I hadn't yet discovered and I just rediscovered Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, this time I download the DLC and and am having fun with that, kept me playing my Wii U all weekend actually.

So, to recap. If you're so sure there are no games to play, you're a moron. Also, you have no idea how to use your console. Promptly return it, thanks.

...jerk.

#240290 Why Not Playing a Console You Own is Insane

Posted by Phanto on 19 August 2013 - 10:49 AM in General Gaming

Maybe it's just your friendly approach, but that post makes me not want to play my WII U simply to defy you.

Ha! I like your style. :-)

Because you enjoy playing the 4 games available and other people dont that makes everyone else a moron...

I like your logic

But that's juts it! There aren't only 4 games. See, you're a moron because you think there are only a few games to play. If you actually do some looking around you will see that there actually hundreds. This includes Virtual Console and the Indie games on the eShop. You should be playing those.

#231819 Why is NintendoLand panned as bad?

Posted by Phanto on 15 July 2013 - 12:23 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I don't like it because I don't like party games. I don't like anything that is a collection of minigames packaged into something and passed off as good. Nintendo really stepped in it when they thought that was a good idea.

Yes, I have played it. Couldn't stand it. Haven't played it again since... November? It's been a long time.

#225982 Who would you want developing a potential Wii U Star Fox?

Posted by Phanto on 25 June 2013 - 08:58 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Nintendo does good work, I'd want them to do it. I don't like that they rely on other studios...

#141416 Where the crap is sonic?

Posted by Phanto on 01 December 2012 - 08:44 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Well, as far as I'm concerned, there hasn't been a great Sonic game since Sonic the Hedgehog 3. I attribute that to the fact the original Sonic Team doesn't even exist anymore. To be perfectly honest I would much rather not have any new Sonic games until Sonic Team can really give us something amazing.

But that is just my own opinion on the matter. I'm sure if Sonic Team put together something like Sonic Generations on the Wii U then people would buy it. I like Sonic Generations just fine. It was actually a pretty good game, but it wasn't perfect by any means. I'd probably buy a sequel if they made one.

You know what else concerns me about these modern Sonic titles? Eggman. I hate that name. Hate it! I call him Dr. Robotnik. He will always be Dr. Robotnik. Death to Eggman!

#176750 What is Retro Studios Working on?

Posted by Phanto on 26 February 2013 - 03:36 PM in Wii U Games and Software

The fact that "stylized" graphics were mentioned scares me. When Nintendo did a cartoonish Zelda I was 100% on board. That universe fits the sylized cartoonish look very well, but when you start talking about a cartoonish Metroid game, you've lost me. The Metroid franchise just works best with realistic graphics, and an epic story.

If Retro is working on a Metroid game, and it turns out to be a "stylized" game, I will have a very hard time justifying the purchase. I will probably buy it and I might even enjoy it, but unless they can really impress me with gameplay/story I will find it hard to get past the cartoonish look.

#221642 What happened to Yarn Yoshi?

Posted by Phanto on 14 June 2013 - 07:35 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I'm going to guess that sometime between now and the year's end we will get a Nintendo Direct mentioning it. This direct will explain just a few more details, maybe a solid release date and then we'll hear nothing until the next one, where it will be detailed further and then finally the game releases. No real fanfare or celebration.

#224074 What are your plans for launch?

Posted by Phanto on 19 June 2013 - 11:00 AM in General Gaming

Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed 4 will both be Wii U purchases for me, and I've never played a Killzone game so I guess I'll be buying that one on my PS4.

#185309 What are a YOU going to do if GTAV is not coming to Wii U?

Posted by Phanto on 22 March 2013 - 09:25 AM in Wii U Games and Software

There isn't anything I can do, except continue to enjoy my Wii U. :-)
