#175541 Gaming in general seems to have run out of creative ideas

Posted by PedanticGamer on 24 February 2013 - 02:07 PM in General Gaming

Sure we get the occasional Little Big Planet or Hotline Miami but it feels like modern games are getting pretty stale. Which is why I like nintendo, but nintendo is milking the crap out of new super mario bros. What do you think? I honestly want nintendo to come out with at least 3 titles of new IP and 5 new revisions of francises. Will this happen? Probably not but it would be nice. Lets talk about what we want from gaming! Also I wish companys would go back to the old school FPS (Serious Sam, though Serious Sam is still getting games :P, Doom NOT 3, Blood, Shadow Warrior, Duke Nukem 3D, Wolfenstein 3d ect.) as those are way more fun and allow way more creativity than modern FPS (CoD, BattleField, every CoD and Battlefield clone, zombiu ect.) It feels like modern games are either too linear or not linear enough too :3. What are your opinions on the subject?

Try Crysis 3 (its not to linear or not linear enough) and allows for crazy action and stealth (for example I connected c4 to a car, power kicked the car of a cliff and set of the c4 on a group on enemy soldiers whilst jumping of the cliff and mid air shoot a straggler with the bow, then changed to my tip after sliding behind cover of the previously just exploding car, to some electric tips and shot the water at the last group of enemies frying them all, all this happened in under 30 seconds). The best part of all this in Crysis 3 is I doubt anyone else did exactly what I did there as it gives you so many options, you also have to be good to pull such action of and your average player will be very unlikely to be able to do it immediately upon playing. What about dishonored, another great fps recently released which similar to crysis 3 gives you plenty of options and is somewhat linear with huge rooms to explore and take multiple routes, or Far Cry 3 which is more or less a fps/rpg hybrid... I could go on and on, I do agree that many of Nintendo's big ips are getting stale (in particular mario... how many marios have been released in the last 2 years, to many is my opinion). Then again mario sells and Nintendo knows this and will follow the same plan they did to 'save' the 3ds, this year a price drop followed by Mario Kart and a 3d Mario game.

Personally though I have never seen so many original games being release as there are now, however on wiiU the story is different as there is very little of anything there games wise.

#175321 Ps4=Wii U in graphics IMO

Posted by PedanticGamer on 24 February 2013 - 02:24 AM in General Gaming

Agreed.

No one is arguing the ps4 isn't a good bit more powerful than the wii u.

What has been contended is that the ps4 hasn't shown anything yet that is mind losing or distances itself from the wii u.

The only things that do have that possibly is the capcom non-game footage. and that looks amazing. Ps4 should be able to pull that off in certain game type situations when the system is fully utilized.

For most games, the wii u will stack up well. And the wii u itself hasn't even been tapped yet.

The reflections in the Killzone vid far exceed what the wiiU has shown itself to be able to do and in all likelihood is more then the wiiU will be able to do. Is that a problem, well yes and no. Nintendo have once again not backed power, rather a gimmick, which we have yet to see how much that will entice people.

Posted by PedanticGamer on 24 February 2013 - 02:19 AM in Wii U Games and Software

I have: ZombiU and New Super Mario Bros U, both are rather average. I also played blops2 on wiiU and it was subpar compared to every other release.

#174780 Official Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Discussion

Posted by PedanticGamer on 23 February 2013 - 06:01 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Your reasoning makes little sense. I don't care how tired you and every other Monster Hunter fanboy (that's right, i said it, fanboy) is of hearing the same complaints on a thread. If it applies to the game, I'm going to talk about it. That being said, going back to my original point, there is NO reason why there shouldn't be a tutorial.

If anyone has a problem with me speaking my mind, then that's your problem, not mine. It's not like I'm speaking blasphemy.

Remember I was clearly not a fan because I wasn't happy with a cheaply done port.

#174779 Euclideon still working on Unlimited Detail

Posted by PedanticGamer on 23 February 2013 - 05:59 AM in General Gaming

When something seems to be to good to be true it generally is. I can't see any reason to pay any particular attention to this as I can't see it going anywhere.

#174778 HD Windwakers biggest problem

Posted by PedanticGamer on 23 February 2013 - 05:55 AM in Wii U Games and Software

The problem with Wind Waker HD is that a lot of people are assuming that Nintendo sees this as a form of cash cow, which it isn't.

Nintendo clearly showed in the respective ND that the intention of Wind Waker HD, is to tide over the Zelda fans as they work on the next major entry. It's by no means supposed to mean that it's Zelda Wii U. They are smart enough to know that not everyone will gear up to buy it, new features or not.

This is more aimed at people who are like me, who haven't had the privilege of playing Wind Waker. That said, I will be purchasing it, as I see it as a new entry.

Yeah you're not coming of as a fanboy at all " This is more aimed at people who are like me, who haven't had the privilege of playing Wind Waker".

It is a cash grab and wee all know it, there is also nothing wrong with that.

#174621 PS4 could probably run Windows

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 05:06 PM in General Gaming

Well the ps3 could as well.... your point. The thing is neither Sony nor Microsoft will allow it. Sony even got rid of the Linux support in the ps3.

#174590 How will sony pay for gaikai severs?

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 03:14 PM in General Gaming

Your making assumptions, how much does sony make of playsdtation plus subscriptions for example? As far as I know it hasn't been publicly stated.

#174573 killzone ps4 trailer

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 01:58 PM in General Gaming

So have you noticed yet that the WiiU recently came out? Now do you realize how long it takes to develop a truly good game for a system? Look at Skyward Sword it took 4 years to make (Me thinks). Not only that I personally believe the LoZ Demo at E3 2011 was better than this Killzone PS4 trailer.

Well you can fell it was better, but it wasn't better graphically (also we are now comparing a tech demo that had no one playing it with a gameplay demo that did). A good game doesn't need four years, most AAA development is done in two years and most of the problems tend to be design choices, not time restrictions. In any case you point doesn't excuse that even Nintnedo are throwing obvious last gen ports onto there own system and nothing else. They can't do that and expect others to do more can they?

#174567 Need for Speed: Most Wanted U [Criterion 'definitive' version]

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 01:45 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I will sya this looks better then the other console releases but definitive version? A racing game that seems to have a 30fps cap is the definitive version as apposed to an uncapped frame rate on pc.... really?

#174565 Why are people doubting Wii U now because of PS4?

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 01:42 PM in Wii U Hardware

i like console gaming. is that so bad?

Nope, but your reasoning given is faulty.

Ooh, 12 year old got a dictionary? I did say "IF THAT'S TRUE". I take it its not then? Surely there must have been a politer way to put me straight, sheesh!

Insults aren't allowed fyi, funny how someone points out you posted drivel and you call them a twelve year old presumably to prove your maturity.

#174566 killzone ps4 trailer

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 01:40 PM in General Gaming

All the released Wii U games were developed on last gen tech which is why none of the games look mind blowing yet. FYI. Wait until we see new games with the new engines before you say its last Gen.

and.... it's not like Nintendo didn't know the wiiU was coming out. If not even Nintendo can be bothered to release a game on it designed for the system for months or even up to a year, who else is going to?

#174475 Why are people doubting Wii U now because of PS4?

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 06:54 AM in Wii U Hardware

I see everyone now doubting Wii U's survival and placing their bets on PS4. They seem to be on a similar level so I don't think shared multiplats is out of the question. Nintendo has always had rough ground on third party support, and maybe always will. However, this does not mean that the Wii U will die. Nintendo first party will always have people buying it. I see no reason for the Wii U's early demise, so I honestly want your reasoning on why.

Nintendo has not had good third party support in a long time. In fact they have by far the worst third party support of any home console. Where is Crysis 3, Dead Space 3, MOHW, Bioshock Infinite, DmC , Tomb Raider, Resident Evil 6, Sniper Ghost Warrior 2, Dead Island Riptide, Metal Gear Revengeance and the list goes on and on. The vast majority of third party games have made it to the ps3, 360 and pc. Very few are making it to the wiiU and I can't imagine that is going to change all that much.

, and since they are getting rid of the second hand game market, they can swivvel for my money as if that's true, they'll never get me as a customer.

I can't believe the uninformed drivel I just read.

i dont know how i feel about pc gaming. i like to sit on my couch in front of a tv and play games.

Because you can't do that with a pc (rolls eyes).

the ps4 games wont look much better the only reason it has the specs it does is for the built in streaming and video capture. games will be forced to be able to play flawlessly while still being able to stream and capture gameplay not allowing to reach its full potential

I'm sorry but streaming is not much of a strain at all, from what I can tell we also don't know if it is an optional features that devs can choose to use, or not to use.

The WiiU has been out for months and shown nothing beyond what is now last gen capabilities. It is likely similar powerwise to the wii last gen. We shall see, but given Nintendo's recent track record and so on, I would expect the wiiU to be limited in comparison.

#174472 Wii U & PS4 (It's like the 3DS to the Vita)

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 06:42 AM in General Gaming

How about we just say that all the consoles are equally great and we just buy the systems and games that we all want! No Sony is better or Nintendo is better. They are both great and we will have fun with the consoles like we have the consoles before them.

Edit: I say this with enthusiasm in my voice not anger!

Honestly whey we don't say that is because that would be silly. We don't have enough info on the ps4 beyond what it can do visually, which I think it is safe to say the ps4 > wiiU regading graphics. Everything else, no one knows. Furthermore the wiiU atm currently has very few games and we don't know what the support for the ps4 will be like either.

#174429 Official Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Discussion

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 03:01 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Yes, i do. Your complaint makes no sense if you actually play or 'like' monster hunter. For you to feel that way, youd have to think the entire FRANCHISE was lazy. because 99% of the games are 'worse' than the 'lazy ports' of monster hunter utimate by your definition.

My expectations for this release does not = my expectations for all the prior games. I'm not going to bother responding to any more of your nonsense regarding this, it's a waste of time.

#174415 Official Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Discussion

Posted by PedanticGamer on 22 February 2013 - 01:09 AM in Wii U Games and Software

It has nothing to do with opinions, it has to do with common sense and pattern recognition.

There has NEVER been a monster hunter that has met what you expected out of this game.

and... I am allowed to increase my expectations, this is bieng released on the wiiU and falls below in several areas what I would expect.

People who like the series, DONT HAVE THOSE EXPECTATIONS, those have those expectations, dont stick with the series.

Once again I like the series (like many) and have the expectations your saying I can't have. I'm not the only one who is annoyed by an obvious cheap port with little effort present (whether I am in the minority is irrelevant, there are others). Ignoring anyone who fells displeased with some of what they have seen and writing them of clearly as not fans means of course in your eyes now fan is disappointed (as anyone who is is by your definition not a fan).

You might like screens of monster hunter, you might think you like the concept of monster hunter, or the idea of monster hunter. But its just very very apparant you dont like monster hunter from actually PLAYING monster hunter. Which is why you think it should be something its simply not.

As above, I am a fan have played several of the games and fell let down by what we have been shown. That is fact and nothing you can say can change that.

I simply think the port should be done properly, the fact that it is a lazy port is what I am not happy about. I am not disappointed gameplay wise with what we have seen. Stop assuming you know what other people do and do not like. As you simply do not.

#174171 Ps4=Wii U in graphics IMO

Posted by PedanticGamer on 21 February 2013 - 12:53 PM in General Gaming

Well, Playstation wouldn't exist without Nintendo anyway...

Guerilla Games has done more impressive things graphically with the ps3 then Naughty Dog have. Ther Last of Us may change that but for know Killzone 3 in graphical prowess still reigns supreme.

In all fairness, I don't think any Killzone game has yet to live up to the original pre-rendered K2 trailer

Well everything about that 'prerendered' trailer (note: we don't know it it was prerendered but I think it was) was done better in both Killzone 2 and 3, from lighting to character models to animations etc.

Why do gamers care so ,much for graphics and not the game itself? Vita is powerful but 3DS is doing better due to the games. I don't remember all the graphics fans during the system gens prior to Gen 7.

I would correct you there, the 3ds is not doiung better because of the games. Its more the price (and more notably) Mario and Monester Hunter.

#174169 The PlayStation 4 Thread

are you from UK? we'll probs have to wait til early 2014 for the ps4 here. japan/US will get it by xmas...those son of a byatches! :)

Australia, i'm hoping for once Sony gets there act together and we get it close to one another and not months later.

eat your hat. I've been saying all along it would be a launch title. Looks amazing.. The ps4 looks amazing.

I will happily eat my own hat as a huge Killzone fan, sony and gg had been pretty foward saying gg was working on a new ip (which I expected to be a different fps). Apparently that was a farce or purposeful misdirection.

#173886 Ps4=Wii U in graphics IMO

Posted by PedanticGamer on 20 February 2013 - 11:42 PM in General Gaming

PS4 is probably 8-10x more
Powerful than wii u, I think it's a little less than less gen, but it's not close by any means.

This, we have not seen a single thing for the wiiu that approaches what Sony have shown thus far.

Killzone was not that impressive. Also, Killzone 1 and 2 looked good for their time in trailers, but absolutely terrible when you actually played them. I don't think that was live at any rate, I think they were showing a pre-made video.

YOu are kidding, the final game looked better then the trailers in the case of both Killzone 2 and 3.

#173341 Need for speed Most wanted photos comparison with xbox360

Posted by PedanticGamer on 20 February 2013 - 12:03 AM in Wii U Games and Software

its not blurry, its washed out textures and it has movement, its not a frozen image... that means wii U got higher frame rates? You can see the details in the bricks, the distanse draw, etc

It is in motion, what do games on console nearly always use.... motion blur, ergo it is blurry.

#173331 Need for speed Most wanted photos comparison with xbox360

Posted by PedanticGamer on 19 February 2013 - 11:04 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Appear to have been taken at different times in game which makes comparisons not worth all that much (especially as the images are blurry as well).

#173325 Who will miss these titles?

Posted by PedanticGamer on 19 February 2013 - 10:41 PM in General Gaming

I'd have bought both games as well. I was really looking forward to Revengeance but I'll have to wait and see if they make it available to Wii U later. For Crysis, I liked 2 and 3 looks good, if they don't announce Wii U plans later I will probably pick it up on PC.

Dude, get it on pc. The Crysis games are made for pc.

#173324 Rayman Legends is getting free online challenges this April and...

Posted by PedanticGamer on 19 February 2013 - 10:39 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Well the developers were rushing to get the game complete, so now they can add more and fix more. Therefore, we do get a more polished version of the game. While I do not like the fact that we have to wait till September, we do get more game. But what Ubisoft needs to do is add some serious Wii U only content (besides the whole murphey gameplay).

Nothing more then could have been patched no doubt.
