#183851 how was the wiiu suppost to attract core gamers again ?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 18 March 2013 - 10:40 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'm guessing partly by having a reputation for creating classic titles exclusive to their machine core which anyone with more than a passing interest in games should have experienced. Also by having a unique control system which adds new unique features to ported titles.

I figure through targeting younger/causal gamers with the wii they sort to develop their own core gamer base. For example Nintendo Land being showcase and practice area for a range of their key titles.

Once the next gen race gets going they can drop the price to build a user base of gamers looking for a reliable machine which fits more easily into their life (off screen play) and attract 3rd party developers by having a plenty of users.

#183585 Wii U sells 4 times worse than PS3 and Xbox

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 17 March 2013 - 08:03 AM in Wii U Hardware

I think some Nintendo fans need to be more realistic in their expectations. The Wii U is once again like the GC, Wii, DS and 3DS not trying to compete in a power war with it's contemporaries. This strategy on one hand make's it less likely to attract ports on the other hand makes it attractive to a different audience.

You may not get the latest COD but you will attract developers look to target its specific target audience.

What worries me currently is the price and lack of decent advertising. Both things that can be fixed. When we they know what the others are offering then we'll hopefully see a change in approach.

3 months to e3.

3 months to Nintendo giving people some reasons to buy the console.

Really is something that it's not out-selling 6 year old crap, you'd think everyone who wanted one of those would already have them.

I suspect they is an expectation the PS4/Xbox720 will be stupidly expensive and you might as well wait a few years as the current Gen system are still putting out lots of games. I wonder how many of those sales are replacements for faulty consoles!

The Wii U is defiantly a HUGE upgrade from the Wii, The PS4 just looks like a less annoying PS3. We don't even have a date for the next Xbox.

Once all the dates/specs/prices are known for the Next gen I imagine the current gen sales will drop off as people decided to hold out.

Don't Panic!

Nintendo have hardly run out of options yet!

They can still cut the price and/or create new bundles. They might even consider some advertising!!!!!

Timing is everything so I'm expecting they'll take action both before the School Holidays and again before the Holiday season.

Even by the end of 2013 Nintendo still have room to manoeuvre.

Games are coming, Pikmin, Need for Speed, Watchdogs, Assassins creed 4, Wonderful 101,  Lego titles and I suspect a few surprises before the end of the year

In the style of MH3 Ninty may have to grind this generation but the 3DS a slow start doesn't spell doom.

#182699 Pokémon Rumble U (April 24th Japan) - First Wii U game to use NFC

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 14 March 2013 - 01:31 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I expected a more positive response to this news. If Pokemon Rumble U does half the business Skylanders does it'll be a massive bonus for the Wii U. There's a lot of concern about 3rd party support but an exclusive title like this can help build the installed base making the Wii U a more attractive option for those developers.

#180860 Loving the Wii U

I am LOVING my Wii U. Just completed Zombi U which is excellent.

The great thing is it's only going to get better. Quicker menu's, virtual console, more games and services.

Firstly... Make a thread that's completely useless

Secondly... Maintain my interest long enough to read the thread by making me think that it has some form of purpose

Thirdly... Let me realize that I was completely fooled and wasted my time

....maybe

Fourthly...take the time to leave a disparaging comment to satisfy superiority complex.

#179426 Why are people doubting Wii U now because of PS4?

#179420 Reductio ad Dreamcast

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 05 March 2013 - 10:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

So can we just let off a large air horn if anyone compares the Wii U to the Dreamcast.

HONK!

#178981 Reductio ad Dreamcast

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 04 March 2013 - 11:30 AM in Wii U Hardware

There have been plenty of often well thought out debate about the future of the Wii U but can we just leave one thing out of the argument, the Dreamcast.

Like Reductio ad Hitlerum the habit of dropping in Dreamcast into the debate is an unhelpful fallacy. Yes Sega and Nintendo are similar companies but there are a couple of very large differences which make it unhelpful to mention the D-word.

The first and most simple is this. The Wii U is the Successor of the Wii which sold 100m units worldwide. The Dreamcast followed on from the Sega Saturn which sold 10m worldwide. Secondly Sega was going broke, Nintendo is not.

Beyond that you could included differences like nintendo's successful handheld platform and the continued critical and commercial success of Mario who has weathered the leap to 3d much better than poor old sonic. The 32x, Mega CD and Saturn and test the patience of developers and consumers alike and the Dreamcast was shelved in anticipation of the PS2 which was succeeded the hugely popular PS1.

Ultimately the two machines will only ever be a like should Nintendo call it a day as a console manufacture.

#178944 Zombi V...

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 04 March 2013 - 10:05 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Dublin or Belfast could be really good.

I like the idea of a more open plan london, it's a vast city of contrasts so there is plenty of scope.

Also Normandy is a good idea, Mont Saint-Micheal would be a perfect setting.

#178661 Zombi V...

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 03 March 2013 - 12:09 PM in Wii U Games and Software

...that or Zombi U2 (Bono eats brains), I wonder what happen to Zombi A-T?

Whatever they call a sequel if they did make one where should it be set?

As a Londoner I loved the accuracy of the setting and quite frankly it made it all the more scary.

Off season Venice would be creepy (See the film Don't Look Now).

As the Developers are French I suspect they would opt for Paris.

#177068 What new nintendo IP do you want to see

Mario Paintball. Non lethal FPS for all ages!

Shoot Toad in the face. It would sell Millions.

#175536 Ubisoft confirms Watch Dogs for Wii U

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 February 2013 - 01:45 PM in Wii U Games and Software

I hope Nintendo fans who own other consoles will make the Wii U their first choice for 3rd party titles over the next 2 years if they want to see future support.

There's no point in complaining about lack of support if you ignore what support there is.

Any particular titles people want to see from the GC on the Wii U's Virtual Console?

Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader & F-Zero GX

#175449 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 February 2013 - 09:45 AM in Wii U Hardware

If all other ports were done the way NFSMW U was done, every single ported title would be at this graphical level and all of the trolls would not be posting how the Wii U is weak and can't compete with event last gen yada yada. Now, there is much more room for graphical improvement beyond that when you take into consideration upcoming games using next gen engines and built from the ground up to take advantage of more modern console architecture. The reality is Wii U was getting ports from current gen games.

Wii U gets a lot of flack on it's performance / graphics currently simply because it's the 1st next gen console out on the market and thus developers didn't throw time, money and other resources to properly show vast improvements that could have been shown off. Only a select few thus far are doing Wii U justice like Criterion.

Once Nintendo releases 1st party titles and the other next gen consoles become ready to market is when we will see more noticeable improvement for the "next gen" games. Economies globally are tough, development and publishing teams have to weigh their resources, time management, and staff. The market will again enlarge with next gen gaming for Nintendo, Sony, and MS and that is when you will really see the step up across the board.

Well said.

#175436 The Wii U and Sega

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 February 2013 - 09:10 AM in Wii U Hardware

Nintendo should just do it already and buy Sega, they know they want to, and I think most of us can agree that it would be a good move...

Now there's a thought! I'd love to see Nintendo tighten up on Sega's habit of releasing sloppy Sonic games. I'd love to see Sega (exclusively) producing curveball titles for nintendo.

Sonic, The 2K titles, Virtua Fighter and others.

#175427 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 February 2013 - 08:46 AM in Wii U Hardware

The gap between the wii u and ps4 is basically a generational gap. The wii u is comparable to 360/PS3 overall and the ps4 is going to perform like a top end PC does today. It's not top end PC specification mind you but being a console it will be totally optimised for gaming and the hardware can be fully utilised as every ps4 will have the same hardware. Effectively making the performance comparable.

Interestingly Need For Speed Most Wanted's developers has said that the Wii U version will be using the PC version's textures. Suggest that when properly ported the Wii U is more powerful than we thought.

#175375 Sequels/franchise reboots you'd like to see

F-zero must be priority if the want to show of the Wii U's power.

Battalion Wars, Billy Hatcher and Time Splitters.

Errr we don't know that yet, so I wouldn't assume if I were you.

It's not a criticism. In terms of the Stats (which I know are not the end all/be all) it isn't as power as the PS4 and I don't think it a big leap to say that on paper the XBox 720 will be more powerful.

That's doesn't mean I saying the Wii U won't be close but that Nintendo have once again (righty IMO) not started a power war.

Some more good news then. Destiny would be nice as well.

#175369 Exactly how large is the power gap between the Wii U and the PS4?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 24 February 2013 - 04:44 AM in Wii U Hardware

Isn't the real question whether the gap in power is significant enough to prevent PS4/Xbox720 to Wii ports.

The Wii couldn't run full versions of COD, Fifa etc due to the power gap.

Whatever becomes the developer standard we have to hope the Wii U is capable of handling it. The Xbox 360 was the developers choice as the PS3 was a pain so much of that power was wasted.

If the cap is bridgeable and the Wii U has a installed consumer base by the time PS4 and Xbox720 are launched it'll be viable business model for 3rd party developers to port to it.

But most of these are just bad, lazy ports. These scores dont reflect the Wii U's performance levels.

True, it doesn't reflect that the reviewers had already played to games on the other systems and would have taken into account any lack of extras.

So you are saying the Wii U is not a proper next gen console? -_-

I'm saying it won't be as powerful as the PS4 or Xbox 720.

#174868 How do you think Nintendo could advertise better?

Posted by KarlMarx1818 on 23 February 2013 - 10:25 AM in Wii U Hardware

Go back to the clear, instructive style of the Wii Ads:

Scene 1) Teenage boy playing game in lounge, Dad and sister come in to watch football, he switches to Offscreen play they watch the match. Everyones happy. U PLAY ON

Scene 2) Family all play Nintendoland in family at the same time. Mum on controller is being chased by family brought together by mario chase. U PLAY TOGTHER

Scene3) Dad alone plays Zombi U (showing off mature games). U PLAY

Wii, U, All, Play. (or some such)

throw in celeb families and ideal lifestyle stuff and and funny sound at the start that signels it's a Wii U add and their off.
