I think they definitely should!
I can think of so many different features that could be used for the gamepad!!

I'm sure in time we'll hear of something hopefully!!

#160904 Connection problem!

Hey everyone!

I'm trying to hook my Wii U up to the Internet at school and it finds it just fine, but the problem is it only asks for a password... at my university to access our internet we need to enter our own personal username and then our own personal password.. is there a way to have my Wii U recognize that it needs a username and a password?

Thanks :)

You don't have the blue icon on the bottom-middle of this picture on your Wii U?

I do! But when I click it it says i need to do a system update, which I can't do without internet :P

It has to be the way the school setup there network.
To many kids and people for everyone to have a different password and user name.
I use to setup networks back in the day. They probably route everything through one compture which would make its home network type. No wep, or wpa, which would just be a number or letter combo.

You could try to use a cellphone and see what it comes up with.

Also is there more the one wifi listed when you search for it?

Well, everyone here has their own username to get into our internet! The username is our first and last name and then the password is whatever we make it.

And yes, it actually detects several university connections all under the same name. Others are just weaker.

And what do you mean by cellphone? My iPhone find our internet and lets me put in my username and password.

Also the internet's security here is WPA2-PSK (AES) which is supposedly compatible with the Wii U!

I don't think this is possible. The Wii U can only recgonize the router, so I think you're out of luck.

I could be wrong, maybe someone else could help your with your dilema.

Yeah, I'm not sure either.
Maybe there is something I can do with my manual set-up?

Regardless my friend got a Roku for Christmas and is having the same problem. It just can't recognize that it needs both the username and the password.

We'll see! Hah.

Do you get redirected to a sign in page when you use the internet browser?

I'm not seeing any kind of browser on my Wii U right now. I'm assuming it's because I don't have the internet hooked up (or I'm just an idiot that can't find it)

When I'm using my laptop at school, I sign into our internet with a username and password.

Hmm. I'd suggest that you use an ethernet cable, but I doubt you can. Did you try putting in your password in when you find your college's wifi when you search for it via the Wii U?

Xile6 is probably right though.

When I had my Wii here last year I tried using an ethernet cord, and it still only asked for a password.

and yeah when I'm prompted to enter a security key, it just says error and gives me a code.
my school may have some kind of overall passcode for things like this, I'll probably stop in at our IT on Tuesday if I don't figure something out by then.

I think he means using your phone's internet service in order to connect.

Oh okay! Hm...Possibly.

I just talked to someone and they said "You'll have to use a direct internet connect that is plugged into your computer and then plugged into the Wii U using a ethernet to usb adapter. So everytime you want internet on your Wii U just plug your ethernet cord into the computer and log onto the school's internet connection."

So I think tomorrow or Monday I'll try the ethernet thing again. When I tried it last year, I just plugged it into my school's wired connection not my actual computer. So I'll let you know how that goes!
