#173768 Playstation 4 officially announced, thoughts?

Posted by namkotje on 20 February 2013 - 06:00 PM in General Gaming

Wii U will have problems not with the games they showed... but with the games they will come in the proccess... I am not sure if wii U can run kilzone though.. at this scale.. it can but I believe in a lower scale (fps, textures) It was really good and massive, more massive than watchdogs.

Ofcourse it's more massive than Watchdogs... Killzone is exclusive (and full supported) for PS4.
Watchdogs on this presentation was played on a PC with almost the same specs, but It's also confirmed to be released for Xbox360/PS3 and Wii U.

Right now, I have the feeling that Nintendo is just stubborn and didn't listened enough the 3rd party devs.
Sony already got more 3rd party support then Nintendo for their PS4 and Nintendo should have upgraded the Wii U a little more before releasing it.

This show was really a teaser of what next gen games for consoles will look like. Nintendo didn't done that in their Wii U presentation.

Since D3 is coming to PS3/PS4, more reason it should come to the Wii U! :)

#173456 Need for speed Most wanted photos comparison with xbox360

Posted by namkotje on 20 February 2013 - 10:00 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Actually thinking about it that's how I'm hoping ports will end up when it comes to next gen games.

For example the Wii U becomes the 360 screenshot compared to PS4 and 720 versions being the Wii U screenshot. Because the 360 version isn't a pile of crap visually (if you didn't compare) it's just scaled down from the PC version, but it functions well and looks "nice" on an HD TV.

I hope I explained myself well...

I was thinking the same since the gap wouldn't be that big as with the Wii/PS360

#173400 Cloud Gaming (in general)

Posted by namkotje on 20 February 2013 - 05:37 AM in General Gaming

You can always try some full games for some limited time (10 to 30 mins) on:
(choose one close to your country)
www.onlive.com (US servers)
www.onlive.co.uk (UK severs)
www.onlive.be (BE servers)

Those from US can also use "Onlive desktop" on their Tablet:
http://desktop.onlive.com/

The only "must" is to have a nice internet speed with no caps. :P

A nice article about Sony and Cloud Gaming:

At a lovely price of $999.99

Isn't that the price the "steambox" will be? :P

Those specs will be 99% true:
http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-orbis-unveiled/

CPU:

  • Orbis contains eight Jaguar cores at 1.6 Ghz, arranged as two “clusters”
  • Each cluster contains 4 cores and a shared 2MB L2 cache
  • 256-bit SIMD operations, 128-bit SIMD ALU
  • SSE up to SSE4, as well as Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX)
  • One hardware thread per core
  • Decodes, executes and retires at up to two intructions/cycle
  • Out of order execution
  • Per-core dedicated L1-I and L1-D cache (32Kb each)
  • Two pipes per core yield 12,8 GFlops performance
  • 102.4 GFlops for system

GPU:
  • GPU is based on AMD’s “R10XX” (Southern Islands) architecture
  • DirectX 11.1+ feature set
  • Liverpool is an enhanced version of the architecture
  • 18 Compute Units (CUs)
  • Hardware balanced at 14 CUs
  • Shared 512 KB of read/write L2 cache
  • 800 Mhz
  • 1.843 Tflops, 922 GigaOps/s
  • Dual shader engines
  • 18 texture units
  • 8 Render backends

Memory:
  • 4 GB unified system memory, 176 GB/s
  • 3.5 available to games (estimate)

Storage:

- High speed Blu-ray drive
  • single layer (25 GB) or dual layer (50 GB) discs
  • Partial constant angular velocity (PCAV)
  • Outer half of disc 6x (27 MB/s)
  • Inner half varies, 3.3x to 6x

- Internal mass storage
  • One SKU at launch: 500 GB HDD
  • There may also be a Flash drive SKU in the future

Networking:
  • 1 Gb/s Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WIFI, and Bluetooth

Peripherals:
  • Evolved Dualshock controller
  • Dual Camera
  • Move controller

Extra:
  • Audio Processor (ACP)
  • Video encode and decode (VCE/UVD) units
  • Display ScanOut Engine (DCE)
  • Zlib Decompression Hardware

UPDATE: some people is confused about the GPU, here you have more info about it:

Each CU contains dedicated:

- ALU (32 64-bit operations per cycle)

- Texture Unit

- L1 data cache

- Local data share (LDS)

About 14 + 4 balance:

- 4 additional CUs (410 Gflops) “extra” ALU as resource for compute

- Minor boost if used for rendering

Dual Shader Engines:

- 1.6 billion triangles/s, 1.6 billion vertices/s

18 Texture units

- 56 billion bilinear texture reads/s

- Can utilize full memory bandwith

8 Render backends:

- 32 color ops/cycle

- 128 depth ops/cycle

- Playstation Cloud service.
- new PSvita model with 4G feature to use the cloud service.

I'm still "not sure" about the PS4. But they will prolly show it + some upcoming exclusives.

#173083 30% Off all Ubisoft games on eShop (Wii U)

Is this also in Europe? or only US?

#173082 Cloud Gaming (in general)

Posted by namkotje on 19 February 2013 - 12:56 PM in General Gaming

What do you guys think about Cloud Gaming?

Onlive (pioneer of cloud gaming) tried it, got problems, went bankrupt and was bought by a new company.
Sony will announce tomorrow their cloud gaming service (Gaikai, a company they bought some months ago)

And "Cloud Gaming is not the future" in Iwata's eyes.

What do you guys think? :)

I have a simular project coming up. Would you like to be involved?

I'm probably not good enough for such things and probably don't have the time for it. But thanks for asking! :)

Ps: are you Dutch?

Yes I am!

*update*
I made a new one (see OP). :)

#172595 How much would it cost Nintendo

Posted by namkotje on 18 February 2013 - 01:46 AM in General Gaming

Interesting on the video documentary just released, bungie developers are txting each other on their iPhones to join each other in a game. And one of the developers types:

" my body is ready."

...

Even that logo!:

#172400 Konami job listing confirms MGS: Ground Zeroes coming to PC/PS4/720

Remember this: http://www.gameranx....d-soul-hackers/

There is still a chance it will come for the Wii U. However I'm not sure if the Wii U is high-end next gen (or just next gen) in their eyes. :)

#172020 WSJ: PS4 will stream PS3 games

Well, I didn't expect this.

Pretty much what I expected they day Sony bought Gaikai. :)

And with a 4G model of PSVita, it could also use that service.

#171851 Nintendo already discussing new Consoles

Posted by namkotje on 15 February 2013 - 03:55 PM in Wii U Hardware

I like the Wii U and I hope they won't change the controller for the next console. That second screen is a must now imo. :)

Did you use Aftereffects for this or some other tool.

I used Photoshop (not much), After Effects and Final Cut Pro. :)

That was a really good job on the video. While I DO believe that the Wii U is reasonably good fit for an Action RPG like Diablo. I just can't get past how horrible they made the game. I just can't stand to play it. Most fans, are not playing it anymore. It would not sell very well if at all on another system. The sales would not be very good. Not to mention that, anyone that would play D3, or care to, already has it for PC. there is no reason to buy it twice.

I just don't see this happening.

Hehe, you're right about Diablo 3!

Ofcourse, ARPGs are just needed on the Wii U imo. Can't wait to see one announced on the Wii U. :)

Hey,

I'm new on this forum, but I wanted to show you a "trailer" I made:

I made this because I think action role-playing games (not only D3, but also T2, etc...) would perfectly fit for the Wii U. Imo, It's pretty strange there are no games of this genre announced yet. :)

Feel free to watch!

Cheers,
Namkotje

Update:
I made another one:

I think many of you played Beyond Good and Evil on the gamecube (or another platform). I would love to see the sequel on the Wii U!

Update 2:

I was pretty bored today... so I made another one:
