#315561 Splat Fortress (TF2 mod) - Gameplay Reveal

Posted by CUD on 29 June 2015 - 05:34 PM in General Gaming

Looked good until I saw the ink sprays in large squares.

Yeah, definitely lacks the looks of Splatoon in that regard but at this stage it works. Maybe they'll find a way to improve the way the ink is textured but for now this seems like the easiest way to approach it in source engine.

As a fan of TF2 this caught my attention. I haven't yet played Splatoon myself so I can't compare that well but it seems like an interesting mod for sure. Might be a bit of fun and with a bit more polish and attention it could get enough players to have some regular servers set up with this mod.

If you're interested, check out some of that YouTuber's other videos for some other TF2 mods such as SSB and an adventure mode for TF2 that they're working on.

#315525 Positive reaction by 3rd parties to NX

Posted by CUD on 28 June 2015 - 05:02 PM in General Gaming

if nintendo can do right with the nx and have powerful hardware for competing with the ps5 and nextbox they would have "everything" killer first party, and all the 3rd parties to fill in the gaps. Nintendo has the games to be the number one console, but they always find a way to screw it up

They're going to be releasing their next system sooner than MS and Sony though so I don't see them really competing in terms of hardware.

I can't see myself dating a Wii U game. They're just not my type.

#315209 Splatoon disc content leak?

Posted by CUD on 22 June 2015 - 04:56 PM in Wii U Games and Software

With an unlock system you still have the problem with the game being put down and forgotten, as it has absolutely no way of reminding you to try out new stuff when you put the game down. With Nintendo's system The game sites mention it and your friends (if any, depending) will want to try out the new stages and weapons together. You don't get that momemtum.

I see your point. Still not my preferable approach but I can see why it could work. I would say that it would be better to have unlocks though, if the players are enjoying the game enough they'll keep playing until they unlock all the content anyway whereas slowly giving them more content over time may make people lose interest if they've played with all the current content and there's nothing to unlock so they may be bored with the game by the time they hear an announcement of more content and not bothered to play some more. Some seem to enjoy the approach they have though, I just wouldn't say it's the best approach.

#315171 Splatoon disc content leak?

Posted by CUD on 22 June 2015 - 06:16 AM in Wii U Games and Software

Honestly... especially with a new IP.. if you have 33 weapons to choose from I know for sure I wouldn't take the time to test each and every one. I'd look and see what others were using and pretty much play with that. A lot of choices like that is not always a good thing up front cause it can easily be ignored. By getting a new map, weapon etc. here and there, it gives the player base an opportunity to at least give the new content a try and see if it's for them.

It also allows the devs to see how it works and plays out in the game. Obviously they didn't have enough time to play test everything to their liking so this is a way they can better track what may need tweaking of fixing down the line.

Oh, easy. If Nintendo unlocked it all at launch many people will play the game once and put it down and forget about it. But this way players will be encouraged to play the game every week or so to see what's new or changed, and at the same time get more drawn into the game and liking it.

That's why devs implement unlock systems. The more you play the more you unlock. There are a variety of ways that can be implemented and I would say they're much better off doing that than just giving players content content over time without having to earn it.

What about after they've released all the content? People that then choose to buy the game just get all the content from the get go. Had they implemented a proper unlock system that could be avoided.

It just seems lazy to me, if it were planned better they could have handled this a lot better than just periodically giving players more content. Maps I can see how spreading out the release of each could help maintain the playerbase but with weapons and other content I don't agree with the approach.

#315170 Metroid Prime Federation Force 3DS

Posted by CUD on 22 June 2015 - 06:04 AM in General Gaming

It's only insulting if you are offended by it. To me, it makes some sense. Their reveal of Federation Force in the digital event was not done well.  It was confusing, frustrating etc. But, after having watched a couple of days of footage and listening to the dev talk about the game I began to understand the approach and started to enjoy and see the game for what it is. Either way, everyone cannot be pleased.

Their reveal was fine, what the game is was made perfectly clear. The problem isn't that people don't understand what the game is it's that they don't care about some mediocre low budget Metroid spin off when we've been waiting for an actual Metroid title for so long.

#315163 Splatoon disc content leak?

Posted by CUD on 22 June 2015 - 04:13 AM in Wii U Games and Software

We want users to enjoy each and every single piece of content we've prepared, so rather than provide a lot at once, we're going to be adding them a little at a time.

That seems more like a convenient excuse. It may be their actual approach but if it is I can't say I agree with it.

Second, is that while we've paid a lot of attention to the balancing the game, the flip-side of this is that we feel the game needs weapons with a lot of variety as well as stages with complex layouts to really expand the gameplay.

The problem there is that these can sometimes disrupt the overall balance of the game.

This seems like the more honest explanation of why the content is held back, it's not finished yet. No need to give us some excuse of "we're going to give players bits of content at a time so they can enjoy it more", what does that even mean? How wouldn't they enjoy all the content if you gave it all to players in the first place?

#315162 Metroid Prime Federation Force 3DS

Posted by CUD on 22 June 2015 - 04:04 AM in General Gaming

So when we put [Digital Events] together, we do have a strong sense for what are the games that are going to do exceptionally well. We also learn along the way what things maybe aren’t as clear as we want them to be, and that’s where we put added focus during the show.

And so, for example, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, we knew it was a tough concept, right? It’s a game taking place in the Metroid Prime environment, but there’s no Samus, and the gameplay is different, so how do we communicate that? And we tried hard to do that in the Digital Event. We’re hearing that maybe it wasn’t as clearly communicated, so we’re spending time on it during Treehouse Live.

Again, that’s one of the benefits we have in just the overall approach we take for E3. It’s just not a press conference then come play our games. We look for a range of opportunities to help people understand what’s magical about our content, because we know once we get a controller in your hands, you’re going to have a wonderful experience. And so, we’re doing that now, and what’s interesting is that I’m now hearing that the reaction to Blast Ball has been quite fabulous. So, things are good.

— Reggie Fils-Aime

Source

Now this is just insulting. Reggie thinks we're too stupid to understand the game concepts when they're very simple games to begin with. He's the one that's missing the point of the outrage. It sure as hell isn't that we don't understand the games, it's that after all this time waiting for a Metroid game this is the garbage we're given. I'm not sure if he's being this dense on purpose or he really doesn't realise why people are angry at Nintendo, whatever the case this is just plain insulting.

#315157 Splatoon disc content leak?

Posted by CUD on 21 June 2015 - 10:31 PM in Wii U Games and Software

Except we can actually infer based off the rest of the added content to Splatoon.

So basically because there's been some free content therefore all of it will be free? Once again, that may be the case but since they haven't made an announcement regarding this content we can only make assumptions, while it's fine to hope this will be free I don't see how people can say that it will be with such certainty as if it's somehow guaranteed.

Wow your avatar is really your brain. A pile of crap. You really can't read.

Not sure why I bother with you since you're such a softshell lizard. Let's just put ad hominem attacks aside and discuss this.

I can't read? It's not like your post was written so well that it could be misinterpreted... Oh wait..

Made  Connor into a jerk and why the name Connor. To them he looked like a Spaniard to them. Well let's see how do people from Spain look.

You're talking about Ubisoft making Connor a jerk then suddenly 'them' starts referring to in game characters so don't blame me for misinterpreting that.

Wow your avatar is really your brain. A pile of crap. You really can't read.

In the damn game he is GIVEN the name Connor because they said IN GAME he looks like a Spainiard. Ubi soft wrote this into the game. The game itself and Ubisoft are R-tards. It would not make much sense for anyone in game to NOT know what a Spaniard looked like as many of them WERE FROM THERE.

I am yet to play the game but it says in the wiki the follwoing:

There, in order for Ratonhnhaké:ton to more easily move through colonial circles, Achilles suggested that he take on the name "Connor" after his late son, Connor Davenport, who had died of disease several years earlier.

Maybe there's some other reasoning mentioned in game but it's not mentioned in the wiki at all.

Anywho, this is getting off topic. Why is it that you highlighted the part of my previous post regarding Horizon Zero Dawn not being historically accurate?

Also to put this simply. What happens when you are in the sun a while. Your skin tans. What if you are out there hundreds of years in a country that gets lots of sun. Yes the skin get perm tanned and your hair gene gets dark. So why have white people who should be tan doing EXACT Native tribe things. They are literally taking stuff from tribes. Many of us have houses and such so we stay out of the harsh sun most the time.

I can't say, this is fiction. They can justify it however way they want. I think they'd get far more complaints had they tried for an accurate native american approach and got something wrong, that would seem more offensive than making a fictional race in a fictional world where our rules don't necessarily apply.

Learn to read and reading comprehension.

So it is supposed to be historical? What specifically should I be reading regarding what you highlighted in my post?

Also:

I am whiter than sour cream. I can't take offense personally even with Cherokee blood in my family history but it was a ways back but being involved with some of the cultures and people there are many things people are unaware how insulting they can be. I mean look at Assasins Creed III. They did almost no homework on Native tribes. Made  Connor into a jerk and why the name Connor. To them he looked like a Spaniard to them. Well let's see how do people from Spain look.

I guess Ubi thinks this

Looks just like this

What...

Have you even seen a picture of him before? His name is Ratonhnhaké:ton, he's just more commonly known as his adopted name 'Connor'.

Game looks pretty good from first impressions, look forward to seeing some more. Shame it's PS4 exclusive though.

They're not depicting native Americans; it's a futuristic society that's regressed to wearing animal skins in a manner similar to native Americans. It's fantasy, not a commentary on Native American culture.

I agree. This isn't supposed to be historical, they can make the characters whatever race they want and make their culture however they want, that's how fiction works. She's fighting a giant robot, don't try and tell me how this is offensive because she's white when it's not even intended to be realistic in its settings.

#315144 Splatoon disc content leak?

Of course it's free, they're just releasing the rest of the finished product that was already on the disc. Content that should have been available day of release.

Not sure how you can say that with such certainty, you may be right but at this point we just don't know.

People in this thread are saying this is free but did it just leaked, did Nintendo say that all future DLC is free or something?

#315112 Uncharted 4 looks amazing

Posted by CUD on 21 June 2015 - 12:20 AM in General Gaming

looks fun, however i don't think there is anything special about this series really

I've only played the Vita Uncharted game but it pretty much confirmed what I felt towards the series. It just reeked of generic action movie vibe and it really just felt like they wanted to make a movie more than they did a game. The gameplay was so plain, just shoot these guys then go here, cutscene, shoot these guys, climb this wall, another cutscene... Not sure why I played through the whole thing to be honest, I was really pushing myself just to give it a chance but I can't say I enjoyed it overall.

Some people do like cinematic games but I am yet to see why Uncharted is such a critically acclaimed series, it just seems so overrated.

#315103 ZOMBI - Ubisoft

Posted by CUD on 20 June 2015 - 08:28 PM in General Gaming

Instead of a touch screen you press B on 360 and it doesn't work that great. Been a while since I tried it but it was less of a game with no Gamepad.

B to do what? It's been a while since I played it on Vita so I can't really recall, I think there were some Murfy sections but I definitely didn't enjoy them as much a the regular platforming levels.

#315101 ZOMBI - Ubisoft

Posted by CUD on 20 June 2015 - 06:59 PM in General Gaming

They will just gimp it like they did Rayman Legends on other consoles. It's Ubisoft c'mon. French EA

Didn't they just not include the Murfy sections? Those seemed pretty lame anyway.

#315089 ZOMBI - Ubisoft

Posted by CUD on 20 June 2015 - 02:53 PM in General Gaming

What made zombiu great was the cool use of the gamepad. It won't be the same without it.

Definitely wont be the same but I'm not sure that it would be worse, there's definitely ways to implement those features on the one screen.

#315077 So Microsoft is merging Windows and Devices divisions. What does that mean?

Posted by CUD on 20 June 2015 - 06:18 AM in General Gaming

The more XBO games on PC the more pointless it is to have an Xbox

Exactly. :)

I'm not sure that there's really enough exclusives to justify a purchase as it is so I don't think it really takes much for people to buy these consoles these days. Some people think a PC is too hard to build or too expensive to buy so they buy a console instead. If MS can sell their consoles well and bring their big name titles to PC, which are bound to sell well, then it's a win-win but it does run the risk of pushing Xbox One owners (or potential owners) to PC gaming instead.

All I know is that Gears and Halo on PC is fine with me.

#315057 So Microsoft is merging Windows and Devices divisions. What does that mean?

Posted by CUD on 19 June 2015 - 03:58 PM in General Gaming

Hopefully it means more Xbox games coming to PC. I like the recent news that Gears Ultimate Edition is coming to PC as well as Killer Instinct, now only if we can get the rest of the Gears games too and the Halo series.

So here's Reggie damage controlling the entire event and denying that Iwata was apologizing for the whole disaster. Just your typical PR bs.

'We hear you and we are committed to continuing to meet your expectations'

At least Reggie acknowledges that our expectations of Nintendo are low.

Posted by CUD on 17 June 2015 - 05:27 PM in General Gaming

Nope. People are unfair to it. It's a really good game. Only 2 things I would have changed. A better art style and some good VA.

Every second of that game relies on people knowing EVERYTHING in Metroid Universe. Granted maybe unfair for most gamers but if you actually truly know everything in that universe the game comes together rather well.

I don't think that's the problem with the game at all. I'm not sure what you're referring to exactly, the story presented itself fine on its own. I don't know all the Metroid lore and I didn't feel like that affected my enjoyment of the game at all, is there a part you're referring to specifically? The main issues I had with the game were its design not the story or art style, voice acting could have been better though.
