#236867 The Wii U can run Unity 4

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 03 August 2013 - 01:04 PM in Wii U Hardware

The wii u now officially supports Direct x11 features. It is Over.

http://www.drivingit...showtopic=63114

WIP WiiU Multithreaded shadow rendering. DX11 support for mult-threaded shadow rendering (via -DX11MT).

Again.

IT.
IS.
OVER.

Individuals who know who they are may pick up their crow from the buffet table.

crow.gif

I suggest relying on facts rather than hysterical hearsay next time for better results.

... its still a work in progress, so its not accually in but it  gives it a great chance (wip = work in progress) but what is interesting is they are calling it (the shadowing) a multitreaded task even if they dont have it in fully yet. I find it hard to believe that the CPU is doing the rendering of shadows...

#236831 Wii U Has Sold 1 Million Units in Japan

I think last gen may end up being like Windows Xp to many gamers....

#236828 Wii U Has Sold 1 Million Units in Japan

to beat the ps3 in japan  in terms of sales in both consoles lifetimes, it must get around 10 million units. A very easy to reach goal, which i see happening easily.

the problem is the rest of the world.

people seem to think that wii u gamepad == vita/PS4 remote play

... remote play only serves the single function of off tv play, and it will not be for every game, any game that uses  extra hardware such as the PS eye will not work.

#236825 The Wii U can run Unity 4

It's the fact that since the Wii was under powered, every jerkoff top tier developer assume it would drop faster than the PS Vita.

Sega is releasing Castle of Illusion for every console EXCEPT the Wii U (as far as we know), which sucks.

let me let you in on a secret, most modern devs don't know rainbow about how strong a console is. There are a few, but generally those guys don't go around talking about it, though i know a few that do and their  reasoning is because they are A jerks who can get away with being an unknown on the internet and "leaking" information (insert want to watch the world burn meme) or 2 have prior bias. Otherwise those who  develop the engines like to keep the comments they make  closer to what their company wants them to think (they make the bigger paychecks, and usually want to keep it that way)

though some do slip though the cracks.

But most of the statements about the wii u being extremely weak coming from devs really only happened  either early in (THQ's metro dev) and during the ea fiasco. There has only been praise or silence for the wii u now (not including talking about sales)

the only people now calling the wii u weak is those who may still have grudges (none i have seen recently) the media and  the gaming public such as gaf.

#236589 Shin'en Explains Wii U EDRAM Usage

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 02 August 2013 - 08:28 AM in Wii U Hardware

question though couldnt it be 176 "BUT" a newer 176 than performs better than 176 should perform... does that make sense?

it would have to perform more than 2 times  more efficiently, not accounting for  misusing, optimization and doing a dirty port. Which could make it have to be 3-6 times more efficient.

somehow i highly doubt it.

#236542 Shin'en Explains Wii U EDRAM Usage

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 01 August 2013 - 11:23 PM in Wii U Hardware

Well, first, as I explained earlier, flops simply dont transfer linearly across architectures.

So even if it WAS 176 gflops, its not the same amount of power Xenon gets with 176 gflops.

Second. Simply no.

He dismisses Jim from Chipworks, who said he cant recognize the design coming from any other amd chips hes worked with (when asked about the 7xx base), because he made up a story where Jim is unable to identify the brand of the gpu (despite everybody already knowing the brand) Because it wasnt on the gpu, but the heatspreader.

Jim doesnt NEED to see a brand to recognize where a gpu came from. He didnt aquire his position of employment by being an incompetent buffoon, hes not a game journalist.

You simply cant tell that kind of detail by eye balling block shapes. Unless you can see the makeup of the arithmetic units inside, or have a chart, because you can give near any shape block of logic any purpose. You can even have the same exact logic block given a completely different shape simply to maximize the use of die area.

Identifying what logic needs to be by ram pools is a good idea in theory, but ultimately rather worthless in real world applications, as these custom layouts are often done by computers in parts to maximize effecient use of die space, and these are often simply put beyond a humans ability to follow. The reason They can be identified at all by their shapes from successor to successor (typically just die shrinks with minor changes( is merely because its cost effective to reuse a practical design.... In custom hardware it may no longer be practical to mantain the conventional layout, as there may be unconventional changes compared to your conventional designs. Such as a massive block of embedded ram.

And these guys love talking about flops, but they never specify what kind of flop, which is really important. This guy keeps talking about the number of 64 bit registers, but a flop is a 32 bit operation. A double precision flop is 64 bit. and Nintendo is known for wanting custom wierd things like cramming a pair of single precision flops into a single 64 bit register.

Observing him, he just doesnt seem to be trying to find an answer by looking at facts.

he seems to be trying to find facts he can use to support an answer he already came up with.

I dont know what exact number of flops the system is packing. It COULD be 176 Gflops. But, Id be willing to bet if it did, it wouldnt be for any of his reasoning. I feel like its comparable to someone telling us the sky is blue.... Because its made of paint. Except via a much smarter avenue of discourse

My team has not been issued a Wii U, our higher ups are kinda... unwilling currently (im not going to say more, but it would be bad publicity)

but I agree, I believe that starting in he wanted to just put out real information but along the way he got blinded by how the media, lesser game devs and those who just hate nintendo and the system have been acting. From me and my teams tech experts perspective, its possible to range everything in the wii u from the high 200's  all the way up to the late 600's. The possibility of it being lower to them is  laughable, when they and I have looked at the ports and how badly optimized most of them are for the system there would be near 0 possibility of playability if it was just a mere 176 gflop system.

But we honestly can only guess since anything can be hidden within that die, new technology is a distinct possibility. Not that anyone will want to admit that  Nintendo had put any of their own money into something new from AMD or that it could hang with the big boys with a bit of scaling...  because right now, no one cares about truth or even possibility the world hates what the Wii U is and they dont know why.

#236333 Hardcore Wii U mod

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 01 August 2013 - 04:23 AM in Wii U Hardware

You would still need a USB 3.0 controller. Changing the port would only make it blue.

and it would lack the drivers, and it would  lack most the connectors...... and it would lack the chips that help provide power, and it would not have enough power directed to it.

fun

#235827 ASDA suspends Wii U stock

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 29 July 2013 - 01:22 PM in Wii U Games and Software

To be fair he does not just hate Nintendo. He likes them then hates them then likes then hates. Those opinions he has almost every week to a deadline on news sites to get views. Asda + devs + other stuff I agree but Patcher has been doing this for years, If anyone takes him seriously then I hope they don't buy a Wiiu as those people are too dumb for me to want to play them online.

Not calling you dumb Big Bowsy or insulting you, only Patcher and people who believe his tire act.

cant be wrong if you say everything.

#235771 Do you think we'll get another Pikachu clone in X and Y?

just going to say... it will not be the only "Clone"

early flying pokemon? early normal rodent?

makes sense because they all have subspecies.

#235705 Phil Fish cancels FEZ 2 because of twitter upset

When you are almost always negative towards anyone with any kind of critisim, and then you take it a step further by insulting the person by asking them to die. You better expect some backlash.

He lacks  very basics in tact! He went so far as to embarrass not only himself, but all of japan by telling a Japanese developer, who was just innocently acting a question, Japanese games "Just suck". Some of the most beloved games in the world. Some indy guy, who made only two games , suddenly thinks he  is good enough to call out a whole nation as bad?

he may have not deserved it, but he was defiantly going to get it with how he not only  stirred up trouble but confronted it.   There will be  small fires and he will end up just  spraying them with gunpowder only to have it blow up in his face. Of course it will get out of hand like that.

#235613 The Wii U can run Unity 4

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 28 July 2013 - 04:37 PM in Wii U Hardware

The WiiU is underpowered compared to what, the X360/PS3 or X1/PS4 ?

This is the actual issue that needs to be sorted out, why did Nintendo make the WiiU so hard to develop for, they knew Sony had problems when the PS3 was launched.

Actually its not hard to develop for, hell its even cheap.

You just need to take the right steps to get it working right. Which in all is not a big deal.

#235484 The Wii U can run Unity 4

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 28 July 2013 - 01:55 AM in Wii U Hardware

Question for you. im on Neogaf and people are questioning why Wii U games havent been using AA up to this point. (obviously as everyone thinks negative in Wii U tech terms) they are saying it doesnt have enough ROPs... whats your take... and why hasnt it seem like Nintendo is pushing those type of features on their games?

Who honestly knows. Could be they do not see a reason to put it in as they think the IQ is high enough.

#235472 3rd Party Wii U Game Pad?

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 11:35 PM in Wii U Hardware

well I'm not into driving games but I'm sure those that are wish the triggers were analog and that they would work.

the os still only accepts  digital triggers, plus who would code for a 3rd party device that almost no one will have?

#235468 3rd Party Wii U Game Pad?

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 10:05 PM in Wii U Hardware

I think perhaps the only imrovements that could be made are analog shoulder triggers, battery life, and brighter screen.

what good would analog triggers be, since it only accepts digital trigger input

#235169 Got a Nice 32Gig Wii-U off somebody and already developed an issue :-(

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 03:14 AM in Wii U Hardware

I'm kinda surprised they were so picky.  I know when my 3DS scratched itself (due to the known defect) they didn't ask for a receipt as it was within 12 months of launch, but then that was Nintendo UK.

it seems to always depend on the oporator. Sometimes you can use the online system to send in a repair which does not use a proof system just the System ID

#235168 YEAH SO WHATS THE TRICK AND WHAT OTHER TRICKS DOES WII U HAVE

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 03:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

i truly dont think so... I was thinking today and it ticked me off even more. EA on launch released fifa, madden, ME3, and then the need for speed most wanted U. We know Crytek said they had a running finished version of Crysis 3 ready for launch. those crappy ports why didnt EA release Crysis 3 for Wii U. Crytek has gone on record about the Wii U hardware and i have no doubt the Wii U version probably out performed ps360 version i doubt Crytek would have wanted to release it if it was a crap fast port. but EA not wanting to release that game but a crap madden and fifa that didnt have features that ps360 had showed exactly how they feel.

because they intended to back-stab from the start.

#235156 YEAH SO WHATS THE TRICK AND WHAT OTHER TRICKS DOES WII U HAVE

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 01:12 AM in Wii U Hardware

doesnt matter what do people expect gamers to believe. if a good 75 percent of big 3rd parties arent bringing their games to Wii U and all they can say is game engine cant  be ran are difficult or sacrificies have to be made to ge the game to run on Wii U... what do people expect the general perceptin of Wii U to be?

Obviously the stigma would still be there, but even if they DID put out games people would still think the same thing.

#235154 Are Devs "Lazy" Or Is The Wii U Difficult To Develop For?

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 01:09 AM in Wii U Hardware

Well it is what it is and its sad. My problem is "NO ONE" is standing up for nintendo or this console I mean big third party unless you calling platnium that. Everyone is on the fence and their comments make it seem like they arew forced to support it just in case things turn into a 3ds situation and Wii U catches fire and sells like hot cakes.

people see nintendo published and then instantly  think they are lying.

#235152 YEAH SO WHATS THE TRICK AND WHAT OTHER TRICKS DOES WII U HAVE

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 01:01 AM in Wii U Hardware

again doesnt mean anything if "BIG"  3rd parties dont know about or refuse to use these features and make multiplats better than ps360 versions. the majority will still see Wii U as barely a step up from last gen.... I know and have faith Nintendo will show amazing visuals for their titles but what about 3rd parties?

third parties are jerks and get no cake

#235149 YEAH SO WHATS THE TRICK AND WHAT OTHER TRICKS DOES WII U HAVE

OBVIOUSLY i would look that word up before INCURECTLY USING IT

the games 300mb yes COMPRESSED  oh the irony the irony he tried to look smart and custard pied his face OBVIOUSLY

yes OBVIOUSLY ITS A COMPRESSED DIGITAL GAME is it not

nano assult is what a 100mb game or whatever IS THAT IN TOTAL OR COMPRESSED HAVE A GUESS :D

ARE YOU ALSO IMPLYING THEY LIED

no.... i am implying they are saving quite a bit more than 50%, i even said that.

nano assault uses procedurally generated textures so the size of the game while running is much larger than that of it as a file.

Toki Tori 2 uses  premade textures images.

#235145 Wii U 3rd party ports.....

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 12:29 AM in Wii U Hardware

I find it hard to believe that they were using 2 cores  when they did not get all 3 running. Its the same to code to make 3 run as it is to make 2 (minus the fact you have to tell it to run each core) unless they only told it to run  the first and second... seems  insane to me.

#235143 YEAH SO WHATS THE TRICK AND WHAT OTHER TRICKS DOES WII U HAVE

Posted by Cloud Windfoot Omega on 27 July 2013 - 12:25 AM in Wii U Hardware

we do not know exactly how much the same is  using for textures, but i am a little skeptical to think they are using 300megs per level in it. Especially since the game itself is 300 megs

so obviously  its saving more than 50% the texture size.
