Considering the fact that I am buying "The Last of Us" for the PS4 even though I already have it on the PS3. I'm gonna go ahead and say "yes" I am a total fan of remastered versions of older games especially Pokemon.
Don't forget that maybe a lot of younger people haven't experienced the greatness of games that we have and I think it's a great chance for newcomers to experience it and for veterans to revisit classics and embrace the nostalgia.

If Nintendo is going to build a console more powerful than the Xbox One and PS4 they should time their release to coincide with the Microsoft and Sony's next console launch so that people actually see it is as a competitor. If they release it before the next generation of consoles the competition is just going to release more powerful consoles and Nintendo will look like the third wheel again.
Even if Nintendo has no intention of competing with Microsoft or Sony they will indirectly compete with them anyway. There are millions of gamers out there who can only afford a single console. Whether Nintendo likes it or not someone out there will decide not to purchase a Nintendo console because it doesn't have features another console does. I think it's in Nintendo's best interest to compete with Microsoft and Sony.
The PS4 is already profitable for Sony. In fact Sony's Game and Network division is seeing an increase in sales. So I don't see Sony stepping down or selling off PlayStation. If anything Sony will just sell off some other divisions like they did with VAIO laptops.
As far as the Xbox One goes. It's actually not a loss. It's still profitable but it's not nearly as successful as the PS4. It will take some time but Xbox One is going to be just fine with the release of big hits like Halo 5 and Gears of War.
I don't see Microsoft or Sony's console entertainment divisions dying anytime soon. Sony has a good thing going with the PS4 right now they have a user-base in the millions with more using PlayStation Now and PlayStation TV. Microsoft is planning to use Windows 10 to merge pretty much everything and Xbox One is going to come along for the ride with that or their next console will. As a gamer I hope none of the big three fail. It would be terrible for the gaming industry and gamers in general.
I am aware that Nintendo doesn't "need" 3rd party support but it's time Nintendo breaks that barrier. Why should I buy the next Nintendo console? I know it's going to have superior hardware but I can't imagine anything looking that much better than the current lineup of Nintendo games on the Wii U.
I would be happy if Nintendo just continues to release the same games on the Wii U and their newest console at the same time. I really am not that concerned about fancy graphics on my Nintendo games they already look amazing on the Wii U. I hope Nintendo doesn't force me to buy something else just for a few extra pixels and frames per second. I would only be willing buy Nintendo's next console if they release something that looks like even better than the Zelda Wii U tech demo at E3 and it would be nice if Nintendo made it backwards compatible with Wii U games.
I didn't imply that voice chat on the Wii U is only filled with kids. I actually want there to be voice chat enabled with everyone on Nintendo consoles instead of the "friends" only policy.
I'm sitting with at 15 Wii U games right now and I can't remember the last time I used my GamePad. That's what I call a gimmick. I was completely hyped about the GamePad and disappointed with it because most of my games have no real use for it. Maybe with the new Zelda and Xenoblade I'll pick up my GamePad again but until then I'll just stick with my pro controller.
I'm just saying maybe Nintendo could try to invest into a lot better hardware instead of a neat feature like the GamePad next time.
tl;dr
I want the next Nintendo home console to have far superior graphics, backwards compatibility with Wii U games, a regular controller, online with no voice chat restrictions, integrated
Twitch streaming, a Pokemon MMORPG or something like that would really show off the awesome new hardware and 3rd party support. Knowing me I'll probably buy whatever they make because I can't buy Nintendo games on Steam QQ but I still like to wish for stuff.

If they can make all of their games on the Wii U and on their next console simultaneously kind of like how we are seeing something similar with Xbox 360/Xbox One and PS3/PS4 games. I'd rather just stick with my Wii U. If Mario gets any better graphics than this it's just going to look weird.

I seriously doubt the next Nintendo console will be more powerful than the PS4 or Xbox One because there is no point. Unless Nintendo brings in more 3rd party support the more powerful hardware in their next console is going to be pointless. You have to keep in mind that Nintendo's art-style won't benefit from much better hardware at this point... I think it's time Nintendo at least sells some games on Steam, but that's just me.

That's silly. Of course it will be. PS4 and XBO are not that powerful to begin with and Wii U is not that far behind at all. They were mid range PC's when they wee released and that status is quickly falling. This isn't Wii vs HD twins again not by a long shot.
As for what would be the point well by your logic Wii U should have stay te same power as Wii. Because yeah what's the point in progress yeah? Games on steam. Why? Nintendo makes profit doing what they do. MS can't say that. Sony can't. MS losing biliions on the XB brand. SOny just posted it's 6th annual loss in 7 years and combined both companies fired 34,000 people last 3 years. PS4 and XBO have diminishing returns. Sony and MS are closer to not making consoles anymore by a good 10000 miles than Nintendo.
It would cost Nintendo a lot of money to invest into a console that is more powerful than the Xbox One and PS4 and it just seems pointless in my opinion.
Who is Nintendo's target audience with this new console? Hardcore console gamers? Because those people already have an Xbox One or a PS4 and they most likely aren't going to buy a brand new Nintendo console for "better graphics" and abandon their already large collection of games, friends, and achievements/trophies. Most of the exclusive Nintendo games on the Wii U really wouldn't look that much better on a more powerful console. Seriously we are talking about Nintendo games here. I can't imagine Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros looking that much better on something more powerful like an Xbox One or PS4 let alone anything more powerful than that. They already look great and Nintendo has always been more about gameplay. Most people who buy Nintendo games could care less about anti-aliasing, resolution, FPS, vertical sync, etc. I would argue most average console gamers don't know anything about that stuff either.
The PS4 has been a complete success selling over 10 million units world-wide in an incredibly short amount of time so that has nothing to do with Sony's losses in fact their failing movie, music and laptop division is to blame for that.
Microsoft is one of the world's most valuable companies so I really don't think losing some money on a single gaming console investment is going to put a dent on their influence in the world.
What is Nintendo going to advertise this console as? Will it have 3rd party support? Will the online have voice chat instead of being a playground for kids? Most companies seem reluctant to support Nintendo because most people who buy Nintendo consoles only buy Nintendo games. It's kind of a double-edged sword. You have Nintendo making a console purely for their games so people buy their hardware for that but at the same time you alienate other gaming companies from developing for your console because it's so difficult to get people to buy anything else.
I think the Wii U is doing fine and they should just focus on possibly releasing a cheaper non GamePad version of the Wii U or something and if they seriously are going to release a new console it better be what I described originally on this forum.
An HD Nintendo console that is going to run games at 1080p, 60 FPS, 3rd party support, regular controllers with no gimmicks, mature online environment with parental controls only as an option, a huge online Nintendo shop that actually has a lot of games to purchase, and achievements and trophies (seriously everyone has them), toss in a brand new Nintendo IP as well to flagship the console. Possibly something a little more mature from Nintendo that would utilize their brand new super HD console's hardware.

Yeah yeah but people ALWAYS love mario...
I just don't get why people liked it so much, it's so unbelievably generic and predictable.
Do people like it because of the Co-op? The cat suit? The super easy to beat levels?
Why do people phrase it so much? I fail to find anything special about it, I am currently trying to 100% and still fail to see what is so great about super mario 3D world.
I could name a million things wrong with it, but I don't want to get off topic...
Why do people watch sports? Why do people eat the same food over and over again? Why do people drink the same beer and soda? Why do people drive the same car for years? Why do people watch the same movie twice? Why do people listen to the same song on repeat? etc. etc. etc.
I'll let you think about it for a second.
I love Mario because I know for a fact that whenever I pick up a Mario game, I'm going to get a Mario game. If I don't feel like playing Mario I'll play something else but when I want to come back to good ol' Mario it's always there almost exactly the same as it was when I was a kid. This is actually why I love Nintendo as a company. I'll never grow out of Nintendo games and I am glad that they never change.

Besides the natural bias against Nintendo as a babby console, there just aren't that many games on the Wii U that appeal to the core audience.
Also stuff about third parties and whatnot.
Also we're dealing with people who care about pretty graphics who aren't smart enough to operate a PC outside the realm of Facebook.
Wii U - "The Pitch" Commercial: Kids Edition

Nintendo pretty much has to turn to the audience of kids out there to boost their sales. But parents will still probably ask "I thought you have a Wii" all thanks to Nintendo's bold idea to slap a "U" at the end of "Wii" and not understand that people prefer numbers to identify with something new like PS4, Iron Man 3, iPhone 5, etc.

Yeah but Wii 2 is much more of a stupid name then Wii U. Wii U is a entire different from the Wii (ok not much, but I find the name fits.)
Why is Wii 2 a stupid name? It's simple and it cannot possibly confuse even the most stupid of consumers. Common sense dictates that a higher number typically translates to newer and/or better than the previous product.

I haven't posted here in a long time but after reading this article I just had to see what everyone's reaction on here would be.
I mean for the longest time I've been defending third parties on this forum when everyone was saying "They are trying to kill Nintendo its a conspiracy bla bla" and finally this beautiful article comes out of nowhere. It pretty much explains everything but also just confirms what I've been saying all along that Nintendo messed up the launch and the lack of third parties is Nintendo's fault.
I still have my Wii U and I have 9 games for it so I've done my fair share of supporting Nintendo and I enjoy the console for what it's worth. I will definitely enjoy it more when X, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong, Super Smash Bros, and a few other games are released but I can't help but think of what could have been with the Wii U.
It could have been a true next-gen console that competes with the PS4/Xbox One has all the same third party games on top of Nintendo exclusives and a online network that rivals PSN and Xbox Live If this was the case and I had to pick between Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One I would have picked Wii U.
Mistakes were made with the console but at least the games are great and the 3DS is a huge success so Nintendo is here to stay for a long time but they really dropped the ball on the Wii U.

Another dev saying Wii U is easy to devlop for and the Euro bit was old info.
So Eurogamer as usual had a anti Nintendo agenda to imply that the reason dried of 3rd party support as if this info is current.
A Twitter post vs an entire in-depth article? If you can find me an article that is as informative as the EuroGamer one that explains the lack of 3rd party support from an actual developer who has worked with Nintendo like the guy in the EuroGamer article I will gladly read it. I don't want some conspiracy article either. I've yet to get an explanation from Nintendo in my email and haven't stumbled upon an article anywhere else.

Since this Zelda is going to be an open-world non-linear RPG it's most likely going to let you just pick whether or not you want to be a male or female Link. Nintendo has put a pick emphasis on the freedom of choosing your destination and how you get there. It wouldn't surprise me if they also let you chose your gender this time to spice things up a bit.

Little Mac has ruined the entire game for me. Online is a joke when everyone is just spamming Little Mac. I'm incredibly disappointed that Nintendo even allowed a character like this to exist. Every other character is fine but Little Mac is the most broken character in the game and playing vs him all day is boring. Oh well- guess I'll just play some offline with friends and move onto a different game for online fun.

This smash is really well balance like I said earlier. And it's said to be such because its exactly the opposite of what you just said. none of the characters feel like they totally outclass any of the others. Every character feels like they have enough tools to be able to win against any other character in the game.
That's why I see the same characters online and have rarely ever seen some of the other characters. I see the same 10 characters all day and it's no surprise they're ranked the highest on every tier list. There is a long list of characters I've never seen online so far. It's actually a little sad because some variety would spice things up.

I actually hate the game. Like most competitive games I'll enjoy it for a few days on release when everyone is a total noob and plays whatever they want for fun. But once a few weeks roll by and everyone shifts into playing only meta top tier list characters I pretty much just throw in the towel and quit. It's not fun when some characters are just completely better in every single way.

Lol I totally thought you were serious
Also, ITT: Why it's a good thing Nintendo fans don't run Nintendo.
The money spent developing the GamePad alone and producing it could have been spent on better hardware or reducing the cost of the console.
If I could change things right now I would start by selling remastered collections for Zelda, Metroid, Mario, etc. This would move Wii Us off the shelves incredibly fast. Just look at how popular the Master Chief Collection is for the Xbox One and the remastered version of The Last of Us is for the PS4.
If that isn't possible at least sell downloadable GameCube and Nintendo 64 games on the eShop.

If I was in charge of Nintendo I would at least make an attempt at making a Nintendo console the center of everyone's living room for once.
I would call that new console "Nintendo HD, Wii 2, or Wii HD" and it would have Blu-ray, hardware as powerful as the Xbox One and PS4, and a classic controller instead of an "innovated" one. Achievements or trophies like PSN, Live, and Steam. I still can't believe this wasn't shipped along with the Wii U...
Ultimately this "Wii 2" would have awesome new games like Destiny, Kingdom Hearts 3, and GTA V and I would bring out a brand new IP not because I don't love classic Nintendo games but because why not introduce something that would attract the less die-hard Nintendo fans?

Do you actually own and frequently use a Wii U? If you do you in the incredibly small minority of people who do and don't like the gamepad.
The console also doesn't need to be cheaper. It's the cheapest 8 gen on the market by half.
Could you be anymore condescending? Yes, I actually own a Wii U. I've had one since day one of launch and considering the fact that I have 14 games on it already I think its safe to say I frequently use it.
So far I've yet to play a game on the Wii U that puts the GamePad to great use and that's including all the best exclusive Wii U Nintendo titles.
I suppose I found it somewhat useful for ZombiU and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate because I could quickly navigate through items but it's nothing worth bragging about. Nintendo Land is the only game I can think of that truly shines with the GamePad and that came out at launch. I mean if you have a game that truly shines with the GamePad please share it with me because I don't see it anywhere.
The hardware doesn't need to be better. Games look run beautifully and look beautiful doing it. No matter ow much you put into a console PC will be better. It's a waste of time. It's also a waste of time because Nintendo already has a terrible reputation with people who think hardware make games fun.
"The hardware doesn't need to be better" but let's go ahead and develop the Wii U which has better hardware i.e. better graphics than the Wii and advertise it as the HD Nintendo console, please. Don't you think you're kind of contradicting yourself? And obviously a PC is always going to be better but the entry level cost of a console is a lot cheaper and it will last for years to come with exclusives. This is coming from someone that is a hardcore PC gamer. If someone is looking to get into gaming I'm going to recommend they just buy a console, plug it in and play. The only things anyone is missing out on PC gaming is a few extra fancy settings which are nice but are hardly noticeable while playing unless you do a side-by-side comparison with consoles.
"No matter what Nintendo does, they won't change those people's minds because those people are idiots" how did you rationally come to that conclusion? You should really be careful with thinking like that because you're just stereotyping everyone that isn't rushing out to buy a Wii U. You're completely generalizing. All I am saying is the GamePad doesn't seem to be a selling point for the Wii U anymore just look at Nintendo at E3. They are focusing on games. This is the common formula for a console's success and Microsoft has quickly shifted focus away from their gimmicky Kinect to focus on games as well because that is what Sony was doing with the PS4. It's nothing to be ashamed of. If anything the GamePad should have been a peripheral and sold separately and I'm sure people would have bought it if they were more interested in it.
Obviously it's too late this topic is titled "If you were in charge of Nintendo..." so I wanted to just say that I would have gone about launching the Wii U differently. You can disagree with me but the launch wasn't exactly the most successful. I bought a Wii U because I am a hardcore Nintendo fan and of course I'm going to buy their consoles but up until Mario Kart 8 my friends refused to buy one. And even with Mario Kart 8 making my friends run out and buy a Wii U the game itself doesn't actually glorify the GamePad. Nobody bought Mario Kart 8 for the GamePad they bought Wii Us entirely for the game itself and completely ignored the GamePad. That says a lot about just how much of an impact the GamePad has had when your best title on your console proves its almost irrelevant. Super Smash Bros for the Wii U is once again going to be one of the best games on the Wii U and I've yet to see any focus on the GamePad with that game. The total opposite actually with the bundled GameCube controller and adapter for more GC controllers. That practically screams "Hey what's a GamePad and who needs it because we are playing this game with pro controllers and gamecube controllers!"
Also it takes time and money to remaster games. That money is better spent creating new experiences. Just cause other companies are doing it, doesn't make it a good idea.
There is a lot of people who have missed out on classic older titles so a remastered collection is the perfect opportunity to introduce those people to the games and welcome back veterans to enjoy their favorite games again. You are aware that the Wind Waker HD is a remastered game right? It got great reviews, the bundle was attractive to customers and helped get more Wii Us off the shelves, and the game felt brand new to me because it was remastered with better graphics and I love the nostalgia of playing it again. But you probably didn't think about the success of Wind Waker HD before just jumping on the anti-every other console idea that isn't Nintendo's bandwagon that you seem to be obviously a part of. Other companies are doing it and Nintendo has done it already. And what I'm saying is a gorgeous Zelda, Mario, or Metroid Collection could go a long way for the Wii U. Just imagine the glorious collector's edition of those collections. You seriously wouldn't want to revisit some of these classics in full remastered HD glory? I loved the Wind Waker HD and I hope Nintendo does more HD remasters.

I am baffled that there isn't a easily hotfixed option yet where the 2nd Wii U gamepad's screen is simply disabled and it acts as a standard controller so the OP doesn't have to run out and buy another controller even though he already has the original one that came in the box. First time I've ever heard of this situation with a console, grats Nintendo on being a special cookie.
This situation doesn't really apply to me anymore since me and my friends just LAN it up with multiple screens or just play together online but I feel ya OP.
